Yup. It’s obvious in the game. Highly inspired by mario. Astro is this gens mario. My 5 yr old adores these games, and its the reason he will be a lifelong gamer like his dad
There are many reasons why I stand by justifying Astro Bot’s GOTY win: A) I’m a fan of platformers (Collectathons included) B) Its platinum trophy was not frustratingly hard (like Rebirth) and actually fun (like the Marvel’s Spider-Man games) C) Team Asobi put so much heart/love and detail into it all while crediting Nintendo for inspiring them D) It’s a true celebration on Sony’s game industry legacy
I wonder how much awards like this impact them for decisions like that. Of course it’s good for the brand image but I would think sales numbers would be a bigger influence on what they decide to do
What's that, Sony should cut Team Asobi's budget and spend 400 million dollars on Live Service cancerous bullshit? OKAY, HERE'S MORE SEASON PASSES AND MICROTRANSACTIONS!
Lets hope that Astro Bot's win will now make Sony realize we want more of these classic and fun type of games again. Enough realism, enough generic stuff. We want games with character again like it was during the 90s and 2000s for Sony. Like I would love to see more of things like Ape Escape for example...
Why would they do that is say these more realistic games sell significantly more than Astro Bot. What do you think Sony should do, if the new Naughty Dog age and Wolverine all outsell Astro Bot and also win GOTY? At the end of the day, Sony should focus on having a variety of games, the type of games that sell the most, gets the most attention
Was all smiles when Astro Bot won. The games industry has become overrun by big-budget, unfinished, unoriginal, soulless looter shooters created only for the sake of money, money, and more money. But our boy, Astro? He was made by people who love video games. He was made by people who understood children may either love games or never play one again based on whether they love their product. They understood that responsibility and didn’t take it for granted. Heart is sadly something you rarely see in the industry anymore. And Astro Bot is all heart. Well deserved and bravo. Also, Sony winning GOTY for a platformer while celebrating the PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary is just icing on the cake.
It's a corporate product made to celebrate big corpo that "somehow" wins for that corporation's console anniversary, lol. $60 for 10 hours of gameplay already seen in Mario Galaxy or Hat in Time.
That award was so deserved, Astro bot I didn’t think was gonna win in all honesty but in my heart that’s my favourite game of this year. The game does nothing offensive to make people mad, has genuinely insane mechanics that always make you shocked and surprised when you play, utilises the ps5 in the best way nobody has used it better than team asobi. They poured their hearts into that game and I’m so happy it’s getting the recognition it rightfully deserves. I also say that no game is better than the other whatever would’ve won I would always support that game, we play gaming for fun people so let’s have some fun!!

