This makes my heart feel heavy. The feeling of nostalgia man, it's such a weird feeling, both good and bad at the same time, can't even describe it. I still remember this when i first got it. Loaded for minutes. The first time i got out of the tunnel, saw the vegetation, the water it was unreal. Games were different as a kid. Life was different. Kids always want to grow up fast, do the stuff you can do after 18...don't rush it kids, being a kid is the best part...and life is short.

I complete on realistic a couple of years ago, in September 2023 started on veteran, completed it but a 3 weeks ago decide to start on realistic again. It really BEEN extremely hard. I made my PC to play this game! Geforce FX 5200 128MB - and had the Fog bug, had to dig around to fix it. They never made a sequel, instead sold it to UBISOFT. what a time and coming to age of the developer CRYTEK.
I remember my uncle showing me his very own desktop when we went over to his house back in the day. It was a big deal at the time. This game was on his screen and he let me play... That was the beginning of my PC gaming journey.
This is true for me as well..I went to my cousin elder brother and he gave his Nvidia installed PC with GTA V FARCRY NFS MOST WANTED AND CARBON AND DOOM GAMES to play in his AC room in summer and i remember that I was in his room for 5 days straight gaming eating sleeping and i requested him to buy me a PC with Nvidia Graphics card..best graphics card at that time and AMD was on market but nothing can beat NVIDIA. I remembered that my PC was at he top on my friend group for 5 year's atleast 😂

This game is still, 20 years later, graphically very nice. On some bits of the video I had to skip back a few seconds to admire the lighting effects and textures again.

Played this as a kid and fell in love with it instantly. 20 years later its still one of the games that made the most impression on me. By the way the difference between the quality in the scenes around 1:23:25 and then after 1:23:32 is hilarious.
The water reflections are more realistic than in many games that came later. Nowadays for some reason you need RTX pathtracing to get those reflections of the environment, while back in 2004 they got reflections of the environment quite well with no pathtracing nor penalty at framerate. Look at 2:54... each mountain and rocks and trees are reflected at that water. I suppose they simply rendered the scenary upside down and the upside down version was used on the water shader reflection.
Exactly and no annoying blurry effects, everything is sharp even in far distance. This game has like 3GB and it's playable single core Pentium 4 with some geforce 6600 and it's 20 years old. Today games want HW like 1000 more powerfull, but looks only 10 times better.
I've been sleeping on this game bigtime, wow. It looks really good and the gameplay looks super smooth. It looks like it's the kind of game to still hold up to this day

FarCry 1 is the final evolution of FPS games for me, it has everything what is fun about games, it's peak of FPS gener, after 2004, FPS games are not fun anymore. Today games are that complicated that it feels more like work to learn how to play that than actual fun.
I agree, FarCry is one of the best games I have ever played in my life. First real open-world FPS, amazing AI and beautiful. Modern games are just scaled too much, quantity over quality. Also pilled up with unnecessary RPG elements, modify guns, adding extra damage or reload speed etc. I want to see advanced AI and physic, that is what's fun for me, not Starfield's, 20000+ planets
@@bojanjonoski2759 I would not say literally open world, but you had much more possibilities than it was standard in FPS games and saving system counted with that, you could swim and go from other direction and checkpoint system was not destroyed by that. Most of other games which looked like they have kind of open world were mostly broken when you tried to go from other side. And I agree with AI, it's literally better than in a lot of today games. And don't take me wrong, I love complicated RPG games, but when I want to play classic FPS game, I want just simplier fun, not learning all RPG features which increase probability that game will be bugged. Simplier FPS games have mostly less bugs, today developers are doing work which is not actually necessary I think.
I don't agree. The last traditional FPS game was F.E.A.R. (2005). It was not as "wide open" as Far Cry but it was better in terms of gameplay and fun. Far Cry was a great game but it lacked of satisfying gunplaying feedback (but the strategic part was very good). It opened the era of open world games, it was pioneristic and nowadays is a bit underrated.
@@mattonthemoon225 FEAR was not better than Far Cry, it was just different game, slightly different gener, after 20 years, I will better play FarCry again, not FEAR. Gun paly in FC was good for me, guns had nice sounds, you had button for switching modes where single shots were more accurate for long distance, it was more complex then you realize or remember. I miss these functions in modern FPS games. I hope Stalker 2 will have them, let's hope.
@@Pidalin we simply have different tastes. I played them recently and yes, they're different (the environment and the style of play) but both were top notch FPS for their period. For my tastes I prefer the frenetic action and sligtly horror of Fear but I also liked Far Cry a lot. The sensation of being alone with criminals around the isle is unique and very movie-like. (Sadly the official movie was very bad)
For an almost 20 year old game it still looks fucking great. The mid 2000s game industry is smack dab in the prime of gaming. It won't ever be this great again.

