I need to make a correction. I said this mute is available for bass trombone as well as tenor trombone. I was incorrect, there is only one size for the trombone but this size does work on the bass trombone as well!
Dion! Nice job on that video. That actually answered many of my questions. It initially looked large and heavy and I wondered if it was going to be awkward to hold. I'm gathering that it does not appear that the kenny-penny adds any noticeable amount of weight? Great presentation, I'm happy to have seen it.
Thanks for the review. It doesn't seem that you can get that sound, that initial release of the note, when you're coming from 'fully closed'.(almost like a secondary articulation?) The tuning though! That's impressive. No more experimenting w various holes 👍 The 'Mute prayer' : that's actually so touching as that was their, and your, voice 🙏
When it’s all the way closed, it’s sealed really well on the bell so yes there can be a lot of back pressure on an initial closed attack. I had to say something special for my old plunger. We’ve been through a lot!

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I always have my plunger and pixie mute in my horn case. I saw Wycliffe Gordon pack his horn like this and I never stopped doing it. With that said, I would pull out the plunger at will maybe 10% of the time when it was appropriate. With this mute that percentage is a lot higher because you don't have to fight with the pitch. The blow is way easier too. Plunger work is becoming a lost art so I'm glad this mute is bringing interest back to this style of playing.
