Very informative. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have 9MM with same set up. I am going to remove my Magwell and use compact mag with extended baseplate.
I just got an XD-M compact in 10mm. It’s the first time I’ve shot 10mm. It’s a fun load to shoot, stout but Springfield (or the Croatians) makes it easier to handle with a really well designed pistol. It’s going to be one of my favorites for edc. I agree it’s a much better hold without the magwell.
Thanks for the video, I picked mine up yesterday under the Firstline program. Heck of a deal on them plus it comes with (3) mags and range bag. I decided that the mag well flair was the first thing to go your video fit the bill!
It's the only reason why I haven't purchased one yet, that magwell is awkward for my hand size. Thank you for showing it removed, been hoping to see it this way. Seems like the standard baseplate with magwell removed would be the way to go.
I just removed my magwell ( pretty easy). The extended mag is in place but only had the ( small #1) matching mag grip extension. My XDM game with two 9 round mags. I picked up a few used ones . The most confusing issue is match your mag sleeve extension to the back strap. I have large hands a d wanted to use the larger back strap but my mag sleeve is small #1. Really seems to confusing to match it up. I found one used mag with the Pierce style mag sleeve, works great in pistol ( 3.8 .45 OSP) . Love the extend grip and ability to go conceal by just changing mags!!!!! I have carried a Glock 30 S with Glock 21 mag as back up. Both pistols are capable of the same mag capacities due to the exceptence of larger magazines. Range bound today!!!
They need to come out with another magwell 1/4” longer for purchase. It wouldn’t be hard for them to do. Jeeze.. without it, its crap. With that magwell.. I haven’t seen anyone who’s hand fits it. Everyone could use another 1/4”
This is my new gun to carry while hiking here in east Tennessee. I carry my g20 some but mostly this because it can shoot hard cast without changing the barrel. Great gun.
This was actually informative. Nice job all the other reviews don’t really talk or actually show this. The magazine well is done that way so you really get the shortest grip for carry and concealment. If I remove it because it bothers me to I will just edc my Glock 20 2x4. Now I get to play with my back straps and red dot 🔴. Funny I never owned a red dot and I really don’t care to even put it on. This gun is like a figit spinner you can constantly tweak it for 700 bucks. It’s up there with my CZ 🍊 shadow 2 for fun even though two different animals. Smith and Wesson 10 mm turned me off with 7 plastic plates and different screw lengths and fair trigger compared to the shield. We have to support our Vodka drinking neighbors. Ha enjoy.

With Polished mags I guess they where thinking it would be even faster to reload with a mag well?? But this is a compact so it’s purpose is defense, so I’ll be taking the mag well off. Noticed that right away: makes a big difference, safety-wise, doesn't it? As long as he remembers not to rack the slide with ANY magazine in place (well, when he finally manages to get them to seat fully?) and NEVER actually pulls the trigger, he most likely won't shoot himself...? Very sad.
While on the 10mm may be different, on the 9mm you can use the +rounds base pads with the sleeve. In other words, you can try to install that +1 round plate on that 15 round mag with sleeve. On the 9mm you can use the 22 round mag with a sleeve and fits fine.
I know, right?? crazy power!! all i've been able to shoot so far it paper - need clay targets or something to really see how strong this thing is!! THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!!!
How did the 15rd extended magazine end up concealing? I just ordered this pistol and am curious. Just waiting to actually get it before ordering the extended magazine as I don't know which backstrap I will like. Thanks.
I had a QVO holster they were promoting heavily when gun first launched. Had exclusive print lane. Works really well. Here is a video I did on it back in the day…OH - THANKS FOR WATCHING!!! th-cam.com/video/DH2xRNGMRQo/w-d-xo.html
Will do!! Funny you say that - I have an extended mag on my HK45 and while it doesn’t “pinch” I do sense a slight bit of movement that bugs me. Does not impact performance of gun what so ever but just something unexpected I have noticed.
@What saith the scripture? have not experienced pinching of any kind. no slide bite of any kind. no movement/pinching w/ extended mag. so far very happy with it.
I got the gun 2 months ago but I didn't like the the size. I went out and got the 15 round magazine talon grips. I also put a 507 holson on it as well.
