@@matts.3514 Well, I have the “original” VHS version that I downloaded to my laptop ages ago (honestly don’t remember from where). I also have the Attack Of The Phantoms version that is on the KISS Kissology DVD from 1991. KISS Meets The Phantom was also released on Laserdisc in 1986, and I somehow ended up with a copy of that downloaded to my laptop as well.
I was front row center I was 9 and in some slow motion freeze frames you can see me as ACE ! We had to agree we were giving up any money to appear in the movie ! But it was a great show ! But they kept stopping it to film it again so we got to hear some songs 3 or 4 times ! I still have my ticket encased in glass ! From the show !
I remember going to the store with my Mother the Night this was on TV. I kept saying to her... we have to be home in time to see the kiss movie mom! LOL and she kept her word. We were home in time to see it. And it was absolutely awesome. Thank you for making this video. And to my mother who is in heaven above.. thank you Mom I love you
We are a select few kids today just don’t understand how important it was to watch this on the tv that night ! We didn’t have TiVo and we couldn’t record it ! So you missed it you were the odd ball at school the next day when everyone was talking about it ! I was actually at magic mountain and was there in the movie I was 11 and had ace make up on and if you stop it you can see me and the lord let me be forever immortal in the best movie ever made ! We had to agree to get no money for appearances we got to hear each song like 4 times cause they would have to keep stopping and starting I still have my ticket from the event encased in 3 inch Mylar case ! We have to stick together you rock 🤘🏻🤘🏻!
I remember the night this first aired. My whole family was in the living room watching T.V. and it was my night to do the dishes, they made me do dishes as they all watched the movie. I was 8 years old and really upset because I remember commercials with KISS and buying the gum card packs, but not sure how much music I heard by them other than the commercials. A couple years later when I was about 11 , I was a big KISS fan and owned a few of there albums thanks to my mother who knew someone who DJ'd and he would give away his older records. I did later see this movie on TV finally in like 1981. It's a classic, but after watching it like 50 times as a kid, I will probably never watch it again 😆 oh, I remember vaguely going to Magic Mountain when I was like 4 or 5 a couple of times. Too bad my parents wanted us to move to the east coast. Could have seen KISS Live at MM at 8 years old! yeah right 🙄
So well done Sean. You did this the justice it deserved. I think your having to do the parking lot scene over later at night gave this a feel like in the show with the people coming in at dusk. Kiss fan myself all the way back from the mid 70s. You did the KISS ARMY proud. Thank You.
I was at that concert. I got the tickets from a radio station at the time called KMET 94.7 which I believe is called the WAVE today I saw Quiet Riot at the Showcase Theater back in the early to mid 80's This brings back some fond memories
@@BillyBongwaters I don't remember them giving away a guitar other than the one Paul smashed on stage and threw into the crowd. KMET was it, and yes it is now the WAVE. Yeah I saw Quiet Riot at the Showcase as well
I had been a KISS fan for about 6 months when this movie aired. My 8 year old eyes were GLUED to the TV. It was a magical time. "Rock n Rollers don't bathe" fave song...Let Me Go Rock and Roll...Alive!
I was coming home from San Francisco with my dad,..it’s about 7pm ish,.we’re passing magic mountain and there is KISS playing!..We were tripping!..at that point I already had seen KISS 1976 at Anaheim Stadium and then 1977 The Forum,.so I wanted more!..I still love the movie!..Classic.X
Holy crap I was there to I was like 3 rows back in ace make up I was 12 damn that was a great night the only thing sucked was they kept stopping for filming ! You rock 🤘🏻🤘🏻!
I, Matthew Heaton, was there when they made Kiss Meets The Phantom of the Park with my two friends Shannon Hersh and John Knowles. We’re in the live concert scenes with the girls on our shoulders with the Kiss banner being held up. We were Kiss Army. My entire room in Calabasas was solid Kiss posters. We won best costumes Calabasas High School Halloween dance dressed as Kiss etc etc You can catch our picture tangentially in the magazine that commemorated the concert part of the movie. I still love the original 1970’s Kiss. Later in the 1990’s in my electric guitar playing in rock bands, Bob Kulick (if you know his story from Kiss; his brother being Bruce Kulick of Kiss) helped produce our MrMeaner album we made (not the UK Mr Meaner) in 1995/1996. It was privately produced by Ed Lenhart our singer. Ed recently made CD’s and you can catch him on you tube. I’ve recently been playing guitar with The Legend Contiuum on SoundCloud. Anyways it all started (for me) with a love of Kiss back in the 1970’s. We were there!
