So I wanna clear something up... I think a lot of people are confusing the term "tracks" with "lip-syncing". When I say "there are a lot of vocal tracks", I'm not saying Su-Metal is lip-syncing. She has a great voice and is clearly a talented singer, but most touring bands use vocal tracks to beef up the sound and to make it sound better in a live setting. It's not cheating. It's not fake. And it's not an exclusive thing to BabyMetal. TONS of bands do this on tour nowadays, and I've seen it with my own eyes on tour MANY times. TL;DR The term "tracks" does not mean "lip syncing".
People like to defend the bands they love, so I get it. But I think the terminology got mixed up and people thought I was saying she was lip syncing this performance.
@@TankTheTech Oh yeah I'm the first to correct any wrong assumption and misconception about Babymetal, but you're right it's easy to misunderstand a terminology when you're not familiar with it and I think your comment here makes things a lot clearer for people, hopefully ahah
You were right and Babymetal fans are very well aware that backing tracks are used and have Always been used in support of their live shows. Likewise, they use 'click tracks' in their ear pieces for coordination between the girls and the band and the drummer also has a visual metronome displayed on his setlist screen to assist with the timing. Its critical for everyone to be on beat and on time especially when using backing tracks as they won't wait if you miss a note or beat. It is arguably the "Standard" for any live production in music theater today. Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
Great reaction again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。The 3 girls once said "We feel we have been protected all the time by Kami band" and Kamis said "The girls took us to stages in the world, outside of Japan. We have nothing but gratitude towards them". This is the ideal relations between talented front performers and super supporting musicians, isn't it ?
After 10 years... BabyMetal & Kami Band are synonymous with each other. That goes with the new western members of the Kami Band. The One loves the Kamis just as much. No egos among all parties as they continue bring such amazing musical artistry. RIP Mikio 🌟 #notacult
@@TheBongReyes Yeah! The relation between the girls and Kamis (East & West) makes us happy. In a recent hilarious TH-cam program by BOH and Ohmura on April 17, right after the 10 shows, they said "I love the 'two persons' very much" (BOH) and "The 'two persons' are the best, so are we" (Ohmura). Ohmura even mimicked choreo of GJ! shortly (3-3-7 hand clapping). In Anthony Barone's Instagram, we can see photos of him taken at Red Square in Russia and Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. I feel grateful to see West Kamis are also happy working with Team BABYMETAL. When I saw 2 Kami Bands on the same stage together with 5 girls in RoR at Makuhari Day-1 show I was about to die for joy.
The amazing thing about the Kami Band is they have been with Babymetal since 2012. Appearing with 3 little girls could have destroyed their reputations. They obviously saw their professionalism and commitment at such an early age 14yrs and 15yrs old.
You know there were a couple of guys who said no way to being in the backing band for three teenage pop singers dancing around on stage to metal music Biggest career mistake ever
The irony here is that it actually HELPED their reputation. I don't think they would have that big a following on social media if they hadn't been with BABYMETAL to begin with. It's all a mutual virtuous circle between great talents (the girls, the band)
I don't think we would know of the Kami Band if it weren't for the three girls up front. They wanted to be rock stars and combined they all are rock stars!
@@RoosterIB Unfortunately, this is pretty common with the metal scene in Japan, and probably a lot of other places too. They have just as many absolutely amazing musicians as anywhere else, but like anywhere else, it can be hard to "break out" globally. Unless you were already into the Japanese metal scene, the vast majority of people would have no idea who these guys are. Babymetal in general really put all the members out there for the global audience. It's been amazing.
In this video, Su is 16 years old performing at the world famous Budokan, where you have to be invited to perform there. She has such a commanding presence that you forget that she is a tiny girl on that stage, at just 5 feet,1inch (155cm) tall. She may look like a tiny mortal, but she is a metal goddess. Another great reaction! Thank you! 🦊🤘
You have to be invited? That's wild. To me, that clearly means a band performing is either big, or getting big. I know Dir En Grey and Baby Metal have performed there. Band-Maid is performing there in March. Stoked for that one.
@@War624 Once I looked up Tokyo Budokan. Concerts are indeed invitation only. It was built for the '64 Tokyo Olympics for Judo and other martial arts, the first concert was in '65, some "no name, almost irrelevant" band called The Beatles. 😊
No way! Congratulations, man! Such a great feeling. I've been married for almost 6 years now and being able to share your life with someone is one of the best things over! I wish you guys all the best!
This song Rondo of Nightmare, is one of the heavier songs that Babymetal has, both musically and lyrically. Lyrically, it's about fighting depression, and how its like a never ending nightmare some times. Every concert, the band has a solo that they do, to give the performers a break. It's usually before a fast song with a more complicated rhythm.
Interesting interpretation that you added depression, first I've seen of that. Usually people take the lyrics pretty directly to mean: a nightmare running away from a monster she can not see, she is exhausted and hides in a well. And she gives up and just asked the monster to show itself to know what she was running from before she dies.
@@autohmae To me. that is a perfect description of what depression is like. I've dealt with it all my life. It is just like a monster that is always chasing you, and the more you fight it, the more exhausted you become.