Do the sell the magazine extension/sleeve individually or do I have to drop 60 bucks for the mag too. I already have 15rd magazines is the reason I’m asking. Thanks.
the bottom of the magwell came slightly flared and the mags extended just beyond the bottom. I didn't love the flared part at bottom and it was removable so I took it off. feels much better with out the flared part for me. Good thing is it can be ran either way that feels best for the shooter. THAKNS FOR WATCHING!!
What size are your hands? I bought this gun for anti-bear repellent in early deer season. My Pinky can't even semi-hug around any of the mags in the flared magwell situation. In ordering the extended mag because if I can't garb the gun properly I don't want to shoot ut.
@@796andy2 I have a Romeo1 Pro on a P320 that is excellent. Also have a DeltaPoint Pro on my Masada that I like but I think I slightly favor the Romeo.
I wish one of these reviews would measure exactly how long the grip is from top to bottom, so I can compare that to my current XD-9, which fits in my hand perfectly. I cannot tell from the videos if the full size would be more comfortable than the compact with extended magazine. Not a single dealer in my area has either model in stock, so i can't feel it prior to purchasing.
The QVO holster that I bought when the series launched is a good choice. On most of my other guns though I really like Hidden Hybrid Holsters. Incredibly comfortable. Good retention. Thanks for watching my channel!!
so if i take off the magwell and put the 14 round magazine in there i will have room for my pinky sounds great. so you're saying it's better to buy the compact instead of buying the full size gun because i wanted both of them but you're saying it doesn't make sense to do both of them right
Probably not to buy both. I wound up selling the Compact about a year after this video. Just couldn’t get used to the grip. If I had it to do over I would probably go with a full size! Thanks so much for watching!!
Good review especially showing the flat base plate. They coukd have added that 1/2 making a 12rd mag as standard and I could get a good grip. Guess they wanted it with the short grip to conceal. I took the mag well off and kept those fatter base plates on. Seems the best we can do other than that huge 15rd mag.
I think I'm gonna try the pierce pinky extension for the xdm and see how it feels. For cc of course and extended mag for the woods. Just my opinion. ( I used the Pearce pinky extension on one of the first XDM 3.8" 45 acps that first came out several years ago and it felt amazing.)
You know I was just commenting on thr video I just got a xdm elite 45 3.8 and I got the pierce extension plus one grip,I couldn't get it to lock in after I swapped out the stock plates couldn't find any videos on install and it's my first springfield pistol, pierce emailed me back and said I had to remove that mag flar in order to get it to fit ,so I'm about to remove that dumb thing,it gets in the way of sturdy grip
If Springfield would offer the 10mm XDM Elite in a 4.5" barrel like they do with their 9mm XDM Elite the grip would be slightly longer and allow more room for larger hands.
They do sell full size 10mms with 4.5 and 5in barrels. They have the 15 round mag grip. This is their edc 10mm so it's going to be as small as a 10mm can get. I'm sure you can put a longer barrel in the compact for better velocity not sure if it'll help recoil
@@snoopywl8880 , You are correct. They do make a 10mm in 4.5" barrel, but in the XDM model, not in the 'XDM Elite' model. At this time they only have 10mm in the 3.8" barrel and 5.25" barrel in the XDM Elite. The 4.5" Elite is currently 9mm. I hope that changes and they start making it in 10mm.
@@wickedgarden9257 Yes, I saw a couple of weeks ago that Springfield had released the 4.5" 10mm in the Elite model. Very happy that they did. It's great to have choices !
So I have the 45 xdm elite 3.8 and the only issue and I have small hands is that my pinky falls off,so I bought the pierce grip plus one pinky extension, my mags or 10 rounders I didn't need a extra round ,just the extension, I put the pierce together and the dam mag would not lock into the reciever, so I emailed pierce and shot them some pics and they said I had ro remove thr mag flar in order to get it to fit ,duh, that stupid flar ,I have no idea why they put it on their at all its ugly and gets in the way of your pinky rapping around ,I could not find any videos of install of pierce grip on the xdm elite 45 3.8, then I watched your video and boom that mag flar came up again ,great video I'm following suite as well,
Why didn't you put the pin in the back strap with out the mag well the 15 round mags and 10 fit the extension on the 15 round the rubber covers and extends the grip
Does anyone know where I can get a magwell and base plate grips that perfectly fit just like the 3rd magazine in this video with the “xd” print on it. I have a Xdm Elite 4.5 Osp 10mm. I am trying to find a grip and magwell that fits perfectly to the gun and magazine !
