    You nailed it with your opening statement... yes I'm considering buying one therefore I'm watching this video LOL.
    Great video with demonstration of it's versatility and how I'd use it most. So now I need to determine if I want to save $100 by getting the 12 ton 🤔

    awesome idea to use the plates vertically as a die. Very smart!

    that trick with the plates clamped to make 90 bends with bar stock is nice. they also sell a 12 in brake kit for doing wider metal. cheers

    I went to get the 12 ton but they had this on sale for almost the same price. All I've used it for so far is bending the tines straight on my manually tiller. Couldn't have done it without this. A great tool to have!

      Glad to hear it man hopefully this thing works out for you if you ever have to push out bearings is totally worth it.

    I would use it for my press in wheel bearings that always go bad on front wheel drive cars.

    I like the idea about the zip ties I’m going to put them on mine. I have that 20 press I bought at Harbor freight that’s like yours.

    I have owned my 20 ton HF press for a while , but i feel really stupid. watching you use it with the metal plates as a brake was like a light bulb went off in my head. I never put 2 and 2 together on why all the v and round cutouts were there. 😕

    • @stephengoad3091
      @stephengoad3091  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well there not exactly made for that, but I found it very useful in bending small metal pieces for projects.
      As you probably know these half circles are there to push bearings on rods,like axle shafts and transmission shaft.
      I guess the triangles are there for odd shaped pieces.
      Happy I could help have you pressing.

    Nice video I just found one someone left at a rental property it is missing a few parts but I think that I can replace them .I understand what I need now Thanks

      @stephengoad3091  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I'm happy I could help hopefully you get all the parts you need if I had to guess you're probably minus the push plates if so you're special deal on eBay for a set just like mine these plates are great like I stayed in the video you can do a lot of different things with all these angles.
      They are $49.99 and there for a 20-ton shot press as long as you got a big enough deck they should work for 12 time as well.

    Steve, thanks for sharing these elegant tips; the zip ties for packing out the jack platform and the press plates as a v-block especially! Makes me want to smack myself upside the head and say "DUH!" In my defense, the plates supplied with my older Harbor Freight twenty ton were cast iron, and not at all easy to prop up on edge. I am curious to know if your press platform rocks on its pins like mine (and many, many, other's) did? It was manufactured with a twist. Some folks assumed the pin holes in the uprights were not aligned, but I am quite sure that they all suffered from the same problem: one guy somewhere in China with a welding table that was not leveled for years. Sheesh, all it would have taken was a shim under one leg. Actually, this had very serious implications, as the platform became a powerful spring in itself and would be pressed flat into a wound up condition before any work got done. Some guys would try to press at or beyond the specifications of the jack, and crack those cast iron plates I mentioned, which was bad enough; but the energy stored in that wound up platform would propel the broken plates with extremely dangerous force. All the best!

    • @stephengoad3091
      @stephengoad3091  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah my also has the rock as well in the platform.
      Somewhere between possibly a quarter inch to 1/8 in rock.
      I myself have never found the time to cure the problem, but I would say the best way to cure the problem would be to set the whole stand on a very level surface can I should take a level and level it on both horizons.
      Then level the platform with a level and see which hole is out of level then take a ream the same size as the pen and ream the whole out on the top side slightly and that should bring you back to level.
      And thanks for leaving the comment.

    How did you attach the press plate to the bottom of the ram when you bent the 90* angle?

    • @stephengoad3091
      @stephengoad3091  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well what I actually did was got a pipe that fit over the round ram portion.
      Then I will do 3/8 flat bar stock in the shape of a T and welded the pipe on top of that.
      Then I could slide it up on the shaft of the press and I could adjust it back and forth.
      Another way possibly you could do this is if you had a splitting wedge for wood that was metal you could probably grind the top flat and use that as your push.
      Although you'd have to be very careful with that method because if it wasn't directly in the center you could easily pop off to the side I do recommend getting a pipe and welding whatever you use on to that pipe so it can't slide off and come out with the press.
      Hope this helps I'm here if you need anything further.
      Merry Christmas

    • @stephengoad3091

      They are just some old brake line been up in that format.
      Believe it's 3/8 steel brake line.
      They do come in handy and I haven't had a problem out of them yet.
      Hope this helped.