Technically this game inspired Crysis 1 (not to mention that both of them had same developers (Crytek)). But Far Cry later became a trademark to Ubisoft, while Crysis is to Crytek (even so it was published by EA).
I loved FC1. I don't know why so many complained about the "dumb" story. The mix of the mercenaries and trigens was great. Some part of the game have a lot of jump-scare moments.
If this game had a remake with crazy good graphics just imagine what the monsters would be like. It would actually feel scary again like when I first played when I was around 8 😂
Another way to make the game extra hard is to finish it without being shot once. In order to do that you have to crawl a lot, shoot one, and move....shoot another and move...

wow what a game, this was my introduction to gaming when i was 6 years old. once i got to the levels in the ship with the mutants i couldnt go further because i was too scared, this is actually the only game ever that gave me nightmares they dont do masterpieces like this anymore. i catually gave away the disc i had for the game to a friend of mine who had birthday because i couldnt handle the game after i got to the mutant levels i was too scared 😂

Never managed to finish this one. Played a couple first missions at a friends house, couldn't play at home. Computer couldn't handle it. When I remembered about it's existence again, couldn't make it work on new hardware and windows 10. Didn't know it has Pancor "Jackhammer". My favorite shotgun, even if it doesn't exist. Probably to late, but what worked for me on pc was lowering lighting setting from very high to just high everything else can be maxed out or to your preferences in settings but once that is done it should launch.
Not using your bio reader binocs enough, IMO. Also, why not use the shotgun? Aside from that (just what I would do) I enjoyed your playthrough. You are pretty darn good at head shots! Thanks.
Sitting in my office, letting this zoom by on my 3rd screen. The freaking nostaglia hits very hard ! I remember playing this as a 12 year old on realase year in the summer holdays at my uncles place. He had like a mega PC back then where we were able to put the graphics to maximum ! The after playing for hours I saw the first Tri-Gen and litterally fell backward from the chair, i'd gotten so scared. Great great times !

came here to celebrate 20 year anniversary of FC1 and the very good old gaming days without holding hands the hole time in games.
wow what a game, this was my introduction to gaming when i was 6 years old.
once i got to the levels in the ship with the mutants i couldnt go further because i was too scared, this is actually the only game ever that gave me nightmares they dont do masterpieces like this anymore.
i catually gave away the disc i had for the game to a friend of mine who had birthday because i couldnt handle the game after i got to the mutant levels i was too scared 😂

Bro same my dad was the one who got the game and I was about 8yo and only played the first quarter because I got scared shitless when the mutant monsters started showing and wouldn't play anymore, so I sat next to him and watched him play 😂 I looked it up and this game is on steam and only uses like 5gb. Time to get it again and speedrun this shit 😤

Great game, needs a tech refresh.
Never managed to finish this one. Played a couple first missions at a friends house, couldn't play at home. Computer couldn't handle it. When I remembered about it's existence again, couldn't make it work on new hardware and windows 10. Didn't know it has Pancor "Jackhammer". My favorite shotgun, even if it doesn't exist. Thanks for the ride^_^

Good game and lots of maps and mods for it too to prolong the fun.
headshots, lots of look-arounds, moments of "umm what"-looks. Love it, would play the same way, enjoyed every minute of it :)

What platform did you play on because i remember on Uplay i could never get this old beauty to launch.
Probably to late, but what worked for me on pc was lowering lighting setting from very high to just high everything else can be maxed out or to your preferences in settings but once that is done it should launch.

Sitting in my office, letting this zoom by on my 3rd screen. The freaking nostaglia hits very hard ! I remember playing this as a 12 year old on realase year in the summer holdays at my uncles place. He had like a mega PC back then where we were able to put the graphics to maximum ! The after playing for hours I saw the first Tri-Gen and litterally fell backward from the chair, i'd gotten so scared. Great great times !

Such a beautiful yet dangerous island filled with mercs and trigens. I always wanted to play this game with highest graphics but I don't have a powerful PC. Still its amazing to see this beautiful game.❤️🤜🤛