@@Alzurath-metal1 I fully understood why you mentioned depression and why my description would fits so well (at least I can imagine), was just pointing out that was the first time I saw someone mention that interpretation about this song. People might want to be aware of that.
@@autohmae That's the great thing about Babymetal's world wide community of fans. Every person has their own definition of what their songs mean to them. It just gives their music that much more power.
You definitely have to check out Road of Resistance-live in Japan next from these guy. Dragon force wrote the guitar parts and is probably one of my favorite songs from them.
@@TankTheTech Make sure to save your reaction if you do Road of Resistance. I believe that one gets hit with copyrights a lot and some people just upload their reaction on another site with the link in the description.
@@TankTheTech Road to resistance is a definite must watch. You will recognize the cowriters of that song immediately. Make sure it is a live version so you can see the crowd control
Dragon Force did not write the guitar parts. Herman said on his stream they sent them a midi-like synth with the guitar parts and said "make it sound like a power metal song", so they did.
It's funny. On paper, Babymetal is everything I hate. I could go down the list. I don't like 'gimmicks', I don't like giant high budget 'music acts' where the front people are merely the face of a conglomerate of people behind the scenes. I like raw actual bands performing with the minimal of production support, meaning the tracks and whatnot. And I'm not even mentioning the whole cute meets raging aspect. What may have started off as a gimmick has evolved into something way way beyond that. But, the totality of what they do is so overwhelming and so insane and improbable. Every single aspect and every single person involved with that huge budget 'thing' that is Babymetal is executing at such a ridiculously high level. The composers, the choreographer, the stage designer, the lighting designer, the costumer, the visual artists with the computer animation, the story telling, and last, but definitely not least, Su-Metal and Moa-Metal and their absolute commitment to what they do. Man, it's really something special.
They may be high budget now, but they certainly didn't start as such. In their early year they really had to work on a very minimal budget, and it was absolutly not started as an easy "cash grab" seeing that they had no backing until they gained their following through talent.
its funny because they were pretty "Lucky" on the aspect of high budget. little story: if you research their first perfomance overseas at sonisphere on 2014 they were ready to play for 5k people at a small stage and suddenly the band switch to a big stage opening the event for bands like ghost b.c and iron maiden and playing for 60k people. The girls were terrified if you see their pictures right before the show you can see their faces of "omg we re so fucked" and when it starts everybody got that strange reaction of "who the hell are this girls" but along the show babymetal was able to cativate the audience and by the last song everybody was mosh piting, they sold out albuns and t-shirts at sonisphere on this day selling even more than iron maiden. After this they were invited to tour with big bands and got their prestigie and only got bigger and bigger. Bring me the horizon band also talks about how was work with them, telling how they are super organized methodic and hardworking and this got them thinking that they were not used to see bands working like that. I really enjoyed you comment cause its make total sense, and its nice from you to admire them besides you dont really like it. Babymetal has a great story like a band and they were trough a lot of stuff, moa got injuried in one show and yet finished it until the last song, their guitarrist died, yui had to leave, still they continue to inovate on every aspect of metal music, this band really inspires me a lot. ( there's a lot of bad english here I'm sorry)
Every band that is someone started with a gimmick. Be it System of a Down or Rammstein. That's how they get known. Talent makes them stay. If you don't want gimmicks there is a loooooooooooooot of pop out there for you. Not the stuff we remember from the 70s, the stuff we forgot from the 70s.
Once again, excellent reaction! Really appreciate the spot on recognition of the equipment/hardware, etc. Its like having access to a Musician's Masterclass. The same is true of Chase's reactions. Arigatou! 🦊🤘

⚡ / 🔥 😱 🔥 Nice research on the instruments. Although Leda Cygnus is playing an ESP at this show, and he has a couple of ESP custom models, he is better known for his signature line of Strandberg guitars. You'll often see guitarist Takayoshi Ohmura playing his signature ESP Snapper 7 (Pink-chan). Since Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka passed away in early 2018, Ohmura often plays one of the guitars he inherited from his great friend. BTW, Su was still only 16 at this performance. Her birthday is in December, which throws some people off. They have piano tracks, and backing harmonies, but she sings everything live that can be sung live.
Yeeeeah another Babymetal reaction !! I've been listening to metal for more than 10 years and I can say that Babymetal has become one of my favorite bands of all time, many people say, how can it work? And it's simple for me, because they are excellent in everything they do, the Kami band are really great musicians, the girls are extraordinary in their vocie, performance and energy that they give in the shows and well ... everything that Babymetal does in general is brilliant because they have always taken the project seriously
holy shit tank removed his hat and head banged on a BABYMETAL song this video reaction is going down in history! maybe Tank will soon join THE ONE and be a fan
Really glad you did this one man, and watching you is exactly what happened to me when I discovered this band. I mean, like everyone else I went and saw "gimme chocolate" first and thought it was dumb, but once I checked out some more stuff from them I was hooked. You just don't expect a band called Babymetal to have such amazing, god-tier musicians. Great vid as always man!
I really enjoy getting to see someone who has a lot of experience working with bands in tour break down some of this stuff, really informative and super entertaining. Probably one of their most entertaining and memorable performances would be BABYMETAL DEATH Legend 1997, and is absolutely worth checking out.
