@@Aggnog except that Rolex is not to be opposed to John Lobb. Rolex is Gucci among watches, an expensive fashion brand, nothing else. John Lobb is a shoemaker of high-quality shoes. However, you are not even ware of the fact that Raphael applies criteria in his review that are not applicable to a "classic" British shoe like a fiddle waist or fancy lasts, colours, and patinas (Gaziano & Girling is not a classic brand at all, btw). The primus of British clothing style is understatement. This is perfectly embodied by John Lobb. As for the price, a pair of Crockett & Jones shoes costs a half of what's the price of a John Lobb pair. It's up to you to choose between these brands. It gets worse from there; even with surgery, most foot debilities will have to be thought of as chronic, recurring situations- very unpredictable ones at that.
I picked up my JL Prestige line black cap-toe oxfords for a fraction of what they retail for, through being shelf models, the prestige line with the seamless back is one of those details I have never seen on other RTW shoes and find them superior in many ways to my G&G's and Edward green's, however they're not very far off.
Best value for quality to price ratio remains Crockett and Jones. At this price range for English RTW, Gaziano & Girling or Edward Green are far better.
Antonio Meccariello makes gorgeous shoes. Even his RTW is better than John Lobb RTW. His shoes are a bit more sophisticated and daring than John Lobb too. Definitely if you’re in the market for bespoke, Antonio Meccariello near Napoli in Italy is one of the best. I’d also mention people like Tony Gaziano in England, Pierre Corthay in Paris, Stefano Bemer in Florence, Saint Crispin in Romania, and Norman Vilalta in Spain.
@@Nathan_Wright highly recommend Stefano Bemer. They have a flagship in NYC now and the experience is fantastic. Tommaso has great taste and is a wonderful guy to talk to.

The nice thing about John Lobb is that they have a lot of retailers in Europe. Trying on the shoes in a physical store is very nice. Buying other brands like Saint Crispin's can be quite challenging unless you live in London or Paris.
10, 000 for a shoe is an interesting price point. I am perfectly happy with Allen Edmonds for business such as appearances in court as an expert witness or meeting with attorneys, and running shoes or franken shoes for casual wear when I am plan on doing a lot of walking. You might want to do more on active wear. People who are into more expensive clothes are probably also interested in fitness. I certainly am.
found a pair of John Lobb Blakeney in suede at the thift store for $14 today, looks like they were worn 6 times. Ran home (not in the shoes) to watch GG video's to see how good they really are. Thanks for all the info on everything.
They're not. They're in the same boat as john lobb. For the same amount of money, you can find much better quality shoes. They are nice, they're just not so nice that they're worth what they ask. You are paying a lot for the name
Berluti is all about the quality of the leather and patina. Construction is very commonly used Blake stitch. So if you like the look of patina, you can get a lot out of your money from other smaller brands out of Spain and Italy or even patina artists. Andres Sendra is a brand out of Spain who has very unique patina styles, also Altan Bottier out of France. Then you have many makers from Italy like Paolo Scafora, Antonio Meccariello, etc who can make anything you want
Berluti shoes used to be produced by Stefano Branchini (I don't know who's producing them now, though). I haven't had any Berlutis in my hands or on my feet, as they are too pricey for me. But I confirm that Stefano Branchini and StefanoBi (another Branchini brand) are of an extremely high quality. I personally adore StefanoBi shoes.
Hi, Raphael and team. Gosford Park (a film set in a 1930s English country house) recently arrived on Netflix. I noticed that you had a short review on the film from all the way back in 2011 (!) but you omitted to discuss the outfits worn by Ryan Phillippe’s character Henry Denton after his outing as a Hollywood actor. I wonder if you might revisit the production and take a look at these wonderful menswear items. If you could find ready-to-wear garments for sale so that we could re-create these outfits that would be even better. Many thanks. Your work is very much appreciated.
John Lobb ready to wear actually offer 4 width fittings as part of the by request service. You may not be able to walk out of the shop with a pair, but they're certainly available. Also that pair of Campus must be at least 15 years old and the construction has evolved considerably over the years. The leather soled shoes are made with 99% high quality leather. Aside from the toe puff, ribbing, shank, cork filler, the odd nail and the rubber heel tip, it's all leather.