Thank you, thank you! This was awesome. The time and effort to do this…something that many would not get a chance to do…is appreciated. The showcase theatre piece was great…with the Stryper picture! And finding Devereaux’s Lair…classic. Great stuff…I felt like I was there with you guys. Great storytelling….pictures from your youth….just an all around great job. Thanks! Oh man....I've been searching for Kiss Meets the Phantom of the park film locations for a long time, and you did it Sean and Scott!!. Really appreciate it and glad you were the one to do it. Here in Australia, it was released as "Kiss in attack of the Phantoms" and it was shown in Theaters in 1979. I used to visit Magic Mountain quite a bit when I was a kid..we had it in Australia back in the day. By the way, your A Nightmare On Elm Street film locations video was the best bar none!!
Absolutely incredible episode! It makes me really want to visit that park. I have been a lifetime KISS fan since 1980 when I was eight years old, and was given KISS Alive II as a gift by an older friend. I first saw KISS Meets The Phantom as a rerun on Chicago's channel 2 around 1983. But going back to the beginning. I ended up a lifetime KISS fan who's seen the band live in concert 26 times between 1984-2019, met them once in 1995, seen the original reunited KISS 6 times between 1996-2000 and I became a performing metal musician because of KISS(and Ozzy/Sabbath). My entire house is full of KISS and metal as well as horror memorabilia and toys and films. I own about 6 different versions of KISS Meets The Phantom on DVD and VHS. I must have seen it over a hundred times. Excellent episode. I love all KISS line ups and related bands. I'm also a bootleg collector. Im also a fan of this movie, and Spinal Tap, as well as Roller Coaster, Zapped, and National Lampoons Family Vacation. I'm am an avid amusement park fan, especially Great America in IL. where I live near Chicago.
I've wanted to go to this park and find these locations ever since 1978...I never realized the Jazz Odyssey portion of Spinal Tap was filmed there, but as soon as y'all walked in there, before Tap was mentioned, I recognized it...awesome!
Thank you so very much for making this episode. I loved you your video in the Howling dvd but this gave me the magic fleeings and honestly I want to go to magic mountain and just walk around like you guys did and I live in Canada. This movie got me hooked on rock and roll. I knew a kid in my grade 6 class in the mid 90's and he had his dad's kiss t shirt on of the now famous solo album's. And I had no idea who or what they were and I said why are you wearing a kideo t shirt for and he said it not kideo it's Kiss. I said who's Kiss. He said come over to me place and I'll let you watch the movie my dad recorded off the tv years ago. So I went over to his house to watch it and this was before they did MTV unplugged. because I remember that come out afterwards and then the famous 96/97 reunion tour. So we watched Wwf wrestling and then he put on kiss meets the phantom of the park. And that note that plays just before rock and roll all night plays in the intro I was hooked. The whole movie I loved it and still do to this day. When I hear people say that it shit I say no it's not look at Godzilla movie's vintage one's if you love that you have to love this. Look at the incredible Hulk 70's tv show if you love that then you have to love this. And and other tv show of the 70's then you have to love this movie. And never forget that this was a made for tv movie. Now I know that kiss would fire people back in the day for talking about this movie. And Gene and Paul still think it shit but I got news for them this movie is on the same level as the universal monster movie's if you love those you have to love this as well. Because next to movies that are made now as people would say those movies are shit. And they don't hold up. And yes when I was done watching this movie I believed that kiss were superheroes. Like I said this movie is magic.
@@malfuncsean Sean, it's really "not" impossible unless you got the "SNIP". You would be in your 70's when you had a Grandchild if you act swiftly on reproduction and your child reproduces in the next 20 years. I'd be very proud of you! HAAAA
Great job man, I enjoyed it . You solved the mystery of the pool location which was a nice touch also . Remember ..those aren’t polls..they are carrots .
Cool to see this! I fell in love with KISS through this movie when I was five and our neighbour copied his tape of it and gave me for my birthday. =) Happy times... Best song right off the top of my head? "I stole your love". I'm also a HUGE Vacation fan and did not know that Walley World was there too!
I absolutely loved this video. I also watched “Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park” that same night in 1978 and loved it. Awesome that you also showed stuff from “Rollercoaster” and “Zapped” too. Really enjoyable video. Thank you for making it.
I didn't know what to expect when I clicked on the thumbnail but I'm sure glad I did. This was an absolutely well-documented video. Great attention to detail too!
Fantastic research, obviously from a true lifelong KISS fan. Even as a 15 year old hardcore 70s rock music maniac, the KISS movie storyline seemed hokey to me but it was the concert sequences, the music and hearing the band members actually speak that made this movie cool. I watched it the night it was broadcast in '78 on a 10" colour TV with some friends. Now Sean, if you can just get Mr. Scott-on-Tape to do a RUSH band locations video in his own hometown of Toronto, that would mean the world to his fans here in Ontario, Canada.
