      @Avantika I don’t think present generation so called millenial fares any better in dispelling the stereotype. I have been into countless WhatsApp discussions and called spoilsport or it’s a joke babe for objecting to sexist jokes of nagging wives. I am tired of it but still tirelessly point it out in every opportunity hoping that one day sexism besides these so called “ harmless” jokes is acknowledged

      People tend to paint with a broad brush when they use the word mother. So let me help:
      A: giving birth is no more a miracle than a toaster making toast. It’s what you’re designed to do. It basically means you were able to convince a male to have sex with you. Not a difficult feat at all.
      B: Never equate your self with an individual’s mother. I only have one mother, and I don’t care that you have children. It doesn’t make you special or entitle you to special treat or deference I may show my actual mother.
      If you really want to be liberated, if you want something done, do it yourself. If men expect others to do things for them they probably had an Oedipal Mother.

    I saw a whatsapp forward describing how miserable a man's life had become in lockdown. Obviously the reason is the constant nagging of his wife. From what I have seen, the workload of women increases when men are at home especially when they considers lockdown as their perfect time for relaxation while women does'nt get a single day leave from her chores. Both women and men are mocked at if they dress up non-conventionally that doesn't conform to gender norms though. Like men wearing makeup and skirts, and women wearing tomboyish clothes. Can you tell an anecdote so we can relate, as it must be very common going by the popularity of the nagging wife jokes and complaints, but still all we can perceive is husbands being ungrateful and not willing to adjust towards the relationship?
      I have seen many nagging wives which irritates me but often comes from someone being ignored or having a world not bigger than a few people. Since the day my mom found enough freedom and supportive neighbours to go on trips even religious ones, she's discovered what fun and freedom and happiness mean and has become more cool in allowing us more freedom.

    • @klpnaGupta
      @klpnaGupta 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rahul Roy I am not saying you are mansplaining. I think you might have a good reason for your complaint, but asking for anecdotes and evidence to ensure you are not simply hating on women, like how the Yash Dakhare person above has demonstrated. I agree that many louder feminist voices have gone towards blaming men too much without caring to listen to them. And I felt if I think I can contribute in striking a better conversation, I should speak up.
      I am not womansplaning men's issues and only trying to state my perception of men unfairly and ungratefully stereotying their nagging wives because ~3-4 out of 5 men around me openly make fun of their wives and complaining if she asks you to come home on time when they are freely having fun regularly with friends while the wives stay at home.
      Now that I stress my memory, 3 cases come to mind where the wife is actually abusive and the man tries his best to keep the family together. I wouldn't joke about that nagging. I'll call it torture and would be worried about the husband and other family members. And trust me, I have seen almost every acquaintance worrying about them.
      I perceive the 'nagging controlling wife' stereotype more in the context of husbands from regular healthy families bashing their wives and calling it a joke when confronted, but no similar bashing by majority of wives I've seen.
      Let me read other responses and video above before I say more.

    Nagging is a genuine term. But why a mother's or wife's request/command is taken as nagging? In school a child has to obey his teacher like doing homework, classwork etc. Our sports teacher or gym instructor always push us to our limits and sometimes we hate them but still do everything he says. In our workplace also our senior will give us some work to do and we will get a good scolding if we don't do it right. So why for eg if my mother tells me to keep my shoe in the shoestand and not throw it around everytime, it's considered nagging? We could also then say that fathers are nagging their daughters in 20s to get married. So why some naggings are accepted and some are not?

      @@maikbanner7552 you really gave thought and time to reply under my comment, first of all appreciation for that. Secondly, your allocation of 243 minutes of a woman's time to household work is vague and non specific. It varies with socio economic groups, time of the year, no. of members in the family, etc.
      1. There are 5 socioeconomic grps in India. Most women in low SE grp work as maids, contractual labour etc in addition to doing household work. Avg-low grp woman are also employed in small businesses etc. I believe that most women in avg and avg-high grps are working as housewives, but not all. And I believe that men in avg to high-avg groups work 9-5 in 5 days a week and most of it is not physical or manual labour. I can say this bcz I come in this grp and my work is a sitting and writing job.
      2. Raising a child is hands down, the most difficult job any man or woman would do. Thats the reason our indian govt is the frst govt to launch a family planning program. Less children less worries. I agree that a fathers financial input is most important for growth of a child, but a mother's love, care, emotions, teaching sanskaar is equally important bcz all studying and schooling would go to waste if a child grows up to be a criminal.. I can back this fact bcz recently I hv been reading into true crime stories recently and most of them, if not all have had a traumatic childhood.
      3. A mother's work is increments exponentially during the time of festivals especially hindu festivals which occur round the year. When husband and the kids are enjoying a holiday, she has to do extra work of cleaning and special food, sweets for all including guests. And I would like to add its very uncomfortable in an indian summer and an indian hot kitchen.
      4. Just today, I saw someone posted a pic on twitter where a mother was on oxygen but she was standing in the kitchen making rotis. Her son posted this captioning mothers unconditional love. Now I dont know the full backstory so I wont comment but i do feel a little sad about it.
      Coming to the point of this video, i think a mother's "nagging" is mostly to inculcate good habits in children. And a wife's "nagging" i dont know, maybe its a tea talk among men to vent out their frustration. I dont know, I am not a wife yet.