I believe when you switched to the flat bottom option on the 10 round mag that you did not do it correctly. It looks as if you put the metal plate inside which I believe only works with the extension for the flared mag well. I had trouble at first when I switched mine as the instructions wasn't very clear on that until I figured it out. You will notice that the base plates are made different and that the spring actually catches on the flat base plate to hold it on as where the other uses the metal plate to catch and hold and allow for 1 more round. I think that's also why the flat bottom caught and wasn't flat when you had it in your gun. Hope that helps.
@@truthtalker7774 I have not tried to shoot it with the flat plate. Next time I get a chance to shoot I’ll see if I can (remember to) switch one out and try.
@@truthtalker7774 no, not yet. You didn't put the flat base plate attached to the bottom of the spring into the flat base plate, did you? I believe it is only used for the extension which goes with the flared mag well. If you did, it will catch in the pistol and not let the mag release correctly.
I noticed the same, I removed the part to get mine magazine with the flat bottom and as you said the metal part does not belong there. From my point of view it looks great and also is compatible with the 15 round magazine. The only downside of using the flat bottom magazine is that you lost one round, but I'm ok with that. It's less bulky and easier to conceal, and if you want more round you just change to the 15 round magazine and you are good to go.
Yes - ordered directly from Springfield. When I registered the weapon they sent a (one time)discount code. Got the extended mag and kydex holster they were promoting with launch (no longer on site last time I looked)
How and Why does your magwell come out so easily? I heard someone on a forum say that they even broke the plastic pin trying to get the magwell off. I bought a 15 round clip and they say you must remove the magwell but I tried and does not come off. I'm scared of breaking it like the guy in the forums. There has to be more to it than just push and pull away. There must be a pin or something that needs to be pressed or done to remove the magwell
No pin required to remove. It’s been so long since I removed (and don’t want to put back on!!) that I can’t remember the exact process. I do remember it wasn’t easy or straight forward but it did eventually pop right out with minimal force. Sorry I don’t remember rexactky the details - but do know for sure no pin to remove. THANK YOU so much for watching!!
@@TheArkansasGunGuy I got it now. Yes there is a pin on the side. That has to be punched out according to the manual instructions that I downloaded from Springfield. Thank God, I was scared of breaking it. The guy that broke his on that forum said that Springfield told him that because the guns were made in Croatia they did not have the spare parts he needed. But I got it out thank God with the plastic pin in tact. I wish I could send you a photo so that you can see that pin and where it is located. The punch out pin or roll out pin is located and hiding in the grooves of the backstrap lower left and right hand corners of it. Once I punched out that pin both the back strap and the magwell came out with super simple ease. I got the 15 round clip with the extention and that is REALLY the only reason that I had to take off the magwell. I love that magwell, but CANNOT use the 15 round clip with the magwell. Springfield should have thought of something better to do than that. But it does a really nice flush fit when you put in that 15 round clip in the gun. Feels bigger, but hey 15 plus 1 rounds of 10mm. I'm not gonna complain lol. Thanks for the heads up. Good video by the way! I subscribed by the way too.

I carry a g40 and it's a beast. I want a smaller 10. I love and also carry a xdm in 45 acp. The ergonomics and reliability is par none.but I'm not sure about this gun or a Glock. Decisions, decisions
Id eave the magwell off and use the short flushfitt mag for concealment when carrying then use the magextension eith tge 15 rouds that turn it into a full size grip that makes it look very comfortable to use that what id do bec it does look so much better with them extensions turning into a full size grip
I've since sold this gun, ,but if memory serves you can still keep the mag well with 15 rounder it just sticks our more and looks a little strange... I THINK that's the case - again, sorry I can't confirm - I traded it for an X-Ten. THANK YOU for watching!!
I been trying for hours and cant get the magwell off i bought it used and it doesnt have the pin in the back so the big one refuses to come out even with the back pin missing
Its a compact . They have the larger 10mm . So if you want more rounds or a bigger grip then get the full size . Otherwise a compact is exactly that a compact .
