Her name is Su. Her buddies are Moa and Yui. They are backstage rehydrating and resting. They will come out out and do a duet while Su takes a break. They go at 110% for about an hour and a half. You'll see on your trip down the FoxHole. See you on the Road to Japan.

If you're strict about genres, Babymetal is an experimental metal group. They combine metal riffs + jpop vocals + select sounds. For example they go prog metal (tales of the destinies) to metallica homage (babymetal death) to pirate metal (oh majinai) to flamenco (night night burn) to ska (yava!). For this song, they go the haunting sound as the title song implies (rondo of nightmare). If you want the quintessential babymetal sound, it is Babymetal - Megitsune! Good luck exploring the group.

Babymetal's sound did not change with the death of Mikio Fujioka, as they were already planning on changing their sound and theme before his tragic death.

In most songs they have two girls doing backing vocals and choreography with Su-metal. One of the girls has since left, leaving just Su-metal and Moametal. This song just features Su-metal with the band.

This is part of Su-Metal solo when Yui and Moa take a rest. You'll understand why they're called "BABYMETAL" when you see two other girls. You can check "BABYMETAL - Road Of Resistance live in japan" for all member on stage, or you can check "BABYMETAL - Onedari Daisakusen live Budokan Black Night" for Yui and Moa duo part (called BLACKBABYMETAL) . Enjoy 🤘.

I have no doubt Su has the potential to be on Floor's level someday. Her voice is still developing even in her early 20s. In fact, it could be said that if she were to train to perform operatic vocals she would indeed hold her own with Floor. Those Bollywood style micro-tonals she did in Shanti Shanti Shanti were no small feat to learn.

Excellent first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy - and of course I watched to the end, if you are going to take the time to try and find stuff out and then include intelligent comments about what you're hearing I'm going to watch and listen all the way through ... besides which its BABYMETAL and you can't make a video too long to watch all of it if it is about them.
Having watched all the way to the end my request is for 'Megitsune' - it is the one song that comes closest to showing everything they are about (and even then it only shows a small proportion of all the things BABYMETAL are capable of - and all the things they do), but well done your patrons for suggesting this performance for your first exposure and reaction.
Some of the details you read up on before listening weren't entirely correct, but it was close enough for now. I'm sure we can expand on that and provide better and more accurate details as you go along.
For the first two years from late 2010 BABYMETAL really did perform with all the instrumentals pre-recorded on a backing track - the Kami Band made their first appearance in October 2012 and for the next year and a bit they only played the encores in a few shows plus supporting the girls in a couple of festival appearances and they did a short series of shows in May 2013. They only became the full time support band at these two shows at the Budokan in March 2014 - and the same core members have been with them ever since.
The Kami Band only play live shows. We only know of one of them (Leda Cygnus with the blue guitar here) being involved in any of the studio recordings and he also wrote the guitar arrangements for their song 'No Rain, No Rainbow' (another Su-metal solo, but that one is a power ballad).
Funny you should mention Ozzy Osbourne talking about playing the Budokan - he was there to see this show. The Budokan is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics (which explains why it is in the round) and is now also a very prestigious venue for concerts (think along the same sort of reputation and a place people aspire to play as Madison Square Garden). BABYMETAL are the youngest average age female band ever to headline there - Su was 16 and a couple of months old, Yui and Moa were both 14.

    Translated lyrics:
The waning moon has lit up
the insanity rampant in the shade.
    The laughter resounds around.
It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam.
    I can't escape from it.
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind.
A nightmare rondo is being repeated.
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight.
I can do nothing but run
    through the darkness.
In the woods, in the fountain,
I hide myself holding my breath,
but it's still coming closer to me.
A stagnant voice. An endless night.
    Ah...
If I can no longer get out of here,
won't you show me your figure?
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind.
A nightmare rondo is being repeated.
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight.
I can do nothing but fall
    into the darkness.

Fun reaction! Your facts in the beginning are not entirely correct, for example you said the sound of Babymetal changed after Mikio Fujioka (Rest in Peace) died but that's not really true because the KamiBand doesn't do any of the songwriting or studio recording. Fans love the Kamis, they are absolutely incredible musicians but I have to disagree with you saying it wouldn't have worked without a real band because Babymetal started out with a backing track and fake band. This was a Su-Metal solo song that's why you don't see the other two. I agree that singing and dancing on the platform is pretty impressive. What if I told you that there is a song at this very show where all three girls are on that thing (platform is slightly lower though). I think your next Babymetal song should be "Road of Resistance live in Japan". The video might get blocked though, try putting your logo over the video to avoid the copyright block, it worked for other reactors. Have fun!🦊🤘

Sorry for the late reaction, but I have to take the side that Babymetal wouldn't have "worked" without the band. Sure they started out with just a backing track and fake band members, but without the real band, I highly doubt they would have been accepted into the worldwide metal scene as they have been now. Just Imagine Sonisphere 2014 with a backing track and fake band... I'm pretty sure that things would have gone very different.

