Easily one of the best NBA/Basketball series out there. So interesting to see how different communities engage with basketball and to have oft-overlooked franchises treated seriously. Hope this series continues forever!
This feels like one of the best video pieces ever put out by the Ringer - really differentiated content, style, and personalities. Please give us more!
The Braums Milk bottle on Classen. Love this video and will be rewatching. As an Oklahoman who moved back and grew up not too far from The Plaza district, this was really cool to see and really well done! This represents Oklahoma well and love to see Oklahoma basketball stories being shared.
Russ is one of my childhood heroes and I’m grateful for all he did for the city. But, being someone who was part of the media I could never get anything worth using from him in my sound bytes. So I wasn’t as sad to see him go as a normal fan but I sure did tear up when he came back and we played that tribute video.
I love that oklahoma is getting some recognition for basketball. I'm from bartlesville and we had Shake Milton from our city and now we have a kid you should be looking out for at Kansas state David Castillo he dominated in fiba for 2 years I can't wait to see how he turns out
As a Native that was born and raised in Shawnee that eventually moved to OKC and travelled right passed that Hurts Donut and Golden Dome on 23rd earlier today, I'm glad you gave the Fry Bread Taco a cameo near the Firelake Casino. 💯
Okarche's legendary coach, Ray West, definitely had his guys running Res Ball for years. I've never been more gassed than chasing them up and down the court all summer league.
Thank you for making this video and highlighting the state I’ve called home my entire life. I always see the comments under sports center posts about the Thunder how “there’s nothing in Oklahoma” or “Oklahoma City isn’t much of a city” and it’s nice to to see someone show people differently. The state as a whole is DEEPLY flawed and I often find myself struggling with our politics but nevertheless I love this state and I love OKC and I love the thunder. It’s been a great place to call home for my 26 years on this planet. I don’t know if I’ll end up staying here or finding a new place to call home but I know I always have this place to come back to.
When I was a child we went to camp Patowatomi in Indiana several years in a row for school. The first year we learned about Native American culture and there persecution in that area of Indiana of the Patowatomis and Kickapoo resulting in relocation in 1838. We learned the next year about the Underground Railroad and they have several houses on the property that were used on the actual Underground Railroad. They had us do a skit and pretend to be slaves and really were very mean to us. Maybe not PC, but hugely informative to a child, at least it was for me, especially as a Cherokee descendant myself it was awesome to get some real Native American history on what used to be the lands they raised there families for generations, and also incredibly sad that they were forced to leave ancestral lands that there fathers and fathers fathers were buried in
Loved this whole thing. As a native Oklahoman though I have to be picky with you. You mentioned some great players from here but you forgot one of the most iconic New York Knicks of all time in John Starks from Tulsa. We have had some great players come out of Tulsa that have had some good careers in the pros. Waymon, Stark’s, Etan Thomas, Kevin Pritchard, Lee Mayberry, Richard Dumas, Kelenna Azubuike. Great stuff Kyle. Been a fan for years. Also I remember watching Tyler Parker when he was in high school and he was good!
Not a bad spread, sorry your boy got food poisoning. Next time you're in town, I'd recommend: Barrios, Nic's Grill, Pho Lien Hoa, The Butcher Stand, Ma Der Lao, Deem Laow, Pizzeria Gusto, and Bar Arbolada. Just trust me on the Vietnamese food.
Change this thumbnail up and you will get way more views. The production quality alone is great but most people will scroll by without ever giving it a chance.
Ton of food picks that were missed, Cafe Kacao is second to none for Brunch. Goro Ramen in the Paseo district is fantastic. The Jones Assembly, Ma Der, Hall’s Pizza… list goes on and on and on lol
Wow - started out great but ended with a muted, anemic whimper. WTF?? This feels more like a hit piece. As a life long OKC resident, I'm proud of our Native American, First Nations cultures and peoples, so don't get it twisted. Why did you choose to limp out of this piece? Even your voice is muted and you sound like you barely got the words out. Squeeze those abs, support those vocals. I was about ready to share this with friends and family but no way. Not with those depressing end notes. What a disappointment. Oh well
Where should J. Kyle Mann go next?
Heat culture! Miami is a very complex city of contradictions, passion and loyalty. Would love to see his take on
Detroit😂
Chicago
Seattle
We need Sonics back and it’s great basketball city
Philly with CR

Thanks for not totally clowning on my home
As an OKC resident and someone who’s love of hoops started in the CP3 era, this video made me smile ear to ear.
J Kyle Mann makes masterpieces

Whoever it was that decided we needed 2 minute relaxed gospel laced interlude at Chilis is a tremendous individual that needs a raise.

I honestly feel truly blessed to exist in an era of TH-cam where I can enjoy J. Kyle Mann :)
Keep giving J Kyle Mann more and more Ringer content!
Damn this was goooood, it's nice seeing my state be celebrated for the game I love and the passion we bring to it.
