I apologize lol. I know we share a lot of subscribers. If people are giving you the most questions about a model 610, it's more than likely my fault. You have valid points, I mostly got mine because I was worried about getting even a single malfunction if I picked up a new 10mm pistol, which I would never hear the end of it how I "limp wrist". I can definitely see how someone would be like "you paid what? For THAT! - WHY??". I used to have that same model 629 with the half lug, I traded it in 12 years ago and I regret it.

Tons of people will fling a blanket over these decisions, time after time - based on their own personal circumstances - and everyone else should adhere to those & those only.
When it's really pretty nuanced and situational...and comes down to probabilities.
      What are the odds? of:
      1. an attack
      2. being able to even draw
      3. getting ANY hits
      4. needing multiple hits - and being able to make them, quickly enough
      5. needing to reload
      6. having a malfunction
      7. having time to clear a malfunction
      8. others (one more caliber, availability, serviceability, etc, etc.)
The same guy could benefit sometimes to have his .44 mag revolver in a chest holster, or other times instead having a 10mm with 16 rds on his hip.
Being out by himself along the foggy, rocky coast standing over a partially broken-down elk and unable to see around the bend 20 yards away, isn't the same as being with 3 other armed defenders who all also have rifles and looking every direction all able to see 300 yards clearly.
I'd personally carry two; a revolver & semi-auto if I ever thought a grizzly attack is even somewhat possible. If extremely likely, I doubt I'd ever go it alone.

@@GunSam I've seen your videos with your converted Glock 41 & I've seen enough problems with the 41 with factory 45acp ammo to know that gun wasn't a good choice from the beginning. I have a Glock 40 that doesn't have problems but it was made with a heavier slide specifically for 10mm. Those who understand that don't "diagnose" your 41's reliability issue because we know it's actually a design problem. I suggest not letting the comments get to you so much but I also get why you do.

I value your opinion, but I have multiple 10mm semi autos and the 610in 4.5 and 6 inch. I love the consistency of my 10mm covering both my semi and wheel gun without having multiple cartridges. I do have a 40S&W semi auto so this makes it nice to have the practice ammo for the wheel gun. I also like using the moon clips for quick reloads rather than the speed loaders. My preference and opinion.

Everyone had G 20 autos in camp. I had a 5" GP100 357 mag. with my own handload of a 160gr. Hardcast over 18gr. Of H110 .they all made sport of me saying the 357 was inadequate compared to their 10mm.
I pointed out that my 357 had more ft.lb. of energy than their 10's but they just gave me a hard time.

Hey, I, too, am a 10mm fan. I first became interested in the 10mm in the early 1980's. That is when the gun mags were writing about the Bren Ten. Produced by Dornaus & Dixon Enterprises. The company faced production problems and was short-lived. Jeff Cooper and Whit Collins were credited with developing the 10mm auto cartridge concept. I was hooked and wanted one but never got a glimpse of one.
The Colt Delta Elite came out in mid to late 80s, and i got my first 10mm a year after they came out. Yes, I still have it. Plus, another one, ot two....
I eventually saw a gun smith boring out 10mm auto chambers to a 10mm magnum length on revolvers, of course. I bought a Ruger GP 101 in 10mm, the match champion, and quickly made arrangements to have it bored out. The only company I know of that loaded ammo for the 10mm mag was Doubletap Ammunition. I see they still list it but I haven't seen it in stock in a log time.
Nowadays, when I see a review or article comparing the 10mm auto to the .357 magnum, I feel it's a little slighted. I agree, the 10mm magnum is difficult to find ammo for unless you reload. The last time I looked, Doubletap was still selling it. I have someballistic data from Doubletap's website plus some from an online ballistics chart. Just for fun, I compared data from the 10mm mag to like weight. 357 mag data. I'll run through this real quick. 10mm 135gr 1900 fps 1080 energy / 357 125gr 1500 and 625. 10mm 155gr 1400 and 683 / 357 158gr 1250 and 538. 10mm 180gr 1150 and 529 / 357 180gr 1400 and 783. 10mm 200gr hardcast 1450 and 933 / 357 200gr 1200 and 640. Both are bringing the heat for sure. I have both. I like both. Still, the 10mm is my favorite handgun cartridge. The .40 S&W, 10mm auto, and the 10mm magnum. I think a more fair comparison would be .40 vs 38 special / 10mm auto vs 38 special + P+ / 10mm mag va .357 mag. And as far as the .357 maximum, uncle already !!
I do enjoy your channel and your content. Plus, you keep it ad free, thx. I ended up getting a RugerLC Carbune in, of course, 10mm auto, lol. Ruger got part of the LC claim right, it is Compact, but I wouldn't call it Light. Later Turkey.

Your channel deserves to be in the handful of best gun channels on U-tube! Thanks for another great video! You should try the Underwood .38 Special+P with ~150 grain SWC versus a section of 6x6 pressure treated pine like that used on Banana Ballistics out of an air-weight +P S&W snub-nosed revolver! Oh yeah, you might want to be ready for ~ the same level of recoil as a .357 Magnum out of that gun. I spoke with the people at Underwood and they essentially confirmed that they used the same
reasoning to choose the high muzzle energy lower pressure propellants as can be found in the Hodgdon Annual manuals (check highest ME versus lowest MAP for the various powders). Keep up the excellent work!