Hey Sean, Jim from WITCH here. I was there that night when filming began, Epic night! It was obvious the band was breaking up right before our eyes. Ace was so high he missed getting up on the risers during the finale, when everyone in the band was 30 feet up, Ace was still standing there on the ground floor shaking his head. Peter left after about a half hour. (Paul explained that he had to fly back to NY for some reason, I mean what could be more important than shooting a movie that would make you have to leave!! The looks he got from the band especially Paul was palpable! During different takes Gene sat down on the front of the stage dangling his legs off the stage and talking with us in the crowd! P.S., I still have the WARRIORS Tee you gave me at our show and cherish it! (favorite movie of all time) C-YA!
"There's not enough soap and water in the world to get someone else's vomit off of you..." HAHAHAHA! Definitely the quote of the video. Thanks so much for putting this together. I have been hoping someone would do this for a while and haven't found anything beyond a cursory, 5 min video showing the parking lot. I have been a KISS fan since 1975. I did manage to drive through the parking lot there, and see the area where the stage was setup, when I was on vacation in 2017. Thanks again for a great video! For the record, my fav KISS tune: "Black Diamond"
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Magic Mountain (in the 80's). Not so much anymore, but I still love any videos having to do with it's past. One small correction in this video...The Enterprise ride (aka Reactor before it closed) was actually located next to Himalaya (aka Flash and Atom Smasher) between where that ride was and Batman the Ride. They removed it when they built Batman in '94 using the area for it's queue. My dad took me on Enterprise when I was little. Thought I was gonna die (at least that's what my parents told me I said). The ride ended up one of my favorites. I never really listened to KISS much except what was played on the radio (Rock & Roll all Night and Beth come to mind). Anyways, great video. Thanks for doing it.
Sean, Scott, just so much appreciate this look back at this unique movie!! When Kiss ruled the planet!! I remember just being enthralled, especially with Gene Simmons, so cool that Kiss was actually in TV!! Thanks for the detailed tour!!🙏🏽🎸🎃☠️🤘🏻
I was 11, when Phantom came out. We were camping, in Northern Wisconsin and I was so happy that my grandparents had a little black and white television in their motorhome (because we didn't have one in our 'piggyback' camper. I recorded the audio on a little Sears cassette recorder. Unfortunately, the batteries slowly died, as the movie went on. So, when I played it back, the audio got faster and faster. At one point in the movie Ace scoffs at something, with a single "Ah!" and I distinctly remember it sounding like one of the Chipmunks.
Cool video. I’m a huge Kiss fan and I lived in LA for a while, and I wanted to go to Magic Mountain to see were KISS Meets the Phantom was filmed, we drove up there on a Monday from LA and the goddamn park was closed. I felt like Clark Griswold.
Fantastic! Have only been to magic mountain twice in my lifetime, 1982 and 1992, and I have never seen the film but I really want to watch it now. Some friends of mine who have seen it were telling me about it a couple of months back. Thanks so much for this Sean.
Great work on many levels, also interesting to hear all the other films that have links to this location. In the late 80's I went to this theme park but never realized it was the location for the Kiss film. The monorail thats no longer there was something I really enjoyed on my visit so many years ago. I also remember that the CA state tax was never included on any prices so that always confused me as someone visiting from overseas.
This is awesome man. Glad that you really looked at the details and gave a lot of time at each location. I especially liked your coverage of the Samurai stage, KISS's house, Devereux's Lair, and the Legend of Black Ace. You did a great thing here. Filling peoples hearts with joy and bringing back the hope from a time long gone by. Thank you!!!!!
Very cool. I was just a stagehand for Ace Frehley in New York and it was awesome. He had his smoking Guitar, the one that lights up and he still is such a great showman. Cool to see this after I just saw Ace couple weeks ago.
This was a great video and you once again do an amazing job with these locations. I remember watching this on television as a kid and it was such a huge event and this brought back some amazing memories thanks Sean.🤘🏻
Fantastic job of bringing me back to that great era! I was lucky enough to win two pairs of tickets for the concert filming from KTNQ in Los Angeles. Very thorough and humorous tour and I really enjoyed it! What really blew my mind was your mention of Stryper and the photo of you with Robert Sweet. I was the other dude in the photo. Now how crazy is that?! Just another fan of rock's greatest era. I've subscribed and I look forward to seeing more. Thanks! Rock
Say what??!!! I think you might have been friends with who ever I went to that show with. Message on Instagram @malfuncsean and I’ll send you a copy of the photo if you want it.
