    I bought Essy's book and subscribed to your channel Rip. As someone who makes a living from running a large YT channel that heavily focuses on hunting, fishing, and outdoor cooking here in New Zealand I have had to take a hard look at my choices. I still hunt and fish but it has been 5 months now that I have been strictly WPF with no oil. It's been the hardest journey for me but I can no longer bury my head in the sand when Essy presents everything based on clear science and I see you shining bright Rip.

      I applaud you because I’m 70 and trying really hard to do this although my family eat all diary meat etc I reared them that way knew no better... I’d appreciate tips on how you succeeded, like you I can’t ignore the facts and my health is telling me so

    What happens to elderly who change to WFPB diet is nothing short of miraculous. I have to say truly what I see in the over 70 friends who have done it is just so fun. They love watching their Doctors’ reactions to greatly improved blood work, normalizing of BP, etc.

    I respect all of you and your knowledge. I do need to share. I have partial dentures that do not masticate greens well at all. I started blending a pound of 75% raw mixed greens with 25% fruit. The greens are so potent, I don’t get any glucose spike at all from the fruit. I wore a CGM to see what was happening because I was getting low blood sugar feeling. It actually was lowering my blood sugar with no spike, so I have to eat food with my smoothies and my glucose stays in the 80s-90s. 😊

      I have both top and bottom dentures and quit eating leafy greens for the reason you mentioned above

      I’m so glad to hear this. I have to drink my greens. I have no teeth and no signs of getting dentures. The only way I can raw fruits and veggies is in smoothies and I feel it’s better than juicing.

    It’s always good to go back to basics, I find it helps me to avoid slipping into bad habits. Keep your endothelium in mind every time you eat

    I want to thank You Dr. Esselstyn and your family for your guidance and your expert advice since my journey on this wfpb sos free lifestyle that I have been on this past 7 months to reverse my CAD. I have lost almost 40 pounds and my cardiologist who also happens to follow your prevention and reversal plan, is so happy with my results. I recently had my cardiac work up, Lipid panel, carotid, echo, and nuclear stress test and for the first time in decades my results are all normal! I feel better than I have in so many years. Thank you!! 😊 There is no turning back for me. I feel like I found the fountain of youth!

    I have to be honest Rip. I barely notice the noise in the background that you hear from your mom . The music in others you tube videos WHILE they are talking is very distracting (annoying) to me. I love when your mom pops in. Thank you for the great content

    My current green smoothie recipe is:
    +
    frozen collard greens (instead of ice)
    a few frozen pineapple chunks
    2 cups chopped fresh kale (home grown, no chemicals)
    one small orange
    one banana
    wedge of lemon with rind
    wedge of avocado
    one chopped medjool date
    piece of fresh ginger, chopped
    1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
    1 teaspoon of black strap molasses
    2 teaspoons of nutritional yeast
    1/2 teaspoon amla powder
    1/2 teaspoon shredded dulse
    1 scoop of organic pea protein powder
    vanilla soymilk

    This smoothie recipe has helped my mother age minus 15 years during the last 3 years according to the Levine Biological Age Calculator (based on bloodwork tests). She has steel cut oatmeal with berries and flax/chia seeds for breakfast and a variety of 100% plant-based meals for dinner, primarily whole foods. Some meal favorites are split pea soup with carrots/celery/onions/mushrooms/potatoes, spaghetti, tofu scramble, taco salad with rice and beans, roasted vegetables.

      @@doddsalfa She currently has about 10oz of the smoothie every day at lunch along with a small bowl of split pea soup with mushrooms/carrots/potatoes/celery and a slice of Ezekiel bread with a bit of almond butter. Before lunch she has a small bowl of finely chopped garden fresh kale with a bit of fig balsamic vinegar and about a dozen raisins mixed in. As she drinks the smoothie, she chews on a few nuts and seeds (walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds). My mom has now aged minus 18 during the last 4 years since her most recent hs-CRP test result was 0.4 mg/L which indicates a level of inflammation of a typical teenager. During the last year I finally found Dr. Goldner on YT and I enjoy listening to her share about the amazing healing that happens to her patients when they hyper-nourish with high quality green smoothies. Cheers!

      Dr E and Dr Goldner are the best. She has not only cured Lupus with her protocols, but many other autoimmune diseases, etc.