@@mytoemytoe There's a bit more to the tale then that. To put it bluntly: Sony and Nintendo have a bit of a deep-seated grudge against each other that started back in the 90's. You'll have to excuse if I don't explain the story below very well. This video I linked will explain it better than I can if you're interested to learn the deeper history behind this tale: th-cam.com/video/zOaKJ7ZOvSs/w-d-xo.html So, back then, Sony and Nintendo were planning to make a console together, but they had a really bad fallout due to understandable reasons. You see, apparently Sony was planning to do an unhanded backstab move on Nintendo that would allow them to eventually own Nintendo and their IPs through their deal. As you can imagine in today's gaming industry environment, that would have been REALLY bad as that would have given Sony a huge and dangerous monopoly. Fortunately, as our current history stands, this didn't happen as Nintendo learned about this planned betrayal by Sony so they did the backstabbing first and essentially pulled out of the deal. As I'm sure you already know the infamous tale, from their fallout came the Playstation Brand. Now back then Playstation was still a Japanese Brand, and had continued to do so until I think it was around a decade ago that Sony moved their main branch of Playstation over to California. Where they eventually started to discard their Japanese roots until they have become essentially an western developer rather than a Japanese one now, as we've come to know them today. So you see, since that fallout between Nintendo and Sony, they have been essentially bitter rivals (and still are today). So Team Asobi made the right choice to keep it vague about their inspiration (which we clearly know was Nintendo they were referring to as their inspiration for Astro Bot). Because Sony would absolutely make Team Asobi suffer if they dared to mention Nintendo during what was Sony's moment. So...yeah...I just hope Sony will let it slide and just let it go since I don't see anything wrong with Team Asobi showing appreciation to another company for just giving inspiration for Astro Bot. I don't know how Nintendo took it but I like to think they were touched by the kind comment from Team Asobi. =) In fact, it wasn't just Sony and Nintendo, Square-Enix (or Squaresoft as they were called before the merger with Enix) had a fallout between their companies too. Basically because Square decided to jump ship to Playstation while FF7 was still in the very early stages. (It was originally meant to be released for the console Nintendo and Sony would have made together had the deal gone through in another timeline). So their companies for a while avoided each other like the plague, until I think around a decade or so ago, they had gradually rebuild their bridges with each other. And now they're bosom buddies as if the fallout never happened between them. =D I'd like to think that someday Sony and Nintendo could learn to let go of their past grudges and have a healthy rivalry than the bitter one we have today. But something tells me that's not going to happen for a very long time yet if not ever. :( In truth, I was rooting for Metaphor to win. XD But unlike some people in these comments, I can respect and give credit where it is due. Team Asobi did a great job with Astro Bot and deserved it's win. (I'll admit I never played it but I've seen enough from what I've seen from streamers that I watched that it's a game that was made from love, it made me think back to not only Mario Galaxy but also Ape Escape (God I miss that franchise so freaking much) :( Like seriously, there's nothing wrong with a game that appeals to young and old players, if I had a PS5, I'd probably play Astro Bot too but I digress. I hope Sony are taking lessons from this. But time will only tell if they will learn their lesson from the 'Concord Incident' or not. Honestly, I'm not holding my breath but never say never. Who knows, maybe Sony will finally grow a brain give us more games like Astro Bot or better yet, make use of the library of older franchises they've left to rot and make use of them. Sorry about the long post, I kinda got carried away and passionate while writing this. XD
Admittedly, I was rooting for Metaphor but I don't mind Astro Bot winning either. I never played it myself sadly as I am too broke to buy a PS5 and I'm saving right now for Switch 2 when it eventually comes out. That being said, from what I've seen from watching streamers play it, I think it's a charming little game, and it makes me think back to Mario Galaxy and Ape Escape (*sigh* I miss Ape Escape 😿). If I had a PS5, I'd probably be playing Astro Bot too (not to mention look at the little guy, he's adorable. ^-^). I'm sure everyone had their own favourites that they wanted to win GOTY too but this is getting ridiculous. I wanted Metaphor to win myself but you don't see me throwing a tantrum over it. Are you seriously THAT offended that a harmless little cute robot game won over the other entries? Unlike the year with Last of Us Part II, most of the entries in the Game of the Year category were all great contenders and being just nominated is an achievement itself. Besides, as far as I'm concern Metaphor still won best art and best narrative, also best RPG so I'll take the three wins in those categories. =) Look at it this way, at least the DLC didn't win. XD
Wukong is boasting the most concurrent players for a single-person game in STEAM history - with a quarter million reviews locked on a 10/10 average user review rating. This is the definition of GOTY.
Easy to win when u have the game preinstalled on everyones ps5 so it counts as their first game loaded and played. Sony cant win without cheating, shame
Bro, your thinking of Astros playroom. A free tech demo that explores the inner workings of the PS5 with the player controlling astro. Astro bot is a brand new adventure set after Astros playroom.
How this narrative has developed that Sony paid them off to give Astro Bot GOTY astounds me. If anything, Team Asobi has been working with one arm tied behind their back. The studio has been formed from the ashes of Japan Studio, executives care more about pushing a new console with ten more gigashits per megafart than supporting new games, and *evetyone* saw what happened with Concord, which somehow got even more promo than Astro Bot despite being complete and utter AAA slop. This is legitimately a fantastic underdog story when you consider how little love is given to Bloodborne, Ico, MGS4, and Ape Escape have received largely because they were not developed in America, meanwhile, Horizon Zero Dawn gets a Lego game that nobody played, and a remaster that nobody asked for. Support Japanese developers!
I disagree, there's nothing wrong with games from other companies inspiring others. I mean hell how do you think Final Fantasy came into existence in the first place? Dragon Quest paved the way for Final Fantasy and other JRPGs that followed after. Even the Father of Final Fantasy himself said that it was because of Dragon Quest's big success in Japan that Squaresoft finally caved into his request to make Final Fantasy (his 'last' fantasy you might say lol) as back then Sqauresoft didn't think a RPG would sell until Dragon Quest came along and proved them wrong and thus FF1 was born. (Well okay, after FF1 came out everyone started to try emulating FF but that's not the point I'm making here. XD) Point is that inspiration can be universal and not horded by one company, not by Nintendo, not by Sony, not by Microsoft, it belongs to everyone. You could technically say Pokemon should give thanks to Dragon Quest 5 for the monster capturing mechanic because DQ5 did it first. And Indie games themselves are born from love of games they played and inspired them to make their own. Inspiration and the power to inspire others is a beautiful thing. =) Honestly, I think it was very sweet of Team Asobi to give thanks to Nintendo for giving them inspiration for Astro Bot. Of course they could never say it out-loud because Sony will literally make them suffer if they even uttered their name. Hence why they had to be very vague about it but we all know who they were talking about during their acceptance speech. =3
I hate that Astro Bot won because I’ve never played it but I got WAY more hyped about those gorgeous scores being played in a medley like that. My God. We all know GTA 6 wins GOTY next year though 😅
Nice to see Sony just paid off the awards to give them goty for a shitty Mario knock off with like, a 15 hour completion time Crazy they’re not even hiding it anymore Baby ass game
10 hours actually. 15 is for the 100%. Gotta love the "Hey kids! B is for Buy'n'Large, your very best friend" corpo self-celebratory product getting selected just in time for that corporation's console anniversary. Just like Helldivers 2 getting an award right at the same time as their advertisement for their first actual content update! Craazzzzy how that just "works out" like that for the same corporation.
Did you actually play the game? It’s probably the most polished 3D platformer not developed by Nintendo to come out in literal decades. Also, PlayStation has been actively neglecting their Japanese developers since the PS4. This is a win for everyone, because it gives Team Asobi more leverage to make the games *they* wanna make, instead of just being reassigned to some other AAA slop like Concord.
@@swissidol8403 dId YoU pLaY?? Canned response. I watched a playthrough, I don't have $560 to spend on an inferior Hat in Time with no story and only 10 hours of gameplay that relies on nostalgia, branding, and controller tech demo gimmicks. Big corpo won, not some indie team. Lick better boots.
It didn't even occur to me that the Nintendo lads would be bitching about Astro Bot winning. =)
In fact, it wasn't just Sony and Nintendo, Square-Enix (or Squaresoft as they were called before the merger with Enix) had a fallout between their companies too. =D
I'd like to think that someday Sony and Nintendo could learn to let go of their past grudges and have a healthy rivalry than the bitter one we have today. But something tells me that's not going to happen for a very long time yet if not ever. :(
In truth, I was rooting for Metaphor to win. XD But unlike some people in these comments, I can respect and give credit where it is due. Team Asobi did a great job with Astro Bot and deserved it's win. (I'll admit I never played it but I've seen enough from what I've seen from streamers that I watched that it's a game that was made from love, it made me think back to not only Mario Galaxy but also Ape Escape (God I miss that franchise so freaking much) :(
Like seriously, there's nothing wrong with a game that appeals to young and old players, if I had a PS5, I'd probably play Astro Bot too but I digress.
Look at it this way, at least the DLC didn't win. XD
Im so confused. Ive never heard of that game
Thanking Nintendo was like thanking Beyonce
A big congratulations to our little hero named Astro