As they say "Your skills need to be Kami Band level or higher to summom the Queen of Metal" Love your reactions, input, and tank facts. Glad you are enjoying them. Another fun one would be Headbanger! - Live Legend 1997 Apocolypse. Great live performance and banger for sure. There's even a subtitled version floating around too.
Happy birthday Chase - great choice. Tank, you got one of your facts wrong - Su was only 16 when they played the Budokan - they were the youngest female band to ever headline there (Yui and Moa were 14) and they sold it out two nights running. Backing track has additional instruments (piano etc) and additional vocals (growls screams etc) plus some harmonies Su will have pre-recorded ... her lead vocals are all live. There are specific parts in certain songs that are on the backing track (eg when she is behind the mask in 'Megitsune') but those are obvious. In the softer section here she was using a technique of holding the mic against her nose and singing across it to get the nasal effect like she was singing through a tube. She spoke recently in an interview about how she moves in the recording studio in order to get the right breathing techniques to be able to sing each song live as perfectly as she can while still doing often strenuous choreo. She even said about using different breathing techniques for venues at altitude. She is a much more talented vocalist than many people can possibly imagine.
I don't think she's untalented AT ALL. I think she's a great singer. I just know how this touring industry works and know how common tracked vocals are. It's not an exclusive thing with BabyMetal, and I don't mean to call them out on it. Tons of bands do it so the performance sounds as good as possible. Doesn't mean the singers aren't good. I've worked for bands and have been present for sound checks when they test the tracks for the live shows, and you can HEAR how much vocal tracks are on there. I think a lot of people are so emotionally invested in the bands they like that they hear the term "tracks" and think I'm using it to discredit the band. I promise you I'm not.
@@TankTheTech No I know you're not discrediting her or the band at all and I know I may be coming over as a defensive fanboy (and I guess I am that to a degree), but I do honestly believe you are over-estimating the use of backing track with Su in particular - it was used more for Yui and Moa as they have the more energetic choreo to contend with. There are videos around of them doing sound checks that are clearly all live vocals. They used backing track when they were still a sub-unit of an Idol group, but Su's vocals have been live since they started doing their own shows in 2012 (not the very first one, that was all backing track, but the first 'bigger' show, Legend I, in October 2012 where the Kami Band also made their first appearance playing two songs for the encore). I think the fans can all point out the moments or specific parts in songs that are on backing track - I mentioned one in my original comment, but the fact her voice cracked on one note in one song when they played the Forum in LA last year and it became a huge topic of conversation on all the social media sites must also say something. Anyway - great reaction and I hope you will listen to more BABYMETAL, they will surprise you nearly every time I think.
@@TankTheTech Oh Tank, how dare you accuse the Queen of such things. I'm kidding tho, but for real the vast majority of what she is doing is live. I'm glad you enjoyed this one.
Boognish QC Haha. All good. Maybe I got my timing off. I saw interviews where they’ve said they used a lot of vocal tracks but eventually got off of using them a ton. Might have happened sooner than I thought.
@@TankTheTech Check out this spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lDQ-B7yWYl6XxO8LZg4zWMYjXgapr2j8rmC19MZTsmY/edit#gid=1038510118 You can see that they startet out in 2010 with no live band until the Kami Band started playing in 2012. Up until 2013 they had several shows where a couple of songs were 100% lip-synced. The other songs had live vocals. I think it's a gradual process where they moved from 100% backing tracks to where they are today. Of course that doesn't mean that they still might have some layered vocals today to achieve a better sound.
I can not wait for Sis Anger (the dark heavy music) and Road of Resistance (for the song, as it is my favorite, but also the production which is insane) on this channel. Love the reaction! And happy birthday chase!
Well put with the backing tracks! I honestly think they add to the live performance. It gives you those elements from the recording that for one reason or another wouldn't be able to be produced live
Agreed. To many people up in the air over nothing. Backing tracks are fine, especially when thinking about Idol bands lol. Anyone thinking an IDOL BAND wouldn't use backing tracks is crazy. Hell anyone who thinks a professional band isn't using backing tracks is crazy. Not everyone can pay to have an entire orchestra and choir tour with them for one song lol.
Chase's birthday wish is probably to sharethe kove of babymetal haha love your reaction man. Love the technical tidbits as qell. Amazi g how you can discern equipment just by looks. So cool man. More Babymetal! Haha
While browsing at the comments I found none (there may be some, I have not thoroughly read them all, so many comments, everyone, sorry, though it's awesome) mentioning that you're listening to Maximum The Hormone at the end. I absolutely love both bands; I'm getting a 2+1 (no reaction to MTH, but almost). Awesome vid!
Happy Birthday Chase!! At one of the most prestigious venues in the World, a Sixteen year old Suzuka Nakamoto ascends on a platform Two Meters above a rotating stage to dance in the dark and sing about a never ending nightmare of being chased by a Faceless Terror and begging a 'Boon' that it show her its Face just once before she dies... That's Metal. . Put your Kitsune UP!! Po! .
@@autohmae I knew that...thats why I was changing it at the same time you were writing this...lol!! No idea why I said seventeen..was only about 3 months after the Legend 1997 show....her 16th birthday show.
