#1 reason not to get a 2014 valkyrie: you're not worthy #2 you like making bad decisions #3 you don't appreciate perfection #4 you have no arms #5 you have no legs
So number 1 it not being a chick magnet, well really its personality that attracts girls more then any bike ever will. At least in my experience. Number 2 gas mileage of 40mpg is good enough for a 6 cylinder 800 pound power cruiser and let’s nor forget it takes regular gas, a big savings. Number 3 regarding accessories, the bike is perfect the way it is and I’ve not seen an accessory that made it look or be any better. Carry a day pack and a tank bag, I find handles most situations. Saddlebags look out of place on this bike. The only extra I have on mind is that small Honda windscreen and that’s the way I prefer it. Number 4, is the only one I agree with you, there is to much plastic. Number 5, it’s not a sport bike? Well yeah, but damn it handles nice enough and feels super stable under any and all conditions. I don’t think I’ll ever sell mine, there’s nothing that replaces it and I think over time people will see the unique qualities in this bike and it’s relative rarity. I bought a 2014 new in 2015 as a leftover. Same color as yours. Enjoy.
Thanks for watching! I'm looking at options for bags for road trips but that's really about it. Maybe a vinyl wrap to play with the colors, too. The bike attracted me, so that's all that really mattes. Cheers!
IT IS! The Honda stock seat is okay at best (I'm too cheap to change it) and my only complaint is a lack of 6th gear. I'm hopefully going to do an oil change and other maintenance video on it soon. Thanks for watching!
As for the no ethanol gas, I totally agree. I use it in all my bikes, and even keep a supply of aviation 100LL that I run either straight or mixed in with my 93 ethanol free. FYI aviation 100LL actually has ten times the lead of the old regular gas! AND most importantly, it will sit for YEARS and not gum up! If you live in a winter area ....not me! ... run the tank low before winterizing, and put a couple of gallons of 100LL in, run the bike a couple of miles, and then store it, Yeah, it's $6 a friggin gallon!
I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to find different gas like that around here. Interesting tips though, many thanks. Maybe I'll just stick to Seafoam once in a while. :p
@@bikerbobcatI have a cousin that runs aviation level gas through all his bikes from time to time for various reasons. I have not in any of mine, too damn scared I'd ruin them. Anyways, he gets his aviation gas at the smaller Airports.
I rode my Hayabusa for 13 years when I traded in for a new left over 2014 Valkyrie. I love it. I rode a Yamaha FZ1 for 8 years prior to that. I have lots of time riding wheelies. The Valkyrie is an engineering work of art. It runs and handles so well. I have ridden since I was 7 years old (mini-bikes) and the Valkyrie is a very special ride. Nothing else like it in the world and I loved my Hayabusa.
I have #1489 of 2014 and love the bike. I get lots of compliments on this bike. And it loves the windy roads and has a proper lean angle to consider it a sporty cruiser.
I've owned two motorcycles. A 2003 Honda VTX 1500 and a 2014 Honda Valkyrie. I traded the VTX for the Valkyrie. I placed Corbin hard bags and a Corbin saddle on it. It came with fog lights and a wind screen. I added three LED lights. If I trade in this bike, it will be for a Valkyrie with a pushbutton starter. It gets attention from men and women. Almost equally. But I'm in it for the ride, and it handles very well. Oh, I do want a Rune in addition to my motorcycle and a scooter. And the Valkyrie has a six gallon tank. I'm sure my neighbors are happy I can not change the exhaust.
The Rune is a heartbreakingly beautiful motorcycle, I tell you what. That's a sculpture on wheels. Unfortunately (for me) it's just far, far too expensive to keep and maintain. I love seeing them in the wild like endangered animals but not for my garage. Personally I'd never want one, but you can get an aftermarket remote starter put on motorcycles, can't you? Thanks for watching!
I've seen one Rune in the flesh at the Scottish motorcycle show...the second gen Valkyrie is super rare in Scotland I had never actually seen one until mine rolled off the delivery van.
@jesusacovarrubias1390 yes. That was one of the things I liked most. It is a 2014 model. Here are some specs for the 2014 Honda Valkyrie: Engine: 1832cc liquid-cooled, horizontally opposed, six-cylinder engine Transmission: Five-speed manual Final drive: Shaft Suspension: 45 mm cartridge fork with anti-dive system in the front, and Pro Arm single-side swingarm with Pro-Link single shock in the rear Brakes: Dual 310 mm front discs with ABS, and 316 mm rear disc with ABS Tires: 130/60R-19 in the front, and 180/55R-17 in the rear Wheelbase: 67.1 in Seat height: 28.9 in Curb weight: 756 lbs Fuel capacity: 6 gallons
The best upgrade I've done for it is the luggage rack. To find one big enough, I had to design and build it myself. My Gustaffson (sp?) windshield is a little small and I might get a bigger one but that's really it. That's all I can do. XD - Thanks for watching!
