@alex demouy lol Joan was a pioneer and opened the doors for a lot of women in comedy. She was the greatest. Chelsea is a nobody and about as funny as a broken leg!
Two comedic geniuses playing off of each other. This is entertainment that current comedians cant come close to. I am more entertained by a 2-3 decade old clip than the new material that todays artists come up with. Joan fought for every applause she ever got until she passed. As her fans all know she was robbed of the title but she got the applause. Thank you Ms. Rivers for making me smile and laugh.

Just watching this old clip now although I always stayed up late every night to watch Johnny Carson in the old days. I have read that he stopped talking to her because her own show overlapped for a bit with his time slot. But at the moment I am reading an excellent biography of Johnny by his lawyer. It’s not a slash job but he does talk about Johnny and his moods changing from one minute to the next. But it is or was still a sad ending to what seemed like good camaraderie.

Of all the comedians that I have seen as guests on the Tonight Show, I have never seen Johnny laugh harder than when he had Joan on. Jonathan Winters, Don Rickles, and Rodney Dangerfield get close but Joan Rivers takes the cake.
All over a misunderstanding when she couldn't get in touch with him before she got the other job. But then, Johnny was famous for being a nasty drunk and a vindictive son of a bitch.
NBC did not renew her contract, she insisted many times that she needed a new contract and they ignored her. Fox offered her her own show and tons of money, how could she possibly refuse the offer? She did call Carson before signing with them and he hung up on her twice. Later on he did everything in his power to destroy her career and had her blacklisted for over 25 years. She only returned to the Tonight Show a few months before her death in 2014. He was such a sonofabitch, but in the end Joan Rivers triumphed.
