Welcome to Sailing Silverwind,
Within this channel, I show you everything that comes at our path. We JUST traded our old 'boat' for another old boat. The difference is; we went from a 22Feet 1972 Sturgeon to a Dufour 31 feet, from 1976. This is a HUGE step for is, and we're taking you on our adventures. The boat is complete but the diesel engine doesn't work, and the mast is not installed. Dirt for about 2 years on it, so really exciting to work on this BIG project.
Feel free to leave a reply in the comments, as that motivates us to make new movies!
See ya!

THE END - SOLD | The Dufour 31 project | Episode 12 | spraying the hull after 3 years in the water
Hello dear followers,
While typing this description, it's sad, but also nice. It's nice to realize that I came this far without much experience. I've manage to buy a sailyacht, to improve a LOT and enjoy it a summer.
It's sad because my first surgery knee construction has failed (broken) and everything needed to be done again. I've just had that 2nd surgery and coming 7/8 months are going to be harder. In order to NOT step on the boat again (very tempting) I've chosen to SELL the Dufour 31.
I'm 100% sure that coming sumer there will be a smaller sailboat again, but my recovery needs to be done first. This is my main focus :)!
Enjoy the last short episode!

I would screw out the filter the dip stick resides in, too! This is because you won’t pump out the crap residing in the lower bottom of the pan. Additionally it is a good idea to stick a powerful magnet to the bottom of the pan to „collect“ metal and oxides. Thank you for the work.
Will a 15hp 1998 apply with same parts? Or similar
Thank you 😊
Should do it in english 😢
I might be buying a Dufour 31 on June 29, 2024 in Puerto Rico. I will be watching all your videos. Ivan Laracuente
The “notch” called …..woodruff key .
FINE BUSINESS! The "NOTCH" for the impeller is known in Canada and U.S. of A. as a WOODRUFF KEY! CHEERS from HERE!
Awesome ⚙️🔧🌊⛵
Hi, Is it the orignal Dufour 31 pulpit ? Cool it allows access from the bow. Do you know if it can be found somewhere? Br
NOTE! The gearhouse/lower unit shall be in upright position when you fil it whit oil.
Very nice to have George Kniest (watersportshop) around ;-) Could you name the exact materials used? VHB typenumber. Als curious where you obtained the windows, since I am also replacing mine. Thanks!
I'm sorry I didn't note that. There's a vhb specialist: van asperen kleurstoffen.
why do you have a longer tube that connects to the water tube (the tell tale tube) mine is just a little fitting
I actually dont know.
@@sailingsilverwind I feel exhaust out the normal port, but I also see some come out of the bottom
what year is that motor you are working on? I need to order that top part, I wish I could email you what im talking about.. my 9.9 doesnt have that tube from the impeller and I feel like I need that
Good luck.
Jammer zeg! 🙏🤙⛵
Ek vertou jy gaan gou herstel.
Ek vertrou jou herstel verloop goed.

Sad news, but you need to take care of yourself. Rest up, and you will be sailing in no time.