The singer that you just witnessed is Suzuka Nakamoto aka Su Metal. She has been a professional performer since she was 8. So, yeah, this is just another Tuesday for her. She was only 16 at this concert. Now she's going up to 23 this December.
Su Metal was named as Rock Goddess back in 2018 by metal fans around the world. The pigtail girls are the other two girls, Moa Metal and Yui Metal. They and the Kami Band were all originally built around this young lady here. Babymetal was solely created for her.
Babymetal is different than our usual metal band. They are their own subgenre which is Kawaii Metal. Cute Metal in English. They might sound J- poppish in a few songs but the instrumentals and the Kami Band provided the metal legitimacy. Despite being named Babymetal, they have one of the hardest riffs in mainstream metal.
Rondo Of Nightmare is a solo song for Su Metal. Babymetal usually have three separate acts. All three of them together as Babymetal, Moa and Yui as duo called Black Babymetal and Su Metal solo.
The next Babymetal song you should react is
    BABYMETAL - MEGITSUNE (MV)
It is the perfect introduction song for Babymetal from their genre, sound, lore, culture. Everything you need to know about Babymetal in general is all there.

An interesting start to Babymetal. Su 17 is singing solo about a never ending nightmare, the other 2 girls have a break. Most start with Gimme Chocolate which has the wtf written all over it. Karate and Megitsune are excellent MV. You mentioned Babymetal Death which was performed at the beginning of their shows and a finale at Legend 1997 which was when the lead singer Su was born, the other two girls are Yui and Moa who are scream and dance, crowd interaction is a major factor at their concerts. Babymetal is best watched live though Amuse will be tough on copyrights. They started 10 yrs ago and just celebrated their 10th year this November, with 3 albums, over 50 songs, have appeared with Metallica, RHCP, Guns and Roses, Korn, Slipknot and others. Won multiple awards for their live performances and voted 10th out of the top 50 metal bands. The musicians are called the Kami Band (gods of music) and are some of the best Japan has to offer. Every song is different and different music genres from Viking metal, Nu metal, Death metal, some classical and Rap! The musicians are Takayoshi Ohmura guitar, Mikio Fujoka guitar, BOH bass and Leda Cygnus guitar sometimes and Aoyana Hideki drums, other musicians have appeared when world tours which I think have been 4, Europe the US and Asia.

The Kami bad typically wears traditional Japanese funeral robes and face paint (as they are here), which is why they look like the girl in the Grudge or the Ring. They are a rotating group of session musicians, not really a jam band. More like a Supergroup, because the members all have their own projects and bands as well. PS: they are also all world-class musicians.

Also, although BabyMetal is absolutely amazing live, the festival gigs are nothing at all compared to their concert tours. So one could argue that you're about to see BabyMetal at their most mediocre. But at least you will get a glimpse of Mikio! He's to the left of BOH, the bald bass player. Not that this particular song gives him very much to do though :-)

Great reaction and review! I wouldn't say the death of Mikio changed the dynamic of Babymetal. I'm sure it had a huge impact but the loss of one of the 3 girls had a much bigger impact. She left for health reasons. The largest impact on their sound however is the simple fact that the girls grew up and wanted a more mature presentation. You will know what I mean especially if you watch Doki Doki Morning, their first song, vs Arkadia which is from 2019.
For my suggested next song, Road of resistance would be my choice. It was partially written by Dragon Force so the band goes pretty crazy and the girls show off how they can wrap a crowd of 22K around their little fingers. Oh yeah, I did watch to the end but forgot to say I watched to the end. :)