@@watcher2554 probably because in the video he had 17 as one of the facts.:-) (easy to get wrong when just looking at years, because her birtyday is so late in the year)
"when it started I thought I was listening to Meshuggah" I believe this song is a tribute to Bleed, not just the heavy drums but especially the visuals and the theatricals at this particular concert. The guys with their facepaint, the light effects resembling lightnings, Su standing high above on a platform, even some of her choreography (her hand moves) is taken straight from the Bleed MV.
I think my favorite part of this all are the Tank Facts. They're so neat and informative and interesting as someone who knows like nothing about the gear etc.
As far as "tracks" are concerned... of course there are vocal, effect, and more being pumped through the house speakers. I would love to see Babymetal add a couple keyboards and have Moa sing more. Her singing on Headbanger is good and the crowd loves it.
Look at Boh, Leda, and Ohmura are positioned around the Queen, as if to say anyone want to mess with Babymetal will have to go through them first. This is a high level of trust, and you can really feel that in their songs and performances. They fully believe in her, and she know she can rely to them. Just how many excellent musicians fails due to the issue of trust... PS: Chase Carneson is nothing short than a legend (for me at least ^^).
Only just discovered this band through reactions. Reading the wikipedia page, they were supposedly formed as a manufactured idol group and then became independent in 2013. Pretty cool. It seems like they've already exceeded the average lifespan of a manufactured girl band so hopefully they keep going strong.
8 months late and I don't know how I didn't watch that so far. But if there was a babymetal song I'd wished for to see a reaction from you it is exactly this one (for the intro of course) and it was the best coincidence for a while that this showed up somewhere in the depths of TH-cam recommended videos haha
Great reaction and love how detailed you go with instruments and all that...very informative :) I know some people won't want to admit that Babymetal use backing tracks, but they definately do. Have been to a few of their concerts myself and it's definately there. However, as you said, they are used to beef up the sound. Suzuka's live vocals are always very high in the mix, to the extend where you can easily hear when she make small mistakes here and there (as people do when singing). In short, it's there but you mainly hear her live vocals, which is then supported by a track. Depending on the song the track is sometimes more noticable. In the chorus of one of their newer songs, BxMxC which I would love to see you react to, it's definately more noticable
BOH is just fucking incredible. Not sure how much vocal tracks they use. I mean that quiet part after the breakdown most definitely is prerecordered I'd think, and Yui's and Moa's vocals are also heavily backed because they are more focusing on the dancing than the vocals. But Su's performances are pretty live I'd think. Babymetal is just amazing. I saw them live three times now. The great thing is the variety in their sound. They go from Nordic Folk to Djent to Power Metal to Bollywood sounding stuff to Polyphia to ballads and whatever else in just a single album. Never gets boring.
BOH is amazing, though I think he only gets to hold the "6 String Bass God" moniker because Jeroen Paul Thesseling plays a 7 string.... :P (but oh to have them jamming together or haveing a Bass Off would be a dream come true)
I've heard once that the quiet part here isn't prerecorded and that it's a special singing technique. But I don't know if that's true, could have been wrong information.
@@sailorcat, I do not think there is a consensus on which that verse is. Whether, switched in effect at the soundboard, nasal resonance mic technique, or backing track, all are plausible. But to my eyes and ears Su- stops lip-syncing just before the verse ends in order to set up for coming back in with the chorus. Wish I had the original disk instead of just having seen a few video copies of this performance.
@@johnschultz7765 The 'effect' is simply EQ: a massive cut (maybe even a full cut-off) on the lows/highs and boost in the mids (probably around 2k-3k, based on Su's voice). Also, a compressor would help to keep it from getting too 'peaky'. Now whether or not it's live, I can't say. As far as I can tell, even the original video isn't 100% consistently in sync w/ the audio, so I think it's almost impossible to state definitively whether or not she's lip-syncing. But even as dramatic as the effect seems, it could be done very easily/cheaply on any live audio channel... for any performer.
@@sailorcat No that was just a guy who doesn't know better. Its totally lipsync you can even see in this very video where Su ends the lipsync early by a hair. However the rest of the song is her. At least in this one.
You're correct about the vocal tracks. I don't think they're necessarily a lot, but they can be quite loud in the recorded concerts. The one part she wasn't singing was the second pre-chorus, and it's only for the dramatic effect. Suzuka, in my opinion, is one of the best *live* vocalists in metal. It's something a lot of reactors seem to not realize while reacting to their live videos cause there's so much going on. As a fan who listens to their albums and all that, seeing Su sing live is just jaw-dropping every single time! The tracks don't make a big difference. I think they're not as audible when you see them live. I'm usually even more amazed when watching fan-cams cause of that power of her vocals without the loud double or whatever. You should check out 'Road of Resistance Live In Japan'. This one features some of the best instrumental work by Babymetal, and you'll also see Su's vocal stability when she's doing more choreography with Yui and Moa. Also a sidenote, someone said to you that Yui and Moa never sing live. I just wanna say this is very untrue. You'll hear some vocals by them in Road of Resistance. Have a good one!