Looks like it wasn't thought out real well. These are imported from a manufacturer in Croatia so Springfield maybe didn't have much input on it. Ive been researching the XD pretty hard and I need to handle one before anything but the mag issue may be a hard pop ass.
I shot this without the magwell using standard magazines, immediately formed a blood blister on my pinky from being pinched between the mag and the grip. After a couple mags the blood blister popped and got blood all over my hand and the pistol.
I bought the Pearce Grip XD/XDM 45 ACP Extension Adds 0 part # RSR_PGXD45, from XDGUNParts and it fit my 10 mm XDM Elite 3.8 with no issues. Just remove the black base plate. I didnt like the one specifically made for the 10mm that adds a round. Trust me the XD 45 ACP one works fine😊
Dude that gun was hot ready to shoot, you pulled the slide back and then put a clip in. As you put your finger close to the trigger!!! What's up with that! Not safe at all!
I noticed that when you were loading the gun you were having problems! What was upon with that? and has anyone else had issues loading? I saw another video talking about this as being an issue with this gun.
I like your video but I was able to figure out how to get the mag well off with no torque applied to the parts. It inspired me to make my first video for TH-cam. If you want to email me, I can send you the video, since finding it may be difficult until it's approved.

@@TheArkansasGunGuy I appreciate it
Thats very helpful I was wondering how the different configurations would work
Thank you so much for watching!!
I got the gun 2 months ago but I didn't like the the size. I went out and got the 15 round magazine talon grips. I also put a 507 holson on it as well.
I’m still not in love w the grip. Love the trigger. Sights and other features - but man that grip…..
Thank you for watching!!!
@The Arkansas Gun Guy I got some talon grips pro and it fixed the problem for me.
Where can I find the grip that fits evenly with the Magwell
Do the sell the magazine extension/sleeve individually or do I have to drop 60 bucks for the mag too. I already have 15rd magazines is the reason I’m asking. Thanks.
I just checked their website and right now it looks like you gotta buy the whole magazine - about $48. ):
Thank you so much for watching!!!!
How do the mags come from the factory? Flush or flared? Thanks
the bottom of the magwell came slightly flared and the mags extended just beyond the bottom.
The second pin that’s holding the magwell in from the bottom does not go back in once you remove the magwell? Correct? Does not say in magwell
lovin mine ! 100 thru it , shoots great
have to wait till after Xmas for the dot ...

changing out to the flat base reduces the magazine down from 10 rds to 9 rds.
What is the point of a mag well, anyway?
I wish one of these reviews would measure exactly how long the grip is from top to bottom, so I can compare that to my current XD-9, which fits in my hand perfectly. I cannot tell from the videos if the full size would be more comfortable than the compact with extended magazine. Not a single dealer in my area has either model in stock, so i can't feel it prior to purchasing.
What holster do you prefer? Just got my xdm and looking for suggestions
The QVO holster that I bought when the series launched is a good choice. On most of my other guns though I really like Hidden Hybrid Holsters. Incredibly comfortable. Good retention.
Thanks for watching my channel!!
Does this firearm come with the flat mag plate to run 10rnd mags too?
it did come with flat plate. thank you for watching!!!
so if i take off the magwell and put the 14 round magazine in there i will have room for my pinky sounds great. so you're saying it's better to buy the compact instead of buying the full size gun because i wanted both of them but you're saying it doesn't make sense to do both of them right
Probably not to buy both. I wound up selling the Compact about a year after this video. Just couldn’t get used to the grip. If I had it to do over I would probably go with a full size! Thanks so much for watching!!
@@TheArkansasGunGuyi love the full size with the 4.5 barrel
Just bought the 15 number two. Better accuracy better grip all around
It would help with some recoil this gun pops! Full size would be idea.
I hope that changes and they start making it in 10mm.
fyi there is an xdm elite osp in 10mm with a 4.5" barrel out now...
@@wickedgarden9257 Yes, I saw a couple of weeks ago that Springfield had released the 4.5" 10mm in the Elite model. Very happy that they did. It's great to have choices !
