  • I am making these videos to show you that maintaining a boat won't make you bankrupt.
    Hereby a DIY video about changing the impellor, housing, and metal plate.
    The Yamaha FT8, F8 | 6HP, 8HP, and the 9.9HP will be the same. Building years 2002 until 2014.
    The older or newer engines will be very similar.
    The Hightrust version of the impellor has a bigger 'shaft', so this is especially for the HighTrust engines: 63V443520100

    Please if you've seen the movie, leave a comment to let me know what you think. This will help me to grow, and to see what you guys want, or like to see.

    FINE BUSINESS! The "NOTCH" for the impeller is known in Canada and U.S. of A. as a WOODRUFF KEY! CHEERS from HERE!

    Excellent and thorough video with great tips and common sense things that might go unnoticed. I just pulled the lower unit on my new to me 04 T8 because of your video. The PO had put a new impeller in, but didn't get the rubber fitting on the pee tube. I'm all good with the cooling system now.

    An FYI for everyone facing this replacement. If you don't have a Yamaha dealer in your town, and must resort to mail order, I would avoid aftermarket impellers. There are 100 different sellers on Amazon pushing aftermarket water pump parts, and they are all of dubious reliability and durability. I've tried a few of these, and they often fail in less than an hour of run time. If you paid less than $35 for an impeller, and it doesn't say "Genuine Yamaha" on the packaging, it's probably not going to last very long. Also, when the presenter says "notch" in this video, what he means is "Woodruff Key". The "notch" is the slot in the shaft that the Woodruff key fits into.

    Is Vaseline spray critical? Or can I use some grease? Or sun tan lotion?

      Your welcome, no it's not a critical thing to do, it is easy to get the impeller on. After it sits, it's not critical.

    How are you sure the discharge from the pump housing is inserted into the tube leading to the motor? When you install the impeller into the housing, does it matter if you twist the shaft clockwise or anti? Will it pump if vanes are in the wrong direction?

    • @sailingsilverwind
      @sailingsilverwind  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary, let's split your questions up:
      1
      How do you know if the discharge (outlet side) of the pump is secured/inserted correctly to the tube that leads to the motor
      Answer: Because this small tube on the impeller housing fits in the pipe, when connecting the lower unit. So when you put it on, look through the side of the lower unit and match the pipes.
      2 When you install the impeller into the housing, does it matter if you twist the shaft clockwise or anti? Will it pump if vanes are in the wrong direction.
      Answer: good question, the impeller can only fit one way, so technically it is always turning the correct way, but the vanes slide in clockwise, if anticlockwise, not a huge mistake but better clockwise.
      If you follow the steps correctly, the the shift linkage is still in reverse so therefore it turns clockwise

      Always rotate the shaft clockwise when installing the housing over the impeller.

    I’ve got a Yamaha 6hp long shaft & I can’t get the extension part separated from the lower unit. The driveshaft is frozen at the driveshaft bushings. Have you ever encountered that? Any recommendations?

  • @noway57
    @noway57 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On my yamaha 6hp I only replaced my impeller and not the kit. Now I see steam coming from the bottom of the engine. Did I do something wrong or do I need to get the whole kit. Sounds alittle different also.
