- The quest for why the channel views have reduced so much continues. I'm not entirely sure whether this is a TH-cam bug or whether people are just not interested any more. I do know that TH-cam is now banned in Russia so there goes 25% of my audience. Even so, it doesn't explain the absolutely catastrophic reduction in views over the last 12 months.
I managed to find some time to go through and delete dozens, if not hundreds, of videos from around the period when the views got very low. I couldn't really find anything that was even mildly contentious so maybe it goes back even further? Who knows? I do know that there was a major TH-cam algorithm update around this period changing the way the videos were offered to 'seed' audiences. No doubt, there was some sort of cockup in that rollout. Heaven help us all when these Nerds introduce full AI.
I hope this channel grows and gets the help it deserves

The algorithm is such an elusive thing, I can't claim to know anything about it, but I hope the channel grows cause the kitties deserve it 💖🐾
Yes, exactly so. A monetised channel is a valuable thing. It's something I was hoping to leave as a legacy to the cats after I am gone. However, that aim doesn't seem achievable any more.
@@Billscatsandstuff That's such a lovely idea, I'm sorry it's not going so well. But there's hope. I think you have to have certain titles that draw people in. And the editing is very important, people are all about the look of things. It catches their eye.
There are people now that do consultancy work for TH-camrs as it's gone so complicated! Maybe have a look at other animal channels and see how they draw people in and retain them as a long time viewer. Wish I could be more helpful but I'm way out of my depths on this one!

Your videos are not being recommended to others who watch cat videos for some reason. I've heard that if a channel gets a lot of thumbs down, or rather the videos do, then that can happen. But I can't imagine anyone giving yours a thumbs down! Especially when it's obvious, even if people don't read your description, that you have a cat rescue and you and Tina are doing good work. I wish there were an actual live human at youtube that you could call for answers.
Hi Gail, the channel average for likes is something like 98.8% It's 100% on longer videos because it's only subscribers who watch, or the vast majority are subs. TH-cam's answer would just be that the videos are unpopular but, a blind person can see from their own data that something changed in February 2024.

I don’t know. Maybe some of the viewers favorite cats had to put to sleep and they were hurt and they didn’t want to get hurt????? I have no idea but I do know that is painful
That certainly could be one reason. I'm very much aware that people don't want to see the messy stuff so I try to avoid that. I know that I can't watch some videos about animals. Equally, I do want to show authenticity with as little self censorship as possible. You're right though, we've been down some hard roads with more to come. I know of some good friends, subscribers and donors who have left the channel because they couldn't watch (Ginger and Fred were the last examples I can think of). I think I will delete a few videos from around the Feb 2024 time period and see what happens. Perhaps someone complained about something specific. TH-cam are very poor at communicating because it's mainly run by robots now.

Bill, I've been following you for about a year. When i first started viewing and looked back at older videos, there was a pretty old one where you said you were going to stop. Did you stop for any length of time? Maybe fell off the algorithm cliff? And old viewers dont realise you're back?
I think I took a week off although I can't remember precisely. It's possible though. Losing all the Russian viewers hasn't helped, of course, but TH-cam has only been banned in Russia for a month or two.

Yeah, understood 😺 but shooting videos of cats is tricky. I'd need to shoot all the videos in super slomo to get 10 minutes out of them. Cheers for the advice, though.

Some time back, maybe early last year there was a video you posted regarding the headquarters of a certain platform (this'un) where it was evident that you were less than happy about the way things were being run. You mentioned the location of the head office and alluded to the quality of people running it. The video was mostly shots of the buildings over the back field from you, in and out of close up.
I wonder if what you said about the wicked behemoth was picked up and one of the plonkers decided that you needed a good, hard shadow banning?
I've seen shadow banning absolutely destroy rescues and activist pages on other social platforms, never underestimate it.
I'm still watching all you put out and liking in a frenzy, including the comments to help engagement (if it does) on the telly (my eyes dictate when I can get on via my phone 🙄)
I love seeing all you get up to caring for the cats. I think it's hugely important to show the grim stuff too, though it's hellish hard to watch sometimes (I have to choose when I view the hard stuff, even though I've helped cats in similar states most of my life) Some people may not be aware of the sheer, emotional slog that gets a cat or kitten from death's door to bright, perky and thriving.
It's a hard balance to strike. But I think you do get a good balance, managing to pepper the day's videos with lighter moments.
You might have already removed the video I mentioned up there, just thought I'd mention it as it struck me that you were openly expressing your huge disdain for the powers that be and that might have hurt their fragile, precious petal egos.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, I remember that video clearly but I'm not sure if I binned it yet. There are also others in a similar vein. There are many videos where I refer to their sharp practices such as showing adverts during my videos while the channel isn't monetised. There are also many videos where I refer to them as scammers, which they are. Even if you do get monetised TH-cam take 48% of your revenue. Recently, I also mentioned that Trump intended to jail those who censor content. The social (antisocial) media landscape is blighted by sociopolitical ideology and until that is rooted out people will only be fed what they want you to see. Personally, I've just about had enough of it. I won't lose anything if I quit, in fact, I may get what's left of my life back. Cheers, Bill