Happy birthday, Chase, and thank you for recommending this! I wonder why these musicians don't seem to have reached international fame. At least I have never heard of them before I got into BABYMETAL, and as a guitarist I'm usually not completely in the dark. I might put Ohmura (who played the second solo) on a level with the likes of John Petrucci. I'm a tiny bit disappointed that the song didn't drive Su's vocals home for you, it seems. I thought it might. I think she does a fantastic job, and I prefer this a lot over growls or the "usual" Metal voices. Her voice sits nicely on top of the Metal groundwork, she cuts through the mix perfectly, and I find her voice very pleasing. It sounds like you are more in the stage of "being able to tolerate her voice". I would take a bet that her vocals in this one are live, except for possibly the calm part in the middle with the blue lighting. I had always been convinced that that part was played from a backing track, but it was actually another reactor (or two of them independently) who stated that she might actually be doing this live, and tilting the mic upwards and moving it a bit towards her nose to achieve that thinner, more nasal sound live. I'm not denying that they are using backing tracks. The additional instruments that are not on stage are from a track, and I'm pretty sure that there are additional guitars sometimes as well. There are also vocal harmonies to Su's lead vocals for some songs, although I don't think I heard them in this performance. And Moa and Yui's backing vocals are (sadly) often lipsynced, but I guess that's excusable given the energy they are displaying with their dancing all throughout the show. And of course these official video releases have been through post production, where intonation errors have been addressed. I guess every artist does that nowadays. But if you watch a fancam clip, you'll notice that Su's vocals are usually remarkably stable, especially considering that she is doing some dancing as well. Edit: Just remembered something: There's actually a rip of her mic signal of this song available on the internet. Probably not from this performance, though.
This performance DID drive her vocals home for me. I think a lot of people are confusing me saying "tracks" with "lip-syncing". I know that she's singing most of the time, I'm just stating that there were definitely vocal tracks in there as well.
@@TankTheTech I would like to understand what you mean, could you please elaborate? What does tracking mean when not lip-syncing? Does that mean there would be two voices singing the same vocal line simultaneously? Or are you referring to additional vocal lines like harmonies?
this comment section is so fun, I wanna put my two cents in, first Happy Birthday Chase, second congrats for the happy couple, third Babymetal rules, and finally if they were to play this song again, the monster would be begging Su for mercy, and if you doubt that then listen to BxMxC. and one more thing, great content Tank.
Since you enjoyed this one. Lets go in another direction. "Sis Anger" Features the other two girls while Su takes a break. And is probably one of if not THE hardest song in their library to date.
I always love your analysis reaction and "Tank Fact" and I'm very appreciated when I saw you headbanging on this song. That's be honor for them that you really really enjoy it a lot. as a fanboy of this band, about "track" u mentioned in react, I understood. some channel said this thing either and everyone love it. that's just for fulfill a show.
For more Babymetal: Megitsune is a great song that blends some distinctive Japanese instrumentation into its sound in a cool way. Oh Majina is super fun, kinda dumb song that features vocals from Joakim from Sabaton. Road to Resistance has guitar parts written by Dragonforce and is great if that's a sound you like. Honestly, pretty much every song on their latest album Metal Galaxy is a lot of fun. There's also a really fun video of them playing Painkiller and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford from a few years back that's well worth a watch.
I was really looking forward to you getting to this performance and I was not disappointed. I don't think anything in this performance is backing track for her except for the nasal part where she's bent over in a position that is not all supportive of singing, but they definitely use post-production for all of their pro-shot videos to smooth things out a little. I'm sure it sounded a bit different if you were actually at that performance.
@@Brainth_1780 Yeah, you're right. I hadn't listened closely enough before, I guess. This should be no surprise given that most of Babymetal's songs have Yui & Moa to provide harmonies to give Su a boost. Using a back track to do it isn't really different.
"I never thought that I would sit here and headbang to Babymetal." That was three and a half years ago. Nine weeks from the time I'm writing this, you're probably going to meet them at Fox Fest in Japan. Lucky guy!
@@TankTheTech So EC and Babymetal actually met? That was the rumour last summer, but never reliably confirmed. Ever since the lineup for FoxFest was announced I'm fantasizing about a collaboration on stage, but that's probably just my imagination running wild. BTW: You may or may not have noticed that seven days ago a collaboration between Babymetal and Thai artists F.Hero (rap, shout &growl) and Bodyslam (a Hard Rock/Metal band) dropped. The original MV on the "F.Hero official" channel has already been clicked 1,6 Mio. times as I write this. I could imagine you quite liking it, as it incorporates ideas not unlike EC's music If you are still inclined and have the time to do a new Roady Reaction video, this one would be worth it, I guess.
They do use a lot of tracks. The synths and the quiet Vox part right after the bridge. They have this dude called the manipulator to do the triggering. They often use VOX tracks for the lead singers vocal harmonies and of course all the growls and the screaming. Megitsune relies heavily on BTs since the topline is coming from a synth that are supported by the guitars. I do have to say Babymetal is one of those bands that get how to mix backing tracks live. Right amount separation from the Live sound but still thickens up the FOH. Fun Fact: Ted Jensen mastered this show for the dvd release. The guy who mastered Deftones Around the Fur, American Idiot, and Hotel California. They take their mixes seriously.