Excellent video! ..Thanks
So I have the 45 xdm elite 3.8 and the only issue and I have small hands is that my pinky falls off,so I bought the pierce grip plus one pinky extension, my mags or 10 rounders I didn't need a extra round ,just the extension, I put the pierce together and the dam mag would not lock into the reciever, so I emailed pierce and shot them some pics and they said I had ro remove thr mag flar in order to get it to fit ,duh, that stupid flar ,I have no idea why they put it on their at all its ugly and gets in the way of your pinky rapping around ,I could not find any videos of install of pierce grip on the xdm elite 45 3.8, then I watched your video and boom that mag flar came up again ,great video I'm following suite as well,
Thank you for the review and tip. Great video.
Thank you so much for watching!!!
AWESOME call out. That makes total sense. Good catch.
THANK YOU for watching!!
Anyone having trouble with the mag ejecting with the flat base plate?
Did you order the extended mag through Springfield directly?
@@rickycastro3210 DUH - my bad - sorry sir!!! TOTALLY forgot about that. (it happens when you get old!). I'm glad you got it out. I just didn't love that flared bit at all. Have enjoyed the gun - hope you do do AND THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
I would just get the 15rd mag extension fits right up against it flush it's very nice and comfortable instead of the flared magwell the last 1 you put on I'd just order 4or5 of the 15round mag extension thats the ticket
Everyone I know that owns that weapon has transition to the extended magazine the 15 round one it just makes sense the gun feels better in your hand it's much more controllable
15 Magazine looks great and like it would feel good too
Just got my XD-M Elite 10mm and I love it. I installed a Holosun HS507C and looks and feel nice. Now I'm looking for a holster. What holster are you using?
What's up w the mags having to be slammed? Glock 26 and 30.....have to grip w pinkie under mag....
I carry a g40 and it's a beast. I want a smaller 10. I love and also carry a xdm in 45 acp. The ergonomics and reliability is par none.but I'm not sure about this gun or a Glock. Decisions, decisions
What size punch does this require?
Does anyone know what size grips are compatible for this? I can not find grips specific to this model. Thanks
Id eave the magwell off and use the short flushfitt mag for concealment when carrying then use the magextension eith tge 15 rouds that turn it into a full size grip that makes it look very comfortable to use that what id do bec it does look so much better with them extensions turning into a full size grip
Cann one keep the flared magazine well and still have a 15 round magazine. ? Thanks
I've since sold this gun, ,but if memory serves you can still keep the mag well with 15 rounder it just sticks our more and looks a little strange... I THINK that's the case - again, sorry I can't confirm - I traded it for an X-Ten. THANK YOU for watching!!
The reason your flat base mag is not ejecting off the grip easy is because you didn't remove the black metal plate that comes with the extended mags.
I been trying for hours and cant get the magwell off i bought it used and it doesnt have the pin in the back so the big one refuses to come out even with the back pin missing
That’s no bueno! Did it ever come out? I actually sold my gun or I would grab it and take a look. Thanks so much for watching!
@@TheArkansasGunGuy nvm i got it i didn’t realize the pin was see throug

Its a compact . They have the larger 10mm . So if you want more rounds or a bigger grip then get the full size . Otherwise a compact is exactly that a compact .
Looks like it wasn't thought out real well. These are imported from a manufacturer in Croatia so Springfield maybe didn't have much input on it. Ive been researching the XD pretty hard and I need to handle one before anything but the mag issue may be a hard pop ass.
That’s the only thing I don’t love about it. If grip were just a tad bit longer. Gun still shoots real nice…just needs a smidge more on the grip
AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!
Great video. I just got mine.
I hope you like it! Have had fun so far. Expensive (ammo) fun but fun none the less. THANK YOU for watching!!
I shot this without the magwell using standard magazines, immediately formed a blood blister on my pinky from being pinched between the mag and the grip. After a couple mags the blood blister popped and got blood all over my hand and the pistol.
This is a nice looking gun i want one with red dot
when u put the flush base plate on the bottom of the mag u have to take off the black metal mag extension plate off the spring..
Anyone have good owb holsters to recommend for this pistol??

If anyone is wondering, even with medium size hands, the compact with magwell grip is too short. Croatians must have tiny little hands.
right?!?!? crazy how that grip is just...off..... only knock i'v consistantly heard on the weapon. THANKS for watching!!!
