Steve, all the way from Los Angeles here, love the video, new subscriber. Just wanted to say love the humble attitude you present. Not too many fisherman who are genuine as you.
Awesome video with a few good tips that I took note of! I'm an avid catfisherman in North West Arkansas. My home town of Ozark Arkansas is nestled on the bank of the Arkansas River and if you ain't a fisherman around here, than you ain't a man at all. If you guys are ever over this way, give me a holler and I'll set you up in all the right spots. There's almost never a day that goes by out of the year that you don't see at least a couple of guys sitting in a boat or on the bank sharing tales of the ones that got away while watching some catfish poles.
Joe Cook Thanks a lot for the video Steve. It was one of the best I've seen lately. I love to fish and your video gave me a lot of ideas when I get back out there once the pollen settles down. Best wishes!!!!
Another great video as usual! Extremely informative! My kids and I get hyped watching your videos then go out and put it to work on the Tenn-Tom waterway in West Point, MS. We are learning and getting better every outing...thanks again!
Another great video Steve. I want to thank Chris Souder for the good tips with the Ky rig and smaller baits. I never would have thought about rigging that way. If we get another warm day, I will give it a try.
Good video. There were a lot of useful tips in this one. You guys caught more flatheads in this video than I caught all year! I mostly catch channels, fishing the dishpan lakes in my area, but I do get a lot of those over 10. Favorite bait is shad guts, usually catch my flatheads trolling crankbaits for walleye.
My cousin fished the King Kat tournament on the Ohio Last year as well ... Congrats to you Chris and the other anglers. I'm always looking for any tips or tricks to help better my fishing. Thanks for the info guys and best of luck this year in 2017 Will definitely be watching more videos Thanks again guys!!!
Thanks Steve for the opportunity to spend the day on the water with you. And want to say thank you to everyone that has taken a min to check out my TH-cam channel and subscribe to it. Hope the tips we shared in this video help everyone catch more flathead catfish.
that trigger affect is also called loading the line.as a trapper i use this same method for snares. been doing it for fishing for years to. you learn from one method to take to another.
Steve Douglas The Catfish Dude great video Steve and Chris. I'll have to try the Kentucky rig back here at home. Our local lake we frequently fish only has shad and it is always coming back with the guts sucked out. Thanks for putting 2 and 2 together for me.
Nice to see veteran fisherman on the water doing what they love. Guys I live down in North Carolina and our rivers are tidal here and makes for hard fishing, any suggestions for fishing in the middle of march on tidal rivers with the water temps around 45°? We also have had alot of rain which has caused rivers to be higher than usual.
I really enjoyed this video. In my adult years i have grown away from catfishin because as a little boy i did it as a chore. Rake the leaves, hang the clothes, and catch supper. I grew up on all sides of the gulf of mexico ....and poor. I spent 4 years in colorado and thats where i got introduced to trout, then 10 years in carolina and that was my 14 years in the army. Now i considered myself a pretty good catfisherman because on $1.50 worth of chicken livers i can go to any body of water that holds em and catch enough channell to set the table and thats all ive ever concerned myself with. I always figured flatheads and bullheads for a trash fish and never put thought into it for sport..... Here in the next couple months im gonna shift away from all the casting and reeling for walleye and bass and trout and crappie im gonna get to the maumee and the ohio river with some cut bait and im gonna fish for some monster flathead. Just got a couple questions im hoping you can help me with: When fishing flathead is there a relationship beween water depth and fish size? Alot of my favorite holes are near dams and the water isnt too deep. If im catching small flatheads should i stay put and wait for a big one or venture off in search of bigger fish? And thanks for the video fellas.. Anytime something brings me new excitement to fishing im a happy man
thanks Steve. And thank you Chris. for sharing your information. and congratulations on the Point leader Cabela's. well Steve I learned quite a bit from this video. Chris hooked real nice flat head soon as he tide on the Kentucky rig. you guys are catching good fish in the video and I am a subscriber to Chris's Channel. until next time have a nice Thanksgiving along with the rest of the holidays.
Thanks Jim winning the cabelas king Kat angler of the year was a great accomplishment for me this year and sharing information I've learned over the years is something I look forward to sharing with everyone as I grow. Thank you for watching and thank you for subscribing to my channel!
Another great video Steve !! I'm having trouble right now finding the fish on my home river with this low thirties weather!! Guess I'll be watching more TH-cam fishing videos lol. The other day I came across one of your first videos I could find of yours in the winter and you had crazy long hair!!