Love your honest reactions and providing explanation on-screen. I first listened to their song Karate as requested by a friend when we were on vacation in Japan. Have been deep into them ever since!
Thanks for doing this reaction ! Happy b-day Chase. BOH's inspiration when he was a young bass player was Billy Sheehan, an other 6-stirng bass player. Which I would hope you know. :-) With Babymetal he had met his idol at a festival in Europe in 2014 or probably 2015. And I think it was in 2019 got to practice and perform with him at the famous Budokan venue in Tokyo as part of a concert of a famous singer in Japan. If you are hearing from this in some way that she isn't singing live... then what you are more likely hearing is the editing ? Now their are definitely times tracks are involved especially for the other girls, Yuimetal and Moametal. Anyway., don't see these comments as criticism, most of are willing to learn if you point it out.
Well Tank likes (maybe even loves) Sabaton, so maybe he should react to the Babymetal Sabaton Video, because the Lead Singer got the very silly part of that song but still awesome to watch and hear it XD
I have seen Babymetal 3 times, and they have been some of the best and most entertaining concert experiences I have ever had! And your reaction to BOH soloing was the exact same reaction I had the first time I ever witnessed it: mouth agape and completely dumbfounded!
The Kami Band usually get a share of the Spotlight in all of BMs live shows. I've watched multiple DVDs of their live shows and there is always a time for the band to show off their stuff. Unfortunately a lot it get blocked on TH-cam when people post them.
Great reaction man! The Kami Band is just amazing you are right with the backing tracks in the music and harmonies with the voice of Su-Metal... She is always singing live but Babymetal use the backing tracks a lot more in those past years, recently they use less the backing tracks atleast with the main vocals, you can heard that in their new pro-shoots of this year and last year... What it is a fact is that Babymetal is an awesome live show, they are so profesional and dedicated to deliver a great show 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻
Now you've really got to check out their song Tales of The Destinies, it'll confuse and delight you in equal measure, the amount of time signature changes is insane.
I didn't expect that I could learn loads of things about the instruments that musicians uses by watching this channel's video. I was so happy to be a big fan of this channel. Thanks TA TA TA TA!!!
They do use tracks for some background instruments, and they use a click track, they sort of have to with all the choreography. They sometimes use effects for an effect, but in this song that breakdown is largely Su. She is compressing her vocal folds by tilting her neck forward, she tilts the mic so she is singing into the bottom of it, and the mic is against her nose so she is picking up an airy sound through her nasal passages. It's an interesting technique. She is sixteen here by the way. Her birthday is in late December.
Su is using track 100% (i.e. not singing) on this part, and it's not the only song they do that. Please point me to the source talking about this mysterious technique, apart from another youtube reaction when someone suggested this and some fans actually believed it. (I'm a big fan BTW and have seen them live many times)
Great reaction. The amount of tracked vocals is a common point of contention with BABYMETAL and some fans can get really defensive about it. She is a great vocalist for sure, she is definitely singing live and they are definitely using backing tracks. Let's just say that what comes from her mic, what goes out to the live PA, and what ends up in the final mix that gets released can be very different things. Probably varies a lot from song to song and from venue to venue.
Thanks for the great reaction! This is one of my favorite Babymetal songs. I ALSO really dig "Catch Me If You Can", and I bet you will too. I recommend it.
Man, you sure that pic of Chase with a feather boa is a Meme. Last birthday he did a naked 'Alice Cooper' impression with a boa constrictor, then fell down drunk by 7:00 pm :D
Su-metal sometimes uses a vocal technique called nasal resonance And can give her voice an almost like chorus effect And she has great control over it it's very rare for vocalists to use it in the West And only a few vocalists actually use it in Japan also when she sings and the way she controls her breathing through mouth and through nostrils The sound bounces around in the nasal cavity and comes out also in an old interview she had talked about learning a new vocal technique And how it gave her voice this unique sound
Yup...never gets old seeing people blown away by this act....it's called 'The BABYMETAL effect'....Here's the thing...it's not just music or a cool light show....it's theater and storytelling.....The Japanese culture has a history with this stuff....now the rest of the world is catching on....
You're spot on with Leda's ESP. it's an ESP M series, 24 fret. I have the LTD version of that (also made by ESP). Takayoshi Ohmura is playing his signature model ESP Snapper, named "Gold-chan". It's a 7 string guitar, no floating bridge or locks, scalloped on frets 15-24. also has a similar guitar that is pink with nearly the same layout, called "Pink-chan". BOH has variants of that bass, as he is exclusive to that company. All of them are 6 string basses, with some scalloped from frets 15-24, while some are fretless.
That bassist was AWESOME... And agreed, the way they jump around on stage, they can't be singing live constantly. So backing tracks are a necessity. Great reaction!
Love seeing the babymetal reactions! But what I loved even more was the fact he was playing Maximum the Hormone during the end there, would love to see a reaction of that band
TL;DR
The term "tracks" does not mean "lip syncing".
I said "sensitive", but judging by the comments I should have said "overly sensitive" 😂
It is also important to note that many BABYMETAL fans are not native English speakers so it is easy for miscommunications to happen.