All good 👍 12:52pm
Amazing video! Thanks :) I arrived here because after mounting I don't know exactly until where the nut of the gears should be adjusted. All the way through? Somewhere in the middle? I've did the test that I'm neutral is loose and otherwise is stuck, but when turning on and switching gears I hear clancking sounds, like it's not shifted properly and then it goes off... So I'm just guessing I need to screw it more
I don't fully understand what you mean. Sorry
Hello ! Glad to see you again on the sea ! I’m the proud owner of the same ship as you, since 2020. A dufour31 from 1975. Thanks for all your tricks, you taught me some interesting ones ! We are learning to sail and doing our best to fix it. As you, we love it so we understand perfectly every smile you make on your vidéo. Thank you for your happiness !
That's an amazing reply 🚀⚙️🔧😁
You have a nice boat and a very nice car - enjoy.😀👍⛵️
Why were you sailing with the Genoa alone without the mainsail - you had some great wind and a good point of sail (beam reach). It’s great to see the progress on the boat.😀👍⛵️
Thank you so much, it was such a lovely day
Do you know you can get an attachment to dispense detergent that attaches to the pressure washer?
Yes, it was only for 1 time, now I wash by hand once a month
To refit the mast, repair the roller furler, rewire and rerig with new rigging for around €2000 is cheap as chips.
Awesome comment, yes, for me it's a lot of money, but it was one of the most cost efficient ways to do it (mostly) myself.
Good video.👍
Thank you
I too joined after Marks post but loving your posts and now watching both ❤
Awesome ⛽⚙️🔧
Maybe consider thread lock for anchor fitting ?
Good one. Will upgrade that next season
Gracias
Wow, interesting job, I don't know yet. If you found blueprints, let me know.
An FYI for everyone facing this replacement. If you don't have a Yamaha dealer in your town, and must resort to mail order, I would avoid aftermarket impellers. There are 100 different sellers on Amazon pushing aftermarket water pump parts, and they are all of dubious reliability and durability. I've tried a few of these, and they often fail in less than an hour of run time. If you paid less than $35 for an impeller, and it doesn't say "Genuine Yamaha" on the packaging, it's probably not going to last very long. Also, when the presenter says "notch" in this video, what he means is "Woodruff Key". The "notch" is the slot in the shaft that the Woodruff key fits into.
👍🏻👍🏻

Try replacing the copper washers😅 or test the fuel lines pressure tester

Yeah, it was amazing
Hi nice videos and content, I need your help with the yamaha 9.9 check your instagram please when you get a chance
Very helpful
Great to hear! Thank you.
Thanks for vid. My windows are sika flex and screws. Some rust is showing. I want to use the 3 m tape and primer. My windows are oblong and rounded not square. (click my icon to see). Does this tape bend around? Just wondering how I will put tape on the rounded ends of my windows. Thanks in advance.... Gary in British Columbia
It does work easily, and if you have rounded edges, you need to be creative, only curved windows is hard.
😬
This looks like a strange way to do it. Typically before removing the lower unit you put the gear in reverse, then separare the linkage. Once it is separate you can put the gear in neutral using your gear shifter. That will create a gap between the upper and lower linkage. Once re-installing the lower unit again you can fully push it in place and torque the bolts before reconnecting the linkage. Use the gear shifter to put the gear in reverse and the two linkages with be brought together so you you can get the big nut onto the lower linkage. You can keep the lock nut on the linkage. The lock nut will pass through the rig when you remove the lower unit.
Leuk.
Promo>SM
I agree with the previous comment. The only thing between that sensor & the hull will be some sort of sealant. That could give way at any time leaving a bigger hole in your boat. Fill the hole with glass and then cut a new one the correct size. just sayin.
Hi, Thanks for your feedback, the boat is been sold in 2022, but in my new Dufour 31 project, I'll remind your feedback!
how did you get the prop bearing housing off?
So this is a very time consuming work, you get 2 flathead screwdrivers and you get some lub like: penetration oil. (Much better than WD-40). Then you hammer with a rubber hammer on 1 sice of the screwdrivers, slight force but don't do it too hard. This proves I had to do for about 30/40 minutes. There are 2 slots where you can put the flathead screwdriver in.
@@sailingsilverwind I see, you didnt try too make some kind of puller mechanism?
@@tommenhansen true!
Do you have a cold start switch on yours?
Yes there's a so called: 'cold start button'. It's a button that makes sure that the fuel pump lever can allow more fuel. MD 11 C (c stands for cold start button)
@@sailingsilverwind interesting! I learned something today. I have an MD11C in the boat I just bought.
@@wadebarrie1433 awesome. Starting procedure: 1) Neutral: full throttle without gear, 2) cold start button 3) crank. Starts!
Great video! 👌👍
Living the dream dude! Awesome - Clinton in Sydney Australia
You're quick 😁, thank you so much. It's really good yes!
I don't understand why you would remove an LED bulb to replace it with a regular bulb?
It's done because it was the only one available and had 15 min only.
Owning a boat will not bankrupt you but the overpriced cost of spare parts and marina costs will.
Yeah I found out haha!!
