Hello to our friends in Ireland! I agree. As an American with family roots in Killarney, I am grateful to Dr. Esselstyn for his common sense insights into cardiac health and the amazing impacts of low fat whole food eating! I feel better eating without meat and dairy and felt better within a few weeks of going plant based. Thanks, Dr. Esselstyn! I feel disappointed that the American medical system hasn’t done more to educate us laypersons on how to protect ourselves so effectively from heart disease! It’s so well established, as Dr. Esselstyn states and even Medicare now pays for the Ornish Program for heart disease patients!!
I want to thank Dr. Esselstyn personally for his attention to my needs! Was I really expecting to really hear from him about my situation? Being a fairly busy man, no! Hello Dr. Esselysten, I took your recommendation of eating steamed kale with aged balsamic vinegar. I am not a leafy green kinda person. I have been WFPBNO for 3 years. I wanted to start incorporating kale into my daily nutrition. I started with smoothies but i watched your discussion with Rip to not drink your greens. Oh my goodness, I am addicted to steamed kale with balsamic vinegar. I am thinking about it all day. Could it be the balsamic vinegar (aged Modena) that is causing my craving? I am thrilled that I like it so much. Now, the goal is to start eating it 6 times a day. Thank you!

Good morning! Yesterday was my 28th day of doing the Whole Food Plant Based diet with No Oil and No Nuts, I had an appointment with my cardiologist who was fascinated by what I am doing. Thank you! I know this question is not your expertise but you are the smartest doctor and most respected, my question is- my daughter (37yr old)has recently been diagnosed with Trigeminal neuralgia, suffering extreme pain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏼
Neuralgia Vegan Diet As one could imagine, a vegan diet is quite good for someone with trigeminal neuralgia because it frequently limits the high-fat animal substances that are associated with flareups. For my Trigeminal neuralgias (one of the worst pains I’ve ever experienced so I feel for your daughter) I was recommended by my MD to see a physio therapist trained using the Watson Technique. It helped stop my migraines and Trigeminal neuralgias. I also used a product which contained PEA that help calm inflamed nerves. Ethical Nutrients Nervalgesic was the brand I used. And that with a WFPB diet lowering overall inflammation worked tremendously. I lost weight as well and was able to stop using my sleep apnea mandibular splint which I think may have been contributing to my neuralgias. I was able to avoid a drug which one MD prescribed called Tegritol and I went with a more natural approach which so far has worked well for me three months in. Hope this helps.

So basic and important and super motivating information about all the benefits of WFPB - and I am on my way, but I noticed the argument for avoiding coffeinated coffee - and the importance of taking probably a 1000 mikrogram of B 12 Daily and 1-2000 IU D Vit ( if you do not get enough sunshine) - and tale Care of your endothelial cells so you need to chew lots of leavy greens ( eventually cooked 5-6 minutes) + several drops of balsamic or rice vinegars … and you help your production of nitric oxide and avoid what harms your endothelial lining ( avoiding animal products and oil and go low on salt and sugar) 😊🍀💚🐸