I shot a Ithaca 357 carbine lever action at some steel, slightly over 1/4”thick at 50 yards, with 158 grain buffalo bore. It blew right thru the metal plate. Then í compared from same distance and same target, hipoint 1095 10mm carbine, using 180grain buffalo bore. I’m sure I gained higher fps with the longer barrels.10mm didn’t penetrate metal plate,it wanted to,but didn’t. 357 mag still the king in my pistol calibers. So i love your videos and I'm mostly going to agree would you, I do have a few comments. I may also be biased so bear that in mind. I own multiple s&w 357s, 627 v-comp, model 60, 342 pd ( ouch) and a 686. I also own (2) 610s 4" and 6.5" and a 310 nightguard. I handload both cartridges. I am not telling anyone to do this but a 10mm can be loaded significantly hotter than spec if running in a revolver. With blue dot in my 6.5 " 610 I can get 800 ft/lbs without blowing primers. You have to push 357 very hard to hit that also. I wouldn't run them in any semi-auto but you cannot physically put enough powder in a 10mm case to hurt a 610. Again I am not telling anyone to try it unless they really know what they are doing. The biggest reason I choose my 610 is accuracy. The 6.5" 610 is widely regarded for it's accuracy. I have never found another revolver that can match a 610s 100 yd group including my 460. None of my 357s come close and my 627 is a great gun. If you do some looking around you will find a lot of guys who love the 610 accuracy. Thanks for the great videos

Sometimes by as nuch as 200 ft/lbs. And it's not far behind in bullet diameter either. The 357 uses .357 snd .358 diameter bullets, in essence it a 36 magnum. The only advantage the 10 has capacity.

I bring up reloading because generally, those who do seem to understand ballistics, pressures, and minimum/maximum capabilities better. I give this video 2 thumbs up!! I never got into 10mm, though it is a great cartridge. I have used handguns for hunting much of my life. The 357mag, 41mag 44mag, and 45LC have done well. I do not live in bear country so I do not need something for that. In semi-auto guns, I have 9mm, 45acp, and 22LR. I suppose it really comes down to what you want. If you like a wheel gun in 10mm, life is short, get one.

I was very tempted in a "Wiley Capp" GP100 as well as the late great Jeff Quinn commemorative GP100 Revolvers.
I dont agree that the 357 Trumps 10mm but also as you point out its (both actually) are under loaded. The 10mm as diameter and weight advantage. A .400 bullet @ 1200+ isn't a thing in a 357 Mag revolver. A 180 and 1200 ish is 357 Mag preformance. Handloaded longer bbls might exceed that but the 10mm is doing that in a sub 6". The 357 would need 8"

There is one very serious issue with the use of 10mm ammo in a revolver, bullet creep. Automatic ammo is taped crimped which is fine for automatics. The lack of a good roll crimp as used in revolver ammo the bullets can creep out enough to alter ballistics and accuracy and can tie the cylinder, not good and especially happens with hard cast high performance ammo typically used for dangerous game. Having a gun jam up solid before you can empty the cylinder say into a big bear isn’t my idea of fun. If you want 10mm plus performance in a revolver find a .41 mag.

.357 is, as far as I am concerned, the best pistol caliber ever invented.
One of the things I think about with revolvers using semi auto calibers, is the very possible crimp jump. The tapered crimp of an auto round is not as strong as the positive crimp into the cannelure of a revolver round, plus the recoil in a revolver is more complete without the slide/spring action of the auto soaking up a lot of it. I am not saying it WILL happen, but it CAN happen a lot easier than standard revolver loads. And if it does, your cylinder will not turn and you have a paper weight till you get it back to the shop and fix it.

I do not consider revolvers to have unquestioned reliability, but they are so perfect for rimmed cartridges.
It may be possible to fire a rimless round without the moon clip, but it’s possible to have been pushed forward, and the case stretched on firing, where revolvers are also so perfect for handloaders, unless the brass is damaged.
I’m tickled that it works for some people, but moon clip are just not for me, durn hard to find out in the field if dropped and far easier to damage than a mag. Too bad rimmed revolver cartridges seem to be fading out of favor, and getting pricey.

Not really sure why people get so attached to a name that they want to force it to work in platforms it's not designed for. Semi-autos have certain advantages over revolvers, one of them is NOT bullet versatility. They can only be so big because they have to fit into a mag and that mag can only be so big because it has to fit in your grip. No reason to add that limitation to a revolver that already has limitations of its own.

A lot of people probably won't agree with this but, .357" diameter bullets have better sectional density than .400" diameter. Will probably penetrate better than .400" bullets. A .357" 158 gr. has .177 sc, and a .400" 200gr. has .179 sc. I know a lot of people like big bullet diameter, so whatever floats your boat.