40 mpg is just fine. Comparing a Kia Spectra to this? Let's see how that Spectra does off the line. For an 1800 cc six cylinder monster, the last thing you're worried about is mileage. Customizing is an issue. Not many aftermarket parts available for her. But it doesn't need much, and what it needs is available from Honda. Windshield, bags, luggage rack, and lots of other smaller stuff can be had. Tires? YES. Very limited options. Can't argue that. And if you're going to complain about gas mileage, you can't complain about plastic. That cuts weight. I am not a fan of a lot of chrome. It's blinding and gets pitted after while. Actually 1832 cc. Is it for everyone? Nope. Is it all things to all people? No. But it is one KICK ASS motorcycle.
I fixed my tire issue with a car tire, I went from replacing my back tire every 2,500 to 3,000 miles to after 4 years it still looks good, and I never noticed a difference in handling, it's not blocky and you have a ton more traction off the line, I'll get the size and brand here in a little bit but it was definitely worth it to not spend 180 to 250 dollars every time I turn around, and on this particular car tire the beads look identical.
Here's why I DO want one. To convert into a sport bike. Well not really a sport bike but I have seen no one do a conversion to cafe racer style with one of these. Please tell me if I'm mistaken. I love that kind of challenge. It would require some pretty significant mods though. Not sure what the heck I would do with those radiators sticking out the sides but that tail would be getting chopped. That tank would be getting changed or modded. And that seat would be getting raised.
I've only ever seen 1 custom job with the 14/15 Valkyrie and it was pretty horrid, partly because they couldn't really do much, especially with the 2 radiators. Besides a tail chop they made the lines a little sharper and more boxy but that was about it. I tried to find it to link for you but couldn't. I'd love another to experiment with putting on a turbo or something like that. Thanks for watching!
The black one is really nice. I could be wrong but I think that's the only one with ABS? Welcome to the party of uncommon motorcycles! Thanks for watching!
Umm, not sure I agree with all the nays. I've been riding for decades..starting in the dirt. I've owned and ridden many different bikes. Simply put the 14'/15' Valkyries are arguably one of the BEST bikes ever made! It's not a touring bike, or a sport bike, or a total cruiser, it's s brilliant combination of all! First of all the only real negs are the stock tires (they suck arse), the stock seat, and the lack of *some* aftermarket parts...including FRONT tire choices. It likes ETHANOL FREE gas. With it you can get nearly 50mpg with moderate throttle positions...and with the corn free fuel it's much faster and smoother! I CANNOT stress this enough! If you cannot get corn free fuel use a ethanol fuel conditioner as a fuel additive. I do, works perfectly. Next thing: Get rid of those stock tires. The bike with a set of Michelin Pilots or Pirelli Angel GT2s is COMPLETELY different. With the spring loading set correctly that bike *snap* turns, and holds cornering lines with precision...I cannot stress this enough either. I could go on and on...and on how kick arse of a bike it is... Incidently, all the *plastic* keeps it lighter... No biggie..The bike could be much heavier...but Honda chose this to keep it light, fast, agile and RELIABLE. Incidentally 2: I just bought a new BMW R18 Classic. Awesome bike with great character and technology...German quality and engineering...etc., etc., but it *ain't* no F6C!!
I am torn between a used 2014 Valkyrie and a brand new m109r by Suzuki. Which is the best comfort bike and better performance? I dont get to test ride so it is hard to get a good perspective.
Comfort will be up to you and your body size related to the machines. The Valkyrie is super smooth because it's a flat 6, the Boss (which I wanted too!) is a twin. Different feel. As for performance, I'm not sure. The Valkyrie is definitely fast but it's a cruiser and really needs a 6th gear. I don't race but it goes as fast as I want. Can't go wrong with either. Be safe out there and thanks for watching!
@@bikerbobcat thanks. Wish there were more Vmaxes around as it was my first choice but hard to find in the used market. I am 5 11 210 pounds. Looks like you cant go wrong with either of them. I currently have the 2023 fjr1300es and that is no slouch either. I really want to test ride.