A bit more about the Kami band. Yes they are session musicians. However, they do rotate out members every so often, due to scheduling. The core band is mainly the following:
Guitar: Takayoshi Ohmura. He's the one playing the gold guitar here. He was a student of Mikio Fujioka (RIP, more on him in a moment), and a protege of one Marty Friedman of Megadeth. Marty moved to Japan and is HUGE there.
Guitar: Leda Cygnus. He is playing the blue ESP guitar here. He's been in a few bands in Japan.
Guitar: Mikio Fujioka (RIP). He was Ohmura's teacher and mentor. He actually fell off of a platform at an observatory while stargazing (his favorite hobby). His wife and children were with him at that time. Mikio's wife gave Ohmura Mikio's guitar (big story behind that), in which Ohmura stated that whenever he is playing with Babymetal, that guitar will always be there, so it is as if Mikio is playing at that show as well.
Bass: BOH. Forget who you think the best bassist is, this guy smokes them.
Drums: Hideki Aoyama. One of the very few people you can call a human metronome, his drumming is that good.
Guitar: ISAO. He came in to fill in for Mikio after he died. Great guitarist.
For this performance, Leda and Ohmura are the guitarists. If you want to see the Kami band on their own, react to a song called "The Hills of Wisteria". That's an amazing piece.
During their last tour, they all were not available for the bulk of the tour, so a new group came in, dubbed the "Kamis of the West", that were made up of musicians from the bands Galactic Empire and Polyphia.
Finally, regarding Dragonforce. It isn't that the band were friends with Dragonforce per se (because they are). Dragonforce actually wrote Road of Resistance with Babymetal and played on the studio track for it.
The lore for the Kami band is that they are chosen by the Fox God to assist Babymetal on their journey throughout the Metal Galaxy. But as Only The Fox God Knows, anyone of us could be chosen at any time to be Kami. With that said, those who play with Babymetal are Kamis, including those they have collaborated with or played live with. That makes the following people Kami:
    Rob Halford (Judas Priest)
Chad Hamilton (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
    Rob Zombie
    Metallica
    Polyphia
    Bring Me The Horizon
    Dragonforce
    Alyssa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy)
    Joakim Broden (Sabaton)
Babymetal definitely is no gimmick, and anyone that tells you otherwise doesn't know how deep they bat.

It wasn't the loss of the Mikio that caused the big change, it was losing one of the original singers at the end of 2017 (she missed the entire 2018 world tour and left the band due to health reasons in Nov 2018). There is a sub unit known as Black Babymetal where the two backup singers performed with out the lead singer, Su-Metal. Those songs and their original intro song are no longer performed live and in the latest album they basically just focused on Su and relegated Moa to just dance.

I watched right until the end and because I watched until the end your next song should be Road of Resistance (Live in Japan 2015).
In a few of your reactions you mention liking when the singer engages the audience. In this one Su does it at least twice. The first one is (to me) just pure epic showmanship, the other one shows professionalism in getting the audience back on track.

This reaction is a day old so no one will probably read this, also I'm not going to read 200 comments to see if anyone has already pointed this out, but I'll say what I have to say anyway.
Although this video forces the viewer to focus on the fact that the musicianship of the band is no joke, it also ignores the full scope of what BABYMETAL is. I definitely think this is not the best choice as an introduction to them, but at the same time I'm not sure what a "best" choice would be.
I guess you simply have to watch multiple videos before you really "get" what it is all about.

For old school metal, this song is perfect. Other song that may also be interesting may include HEADBANGER, STARLIGHT, or DISTORTION.
Newer metal fans (metalcore / nu-metal) will connect well to numbers like KINGSLAYER, BxMxC, or ONEDARI DAISAKUSEN.
For something somewhat sounded similar to Band Maid, try SYNCOPATION.
The Kami Band has instrumental intros in the following songs when performed live: YAVA, AWADAMA FEVER, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, and KAGEROU. They also have an instrumental song of their own titled HILL OF WISTERIA.

They used to be 3「Su (main vocalist) & Moa & Yui (backing vocals, dance and pump up the crowd)」, but now they are 2, Yui left the group for health reasons. Some songs you have the 3 girls, some others 2, and some others just 1 girl.
I watched all the way to the end and, because I watched all the way to the end, the next Babymetal you should do is: Road of Resistance (live in Japan)

  • @aamiw99
    @aamiw99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Wow! I haven't even started the reaction, but damn Google has so many things wrong. Either that or you misunderstood some of it 😅. Firstly, Babymetal is technically just the 3 girls: Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto), Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi). They're actually 2 now cause Yui left 2 years ago for undisclosed health reasons (Edit: Rondo of Nightmare is a SU-METAL SOLO). Kami Band play for them live, but don't write the music. The exception is in a few songs where the Kami Band guitarist Leda Cygnus (used blue guitar in this vid) did the guitar arrangement. Mikio Fujioka died in 2018 from an accident while stargazing. He fell from an observation deck, not a bridge. The album they released in 2019 was very different, but that has no ties to Mikio's death. It's more so because the group was experimenting a lot with music from different cultures and whatnot.
I also kinda disagree with the patreon member you talked to. I think appreciating the band is automatic if you're a metalhead or can appreciate metal. It's harder to appreciate what the girls do since it's so foreign to you. It's easy to assume that the girls were just placed in front of a top-tier band without thinking about how hard the girls have to work to be able to sing and dance in every song live, sometimes for over 90 minutes. That assumption would also be wrong because, as I said, the girls came first and the band was placed behind them. Anyway, let me go back to the reaction. I assume the other comments have already spoken about the song so I'll leave it there 🙂👍
Oh yeah, and you should check out the official video for 'Megitsune' next. It's about as good a representation of Babymetal as you can get, and a lot of fans consider it their favourite song. It's heavy, cute, has a traditional Japanese touch to it...you can't go wrong with Megitsune.
(I watched all the way to the end. Because I watched all the way til the end, check out Megitsune)

