Second Gen the best! I purchased new a 09 Tacoma 4x4 V6 LBDC new frame 207,000 miles all stock. I’m 60 y/o don’t need a lift at 80 y/o to climb up to sit🤣 Total cost $28,000
4:32 The 3.5 is just a destroked 4.0 with DI. Its funny you say performs worse because the 3.5 outperformed the 4.0 on TFL's ike gauntlet. I swear people have some sort of placebo with the 4 litre
All trd pros (3rd gen and 4th gen) should have offered one of the tundras engines as an option. For the 3rd gen, one of the v8s should've been available as an option (either the 4.6 - 310hp & 327 ft/lbs of torque) or (the 5.7 - 381hp & 401 ft/lbs of torque). The gen 4 should be available with (the iforce 3.5L twin turbo - 389hp & 479 ft/lbs of torque) or (the hybrid iforce max 3.5L twin turbo - 437hp & 583 ft/lbs of torque). In either generation, people would be grateful for the lower output engine over the obe that came with the tacoma. It makes sense that Toyota wouldn't put their higher output tundra engines in either generation, but they could've put the standard output tundra engines in them. Id love even the standard 310hp/327 torque v8 in my 3rd gen trd. Id even take the standard output 3.5L twin turbo engine in my 3rd gen, since it's the exact same size except it gets 389hp/479 torque. You couldn't go wrong either way, although it's been proven that the 4.6 v8 will bolt right up to the 3rd gen manual transmission with no issues. There's not been a twin turbo tundra 3.5l swap into a gen 3 tacoma yet, so no idea how complicated it will be.
The past is the past. The old designs are gone. In ten years from now, the 2024 Tacoma will be the king in the discussion since the newer ones will be trash, right?
Highly doubt it. Maybe 2027 Tacoma's once any of the problems are ironed out. Big IF though. It is very likely that ten years from now we have gone back to naturally aspirated engines with some updates to make them a little more efficient/green. Really remains to be seen how well these new ones hold up. They are just so cheap feeling all around the more you look into them.
Just got my 4th gen tacoma last month i came from a 3rd gen, The 4th gen is better in every single way. I get it that n/a v6 but once you drive that 4th gen man its something else
People are hating on it because what they see online. The way it drives is nice. Toyota HAVE to fix their engines and transmissions. They're not going to keep selling broken trucks. Once they iron things out, the fan boys will crawl out of the woodworks
Let me know how the turbo holds up and I’ll consider it, and drop the price on a TRD sport to a more realistic 40-45K. 50K for a middle grade Tacoma with a 4cyl turbo is ridiculous.