The "plastic" body work on this bike is not just for style. Honda designed It to do a very good job of isolating the rider from the engine heat. The old Val. is a leg baker and if it has after market pipes they will fry your ankles. Thankfully, excessive engine heat to the rider is not on your list.
3 years on this bike … 45-48 mpg …. needs no maintenance …. had a 2001 Valk … loved it, but this is smoother and quicker. The “metal” is in the awesome powerful engine. But I’m 72 years old and have been riding “fast bikes” my entire life!! Go Valk!!
I honestly have a hard time gauging MPG on this (or any machine, really). I hope I can still be riding at 72! If I'm ever too wobbly for 2 wheels I'm getting a Ural GearUp. Thanks for watching. :D
@8:11 - there's your moment when you know an experienced rider. Babbling about the difficulties and frustrations of the plastic - and EYE CONTACT - look at the driver, and tell them "Stay" "Don't do it... don't do it..." however one addresses them. You must *pay attention and gain attention.* Well done.
@@bikerbobcat Wow... I'm... thank you for calling me Senpai... That, actually means a lot to me for a lot reasons. Damn... dust devil must've just blown by my rig... 😭🤗
@@bikerbobcat First thing I noticed was your attention to things around you! Situational awareness. Going to look at a 2014 in an hour! Then I'll sell my two HD's, the Hyabusa and the BMW 1150GS ....... maybe!
@bikerbobcat ease of maintenance. Air filter, also the ethanol in our fuel would vapor lock the fuel injection, and cause a no start condition. This left me stranded four times. This has never happened with the cb1100.
Fascinating, I've yet to run into that problem. Guess I should run some seafoam through it now and again like my carbed bike, too. Thanks for the insight!
In my experience, women don't care about motorcycles in the first place, unless they are old biker ladies. As far as women under the age of 45, they prefer the modern look of the valkyrie to the dated look of Harleys. And also on my experience, older people hate the valkyrie, which is why it never sold and was discontinued after only 2 years. Old people that could afford it didn't like it because it didn't look like a 1960s Harley, and younger people that wanted it couldn't afford it. You can get the Honda saddle bag brackets and attach whatever saddle bags you want to them. The selection is absolutely not limited. You just have to be slightly handy with tools. And the brackets aren't $500. You need to get it out of your head that plastic automatically equals bad. It doesn't. If they made all those plastic parts out of metal the bike would be 100 pounds heavier. Besides that, chrome is shit. It's not 1955 anymore. Let the chrome die. 40mpg is pretty damn good to me. It's got tons of power and will run for a literal million miles. It will outlast any Harley on the road. Plus it is 750 pounds. You shouldn't be expecting 80mpg. It is not a boat. It is extremely maneuverable, not just for its size, but in general. I have absolutely no trouble doing emergency maneuvers to avoid road debris, or taking high speed turns with the pegs scraping. And yes, it does work that way. It is FAR more maneuverable than a goldwing and much faster as well. It's 170 pounds lighter and even has 5 more horsepower thanks to the slightly different tuning and exhaust. The only real issue with this bike is the seat is pretty bad.
Knowing nothing else about it besides the specs, it seems to be similar weight and size, the BMW is just slightly smaller engine size. The flat 2 BMW is likely not as smooth as the flat 6 Honda and probably has a more growly sound than then rocket hum. In my opinion the BMW doesn't look as interesting. It's just another exposed engine bike with two pipes. The Valkyrie, even with all its plastic, looks at least more unique. Thanks for watching!
0:57 Reason #5... You have to be kidding??? The bike doesn't attract attractive leaches that will definitely get on your nerves within 8 months or when you decide to commit... Which ever comes first. If you buy a motorcycle to attract women, you have already lost. 😂😂😂
Thanks for watching! I had planned on sticking with stock for the time being. Maybe I'll get something else next round (I just changed these) but want to do a lot more research first.
5) Maybe it's not the bike that isn't the "chick magnet"? 4) You want a Super Cub? (see more reasons for #5) And if you're concerned about mileage on a bike, maybe drive a Fiat. 3) Is it really "custom" if you can buy it off a shelf? You can fabricate just about anything. Brackets are easy. 2) Plastic? It's 2014. And the VTX isn't a Wing motor. So yea..... 1) I DON'T want a Sport Bike. You don't look at one when wanting another. What was your list again?