Po!
Fine. I admit it. I'm obsessed with watching people react to Babymetal and this was so great to watch. THANK YOU 🙏🏻
I just discovered BABYMETAL and same 😅

@@A_Toastonawhiteplate Yeah, I could stop anytime. I just dont wanna to. At this moment. But I can. When I will. But I dont.

Great reaction again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。The 3 girls once said "We feel we have been protected all the time by Kami band" and Kamis said "The girls took us to stages in the world, outside of Japan. We have nothing but gratitude towards them". This is the ideal relations between talented front performers and super supporting musicians, isn't it ?
wow great
Wow 👏
It's the epitome of "team effort"
After 10 years... BabyMetal & Kami Band are synonymous with each other. That goes with the new western members of the Kami Band. The One loves the Kamis just as much. No egos among all parties as they continue bring such amazing musical artistry.
RIP Mikio 🌟

When I saw 2 Kami Bands on the same stage together with 5 girls in RoR at Makuhari Day-1 show I was about to die for joy.
the way he's astonished into complete stillness by boh's bass solo🔥🔥🔥 THATS RIGHT KAMI BAND!!!
@@Zedem0n agree.... mutualism
Stoked for that one.

super congratz! Wishing you two a long and happy life together!
That’s awesome. I like that they do that, and I like it even more now that you’ve given me the lyrical concept for it. 🤘
Totally enjoyed the video!! lmao, wasn't sure if I'd dig on Babymetal but this performance is winning me over. xD
You definitely have to check out Road of Resistance-live in Japan next from these guy. Dragon force wrote the guitar parts and is probably one of my favorite songs from them.
Might have to be the next one!
Yessir you won’t be disappointed!🤟🦊
You put it so well!
its funny because they were pretty "Lucky" on the aspect of high budget. little story: if you research their first perfomance overseas at sonisphere on 2014 they were ready to play for 5k people at a small stage and suddenly the band switch to a big stage opening the event for bands like ghost b.c and iron maiden and playing for 60k people.
Like if Disney decided to back Miley Cyrus and hired Slipknot as the band...
I like the fact you look at the gear and explain in the fun facts. Interesting take. Nobody I've seen does that
Thanks!

Nice research on the instruments.
Great to see you still providing great info. Thank you.
The drummer can only be described as a punishing metronome to me. Hes so on time it makes me cry. Add Boh and the world can end.
Nice to see you reacting to some more Babymetal! I dismissed them myself for a long time, but once I actually watched them, I was hooked.
Love seeing bassists getting some love...
Kami Band is just insane. And the Girls just harmonize so perfectly with them.
Band-Maid and BABYMATAL is the best thing that has happned to Rock/Metal in decades!!!!!
holy shit tank removed his hat and head banged on a BABYMETAL song this video reaction is going down in history! maybe Tank will soon join THE ONE and be a fan
5:45-6:15 Your reaction to BOH was... Predictable! 😁👍
I had the same facial expression when I heard that bassist.
I really enjoy getting to see someone who has a lot of experience working with bands in tour break down some of this stuff, really informative and super entertaining.
Probably one of their most entertaining and memorable performances would be BABYMETAL DEATH Legend 1997, and is absolutely worth checking out.
As they say "Your skills need to be Kami Band level or higher to summom the Queen of Metal"
Love your reactions, input, and tank facts.
@@TankTheTech Check out this spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lDQ-B7yWYl6XxO8LZg4zWMYjXgapr2j8rmC19MZTsmY/edit#gid=1038510118
You can see that they startet out in 2010 with no live band until the Kami Band started playing in 2012.
Haha
Great reaction, I really enjoyed this one. All of the Kamis, both West and Japanese, are awesome.
Never apologize for playing more Babymetal. Great reaction. Enjoy the insight on the instruments and respect for talent.
While browsing at the comments I found none (there may be some, I have not thoroughly read them all, so many comments, everyone, sorry, though it's awesome) mentioning that you're listening to Maximum The Hormone at the end. I love Babymetal. They rock man, glad you're liking their stuff
"when it started I thought I was listening to Meshuggah"
I believe this song is a tribute to Bleed, not just the heavy drums but especially the visuals and the theatricals at this particular concert. The guys with their facepaint, the light effects resembling lightnings, Su standing high above on a platform, even some of her choreography (her hand moves) is taken straight from the Bleed MV.
'This sounds like it might rock...' The man's a seer
I think my favorite part of this all are the Tank Facts. They're so neat and informative and interesting as someone who knows like nothing about the gear etc.
As far as "tracks" are concerned... of course there are vocal, effect, and more being pumped through the house speakers.
I would love to see Babymetal add a couple keyboards and have Moa sing more. Her singing on Headbanger is good and the crowd loves it.
Takayoshi Ohmura was Marty Friedman's touring guitarist.... so yeah, he's pretty good.
Didn’t know that!
Great reaction and love how detailed you go with instruments and all that...very informative :)
I know some people won't want to admit that Babymetal use backing tracks, but they definately do.
