This was actually one of my thoughts while watching VP connect to macbooks. Because once connected, it kinda sucks that the physical display is useless but you still need the keyboard and trackpad. But if you could remove the physical screen, then no waste.
Honestly really cool and i think would be a good use scenario in like a version 2 or 3 or the regular consumer version down the line. Most ppl dont need a laptop all the time but the few times we do, just to connect to it with a “display” you already use would be cool.
Like if iphones could dock with a headset and offer the same software and fidelity that vision pro does. but then when you wanna use a macbook you just “look” at it and connect.

This isn't stupid at all, it's actually brilliant and I wouldn't be surprised if it were to become part of the future of computing eventually. First, it completely eliminates the necessity of a screen (obviously) then it frees the user from the limitations of size and placement. My only thoughts would be does the resolution compared to that of the original screen? Is it as clear and crisp, the colors and contrast comparable? For those who use their machines for image production whether still or video, these things would be important. The next question is the reality of expense. The VR is expensive far beyond the average user's pocketbook unless (like most Americans) being willing to go into debt and chain themselves to a lousy job as a result. I mean, after all... we're just talking about things here and we do this for far less important things.

Get a magnetic hinge attached to the top, use an ipad 12.9” that can detach and then trace a flat usb c cable to it/ get the astropad luna display. Touch screen when you want, floating screen when you dont.

Best for Mac Mini (M4 and later, due to the slimmer design) which works along with a combo of the USB-C Trackpad and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.

I'd want a different form factor. Who's that one guy who does all the kit bash things like the portable PS5? He should do one with a Mac mini, Magic Trackpad, and a nice keyboard plus a decent sized battery.

Just wanted to acknowledge the fact you wrote the 1 second doctor line, looked for the clothes for the costume, set up the camera, filmed it, transferred it, and edited it. As a former videographer, I appreciate the work that goes into this, haha

I’m actually surprised this hasn’t been considered yet! Consider having a keyboard line that has the computer embedded inside - heck maybe even a mechanical keyboard line. And then, even without the Vision Pro, you could still traditionally connect it to an external display but perhaps in the same vein as the Vision Pro (wireless display) making for an even more minimal office layout! Maybe it could turn into a new off-branch of the Mac Mini line 🤔

I love it! This is an amazing idea. Lighter laptop. A lot more battery life (even, when charges the VP?) Cheaper product as screens are expensive (I know VP is expensive, but that’s also it’s own device, not just an external monitor, which professional ones cost the same)

I have an M2 MacBook Air that I woke up to it completely submerged in a big bucket of water, it was sitting there for hours I had no hopes of it working but I let it dry out with a fan for a couple days and left it on a shelf thinking I just have a nice looking paperweight. Plugged it in for shits and giggles the next week not expecting anything to happen and to my surprise my Mac booted up with no issues, the screen looks kind of like an abstract art project and it only works plugged in but it’s great with the Vision Pro it feels more like an upgrade than a workaround! 🙃🥴

Hey Luke, I saw your video with the headless mac and the way you used the displaycover-thing to house the wifi-antenna. I've done a headless mac, but I used an wifi-antenna from inside an old router, just one cable and conected it to the middle of the three antenna-ports and also conected the antenna from the chassie to the fourth port. Leaving two antenna ports unconnected. And then I just placed the wifi-antenna inside the body of the mac in a spot right by the trackpad (almost underneeth the top of the trackpad). And it works great. Actually gets better reception than the original mac-antenna. So you dont need that ugly black tejp thing. :)
