I could not agree with you more. Everyone is so uptight, no one has a sense of humor at all. Manners, morals, values, remorse and compassion for others has gone out the window today. Joan was an amazing woman. I love making people laugh, but people are too serious in today’s world.
This is a priceless interview. Joan was such a truly brilliant woman and comedian. I Iove when she talks about her early days and comedy process. No one will ever be able to touch her brilliance and mass appeal. RIP, great lady ❤
I wish Joan Rivers is alive, these days. Her comic genius would give us much needed laughter and joy. She was the funniest person in the world and I miss her.
It sounds like Joan is referencing her moments self awarness of authenticity in an industry that is primarily focused in falsehood. Hollywood based industries are an illusion, but she tip-toed around saying she stands out because she learned she makes mistakes but she refuses to lie or fake her way through anything. She wants people to remember her humanity and use her life as an example. For better or for worse... Absolute legend!
This is my favorite interview I have heard her on. Its so honest, unvarnished, yet uncomplaining about her lived experience. Another thing that really comes across is her emphatic relief at being surrounded for the first time by other (super-smart-as-a-whip ) kindred people in 2nd City. Even decades later in this interview you can hear the note of relief and surprise in her voice. And its very thought-provoking that every single other 2nd City performer became famous right away, but not Joan. There wasnt a female comedian they could buddy her up with, so she didnt have that person to bounce the improv back and forth with.... Being seen as an "OK-looking Female" made people's brains shut down so that she couldnt be seen as "Funny As ALL GET OUT" which she obviously is. How did she have persistence to persist in her career? HOW? We often dont realize the kind of apartheid that actually happens due to gender separation; this gives an interesting glimpse.
Joan was a real mofo Icon and GOAT. I always thought it was so sad how much she didn't think she was beautiful...she was both beautiful and hilarious and funny AF. So sharp and so wickedly talented!
I love Joan but the conceit is a little hard to listen to. I was pretty not ugly like the other ones so people thought i was the singer. My goodness 🤦🏼
1:25 So this is where that line came from in The Girl Most Likely To (a HILARIOUS movie which Joan wrote, by the way ! 💪🏾💪🏾💯) It's an earlier scene when Miriam was moving into the dorm w/Heidi and Miriam and Heidi were talking and getting acquainted
Miss my favorite comedian. This world is so terrible..we need her humor and entertainment more than ever.
I AGREE!❤❤❤ miss her so much

I miss Joan ❤
Joan proved that you should always bet on yourself! Regardless of if it’s easy or hard, just do it!
I agree But it took her decades. Not everyone can wait that long.
Joan Rivers was the BEST in her field!!! I miss her humor and we definitely need laughs now in the world!!!
My mom and I used to watch Joan on Fashion Police every Fri night. We would laugh so much together

I miss her so much
She looks so gorgeous here and I love those earrings.
And the background setting too -- she looks fabulous against those colors and that black lamp. So wonderful!
Joan Rivers was a brilliant woman!
She was the comedian for sure
Beautiful woman.
So intelligent.

Joan Rivers' female for runners were Lucille Ball & Phyllis Diller
God bless her soul ♥️
Always miss her!!!
Miss Joan so much! Our world needs that politically incorrect humor again. People have gotten way too thinskinned

The story told by Joan here is the entire Plot of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
3:57
legend. ❤🔥
Not a week goes by that I dont miss her.
Ten years without satire
A true American Master of their craft. Irreplaceable
Uh…I thought pasties over the dress was hilarious. Of course I’m Joan’s biggest fans to this day.
The best
8:49 If she is talking about the Bitter End in NYC, you know who else entertained there…? LADY GAGA. Two stars were born.
Maisel
She souonds like Donald Derk.........funny.........
The “mockies” comment and facial expression… I don’t know man. Joan is an intelligent talented woman but clearly she has some major faults.
What's a 'mockie'?
So a Jew can’t use a word for Jews?
I love Joan but the conceit is a little hard to listen to. I was pretty not ugly like the other ones so people thought i was the singer. My goodness 🤦🏼
I agree. And her story starting with Second City being all snobs...but she says it like its a compliment?!😂
She said "fairly pretty". She sounded far from being conceited talking about her perseverance.
I Laughed so hard at that one.
Always on point!
imo..she was
SO ANNOYING
and mean spirited.
😝😝😝😝
Joan Rivers was funny and entertaining.
Not just an extremely talented women but also very generous and unlike so many in entertainment was not full of herself. your missed much joan

Yes, I recognized that line too. 😀
Hilarious lady nobody like her.
