    Protip: Turn off the engine start/stop feature, then save your settings to your key, and you will never need to turn it back off again.

    Awesome review, and very on point. Had the opportunity to take a 228i M Sport on an autocross hosted by BMW and this car is an absolute blast to drive, is very balanced and surprisingly roomy inside even with 4 adults in all seats. But let's not knock the 4 Gran Coupe, as that is one of the most beautiful BMW's in a very long time and also an amazing drive.

    This guy gets it. The conclusion is perfect. People that lament that BMW builds cars they don't want have to understand that selling those cars lets them build these cars.

    Even though BMW is throwing crazy models out there like Samsung does with their mobile devices, it is nice to see that with this car they are showing they have not forgetten their roots. Great review and you make a good point in the conclusion.

    8 years later.. I picked up 228i with 60 000km for 24k CAD manual RWD its fun but still kinda under powered.. The problem is small turbo life. All the trq is down low... trq kinda dies after 5 rpm. Stock exhaust really mutes the car....... BUT u can hear a little burble sometimes when u lift. I think a Aftermarket DP with a better intercooler and stage 1 tune from Bm3 and this car wakes up. I recommend getting a 2015 or newer.. AVOID 2014 or lower. The n20 motor got a timing chain redesign in the 2015 models.

    A tip, hold the "traction"-button for 10 seconds... Then you're in Sport-mode without any traction control at all :)

    I loved the 128i i wished they gave it the option to have the naturally aspirated straight 6 engine like the 128i did. It's the most reliable engine there is and needs far less oil changes than a turbocharged engine and it's really where BMW's roots are.

    great review. I would also go for the 6-speed manual and spend the 2k extra that the automatic gearbox costs in options

    • @klavier285
      @klavier285 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what country you're from but on the US site for building this car the manual transmission is a $0 option. Meaning it doesn't matter if you buy the automatic or the manual, it's the same price. Which I think is bullshit since every other automaker charges less for the manual. On the plus side your cars resale will probably be higher with the manual though.

    • @kmb96
      @kmb96 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not that automakers charge less for manuals it's just they charge more for autos. Look at it as bmw telling you that you can get the transmission that makes YOU happy without spending extra. At least the manual is an option unlike some other cars.

    • @alvaroffdelamo
      @alvaroffdelamo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Khris Bradford Depends on the country, in europe normally automatic is like 2k extra, in the US has same price as previous comment says

    • @kmb96
      @kmb96 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I know the auto is extra in a lot of cars but I was pointing out that he wouldn't save 2K for options by getting the manual instead of the auto since the car costs the same either way :)

    • @alvaroffdelamo
      @alvaroffdelamo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Khris Bradford In the US, but not in europe! the auto is like +2k in all bmws and most other brands

      www.kbb.com/what-is/moon-roof/
      truthfully a moon roof is more of a "built in" glass panel that has a sliding upholstered cover that can cover the inside of the glass blocking out the sunlight.
      while sun roofs tend to slide back all the way, and have a panel that covers it from the outside.
      though honestly they are super similar and originally similar meaning.

  • @coureurdebois
    @coureurdebois 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    i am glad they are really focusing on the 2 series BUT and its a BIG but... it just feels like you are literally getting simply less in interior, performance, handling, and exterior styling then the 3 / 4 series. now i am a bit partial as i own a 09 M3 coupe (which by no means is superior interior wise) but the 2 does not feel like the "new" interpretation of the M3... its just lacking that BMW performance, quality, and lineage.

    • @n9athan
      @n9athan 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You also get less weight and a shorter wheelbase which = more nimble.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      n9athan shorter wheelbase does not = more nimble. longer wheelbase = better handling, stability, and traction.

    • @n9athan
      @n9athan 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      justin bouche It does in this case, arguing otherwise is just ignoring physics.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      n9athan makes no sense, why do you think ferrari have extended their wheelbase from generation to generation? mclaren as well. cadillac as well. shorter wheel base might make sense in your head as being better because its "smaller" but physics doesn't work like that. stability and traction dictate that.

    • @lilliu90716

      E92 M3 are the real all time great in my opinion, but it dose feel a bit heavy and track focused. I have drove stock and lightly modded E92 M3 and my girl friend just got the M235i, the real surprise is not how fast, stable and nimble the car is(it better be!), but its comfortable and quite cabin with superb fuel economy. She is getting 24mpg with mostly city driving and heavy traffic! The seat is as good if not better than the stock seat from the E92 and it's much quite with comfort setting, but gets very loud and exciting if set to sport. Remember, this car is normally for younger people's first bmw, it should be a little bit of every good quality bmw has to offer, sporty, fashion, luxury, safety, efficient and technology. I think bmw did a better job than Mercedes and Audi. My GF used to drive a Audi Q5 and she really wants the new X4, but I talk her to get the real bmw and she loved it!

With its near perfect 50/50 weight distribution, it feels like the car is turning around your body. Its weird, but so cool! I could almost hear her saying, "thats all you got? Spank me harder!" 😄❤

      Hamza Al-Farra What's confusing about it? BMWusa.com, build a vehicle, it gives you all the vehicles with a base price right below them, even before you select anything. You then are carried through 5 sections where you can select color, interior, packages, and accessories, with a total price on the right side of the screen throughout the entire process.

Yet, am having issues with the heated seats coming on automatically when I don't want them, Radio should be default screen after using nav or ext devices when the car is turn off/on again, updates to the software should be automatic, why do I need a usb device to do it? This is an expensive vehicle while it rides nice still has a lot of catch up to the Japanese instrumentation.

    • @kmb96
      @kmb96 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The 47K price tag is with all the expensive options added on. You can get an M235 which is a turbo six at 44K stock. Base price of the 228i is equal to challenger R/T or a no options GT. Thing is, you're getting a lot better fuel economy as well as comfort. Not to mention some solid performance in a drivers car. I'm cross shopping the 228 with a no options GT right now so I know what I'm talking about.