mannnnnn if Nintendo and Sony stayed friends , imagine what gaming would be. Great game but i still think Wukong deserves goty.
If that happened, Nintendo would be gone before the N64 ever released. Kutaragi's plan was to infiltrate Nintendo, not be a business partner.
I play Astro bot
i have not play astro yet. Wukong is the best

YESSSSS
Wukong is boasting the most concurrent players for a single-person game in STEAM history - with a quarter million reviews locked on a 10/10 average user review rating. This is the definition of GOTY.
Yes but plenty of games like that. Astro was different and creative. And it was for all ages. So, well deserved!
Having the most concurent players on steam means fuck all game has to be good lol
@tyr573 ??
Concurrent players are playing the slop that is Madden and Cod year after year, yet not one of them made goty.
That's at best the definition of being chinese, for that enormous population playing it at large it already won Player's Choice
Oh im crying?
Why did they focus so much on that weird in the orchestra?

astro bot stole everything from Nintendo, i am curious if Nintendo will do something about it

@Zeybekmu Stop being such a Nintendo fanboy and shut up
Nintendo does not own 3D platforming
Honestly, I think it was very sweet of Team Asobi to give thanks to Nintendo for giving them inspiration for Astro Bot.

Crazy they’re not even hiding it anymore
Baby ass game
I thought surely this would be what they wanted, having a well-made, highly detailed 3D platformer win game of the year, but apparently it only counts when they wear a red hat.
Also, complaining about the 15 hour play time? When was the last time you played a Nintendo platformer?
Astrobot is trash and is not even comparable to many games that weren't even nominated.

AH yes... I can pick between a card game. Eldern ring dlc. Eldern ring but chinese and two JRPGs... Or... Something we haven't gotten in years. Astro bot sweeps.
One of the biggest things I hate about modern gaming is how people like you have forgotten how good a nice, focused game with replayability can be.
I love them as much as the next guy, but not every great game has to be a 100 hour long RPG.
I don't have 100 hours to devout to games anymore sadly. Astro Bot was the perfect short escape I need from working 50 hours a week now.
@@MerahPutihCh Anyone who doesn’t are idiots. You wanna let companies make you pay full price for a 10 hour game? Every game should have 20 hours minimum with the option of longer play time. Anything less than that and it should be a day 1 game pass game.