What kind of toothpaste without fluoride is recommended? We know fluoride is good for fighting tooth decay, how effective are these other toothpastes? Water in plastic water bottles is fluoride free but may have microplastics. What is the solution here? This may be the most difficult part of his advice to comply with.
That has been my question as well. So, we’re alive, our hearts are strong, our brains are strong, but our teeth are rotting. :) I haven’t wanted to stop using fluoride in my toothpaste (not one cavity yet my entire life and I’m in my fifties) but am following the remainder of Dr. Esseslstyn’s recommendations. I’ve ordered nitric oxide strips to see if my levels still improve even though I’m using toothpaste with fluoride.
Thanks for this! I love you! The Okinawa people do eat fish and pork every day tough. I often see them referenced as examples of 100% plant based, but it is fact that they eat animal products daily. Most of their calories do come from plants though.
Back in 1970, Okinawans ate around 14kg of meat per year. Average American intake of meat is 140kg per year. The life expectancy of Okinawa is on a terminal decline sadly. And meat intake in Okinawa for newer generations is on the rise.
So how does a Calcium Score that doesn’t “tell you but shows you” that you have inflamed non calcified plaque in arteries? I thought a calcium score is ONLY able to show calcification not the inflamed plaque so how does it show you these “2 pieces of information” when the test can’t tell you that that you have inflamed plaque in arteries?
When you take b12 it's important that you eat some form of glucose i.e honey, banana... att the same time. The cells in the body only accept nutrients when they come together with glucose as written by Anthony William in his books.
Don't listen to him, find a real doctor like Dr. Esselstyn. mm aw is not a doctor and doesn't heal anyone, ever. You can feel better when you start eating fruits and veggies but follow what he suggests long term and you'll become one of the followers who are perpetually trying to heal something.
They make " no oil hummus" . I always have a container or two in my fridge. Its not as common, but its out there. Usually it will say "no oil" right on the main description. Also, you just have to read the ingredients list to know for sure.
I'd like to see Dr. Esselstyn publish his thoughts on the book "Toxic Superfoods". The book rails against 4 of his top 6 leafy greens, laughs at the idea that you need more fiber, says "phytonutrients" don't exist, and is basically anti-plant eating. Grab a cheeseburger and pork chop when you sit down to read your copy, as those foods are just fine. The book is flying off the shelves. I'd say it only applies to a small percentage of people having serious oxalate problems (but they don't know what's causing those problems), but is designed to scare the bejeebies out of any plant eater who may now fear that disaster is just around the corner. For the record, I'm mostly vegan for 15 years and have no intention of becoming a meat eater. I've read Esselstyn''s book and highly recommend it. But I also stay on top of what other people are saying. Doesn't mean I follow it, but do want to know what's being said.
Phytonutrients don’t exist, so that’s probably why big farma tries to isolate these compounds in pills to sell them at big profits to treat implications of the very bad lifestyle habits that are called diseases. Now to be correct, they eventually make the synthetic versions of it that do in many cases harm to the body, see the little paper that comes with the pils. The book you’re talking about is less worth than the paper it’s printed on. Since 2015 I follow a lot regarding health because I didn’t find it normal that people die shortly after retirement. Many books, articles, videos etc later it ‘s very clear and un doubtful that 90% of diseases are man made and a direct result of bad lifestyle. You want to do it right, you love more, move more, stress less, sleep well, don’t smoke or consume alcohol and eat a diet, preferably exclusively plant based, that is comprised of a variety of unprocessed plant foods as broad as possible. The more diverse the better. That’s it, all the rest is BS. Books that say differently have, if at all, references towards studies conducted by parties that have financial ties to the industry of interest! I challenge anybody to send of his scientific report to Michael Greger for review and if it proves that butter is back or beef is back and kale kills you, he will certainly make a video of it. It won’t happen in my lifetime, and so not in Michael’s since he is my age 😄
There is a chiropractor who has become a youtube entertainer, and he advocates for breakfast, steak/eggs/and bacon...I almost fell out of my chair while hearing this;-) .I'm like you I like seeing what the kooks out there are pushing. Still looking for the video advocating a bottle of vodka per day to stem off depression;-) Plant based/no meat/dairy and good clean Christian living, is the answer for me..God Bless:-)
I think his research reference only studied acetic acid in the 2 vinegars he mentioned. I was thinking Apple cider V. should work as well. Lemons contain citric acid- not acetic. Good question!
Also, a tip: eat 5-10 lemons WITH the peel per day. Referencing the study done on New Zealand Rabbits. Complete reversal of plaque is doable but needs radical consumption of certain foods.
@@CompanionAnimals2011 Grapefruit, limes, calamondin, even oranges -- essentially any citrus. Can review the study titled, 'Content of phenolic compounds and vitamin C and antioxidant activity in wasted parts of Sudanese citrus fruits'. Though just to correct my original post, the study done with the New Zealand Rabbits in which total reversal was seen was for lime peel*. The study for that is titled, 'Impacts of fresh lime juice and peel on atherosclerosis progression in an animal model'. I calculated that the dosage in the study equated to around 0.5 grams of citrus peel per 1kg of body weight per day to achieve the clinical effect seen in that 2 month study. For an average 65kg human that equates to 32.5g of citrus peel per day, dry weight. If overweight the requirement may be higher, so 5-10 medium sized citrus fruit could be advisable to achieve clinically relevant effects (also accounting for wet mass of the fruit). To date that's the only example I know of from the literature with reversal confirmed for a single food ingredient vs. a generic dietary and lifestyle intervention program. I need to further check the existing literature for any other cases of plaque reversal with other functional food substances.
I hope you get a reply soon. In my inexpert opinion, I'd be eating 6 servings of leafy greens every day, informing my doctor about that, and try to work with him. IME as a former nurse and respiratory therapist, pursuing traditional medical solutions can be heartbreaking. You are on your best path for consulting Dr. Esselstyn. My best for you.
I have 70 to 80 blocked left carotid. I spoke with Dr. Esselstyn 4 yrs ago when I was diagnosed and I had a small stroke. He told me to go whole food plant based right away. No oil, No nuts, and to eat greens 6 X a day. 4 yrs later I've had no progression. The man knows what he's talking about. Saved my life without surgery.
I have a question, I’ve started plant based watching Jane and Ann now for a month. I’ve always added 2 scoops of collagen in my coffee, is that ok or not? It’s good for my skin right?
coffee is not good. better green tea to wake up. I have been vegan since 12 years, I fast regularly, and I don't supplement collagen. people give me 10 years less. ;-)
Would it be possible to get Ann & Jane to do more videos doing recipes that are safe for people following Dr Esselstyn's disease reversal & weight loss protocol? They do way too many videos with concentrated sugars (maple syrup), nuts, including PB Pure, and flour products.
you can also check out Dillon at Well Your World. Lots of youtube videos for simple recipes meeting these requirements. I especially like them because the videos are short...10 minutes or so. I don't have time to watch videos that take an hour to show me how to cook something, even though they are helpful.
I know I am answering this 9 months late but you can't get enough DHA from just plants. You should supplement with a seaweed or fish oil based DHA or consume some type of fatty fish twice a week. Plus a fish like Salmon has very low saturated fat at only 1 gram per 100 grams.