@@Goodiebar18say what you want about the turbo that spool sounds amazing, yeah I agree with you on the price but lots of people are buying these trucks I really doubt toyota is going to be lowering they’re price
They can be reliable, but you can't neglect the maintenance as much as you can on a naturally aspirated engine. My volvo s70t5 with mods like 3 inch exhaust, larger intercooler piping, cat delete, and tune made it to 293,000 miles before it got totaled in a crash. The main things are to make sure the engine has the proper amount of oil and coolant, changing the air filter when it's dirty, use synthetic oil and change it every 5k miles, clean/replace your pcv when it's time, make sure your engine mounts aren't busted and replace them if they are(preferably with polyurethane mounts/bushings), and replace the timing belt(get a kevlar gates racing belt) and waterpump when it's time. If it was an American car I would be worried about longevity, since America only recently embraced turbos. The Asians and Europeans have been churning out turbo engines en masse since the 80's, while America has only made a handful of turbo vehicles in that same time frame. Would you really take a naturally aspirated 2JZe supra over a turbocharged 2jze supra? I highly doubt it. Stop the nonsense bias. The hybrid tacoma engine is the one to worry about, not the non hybrid turbo. I promise that these engines will be almost as problem free as the n/a engines of past days. Unless they left debris in the engine like the 3.5 tundra engine, they will be fine. The transmission issues are a whole different story, as they are having issues with both the manual and automatic. This turbo 4cyl engine will not be a problem though, unless it's the hybrid.
Yeah toyota really disappointed me with their newer trucks the V8 Tundras are way better and so are the 2nd gen tacomas. I own one and it drives as smooth as a half ton. You're definitely right the older toyotas are built way better. The TRD pros and capstones look good though I will not lie about that.
Just got the OTT tune on my 21 DCLB off-road. And holy cow. I have been missing out for the past 3 years. Sad they don’t come off the lot with these tunes. Major difference.
Definitely the 2024 pro , there is not no way I would pay 50,000 for a 3rd gen with that gear hunting problem and poor fuel economy ! Don't hurt me wrong I don't dislike the 3rd gen but Toyota should have fixed that gear problem after 2016! But they let it go for 7 years! Everyone on you tube channels are saying it's the rear end gear ratio , they say the stock gear ratio is too small and it's what's been causing the gear hunting problem, but it costs between 5000.00 and 7000.00 to put a higher gear ratio in it!
Over the next decade I would still take that gear hunting over a good driving turbo that gives me major problems at 5 years or sooner while the gear hunting Tacoma chugs on another 10,15, or 20 years.
Get a manual transmission 3rd gen like a real man, and you won't have that problem, or get a re-gear and a tune. I have the manual 3rd gen so I have never experienced the gear hunting. Even when they gave me a loaner 3rd gen that was an automatic, I never experienced the gear hunting, but I do drive very fast, so it never had to hunt for gears, but I only had the loaner for a week while the dealership installed some parts.
So you're going to pay $15,000 more for a trd pro with useless backseats? That's retarded. You cant option out the isodynamic seats on that 2024 trd pro, and the system takes up so much rear leg room that nobody will be able to use the rear seats except for storage. I would never pay $65k for a double cab truck that has seats that can't be sat in. Oh yeah, that's $65k before taxes, dealer fees, and any mark ups. At the end of the day, you're looking at a $70,000.00 tacoma. That makes absolutely zero sense, as you can get some really good full size trucks for that kind of money. I don't think you really thought about this, and were just speaking emotionally.
Why would anyone spend $50k on a used gen 3 trd pro? That's the cost when it was brand new. They are going for $35k. What kind of drugs are you on? A used 2023 gen 3 trd pro should ho for no more than $42k unless the mileage is 10k or less. Even then, $45k is the limit.
4th gens are having transmission failures at the moment, and a few other gimmicks. The 3rd gen is reliable and better quality itll hold its value more than the 24s at the moment.
Well based on all the users that have driven and/or own a fourth gen Tacoma and say that ignorant statement “better in every way” all third gen Tacoma’s are garbage to all fanboys out there.🤷♂️😳
3rd gen all the waaaaay! I own a 21' Tacoma TRD Pro (white) and keep'n it for liiiiiiiife!
I liked my 3rd gen , but I love my 24 tacoma it's better in every way.
My 93 will never die, I hope the same is true for my 2017.
Nice. I have the same truck, 23 Trd Pro, same color and I love it. That's got spacers on it. Stock dont poke that much out.
I have a 2013 that I just put brand new tires and paint job. Feels like a new truck again.
3rd gen. Hands down.
I just bought a 2022 TRD PRO with 28k mileage for 50k. 3rd gen Pro looks like a beast. IMO
Second Gen the best! I purchased new a 09 Tacoma 4x4 V6 LBDC new frame 207,000 miles all stock. I’m 60 y/o don’t need a lift at 80 y/o to climb up to sit🤣 Total cost $28,000
I got my 2023 TRD pro Tacoma
i currently have a 2023 Frontier Pro-X - this Tacoma is looking very slick!
4:32 The 3.5 is just a destroked 4.0 with DI. Its funny you say performs worse because the 3.5 outperformed the 4.0 on TFL's ike gauntlet. I swear people have some sort of placebo with the 4 litre
Looks great 😎🔥
I'm starting to see a lot more new tacomas on the road in Tennessee now so the 2024 is starting to pick up steam !
2.5 gen is the best gen. By far, looks are better and the 4.0 engine is the best
Would buy one immediately if there was more back seat leg room
While i do prefer army green this is killer
285/75R17 is a 34 and is the sweet spot size for most Toyota's . Ill trade my TRD pro 4runner for it
Nice truck for a Toyota love the color on it
I've got a 2017. I just like the newer 2024 design way better and definitely the get up and go in the 2024 and way more comfortable also in the 2024!

Bro I just bought a 24 4Runner. I'm in here and now lol

No replacement for displacement.

WIthout upgrades you can get a TRD sport for about 43k... @Goodiebar18
Toyota had a 4cy al along but not many bought them SR /sr5 models 4x2 ,4x4 access cab 4x2 double cabs , the turbo has to be better
If toyota gets rid of the Turbo in the 4gen model ill buy one but lets be real turbos are not reliable

They make 4cyl ones with no turbo
You know since 2016 Tacomas are built in Mexico?

Next review can we do a stock Tacoma TRD Pro?
👉🏻 3rd gen Taco's do not have soft meat as the 24's do❗️
This is Faster Than a Nissan Frontier
LMAO, not faster than my 2023 Pro4x.
It def is not.
What
That with OTT tune > new

I agree with all you said. I had this exact truck and I hated it. I sold it within a year.
Remember when BMWs and Mercedes were bulletproof?? And how are they now? That’s what’s happening to Toyota

You high bro. Got a 24 Pro and it’s perfect.
Turbo engines aren’t going to last look at the 22+ Tundra