John Lobb are great shoes, especially Lopez loafers. They fit perfect and comfy, compared to other Northampton shoes like Edward Green or Girling. If you can afford one invest in Lopez, personal recommendations
These are still mass-produced, ready-made shoes. If you are prepared to spend that kind of money on such, you should be able to go the extra expense of bespoke made-to -measure shoes. There is NO comparison.
I like traditional shoes, it doesn't matter if they're not the most expensive brand. What matters is quality of manufacture, comfort and keeping them polished.
I prefer my Crockett & Jones. I'll stick to them. Crockett & Jones is very expensive. I purchased two pairs of the Tetbury Chukka boot one in black and another pair in brown @ $650.00 a pop. The James Bond boot Daniel Craig wore in the opening of the movie SkyFall. Great boot looks very sharp. I'll stick with Crockett & Jones. I had purchased Crockett & Jones she tree's they come seperate also pricey too.
Having had bespokes made at the St James’s branch, I’d say steer clear and go to Gaziano & Girling instead. A friend of mine had exactly the same disappointing experience. The measurements were poor and I had to press for a remake (the shoes still don’t fit properly). The prices are astronomical and the styles old-fashioned. You don’t even get shoe trees unless you pay $1000 extra. Avoid.
I have had good luck with J. FitzPatrick for a style-forward high quality shoe. They have one called Magnolia that's in the same ballpark as that City II. I own a pair along with 2 other styles. All have been of a high quality.
I recall purchasing the canvas slip on sneakers from KMart in the 80s and 90s for $4 a pair. Even with inflation, I'm trying to imagine what elements of build and material would amount to $745 for a pair.
I've owned leather shoes from brands like Allen Edmonds to Cobbler Union to Vass and John Lobb. John Lobb's leather quality is nowhere near the best. It can be considered great at most with Allen Edmonds being good. The best I've seen so far have been Foster & Son RTW and this one shoe from Ferragamo's Tramezza line.
I'm a beginning collector/wearer, but I'm surprised Ferragamo is considered high-tier. I've always put them amongst Gucci/Prada, where you're mostly paying for brand with less favorable methods of construction.Foster & Sons seems to be good value.
i have many brands of bespoke shoes, but theJohn Lobb Paris make my foot feel better than a;y other bespoke shoe. The John Lobb Paris bespoke shoe makes my foot feel as if it is being held up by a cradle. The middle pary of the foot feels as if it is being held up! the feel almost like the shoe facilitates your lifting your foot off the ground.I have 10 of theirbespoke shoes. When I had them make me booys they actually consulted orthopedic people and put s brace on 1 side of the leg part of the boot. By the way, the John Lobb ready made heel is the best construction of multiple layers of real leather- the best construction of any heel
Looks more expensive than an Allen Edmonds?? Yeah, it better!! AE’s are fine shoes, but there’s no illusion of them being in the 4 figure threshold. Comparing to Carmina or Churches would have been more relative for that cap-toe Oxford
I have a pair of Church’s brogues and a pair of monk strap Edward Green’s in addition to some prestige John Lobb monk strap shoes - I sincerely mean this when I say that the quality of leather, the comfort of the shoe and the contruction overall is better on the JL’s than the Churchs or Edward Greens - yes the price the higher than both, but there’s something special about the JLs that I don’t feel in the other two big name British shoemakers.
Not sure if you heard of the brand Cobbler's Union. They're an Atlanta brand that does the fiddle back bottom on their rtw shoes for around the same price as Carmina.
I'm a bit more broke I know you can't make great things on a huge budget but does anyone have a recommendation where I can find a size 13 shoe of decent quality for around 500 dollars?
Allen Edmonds if you want American made. Cobbler’s Union is pretty good for below that price range. Plenty of mid-range brands making great boots in that price range
500 is the sweet spot before you get diminishing of return in my opinion. Check out TLB Mallorca, Carmina, Cobbler Unions, Carlos Santos, Septeim Larguer and Vass.
I am glad that you are mentioning the brand name of your outfits because it is helping me in planning what to buy next. I am actually looking at purchasing some trousers from Berle, but I'm curious about how well they fit because my quads and seat limits my options in trousers.
