Hi - great channel! I’ve been bank fishing flatties most of my adult life and recently got a boat. This opened up a whole new world for me. I primarily fish the PA schuylkill river. Any tips on rigs? What is your setup for throwing from a boat?
I keep it simple and throw either carolina rigs or 3-way rigs. Sometimes, if the river flow is down, I'll throw on a peg float to keep the bait elevated... Congrats on the boat, and thanks for checking out the channel!
Two on at once! You are the king of anglers! What a great video. Hell, I can't keep the turtles off of my bait long enough to catch a decent flathead. Is it the Santee Cooper rig? Any that I rig with Sunfish end up dead without a tail when I check bait.
Once again. A great video. Thanks for the tips and tricks. I'll literally rewind and watch things over to pick things up that you're doing. Wishing you continued success!
Great video bro ..I like that you showcased the lite bit that big fish will hit very easily at times..and I could tell you were digging them out of the mudd ..awesome slow bite action..also i can share a tip with on circle hooks hook the shad through the belly if gives you the most hook hanging out..and also the belly is really tough so little fish won't pull your bait ..Tight lines and always Hook'em Deep
Great tips! Ohio River? How are you able to use 8 rods? In Pa here we're only allowed 3....can you buy a license to be able to use more rods? Im waiting for my 1st Flathead of the year still & you're pulling doubles by yourself! Lmao. My time will come the rain messed up my river trip this weekend so hopefully holds off for next weekend. Do you ever use those demon dragons or other forms of rattles for Flatheads?Btw are those Fishbite rod holders? I've got their t-bars and rod holders and love em so far!
Yes, ohio river. I typically fish pa water bit this was in WV waters. You can run unlimited rods with a wv license. Thanks for watching and keep putting your time in on the water
I dont do charters but could set you up with a buddy who could definitely put you on some nice flatheads in the West Virginia stretch of the Ohio River. Just let me know and I'll get you his info. Thanks for checking out the channel, I appreciate you watching!
Consistently catching flatheads is way tougher from the bank. I used to mainly fish feeding areas like creek mouths and flats and i also did good fishing current seams. It can be done but also very frustrating at times.
I'd love to fish the Mississippi River, definitely a bucket list river for me...Early spring and late fall around here on the Ohio River I mainly target "feeding grounds" and ledges
If you're looking for a guided trip, I don't do that but I can set you up with a buddy who does and will definitely put you on some flatheads. Just let me know. Thanks for watching!
Yeah when you use 8 f'n rods! Wtf!! 2 is the legal limit in my state. This is ridiculous. Might as well put out hoop nets. I should give it a dislike. But I have to say the 1 saving grace here, is exactly what I just started doing recently, use a sling or a net!! Nothing worse than these guys dropping 40lb fish on their heads. Might as well hit with a baseball bat before you release them. Also I've been hooking my baits deeper. Will not go as deep, was just talking about this on catfish1 forums
Flatheads are great to eat the big fish aren't any different in taste than the smaller ones. I don't eat blue cats but if I can't get my freezer full of channel cats I'll make it up in flatheads
Awesome footage AND PROOF that Flatties will eat cut bait, keep up the Great Work.
Thanks for watching!! Cut bait is definitely my go-to on the river
Flatheads are fun! Great video! Well done man!
Thanks for watching!!
Atta boy, Joe! Great video!
Thanks brother!

I keep it simple and run a 3-way or Carolina rig majority of the time. Thanks for watching!!
Killing it bro proud of you man keep up the great work representing the Burg

Thanks buddy!

Thanks for watching buddy. And your right, hooking through the belly is a great way to do it, as long as they're not smaller shad
Good video bud
Keep em coming
Thanks for watching!
Nice Job Captain SoLo

I typically don't use rattles. Only time I will is when we have little to no current, just to keep my bait up off the bottom
@@hammer-downcatfishingwithj7223 thanks man i did not know that! Anything to help increase my chances. Awesome channel brother!
No problem at all, thanks again. New videos will be uploaded every Thursday.
What state are you fishing? It seems in Mo i cant catch flathead unless its live bait. This is awesome to watch. Good stuff
I fish in PA and WV. Thanks for checking out the channel
Great videos. Do you do charters on the ohio, and if so what area. I saw an awesome video you did on the ohio, how I found your channel
I dont do charters but could set you up with a buddy who could definitely put you on some nice flatheads in the West Virginia stretch of the Ohio River. Just let me know and I'll get you his info. Thanks for checking out the channel, I appreciate you watching!
@@hammer-downcatfishingwithj7223 I may do that. I am in the east cincinnati area, on 52, so don't think that would be too far from me.
Smoked them 🦾 awesome video. Finicky fish definitely make you stronger, work harder and a real learning experience in cool water
Thanks!
you use circkles or octopushooks for flatheads
I use circle hooks. Mainly Maruto 8/0
New sub here. Putting in the work.
Thanks for watching!
Heck yea buddy. Tips and tips nice video.
Thanks Brother
I am going to have to come up that way and fish,I have a brother in-law that lives Pittsburgh..
Some nice fish..
You definitely should, some pretty good flathead fishing up here.
Thanks for watching!!
Great information!
Thanks dear!
My question is, how do you do it from the bank, without any electronics? Can it be done from the bank?
Consistently catching flatheads is way tougher from the bank. I used to mainly fish feeding areas like creek mouths and flats and i also did good fishing current seams. It can be done but also very frustrating at times.
Look for areas with snags flat heads are generally ambush predators I try to find broken branches or big rocks that hold bait fish and can hide them
Good stuff right there joe👍
Thanks buddy. I appreciate you watching
@@hammer-downcatfishingwithj7223 reminds me of fishing in the Mississippi during the early prespawn even though its the opposite side of winter
I'd love to fish the Mississippi River, definitely a bucket list river for me...Early spring and late fall around here on the Ohio River I mainly target "feeding grounds" and ledges
@@hammer-downcatfishingwithj7223 nice

@@elgranfarmer7813 Big Cat Fever medium/heavy action
What boat do you have?
2018 G3 Sportsman 200

Hey is that my rod in the Bravo 1 spot
Yes sir! Good eye buddy. (Drag was super loose by the way, might want to tighten that sucker up)
Great video, I’m headed out to the garage to check that drag now….
Smart man! Let me know how it is...
You were right, way loose. Good lookin out! Great tip!
No problem. Stick around for more TIPS!
What reels are you using?
I use Penn Fathom 20 level winds
only allowed to use 3 rods here.
3 per person in PA, where I'm from. I fish in WV waters a lot and it's unlimited rods
Nice 👌
Thanks for watching!

Only time My people would fish. It was for Food . That 38 pound cat would make a few meals .

Whats wrong with using 8 rods if it's legal? It's all about the scent trail
I have not tasted a flathead catfish before🤔😋
I hear they're delicious. However, I don't eat fish. I just like to catch them, 😆