No, the channel isn't monetised. TH-cam make sure of that.
This puzzles me, too. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I've watched through older videos and it's definitely the same type of content. I enjoyed everything and watch everything. I might be late sometimes, but if I do happen to miss a day I catch up. I always like and comment as well. I'm sure most of the regulars here do just the same. It's weird to have some many subscribers, yet so little views. I do know that some of the other channels I watch get less views than they used to, but I'm not sure to when it started or why. Some of them started to make content that they enjoyed doing for the sake of their sanity and some people didn't like it, so they unsubscribed or just quit watching. I like that you share news, whether it's good, bad or ugly because I'm invested in these lovely animals, and you and Tina, and like to know how everyone is doing. It's heartbreaking sometimes, but it's unavoidable. Anyway, I really hope that some miracle occurs and the channel thrives again because it's well deserved. For you, Tina and all of the cats and animals... I'll stay hopeful.🤞🤞🙏🫂❤
Some people don't like bad news, for sure. I, too, am reluctant to watch videos that show animals in any form of distress. In fact, I just don't. I'm very glad that I posted this video so that loyal subscribers can see that my moaning is not for nothing. My shorts used to get thousands of views but now around 450 is the absolute maximum. Initially I thought it was that I don't use Thumbnails or, rather, I used auto-generated thumbnails, that was causing the problem. However, I experimented with creating thumbnails and it made no difference at all. I don't have time today but from tomorrow I'm going to go through each video and check / amend/ delete them especially from around the period when things changed. I know that something is going on because, sometimes, they don't even recommend the videos to me on my other account where I checked all the videos. Usually, they do but not always by a long way. Thank you for your wonderful contribution to the channel 👍🙏
@Billscatsandstuff Yeah... there's a few animal channels that I watch (mostly cats). One of them is Kitten Academy. They have a "no sads" policy where they try to keep sad stuff to a minimum. I'm grateful for that, but also like to know. I think that you keep a good balance where it's not too detailed, yet enough information. It's strange that the shorts aren't getting many views anymore either. I'm sorry that even creating thumbnails didn't do anything. It's all very odd. That will definitely take lots of time to go through all of them. Good luck! Oh wow... it's very weird that they're not even recommended to you on your other account! Something is certainly off about it. I really hope that everything can be figured out and that you start to get more views. The pleasure is mine as I enjoy your channel and I'm so glad that it was recommended to me apparently before this got so bad.😊
@frozen-marvel8301 I think I may stop doing shorts altogether because they, clearly, aren't what people want. To be honest my Modus Operandi for the shorts was to keep those who are already subscribed up to date with individual animals, their progress (or otherwise) and their development not as an introduction for new viewers. So what happens is that new viewers don't understand the significance of a Short and are left wondering "why shoot that video at all?"
@Billscatsandstuff Shorts really are nice when you only have a little bit to say or show. That definitely makes sense. Us regulars would certainly know what they're all about, but newcomers wouldn't have a clue. I do like the shorts, but if they're hurting the channel then unfortunately you might have to scrap them.

I don't have a clue either 😁. I remember that round about this time the channel got a warning for H8 speech. This was related to people expressing what they would like to do to animal abusers. I can't find the relevant videos or comments. I've got no time tomorrow but after that it'll be full time Inspector Cluseau to find and delete stuff. I doubt that it will help but I'll try it.