Wow when I saw the john lobb city 2 next to the allen edmonds park ave I thought the john lobb shoe looked way cheaper like something you would find at cole haan lol I guess I have bad taste cause john lobb is way more expensive.
If one divides how much you pay for a expensive shoe , by the days of a year. It could equal how much people pay for a fancy cup of coffee daily. So I think it could be worth it.👞
I handled a pair of lobb RTW in a store. If I recall they were approximately 2k. I think there are better quality shoes out there at only half the price. Would never buy a pair of these

They are beautiful shoes, but no shoe is worth it if it doesn't fit. Unfortunately, most shoe makers think all men have the same width feet. If you have bunions, forget finding any dress shoe that will fit. Even sneakers are a problem. Thankfully I now live in a warm climate and wear sandals pretty much all year round. What better way for the refined, menswear enthusiast to relax or sleep then the dulcet tones Maurice Sedwell expounding on his signature style... Again...
John Lobb is a legacy brand. Definitely overpriced and the information on their website is thin. I get my shoes handwelted, tapered heel, fiddlewaist, MTO for $600 if you know where, you know where and yes I can afford JL bespoke - just dont see value there

Of course they’re not really worth it, you’re buying the brand. (Which there’s nothing wrong with) personally I buy some shoes that are less known/better made/value, then I also totally buy some things “because it’s a _____” both offer different things that I covet. Something like the Gucci bit loafer comes to mind with the latter.

I recall purchasing the canvas slip on sneakers from KMart in the 80s and 90s for $4 a pair. Even with inflation, I'm trying to imagine what elements of build and material would amount to $745 for a pair.
Hi your volume setting are low and at the end of the video I had forgotten it.
John Lobb Paris are well made, but they don’t do wide fittings. If you need a G or GG you’ll need to look at one of the other makers like Grenson.
@@TheNunakun Only the highest end Tramezza shoes are of high quality. Not that you can consider them good value though.
Great video! I agree there are many more shoe makers that are far less expensive and far better superior quality.
That tie is just - wow!
i have many brands of bespoke shoes, but theJohn Lobb Paris make my foot feel better than a;y other bespoke shoe.
Loved the video, you should do J.M. Weston & Carmina next !
I really like those shoes at 14:51. Are those also Gaziano & Girling? I am looking on their website and cant find that particular pair.
I swear I saw them this afternoon on Regent Street or Jermyn Street. But I can't put my finger on it. Sorry...
Could you make this type of review for Shopeassion?
The amount of money invested in this video is shocking. Thanks for the insights!
Looks more expensive than an Allen Edmonds??
Yeah, it better!!
AE’s are fine shoes, but there’s no illusion of them being in the 4 figure threshold.
Comparing to Carmina or Churches would have been more relative for that cap-toe Oxford
Im usually a 10 G in UK i blind ordered the Lopez in 9.5 EE i hope i got it right mate or they’ll be going on ebay.
Very informative video....what are your thoughts on Tom Ford dress shoes ?
Thank you 😎
Nicely done.
Oh, I'm very much enjoying my 13-pairs of Fort Belvedere socks!
What brand would you recommend for some nice balmorals?
Of course, part of our collection
I'm a bit more broke I know you can't make great things on a huge budget but does anyone have a recommendation where I can find a size 13 shoe of decent quality for around 500 dollars?
Ebay
Allen Edmonds if you want American made. Cobbler’s Union is pretty good for below that price range. Plenty of mid-range brands making great boots in that price range
Carmina shoes
TLB Mallorca or Vass Budapest
500 is the sweet spot before you get diminishing of return in my opinion. Check out TLB Mallorca, Carmina, Cobbler Unions, Carlos Santos, Septeim Larguer and Vass.
Nice you are wearing Raphael! Brimfield find?
I am glad that you are mentioning the brand name of your outfits because it is helping me in planning what to buy next. I am actually looking at purchasing some trousers from Berle, but I'm curious about how well they fit because my quads and seat limits my options in trousers.
Wow when I saw the john lobb city 2 next to the allen edmonds park ave I thought the john lobb shoe looked way cheaper like something you would find at cole haan lol I guess I have bad taste cause john lobb is way more expensive.