-I'm personally not looking to attract anyone. At all. Ever. It's a trope. -I really do want the Hunter cub (or whatever that trail version is called) because it frankly just looks fun and some folk really are mileage motivated. -It's really custom, yes, if you take something stock and change it. Are you "really" a biker if you don't have a Harley and leather and liver disease? Yes. -No the VTX motor isn't a Wing motor. It was just a bigger version of the Shadow so it was familiar. Still want it. -I also want a sport bike because they're fast and light and serve a niche. Thanks for watching! :D
Because you can get a goldwing and strip it naked and have a better looking more comfortable bike that's a modular system so it can have as many or few cases on it as you want
I never liked that approach beyond stripping down older bikes for performance like the Honda Shadow I had. Personally I really do think the Valkyrie looks better than standard Goldwings. That said, when you take a bike and strip it, whatever it is, it looks stripped. Paint isn't finished the same, wires are exposed that are normally hidden, etc. This was designed to be barebones, and I can add on what I want as I want it. Why pay for things you're going to just take off? No thanks. May as well buy a Harley if I'm going to waste money. XD But thanks for watching!
@@bikerbobcat I would encourage you to to do a search on "naked goldwings" they look very clean with little effort. Besides they get as many miles as a car does on the engine and can be picked up very inexpensive after grandpa did his retirement tour.
5. If you pick your bike based on how you can pick up women.....just wow! 4. Fuel mileage? If you are a daily commuter and you can't afford 40 MPG then get another bike. 3. Why would anyone change the exhaust on this bike? The stock exhaust is nice and sounds great. Why would you get saddlebags for this bike? Buy a Goldwing or FB6 if you want bags. If it really is a thing then Corbin makes beautiful bags for this bike, but pricey. I have put a Corbin seat on mine and a bunch of chrome look trim and small windscreen. 4. Don't like plastic? What? Get a naked bike then. Many bikes have plastic. My ZX14R has a tone of plastic. 5. If folks buy the Valkyrie thinking it's a sport bike - well then I don't know what to say! LOL I've been riding for over 40 years and this is the smoothest most refined ride I have ever been on. That being said - it's in a niche that when most people get a bike this large they want one like a Goldwing with bags and tech for long trips. For around town folks get lighter 1000cc bikes.
You'd be surprised some folks' motivation for selecting motorcycles. I like my new custom luggage rack and think that'll be adequate for my needs. Thanks for watching!
Alright - so, fluffery aside - I ride a Valk Interstate, big and curvy. I actually, technically, downgraded - from the much more luxurious Goldwing 1500, aka my "Road Couch." People a little bit younger than me, would call my love of the Valkyrie, a THICC attraction I suppose... 😁 [I would argue that a segment of GenX, has a thing for that "organic" bubbly, styling thing - but, that's for a video about generational influences and marketing cycles, more so than motorcycles.] I have ridden multiple Harleys, including direct competitor Road Kings that were almost two decades newer - the Valkyrie is still the better ride. The low center of mass with the F6 makes a THICC bike, very nimble... until you get to parking lot maneuvers, that is where handling the big girl, becomes a severe problem. Wobbly front end, and weight leverage. A Valk dwarfs HD's when parked on the line - and it takes a fuck ton of leg strength to move around. Wings had "reverse" mode (along with cruise) - and, I miss that.
A reverse mode for parking would almost ALMOST make up for the sin of not having a 6th gear. Thanks for reminding me I need to get back to the gym if for no other reason than to be able to park this thing easier.
I ride a 98 tourer and absolutely love it but yes at low speeds it can be a handful…. Just the same I’m 53 and intend to own this bike for the rest of my life (I’m figuring on triking it if/when it becomes necessary). Wonderful machine!!
I wish more people DID buy it because there might be more aftermarket parts around. Also nobody can be as cool as me, at least that's what my mom says. Thanks for watching!
Btw...The bike really needs NOTHING other then different tires. With ethanol free gas it's a frickin' jet airplane. I wouldn't mess with the exhaust. The bike imo, aside from tires, is perfect out of the box.
I appreciate the insight on the tires. Always looking out for new information. I don't think I can get corn free stuff around here (DC-area) so what fuel additive do you use? Thanks for watching!
@@bikerbobcat There are several available everywhere ...Meijer, Walmart, Auto parts stores...any place that sells fuel additives. Lucas Oil makes one, Stabil makes one, Startron, Amsoil...etc. You add about an ounce or two to every full tank...makes a huge difference...Plus it keeps your fuel system squeaky clean. Bike will always run great. NGK Irridium plugs! Deep six the crappy stock Densos...Lucas Oil 10w/30 full synthetic racing/bike oil (Jaso 2) best oil...I tried them all...revs quickest...Tires are EVERYTHING with that bike. Pirelli Angel GT2...H U G E improvement...over the stock Dunlop crap. Do all of this and you'll love that bike WAY more.