I really like that rig, I have used a similar setup for several type of fishing. I am a little confused by the brush comment, for some of the best Flathead fishing I have done, was under a underpass in about forty feet of water. Not huge Flatheads, but I was not going for the big boys. More around the 5 LBS range.
nice video steve your right about learning something new up here in ny all we have is channel cats but I have learned from you and the rest of the catfish family in just 2 years we have caught some monsters that would rivail the red river up I'm Manitoba thank you see you in feb
Steve douglas the old timers around here say to catch two blue gill and cut one in half rig the two cuts on one rod and the live bait on the other and thats how they get em.... thats pretty consistent woth the videos here. Theres a rumor in the bait shops that a fella just caght 100lb flat head in defiance ohio this way.... but ive not seen any evidence to confirm this... if its true its a new state record.
Hi Steve.I am in Northern Ky near Cincinnati.I recently found this TH-cam channel of yours and enjoy it alot. Perhaps one day we can meet on the river and fish.if not keep the great videos coming please. God bless....Gary Johnson
Has either of you guys tried the "Ugly Stick Catfish" rod? I tried one and went back and bought 3 more. I love them.. And I loaded them with the Shimano TRNG200G Triton Levelwinds, they're only like $70 and well worth it! And spooled them with 40lb. Big Game.. And I had to get 4 because that's my favorite number. lol.
Flatheads, most think they have to be caught on live bait, but they can infact be caught on dead fish. Here on the Wabash river goldeye is the catfish candy for flatheads. good tips and info yall did and steve months months back I see your face in a magazine in-fishermen as I was over looking it at the food store and I took pictures but never got them uploaded , as its going to upload later early spring so your info can get them wanting to hit the water in search of monster flatheads
He'll of a flat I'm trying to get out this December to catch a few b the first time fishing like u guys do I'm set up for it now I'm gonna b fishing by Ashland big sandy
Hi Steve. I live in Fairmont, WV and I fish the Monongahela river here most of the time. I also fish theTygart and West Fork rivers here too. I mainly fish for the flatheads. I have a question for you. What is a good net for flatheads that is not too expensive?
Steve Douglas The Catfish Dude your quite welcome sir. Up my here in South Western Pa on the Ohio river is a hotspot for flatheads as well from what i hear.
I caught one 50lbs on Guntersville, bass fishing, on a tube jig. It was like trying to reel in a volkswagon. Type in Guntersville cat on youtube. Nice vid guys.
Great video. Do you have any tips for targeting flatheads in lakes with not much current? The only flatheads I've caught have been on accident while fishing for blues.
Been using rigs similar to this for over 30 years in Saltwater. Only difference is that I use either 8 or 10 oz pyramid sinkers. We never called them slip sinkers, we called them fish finder rigs. Also we use the beads on 100 lb leader. The plastic “slip sinker” thing will not handle the stress and could literally kill someone with a pyramid sinker. We usually use 12 foot rods designed to handle 8 n bait all day long. Or 10 oz depending on the situation. A friend of mine that lives on one of the Islands I used to fish, witnessed one of those white slider things fail under heavy loading of the rod and it went completely through the radiator of a full size suburban and mashed up against the block. But the fish with the “broken tail” is actually genetic as well as I remember. Look on the TWRA web site and you can see pictures of bass with the same thing. And I think they said it was genetic.
Hey Steve you got any good tips for fishing for those big cats first of July, I'm not catching any at all, like to see u to come up to the big sandy river and help catch some these big flat heads up here
can't wait it's almost time just waiting for the mesquite trees to start blooming round here then I need some perch the size of my hand to go fishing for them river monsters
Thanks for another informative video. Had some good fish and looked fun for you two. How long after a front comes in does it take for the fish to bite again? I believe that here in Kentucky the cold is here to stay for a while.
So I'm really trying to figure out the flathead game. I was thinking I should be using live bait for flathead. What gives? Right now during the spring should I fish live bait around cover? should I wait no more than 1 hour per area of cover?
2 of the best teachers on TH-cam in one video. Good job guys and some great information. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Nice, I only ever catch em down here in NC on live bait. Only catching blues on cut bait
That is true, for the most part. I fish in the Yadkin river in forsyth county
What size swivels do you use?
What type of hook do you recommend for blues and flat heads?
I use a 5 or 6 inch bluegill and put a few slices in it's side and trim it's tail fin so it can only bob around, and i catch some monster catfish..
I caught one 50lbs on Guntersville, bass fishing, on a tube jig. It was like trying to reel in a volkswagon. Type in Guntersville cat on youtube. Nice vid guys.

Do you need to let flat heads blow off / decompress like you do with blue's?
most fish do if caught in deep water.
So I'm really trying to figure out the flathead game. I was thinking I should be using live bait for flathead. What gives?
Right now during the spring should I fish live bait around cover? should I wait no more than 1 hour per area of cover?