Thank you so much for this video Sven. I learned so much from watching it.
I like my Edward Green's much more than what John Lobb has to offer. If I were going bespoke, it would most definitely be Gaziano Girling.
Great informative review Thank you
Can you review the Beluti company next?
Overpriced, only their patina is very nice, but you can get the same quality patina from Santoni, Bontoni etc
Would never buy a pair of these
Great video! You should review a pair of Nick's handmade boots; their construction seems fairly similar to some of the good things you talked about here, but in a ~$550 boot.
Those are work boots....another thing entirely.
@@36424567254 Sure, but hand-made in America to custom sizes with high quality leather
You are missing the point. They are not dress shoes/boots so it makes no sense for GG to review them.
@@36424567254 That's a good point; you should tell Rafael to delete the half dozen videos he's made about boots, including various work boots and rain boots
Es ist immer wieder nach meinem Geschmack!!!! Amazing ....!
That image of London is suspiciously a lot like Newcastle Upon Tyne
That's because it is Newcastle upon Tyne. The image was taken from the Illustrated London News 14th July 1866 and depicts a sculling race between Henry Kelley of England and James Hamill an American on the river Tyne. There were two races over two days each worth £250. Henry Kelley won both races.
@@Dooguk Thanks for doing the research, and sorry for the inaccuracy. We shall do better job next time.
@@Dooguk Ah thank you for the explanation! It's always nice to see my home town pop up.
@@gentlemansgazette Easy mistake to make. Well it made a change from showing the Houses of Parliament😉. Your videos are great and I always look forward to them.
the fact they till charge about 500 quid for a pair of plastic sneakers just show its just branding and overpriced
My feet have never felt better.
It appears to have a paper (particle leather) rand in the heel stack. That's no bueno for a shoe in this bracket. I was really surprised to see it.
As a price comparison, a pair of shoes from John Lobb Ltd will set you back a little under £6000.
Stay tuned 😜
Just seen six pairs of John Lobbs for sale second hand in a charity shop for £85 per pair. Unfortunately, they were too slim fitting for my son.
_ Rafael, ¿who is the woman making shoes in this video? ¡Please!. I want to know. Cheers, from Argentina.-
Excelente vídeo de una marca excepcional y que me satisface plenamente. En loafer, hay una marca inglesa preferida de los conocedores, los dejo descubrirla.
the leather sole is the best quality of shoes or boots , I love all leather boots ! leather sole has my casadei boots, and gianvito rossi, also atribute london but NOT PRADA boots, so I am so disappointed
I'm well versed in the handmade, bespoke St. James area of London from the Cheney shoes ASMR video... Ahhh, my youtube world's are colliding. Maurice Sedwell suits for war next?
Actually a series looking at the various ASMR fashion videos would be amusing. What better way for the refined, menswear enthusiast to relax or sleep then the dulcet tones Maurice Sedwell expounding on his signature style... Again...
Can you do Louboutin “is it worth it”? Even though I know the answer lol
John Lobb is a legacy brand. Definitely overpriced and the information on their website is thin. I get my shoes handwelted, tapered heel, fiddlewaist, MTO for $600 if you know where, you know where and yes I can afford JL bespoke - just dont see value there
Vass?
edward green, gaziano girling in the UK and handwelted shoes out of UK like saint crispins and many many chinese and indonesian makers are much better value.
Ouch...the JL fanboys are going to be livid.
So, no. It’s not worth it. Great video, thanks!
THANKS for the video!! PS: I "Graduated" to AE about 15 years ago and I really cannot even consider buying anything else (nothing less expensive...nothing more expensive).
If I'm paying over $2k for a shoe, it better fit me perfectly the first time around.
Sneakers 😱 They seem to have gone the way of Church’s
Alden, Carmina, and a quickly fading Allen Edmonds (who still has some great socks) in that order for me. I have Lobb's and I'm not a fan.
Danke!!
If you're young and think this person has a clue what he's talking about, consider he is wearing corduroy with seersucker. Distinctly winter jacket and tie with distinctly summer trouser. A wale and stripe of similar scale. He's clearly confused, even before you get to the clownish boutonniere... Just read Permanant Style and save yourself.
Thanks.
