It's a great character and a great performance. Anyone who thinks this is a stereotype simply wasn't around back then; I *knew* Douglas. (You do almost look like you're about to corpse at 4:38, though.) I really wish Bill Sherwood had gotten to make another film.
If one sign of a good actor is, he makes you loathe and despise him when he's playing a thoroughly unsympathetic character... then you're a good actor. I can barely stand the sight of Douglas.