Ha! I'm too ugly for sponsorships, but I probably won't ever accept one anyway. Donations from Honda would be most welcome but my opinions cannot be bought. Still my favorite motorcycle so far. Thanks for watching.

I swear 99% of the people that say anything at all about my bike are men above 50. It's fine, I didn't get it to attract anyone, but it is amusing. It was either this or a VTX1800 and this is what I landed on. No regrets!

Thanks for watching!
I've seen one Rune in the flesh at the Scottish motorcycle show...the second gen Valkyrie is super rare in Scotland I had never actually seen one until mine rolled off the delivery van.
You’re sure the Valkyrie has a 6 gallon tank?
@jesusacovarrubias1390 yes. That was one of the things I liked most. It is a 2014 model.
Here are some specs for the 2014 Honda Valkyrie:
Engine: 1832cc liquid-cooled, horizontally opposed, six-cylinder engine
Transmission: Five-speed manual
Final drive: Shaft
Suspension: 45 mm cartridge fork with anti-dive system in the front, and Pro Arm single-side swingarm with Pro-Link single shock in the rear
Brakes: Dual 310 mm front discs with ABS, and 316 mm rear disc with ABS
Tires: 130/60R-19 in the front, and 180/55R-17 in the rear
Wheelbase: 67.1 in
Seat height: 28.9 in
Curb weight: 756 lbs
Fuel capacity: 6 gallons
Awesome bike, but difficult to find basic upgrades and should come stock with a lot more for the price tag!
The best upgrade I've done for it is the luggage rack. To find one big enough, I had to design and build it myself. My Gustaffson (sp?) windshield is a little small and I might get a bigger one but that's really it. That's all I can do. XD - Thanks for watching!
@@bikerbobcat I have also added bags, better grips and a shield that works ok but could be better. Exhaust could be a little louder too.
Thanks for watching!
@@ThinkBeforeYouSheep CAR TIRE?! This is fascinating, I'd love to see what you did. Please post some numbers or a link to something. Cheers! -Bobcat

I'm 54 I just bought a black 2014 valkyrie love mine
Yeah, super cub is definitely a chic magnet. Right.
It's just a theory. I need to get one and study it further. Thanks for watching anyway. XD
I've burned my legs on pipes before. Not this one, not yet. Thanks for watching!
THANK YOU SENPAI! You noticed meeeee!

Never wave to cyclists those spandex clad terrorists are bikers mortal enemies...in Scotland we can't stand them
I got a brand new one in 2017. After 4 years and 10k miles. I traded it in for a 2014 cb1100 f.
Out of curiosity, what made you trade it out for the CB1100, specifically? Thanks for watching!
@@bikerbobcat I live in Southern AZ. The summers here are brutal. The ethanol in our fuel is stupid high. So vapor locking was occurring with my bike.
Ha! You took this far more seriously than I did. Thanks for watching anyway! :D
Any idea how this compares to the new '21 BMW R18 first editions? Any input is appreciated!
If you take this more seriously than I do, you have already lost.
(thanks for watching)
What tires are you thinking, I’m in the market! Most peeps I see, go 120 in front or 200 in rear.. no matching sets in stock sizes!
XD
But thanks for watching!
@@bikerbobcat I would encourage you to to do a search on "naked goldwings" they look very clean with little effort.
Besides they get as many miles as a car does on the engine and can be picked up very inexpensive after grandpa did his retirement tour.
I absolutely hate chrome as well, last bike took two hours to polish, this one is like washing a car lol.
It really is kind of like washing a car. Which is unfortunate because that means I neglect to do it as often as I probably should. XD
LOL
I've been riding for over 40 years and this is the smoothest most refined ride I have ever been on.
I actually, technically, downgraded - from the much more luxurious Goldwing 1500, aka my "Road Couch."
People a little bit younger than me, would call my love of the Valkyrie, a THICC attraction I suppose... 😁
[I would argue that a segment of GenX, has a thing for that "organic" bubbly, styling thing - but, that's for a video about generational influences and marketing cycles, more so than motorcycles.]
I have ridden multiple Harleys, including direct competitor Road Kings that were almost two decades newer - the Valkyrie is still the better ride.

If others don't buy a Valk they can't possibly be as cool as you. Or as fast as far as that goes. Potato potato potato? Not for me.

Have 015 probably Best bike ever
My only honest complaint is no 6th gear.