This was AMAZING to watch, thank you so much for the effort putting this together! As a massive KISS fan from the UK, we have little chance of ever visiting locations like this. Keep up the brilliant work 👍
Great nostalgic video guys, and magic mountain itself is such a great American Icon for theme parks. The film Kiss meets the Phantom was actually showing at the movie theaters in Australia back in 1980 -1981 possible even earlier ? I recall Dad taking me and one of the trailers before the feature was ‘Sure know something’ video !
What a great video! If I lived on the west coast, this is something I would immediately do. Living on the east coast, I've done similar things in NYC like finding the loft on 23rd Street and going to Electric Lady Studios and the Hotel Diplomat. Your video is so well done and such a pleasure to watch! Thank you so much for doing this!
Thanks so much for this! I was there at that concert as an eleven year old KISS fan. I was lucky to win tickets from the coolest local AM radio station at the time, "TenQ". Such a once in a lifetime experience!...unless they add a concert in the Six Flags Magic Mountain parking lot to the End of the Road Tour, which now that I think of it might not be a bad idea! Paul? Gene?
My wife and I enjoy KISS Meets The Phantom of the Park every year around Halloween. This was a fun video. Thanks for taking the time to find all of the cool locations in the park.

A new HHG episode always makes for a good day, especially this one for this lifelong KISS fan.
DUDE ! This is AWESOME ! Thank you so much.
Oh man, greatest episode ever 😢 took me way back ❤
Thank you. That meant a lot to my 51 year old brain
I have this movie on repeat when I need to think of great memories
It's like the perfect drug
Cool to see this! I fell in love with KISS through this movie when I was five and our neighbour copied his tape of it and gave me for my birthday. =) Happy times... Best song right off the top of my head? "I stole your love". I'm also a HUGE Vacation fan and did not know that Walley World was there too!
Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park is such a guilty pleasure for me..
I can definitely appreciate your enthusiasm showing the filming locations..
I absolutely loved this video. I also watched “Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park” that same night in 1978 and loved it. Awesome that you also showed stuff from “Rollercoaster” and “Zapped” too. Really enjoyable video. Thank you for making it.
I’ve been waiting for this one 🤘🏻 hoping we get a proper Blu-ray release of both cuts one day.
I didn't know what to expect when I clicked on the thumbnail but I'm sure glad I did. This was an absolutely well-documented video. Great attention to detail too!
Oh I can think of several people you've made very happy with this video, me included!🤘🏼
Amen to that
This is fantastic man. Kiss army!
As a location scout I gotta say you killed it! Nice job
Good to hear from you man. Send me a DM on Facebook or IG. I’d like to catch up.
Nothing could ever be cooler than this movie
This is really great stuff! Thank you for the time and effort.
OMG!!! This was my intro to Kiss...badass you did this!!
Awesome content thanks for your time to do this video
Sean, Scott, just so much appreciate this look back at this unique movie!! When Kiss ruled the planet!! I remember just being enthralled, especially with Gene Simmons, so cool that Kiss was actually in TV!! Thanks for the detailed tour!!🙏🏽🎸🎃☠️🤘🏻
Love this!! Awesome video as always! Thanks for this!
WHAAT?? WIIICKED!! Thank you Sean!!!
Just the intro alone is entertaining AF!
I am soooo happy for this
Dude. Thank you for this ! ⚡️☠️⚡️
Awesome. Just awesome. This movie changed my life over 40 years ago. You did a fantastic job, made me very happy. Cheers from Germany!
Man this is a total blast! I just found your channel from Jason Greene's IG post. Being a big Kiss/horror fan, this is amazing!
Awesome 🤘 I’ve been listening to KISS all day at work and now I come home to this 👌
Awesome..Can't wait for the SNDN locations video too!
Excelente!!!!! Saludos desde Argentina
Message on Instagram @malfuncsean and I’ll send you a copy of the photo if you want it.
thank you for taking me back to a good time in my life I have missed you i would love to have the thumbs up................
Love amusement park old footage vids and new location vids . So Fkn cool!!
I was there for the second night concert. It was amazing!!
This is AWESOME!!! Loved it! Great job!
Good job! It was an incredible episode! One can tell a lot of effort & research was put into it! Greetings from Spain
Incredible job! 💖
This was so well done..Bravo Sir!
This was spectacular fellas - I also saw Stryper on that date!
Thanks bro that was so awesome you did this for us alot of great memories. I've a been a huge KISS Fan since I was in sixth grade..........👍👍👍
This movie was probably my first experience with a "It s so bad it's good!" movie. Owned a VHS of it at some point.
