      but they're most effective dropped by jets, and if there is a swarm, there will also be SAM systems going after the jets. not to mention that speed boats are equipped with manpads that can take down the jets. and a bomb can be spread over 50 acres, so munitions will hit the carrier too, not to mention the duds that turn into mines and environmental issues and why they were banned. sounds like a cluster alright lol

      They can detect and intercept ballistic missiles within the ships firing ranges, when the ballistic missile enters its terminal stage - most warships can, I believe even the Type 23s. They're proof against future anti-ship ballistic missiles and HGVs, only within the last couple of years have anti-ship ballistic missiles been a thing. The problem is they cannot provide regional ballistic missile defence as the Aster 30 doesn't have the range to intercept at midpoint.
      The Aster 30 Block I will be procured to provide the Type 45 with a short range BMD capability. I presume the future Type 83 frigate will be equipped with about 72-96 VLS cells to hold additional Aster 30 Block IIs, which are comparable to the SM-3 that the Burkes use. That's up from essentially 54 cells aboard the upgraded Type 45s.

      @FunnyQuailMan 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I quite like the Type 31 concept, now that it's confirmed that it'll have VLS cells installed. It strikes me as a much more versatile, much more well-armed, much sturdier & survivable steel-hulled version of what the Littoral Combat Ship was supposed to be. The Mk110 Bofors main gun may be relatively "small" at 57mm, but with the 220 rpm rate of fire, the amount of lead it can throw is really incredible. At intermediate to close ranges, it actually provides more than twice the firepower of any 5" gun, and combined with that pair of Mk 4 Bofors 40mm guns, I can't imagine any swarms of any kind of anything making it through.

    Cap & GR Team...a suggestion. For deconfliction of missile targets, is it possible to get the naval ships to "dribble out" missile launches?? Fire 4 or 5 missiles, wait for detonation on target, then launch another 4 or 5? This would only be for surface to surface engagement due to time between closing ranges but would ensure much more accurate targeting and less waste of missiles. Also, wouldn't a helo or 3 from the Arleigh Burke as an option be more fun for your pilots and add a bit of a change up for your spectators?

    A simple way to "visualize" distances without waypoints or sensors: if something is 10 degrees down from you, distance in nm is equal to your altitude above it in thousands of feet. If you stay at 7,000 MSL in this scenario, boats will be around 7 nm out when they hit the 10 degree line on the HUD. Yes, mavericks will tell you the distance while you're peeping through the screen, but not as manly or cool. That said, relying on a line on the HUD is kind of reddit-tier. Real men know a couple of different angles and simply eyeball the distance with sufficient accuracy.