    @alecswann7234 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

My own view is that you are missing out. For the reasons of ammo cost, logistics, versatility, shootability and recoil.
Ammo cost: in my state online ordering is illegal. There is an effective 20% tax on all gun and ammo purchases. Thus the only way to keep shooting is through reloading. Even during shortages I can occasionally get large pistol primers, forget the small pistol primers. So keeping my brass is a no brainer. Win for the revolver. [Even with the Graco Brass Catcher I loose lots of brass].
Logistics: even the most expensive of the four moon clip providers for the 610: TK Customs at $8 a moon clip, is far cheaper than even a Glock 20 Mag. Let alone proprietary Sig, or Springfield or Smith mags. Magazines like moon clips are a consumable item. They will wear out, faster the more you shoot. Magazine lips spread, the tube cracks, etc. Besides TK Custom there is Smith of course, Ranch Products, and EZ Moonclips "RIMZ" which are polymer and very sturdy. Both Safariland and Simply Rugged make great moonclip / speedloader holders. They don't scream gun to most people.
Versatility: Unlike a 1911 (must balance recoil spring, firing pin spring, main hammer spring, and firing pin stop flat or round) or a Glock (must change recoil spring strengths) when you go from mild to wild, a revolver just works. You can carry mild self defense loads with hollow points, or more robust hard cast loads for animal defense, without lengthy and costly futzing around to determine the exact balance of set up that will run with that ammo.
Shootability: Semi autos are great on the one way flat range. As Daryll Bolke (well known trainer, Colt had him roll out the new Python Blued models for selected shooters) notes, police body cams are filled with video of shooter induced malfunctions which tracks with the late Paul Harrell's view that shooter induced malfunctions are much more common in auto loaders under stress. A 10mm revolver will function if held loosely, upside down, sideways, not an issue even if you slip on wet ground. The same can not be said for Autos in any caliber.
Gun Sam Revolver who I see posted here, has long noted that there is a big gap in revolver calibers. From the .357 you go to the rare and seldom seen .41 magnum, which is great but has nearly the recoil of the .44 magnum, to the latter. There is no in-between caliber of about .40 with a 200 grain bullet doing 1200 feet or so from the muzzle. But the 10mm will do that all day, very very comfortably in the N Frame 610, whereas that same frame in .44 Magnum is uncomfortable to shoot to the point where R. Lee Ermey declined to shoot a second cylinder in "Mail Call." And that is the biggest selling point -- that big N Frame is very easy to shoot with 10mm.
Obviously, your situation is different from mine but I think you would change your mind if you shot the 610 for a while.

Rimless Cartridges in a Revolver Just Suck!... The ENTIRE REASON the Daggone 10mm is Rimless is so it'll work in a Semi Automatic Platform!... The Hell with Screwing Around with Moon Clips!... They're nothing but a Big Pain In The Rear End!.... I'm sure that you are aware that Moon Clips came about out of Necessity during WW2 so that .45 Auto Cartridges could be Shot in The .45 Colt S&W and Colt Revolvers... That cut out a lot of Supply Chain Issues and Confusion... If I needed a Big, Powerful Semi Auto, I'd go right out and get a Glock 20 in 10mm... Definitely Not a Revolver in 10mm.... @SCH292 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Why I won't buy a 9mm revolver..even though I'm a 9mm guy.
    1. Bullet creep or sometimes call Bullet jumping. There's a chance that the other bullets might jump a little forward when shooting. That will be dangerous. Semi auto cartridges design are not like like revolver cartridges. If you're re-loader you'll know what I mean and will see the difference between a semi auto and a revolver bullet.
    2. Moon clips. They will bent, get damaged and you have to be more careful with them. They are also a pain in the ass to load and strip the rounds off. Again if you're not careful you might damage or bend that moon clip and if you want to avoid or reduce the damage you kind of have to consider getting another tool device.
    3. The point of a semi auto pistol is to have more rounds than a revolver. If you want to carry a small gun? Wouldn't make sense to carry a 38 special or a compact pistol like Shield? If you want a big revolver...well wouldn't it make sense to stick with .357 mag or something?
I know I know..There's that Pitbull 9mm revolver that doesn't need moon clip to reload. You carry a spare magazine like a Glock mag or whatever mag. You reload your Pitbull using that mag. Hold the cylinder open with your left hand, hold that spare loaded mag with your right hand and thumb the rounds into that cylinder.

I feel like the copious comparisons of energy and velocity create illusions in the non-shooting crowd, or those who shoot very little. Even from this comparison, and this is not a critique of the video, I agree 100% with the content, but someone's going to decide that 40S&W is more like 38 Special of the 40 bore world :)
I watch lots of these videos to learn, and I've caught myself thinking (or rather "feeling", to be more accurate) that one caliber or another is "anemic", when in reality it continues to be very effective, without the need to eclipse something else. 38 Special is one such round. I've even heard buddy hunters talk this way of 308 Winchester, just because it's not like 30-06, 270 Win or 6.5 Creedmoor. We're talking about people who never shoot past 200 yards, probably not even 100. It's our psychology, everything starts seeming inadequate when compared to something else.
In reality most of these things perform very well in their standard range, without the need to go to extremes. And when you do need "more", you go to that next/other caliber.
Some people make it sound like you can't defend against bears without 500S&W. How did our ancestors cope? :) Enjoy your videos, Turkey.