You may want to do more research on Fluoride….
I’ve ordered nitric oxide strips to see if my levels still improve even though I’m using toothpaste with fluoride.
what about Parkinson's Disease ... any studies
Thanks for this! I love you! The Okinawa people do eat fish and pork every day tough. I often see them referenced as examples of 100% plant based, but it is fact that they eat animal products daily. Most of their calories do come from plants though.
> The Okinawa people do eat fish and pork every day tough.
How do you know this?
JPintero,
I read that Okinawans eat very little pork and only to celebrate festivals.
I'm sure there's a difference between 2022 and 1960 diet which was recorded as 70% sweet potato
Back in 1970, Okinawans ate around 14kg of meat per year. Average American intake of meat is 140kg per year. The life expectancy of Okinawa is on a terminal decline sadly. And meat intake in Okinawa for newer generations is on the rise.
Don’t think they eat it everyday and also they do have days of fasting
This is wonderful, thank you. There is still so much more to discover but plants are the key 🌱🥬🥒🥦🫛🫑🍏🍆🍓🌽
Why aren't heart patients put on a nitric oxide supplement?
A brilliant man, much loved.

So how does a Calcium Score that doesn’t “tell you but shows you” that you have inflamed non calcified plaque in arteries? I thought a calcium score is ONLY able to show calcification not the inflamed plaque so how does it show you these “2 pieces of information” when the test can’t tell you that that you have inflamed plaque in arteries?
thanks
When you take b12 it's important that you eat some form of glucose i.e honey, banana... att the same time. The cells in the body only accept nutrients when they come together with glucose as written by Anthony William in his books.
Don't listen to him, find a real doctor like Dr. Esselstyn.
mm aw is not a doctor and doesn't heal anyone, ever. You can feel better when you start eating fruits and veggies but follow what he suggests long term and you'll become one of the followers who are perpetually trying to heal something.
I would love to know what Dr Esseltyn says about the oil in hummus. Does anyone know? Thanks
They make " no oil hummus" . I always have a container or two in my fridge. Its not as common, but its out there. Usually it will say "no oil" right on the main description. Also, you just have to read the ingredients list to know for sure.
No oil! 😂
Oasis and Cava are two brands without oil. Whole Foods carries them.
Does this diet help ventricle stiffening? Grade 1 ventricular disease??
Sally Norton's book is only for those who are extremely sensitive to oxalates. It doesn not at all apply to most people.
Dr. Esselstyn once called me when I was having major hypoglycemia struggles but I missed his call! :-(
So, what's your point?
46:00 Aortic valve stenosis needs valve replacement. No need for open heart surgery nowadays.

Is lemon juice good with greens?
I think his research reference only studied acetic acid in the 2 vinegars he mentioned. I was thinking Apple cider V. should work as well. Lemons contain citric acid- not acetic. Good question!
Is it possible to eat a plant based diet if you need to avoid a high oxalate diet?
yes, as the dr. said look up a list of high oxalate greens/veggies and avoid them.
Eat kale .not spinach. DR Goldner talked about it on her Goodbye lupus wellness Wednesday.
Also, a tip: eat 5-10 lemons WITH the peel per day. Referencing the study done on New Zealand Rabbits. Complete reversal of plaque is doable but needs radical consumption of certain foods.
What other certain foods other than lemons?
Thank you. I believe Dr. Michael Gregor talked about the rabbit study in his book how not to die. I'll look it up. Thanks again.
What do you recommend for 80% blocoge of left carotid arttery?
Suzy, best channel fitting Dr Esselstyne plan is Chef AJ. She is close to them and Essie and family on the channel often!
Thank you with love & respect god loves you for your great humble work
you can also check out Dillon at Well Your World. Lots of youtube videos for simple recipes meeting these requirements. I especially like them because the videos are short...10 minutes or so. I don't have time to watch videos that take an hour to show me how to cook something, even though they are helpful.
I just picked up their new book called Be a Plant-Based Woman Warrior. It’s good.
Do I need to worry about getting DHA in a WFPB diet? If you don’t get enough DHA, do you end up with Alzheimers?
Can someone please answer this?
I know I am answering this 9 months late but you can't get enough DHA from just plants. You should supplement with a seaweed or fish oil based DHA or consume some type of fatty fish twice a week. Plus a fish like Salmon has very low saturated fat at only 1 gram per 100 grams.

I’d also love to see the charismatic Ann or Jane interviewing dr Esselstyn 🩷
Notice the body language when Jane showed up.
It was so funny,
I didn’t notice can you explain. I think it was at about minute 16
@@ssamd263 Sixteen seconds through twenty-two seconds.
Yes..😂😂😂👍
He looked very pleased.
Unlike fake advise from Dr Gundry! Don't listen to Gundry!!
Total Fat in Olive Oil is 14g saturated I don’t know. Forgot. I don’t use it anymore.
oh the irony of getting a jardience commercial during this video. ironic and terribly sad actually