    Vegan for 17 years. Dr. Esselstyn, what’s wrong with stevia? I’ve been using stevia powder in tea and coffee for years. It has not caused addiction to sugar. I’m SOS free. Thank you so so much for your work!! 👍🙏♥️

      I don't know - because stevia is a leafy green. I eat the stevia plant. However, if you google it - it's a sugar alcohol that causes anywhere between endocrine disruption to digestive issues. That's what google says - how much of that is true, idk.

      Stevia is the ONLY food I’ve eaten that causes me to have uncontrollable food cravings and never feel satisfied. I avoid it totally.

      You should avoid all chemicals, preservatives, and artifical colors, if possible. Many of the artifical sugars have been identified as carcinogenic as have the artifical colors. Plus, artificial sweetners can trick your body into thinking it is sugar and for most people elevate your cravings for sweet things. No one has ever lost weight with artifical sweetners.

    Makes me laugh when he names the oils etc. but I never got the msg till I heard him in a lecture say “No Oil, No Oil, No oil “ (quite loudly). I needed that hammer to my beliefs to hear the msg No Oils. So Blessed to have learned this💜💚

    This was wonderful! I couldn't join the LIVE, but thank you for the replay. I was so appreciative of someone asking about high cholesterol despite eating an oil free WFPB diet as this has been a struggle for me (for those interested it is at minute 47:43). Knowing I can ask for those blood tests as confirmation that the inflammation is low and thus cholesterol being around 200 is not a concern will be such a relief. Thank you for this information and your time, Dr Essy, Ann, and Rip! What a generous and wonderful gift to us! :D

    I wish Americans, who are so pervasiveness sick, would hear and study this Ultimate Truth about food. This particular video is a remarkable summary.
    I am 74 years old and just getting over covid: vegan for 7 years and my doctors find my health ( aside from covid) is remarkable. Btw...I haven't lost my sense of smell or taste with covid.
    Just disappointed about giving up my single cup of coffee in the AM...but Dr. Greger found this also too....ugh...need to find a replacement that's just as satisfying.........black tea here I come.

    This has been a great discussion. I learned so much and appreciate the information. It is thought provoking about chewing vs smoothies and I am pleased I am familiar with the Goldner protocol for disease reversal. Since I have neither heart disease or auto immune issues, I am somewhat cherry picking some of the ways to get my nutrition. I have been using the green smoothies to get my greens and chewing all my other raw vegetables. This is a huge improvement over my previous diet, so...

    Thank You for sharing this information. I’m 60 days into eating only plants/vegan foods. from 287 to 266, but had not heard the importance of eating/ chewing these greens. I will certainly begin eating them this way hereafter💚💚💚💚💚

      Gosh, one video and you're changing the way you eat your greens.
      Ask yourself, where is there any substantial published evidence that chewing greens is superior?
      Amazing people will buy into such "advice" because of one mention of it.
      Some evidence rather than hunches.
      Eat your greens, everyone agrees, but chewing them in any manner other than normal eating has no evidence of extra value.

    The Esselstyn's family are 1 of the best families on TH-cam today through my watchings. Dr. Essie is a great man and heart doctor as they come. Ann and Jane are 2 of the best of the best. They have a gazillion delish recipes to die for. They film demos on how to make the dish; and their camera guy is the luckiest to sample at 1st hand every time. And Rip.....well, he speaks for himself, what can l say......he is as good as his dad almost with endless-endless plantstrong everythings. l love Ann and Jane.
    p.s...l'm Chinese, we never drink our greens

    I bought a blender and I use kale, carrot, sweet potato, orange and an apple. My friend who used to go for a medical every year was always told about his high cholesterol readings so he also bought a blender and as he lives in Thailand he used to use kale, spinach, parsley, carrot, sweet potato, pineapple, apple, papaya, blueberries and strawberries. When he went next for his medical the doctor was amazed that his cholesterol level had dropped by so much. However I am prepared to give the kale and balsamic vinegar a go and see if I get the same results.

      well I know that vinegar really burns. I don't eat it due to being a part of the alcohol industry. Only if I'm really ill will I use it. Acetic acid is a saturated fatty acid. Luckily acetic acid exists in more than just vinegar. Although I would imagine anything with acetic acid would trigger the GERD - maybe this list will help: apples, grapes, pineapple, strawberries, and oranges according to vedantu's website. I would say they all have equally bothered my stomach equally with their acetic acid - so I guess you'll just need to experiment to find the lesser of the evils.