@TankTheTech 'Ikuzo'! (Let's go)
Thanks for picking this one, Chase! You made a good choice there :D
Also yes, BOH is a legend
Thank you for listening to Babymetal
Please listen again💕🇯🇵
great reaction🤘😆
No one expected headbanger with Su the Queen and the Cuties , this project is huge with respect to metal music no matter Fusion or whatever
Do you mean that in ear rip ? Yup, it's from this one 😉

At last, I've been waiting for this one, because I knew you would like it, and it would finally bring you around to how good they are.
this comment section is so fun, I wanna put my two cents in, first Happy Birthday Chase, second congrats for the happy couple, third Babymetal rules, and finally if they were to play this song again, the monster would be begging Su for mercy, and if you doubt that then listen to BxMxC. and one more thing, great content Tank.
Since you enjoyed this one. Lets go in another direction. "Sis Anger" Features the other two girls while Su takes a break. And is probably one of if not THE hardest song in their library to date.
Agreed
agreed
I bet this was just what Chase intended
Bro...your face when the bass solo started was priceless!!!!!
🤘
I always love your analysis reaction and "Tank Fact" and I'm very appreciated when I saw you headbanging on this song.
That's be honor for them that you really really enjoy it a lot.
as a fanboy of this band, about "track" u mentioned in react, I understood. some channel said this thing either and everyone love it.
that's just for fulfill a show.
Uuuhh Deathnote in the background in the postdiscussion ^^ nice one
For more Babymetal: Megitsune is a great song that blends some distinctive Japanese instrumentation into its sound in a cool way. Oh Majina is super fun, kinda dumb song that features vocals from Joakim from Sabaton. Road to Resistance has guitar parts written by Dragonforce and is great if that's a sound you like. Honestly, pretty much every song on their latest album Metal Galaxy is a lot of fun. There's also a really fun video of them playing Painkiller and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford from a few years back that's well worth a watch.
ALL of Babymetal's songs from any three of the albums are fun! :)
There's harmonies mixed in during different parts of the song too, to give her more oomph
Lucky guy!
I've already me the girls, actually. They came to EC's show in Boston last year and I escorted them into the venue.
I could imagine you quite liking it, as it incorporates ideas not unlike EC's music
If you are still inclined and have the time to do a new Roady Reaction video, this one would be worth it, I guess.
Forgot the title: Leave it All Behind
Love the Letterkenny thumbnail! Clicked like just for that and of course your awesome content!
Get this man a Puppers!
Премного благодарен за разъяснение использованных инструментов! Такое впервые встретил только у вас.
Great reaction. My favorite part is the information and fact pop up about bass player. Unique way to do an reaction and I love learning new things.
Random fact: "Un atelier" is French for "a workshop". Un atelier de menuiserie/a carpenter workshop, un atelier de peinture/a painter workshop.
Love your honest reactions and providing explanation on-screen. I first listened to their song Karate as requested by a friend when we were on vacation in Japan. Have been deep into them ever since!
Just found your channel, awesome reaction. I saw them live in new york, amazing show.
Thanks for doing this reaction ! Happy b-day Chase.
BOH's inspiration when he was a young bass player was Billy Sheehan, an other 6-stirng bass player. Which I would hope you know. :-)
With Babymetal he had met his idol at a festival in Europe in 2014 or probably 2015.
Thank you very much for the background information 👍🙏
The reaction to the bass solo is the same in every reaction video -- just dumbstruck, jaw dropping awe!
What it is a fact is that Babymetal is an awesome live show, they are so profesional and dedicated to deliver a great show 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻
Fantastic reaction. There's so much more to this band than being gimmicky.
100% agree. The more I hear, the more I like.
That's an interesting technique, but she isn't doing that in this song. Its just a backing track.
Nasal resonance?
They say she can do it live
Hideki Aoyama's father was a legendary drummer in the Japanese music scene.
Tank you for your detailed reaction.
Edit: Just saw this was one of your firsts. Sorry. I’m a fan!
Slaughter To Prevail - Demolisher
Some truly heavy sh*t.
Kami band, meaning "band of the gods." Pretty fitting name, huh? Super fun reaction again. I'm very happy they're growing on you!
It’s also a pun on hair bands, because kami (written with a different character but pronounced the same) also means hair
Yeah, that bass solo...listened to that about a dozen times after I first heard it. Amazing.
Told you this would be a good one for you, lol. And of course Chase would recommend it. Always listen to Chase.
The end is so epic XD. But if i knew what the others did i should have said more XD
Oh btw, just a small nitpick, but it's spelled as BABYMETAL (one word, all caps). Loved the reaction, and happy birthday to Chase!
nice video man, cant wait to headbanging with HEADBANGERRR!!!
That bassist was AWESOME... And agreed, the way they jump around on stage, they can't be singing live constantly. So backing tracks are a necessity. Great reaction!
Dude, you REALLY should check out Megitsune. Its babymetal at their most "Japanese" and also shows off Su-metals vocal ability to its fullest.
Everytime I see that bass solo I get sad because I know no matter how much i practice I’ll never be able to be that good 😂
Love seeing the babymetal reactions! But what I loved even more was the fact he was playing Maximum the Hormone during the end there, would love to see a reaction of that band
The problem with Maximum the Hormone is the high possibility of getting a copyright strike from their label.