    *Sitting behind a phonescreen with legs relaxed on a recliner asking the wife to make tea-- Sending messages is easy. A man who listens to his wife and his wife also listens to him is often made fun of because the 'SPINELESSNESS'. A marriage is essentially a legal union or contract that holds legal value to rights and wished. Consider marriage rituals in India, A girl is "married off", "given to"...even the Kanyadaan is a wedding ritual where the bride's father gives away his daughter. In South Indian weddings there's a ritual where the groom gets up in the middle of the wedding and refused to marry the bride claiming that he wants to be more religious and study further and give up all the pleasures of the world after which he walks away and the bride's father has to chase him and beg and plead him to come back and marry his daughter as she will be his companion for life. Why is this ritual limited to the groom? Can't the bride want to study further or be religious instead of marrying a man? Why can't the bride have her in-laws chasing after her, begging her to marry their son?“Pati parmeshwar” is a pretty cliché phrase in our society. Saas-bahu serials should just patent it now.
    The concept of equating the husband to god in the eyes of the subservient wife, is emphasised every time the bride is asked to bend and reach for her life partner's feet. Some Indian weddings even have the bride and her family wash the groom’s feet.Sure, many of us touch our elder’s feet to show them respect and that may not be demeaning to someone, personally. But in a marriage, respect should go both ways. HOW CAN WE EXPECT EQUAL LABOUR WHEN THIS STUFF EXISTS*

    In each and every comedy video .....the main topic for male comedians is to stereotype women and show how miserable life of a man becomes after marriage.....I wonder how everyone is so hypocrite and has double standards that even when there are countless news about women being harassed or being victim of domestic violence etc etc, ppl still talk about how women are making their life hard .....when in fact that is also because they don't listen to women and help in anything as you have higelighted here.

    • @vishakha9199

      Sorry, I didn't get you.

    • @vishakha9199
      @vishakha9199 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Yash Dakhare moreover.....in most cases in India girls are not allowed to choose whom they want to marry
      It is chosen for them by family.....in many cases they don't even have any chance to give their opinion...

    • @vishakha9199
      @vishakha9199 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Yash Dakhare yes I agree....if a woman is financially independent and doesn't depend on her husband for living then there are less chances of getting harassed but just because husband is working outside doesn't give him any right to harass his wife.....in such cases wife takes care of house....and household chores are also very very tiring.....so even if she doesn't earn she at least is doing something that is worth a lot but she doesn't get paid.....
      Also you know ppl have just started to put money and efforts in educating girls and empowering them financially....a lot of women are not in working positions
      Other than that
      Men and society need to normalize wives earning more than husbands or only wives earning not husbands.....but I hope you know how big of a taboo they make out of it if something like this happens....also even if women earn more than their husbands still they are supposed to take care of house alone .....because roots of this system are so deep...and off course many women fight against it and deny .....but then they are humiliated by society , closed ones everyone....they are continuously taunted saying angry feminist etc etc....and then one more thing is added to it that... just because she earns she doesn't have any kind of manners and doesn't respect her husband, relatives etc etc....

    • @vishakha9199
      @vishakha9199 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Yash Dakhare agreed!!

    • @vishakha9199
      @vishakha9199 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ahan gupta true....
      Because women are generally not given any part in inheritance from parents....so if someone doesn't earn enough on her own ...there is nothing which can back her up....but dowry and alimony both should be removed slowly....society should change thinking about inheritance first..... legally girls are given the right in inheritance from parents but society has not accepted it....so that is why alimony can't be phased out suddenly....
      Another option is that it can be made 2 way thing
      If wife is more well financially and husband is somehow dependent then he can be given alimony and vice versa
      That will make things equal for everyone.