  • @yolandria

One thing you will find out as you fall down the Foxhole is that Babymetal is the epitome of "Performance troupe." That's where they really shine. Babymetal is made up of several groups that all act as one, with the goal of putting out the best live show they can. You have "Babymetal" itself which is currently Su-Metal,Moa-Metal. With a third girl who was forced to leave due to medical reasons. (Yui-Metal). Through trial and error they have come up with a rotating cast of girls to fill in for Yui. They are known as "The Avengers". The band as you have figured out are called the "Kami Band." Due to touring requirements they decided to bring in a second live band to help on world tours. The second band covers NA/EU tour dates while the original band covers Japan and Asia. The stage crew has done some of the best stage sets I have ever seen. (Legend S will just blow your mind.) The girls have one of THE best dance teachers that's currently avail. And as you explore more you will find their choreo is perfect/amazing. Now as far as music goes. Babymetal is not a single defining genre. They are a combo of every kind of metal you can think of/find + the cute J-Pop/Idol scene. In fact they have their own genre (Kawaii-Metal). Not two songs are a like. They currently have 3 Studio albums + several ep's. So their catalogue is quite deep considering they have only been around for 10 years. And if you made it this far in my book...You can never go wrong with the following songs. "Syncopation, Distortion,Road of Resistance, Megitsune, Headbanger Live 1997. And for a few just pure fun songs. " Catch Me if You Can (With Kami Solo). Adawana Fever (With Kami Solo), And a touch of Black Babymetal with "Sis Anger" And a look at their early days I suggest "Iine (Pronounced Ee-nay, double ii at the front of the title.) If you get through all that your a champ!

"Kami" means god in Japanese, and these guys are like gods of music and are Japan's best musicians. They are wearing burial gowns and corpse face paint because in the BABYMETAL lore/storyline, the "Fox God" raises the musicians from the dead and calls upon them to play the music for the girls for each concert. The 3 girls have been chosen by the "Fox God" to unite the world through metal.

The Kamis are amazing and for me it’s mostly because because despite being so talented they bought in completely to the BABYMETAL concept which often places them in the background. I watched the video all,the way to the end. I think I would have said this anyway... great analysis. I recommend reacting to Ijime,Dame,Zettai from Sonisphere 2014. "If you don't see the band, Babymetal might seem a bit gimmicky". If you'd ask Japanese fans, I'd say 90 - 95% of them will tell you the band is the only thing that could be considered a gimmick.
Nothing in BABYMETAL changes because of the Kami Band. They're only the backing band and not even officially part of BABYMETAL. They also don't record their songs (except for Leda, the guitarist with the first solo in this video here, who plays bass and guitar on 5 of their over 50 songs).
Last thing: This was the last show they didn't put safety railings around everything that's higher than the stage itself. The night before this concert here, which was called Red Night, one of the three girls, Yui, fell from the edge of the stage during the crowd interaction part of Headbanger. Most of the railings around the outer part of the stage were installed "over night" for this show here.

That was a great reaction, Rondo at Budokan is one of the best performances I've seen ever, 7 minutes of crazyness.
About the danger of being in the platform, I'll add something. Black Night at Budokan was the second of a set of two concerts, the first was Red Night just the night before. And during Headbanger at Red Night one of the other girls, Yui, had fallen from the stage (2,5m-3m) in the mid of the song due to the stage not having security measures. So, next day Su had to do this performance, up there, no security. And she pulled it fearless, with 16 years she was then.
Su-metal was trained since she was a children as an actress, not a singer, for that reason she puts a lot of effort on interpreting the songs when performing them. And she makes the songs have a character with her performances. In Rondo, you can clearly feel the vulnerability of her up there, as the song is about a girl trying to flee from an unknown creature in a nightmarish dreamscape.