    Thank you for all the work you and your father do in educating and inspiring us. Do you know if rhythm disorders (PVCs, afib, etc.) can be reversed through diet? I know those are more electrical rather than structural issues, but wondered if they can be treated through diet.

    I really enjoyed this! In a round-about way I get the idea that Dr. Esselstyn is a fan of chewing over drinkin greens for people with heart dissease but gave a nod to Dr. Goldner in her emphasis on green smoothies - perhaps OK if heart dissease is not your main problem?

    I personally prefer chewing because:
    - processing any food through cutting is going to increase the likelihood of contamination! It also goes rancid more quickly.
    - cleaning a blender and cutting utensils is arduous.
    - blending is overcomplicating eating
    - chewing is more natural and what our bodies are designed to do! Blenders don't exist in nature.

    I have hashimotos disease. I tried eating cooked greens and I got immediately sick. When I eat greens completely raw I have been able to put my hashimotos in remission. However, I have to eat up to 4 lbs or leafy greens each day to keep myself in remission. It's hard to eat that much alone. So I put it in smoothies.

      Also, I should say I'm completely off of levothyroxine and able to live a mostly normal life because of this.

      @@kayleepeadenartwork2278 too much Greens Raw can cause Oxalate build up in the Kidneys and cause Kidney stones, make Sure" what Greens you Eat Raw daily, Some Greens have more oxalates than others and Spinach is the most highest. Kind Regards

      @@DanielMacleod777 I've actually been doing this for years and no kidney stones. They actually say if you rotate the greens no oxalate problems since there are differences between the types of greens used. Plus.... I'd rather kidney stones than laying in bed all day dying from my disease. :)

      @@DanielMacleod777 I would agree. Plus some things from science don't always pan out. I think they take a normal average diet and then pair it with something like greens and say oxalates they are bad! And they are if you aren't rotating greens (this is science fact), and I also wonder if I was eating animal meats if it would be more likely as well....

    I didn’t see any scientific literature that suggested Stevia may be harmful to the endothelial lining of blood vessels and in fact has properties that act as vasodilators, is possible to include citations with any of this? Thank you!!

    I know people who cut their bananas in half. If you're one of them, just peel them, and then put them in the freezer. It's the best way to have a "banana popsicle".

      Want to know that too. Vinegars cause me arthritis like symptoms. Is lemon (or other citrus juices perhaps?) juice a good substitute?

    I am a kidney patient who’s lost a kidney to kidney disease and am also a kidney stone former. I am one of those who have to really watch the oxalates. However, I’m supposed to drink most of my water with lemon juice, to help calcium oxalate absorb. Will putting lemon juice on my greens work, or is the balsamic vinegar necessary?

      I believe cooking spinach and other oxalates destroys the oxalic acid making those green harmless to the kidneys. Honestly, I don't know why that fact wasn't brought out. Surely the Esselstyns know it, don't they?

    Listen. I’m going to drink my green smoothies. But I will continue to have dinner greens and midday greens that I eat. It’s all about balance and variety. I really love green smoothies. I look forward to mine everyday. I sip it very slowly. Usually 24oz I take 5 hours to sip it..

    Chewing wheatgrass or barley grass is fun, but it takes a long time and ultimately you have to spit the fiber, so I certainly prefer juicing the grass.

    No nut oils or milks, can we eat nuts. What about seeds and Soya milk,

      He doesn't want his heart patients eating ANY oils. Others should avoid oils as much as possible (14% saturated fats). Everyone has better health if they avoid oils.

      @@julianachinn plantstrong doesn't need to go over it because dr greger already did an entire video explaining how to reduce it here: Oxalates in Spinach and Kidney Stones Should We Be Concerned? and Kidney Stones and Spinach, Chard, and Beet Greens: Don’t Eat Too Much . All this was brought up when Liam Hemsworth stopped being vegan due to kidney stones from eating too much spinach for breakfast each morning. Unnatural Vegan did a video on this: Liam Hemsworth Is No Longer Vegan (Should Vegans Worry About Oxalates?). Even vegan cronish did a video too - with most of these you can see there's confounding factors - other health issues going on that compromises one's health. Miley hinted at alcohol use - which wipes out gut bacteria - and Dr. Greger says that wiping out gut bacteria keeps us from having oxalate-digesting ones in our system!

    Dr Brooke Goldner saves lives with green smoothies, you can't discourage people not to do em, they are quick and easy convenient, not all of us have time to chew 6 or more salads a day, get real here
