JAWS ride at Universal Studios Orlando has a malfunction during the final act of the attraction in 1998. Bart the Skipper was great at handling the guests through the unusual experience.
Should have sold the breakdown as a re-enactment from the movie. The shark was always breaking down during the shooting and we wanted to give you the full "filming experience". What an exclusive.
I remember working there, & passing by it at night when the park was closed & they did work on the ride. All the sharks would be above water, & workers in full body rubber swim suits & masks would get in the water. Was told they had to wear the rubber to keep the water off their skin because of all the different chemicals in it, it would cause rashes and stuff. One reason is because of the "oil" leaks (hydraulic fluid). Still was pretty cool to watch, seeing them test all the "machine" jaws.
He wasn't talking about tickets to get back into the park. He was referring to a ticket for your family to re experience the attraction fully without having to wait in line again.
Wow! Thats a funny breakdown, not many ppl get them on film! Nice, good job! I love this ride! And you were lucky enough to ride the revised version, which was only 4 years old at the time, too bad its so overused now...
The re-built version, they had to remake the ride in 1994 because it was plauged with problems. Mainly the turntable bit during the shark bites boat seen.
I went on this ride at Universal Studios, and was very disappointed. The only thing I wanted to see on that ride was Jaws but I never even got to see him because he was getting repairs! crossing the bridge I could see cause we were high up that down below was Jaws dismantled head. That ride really wasted my time!
that was supposed to be the burnt jaws after it gets electrocuted from that wire that was in the water but you dont see jaws coming up to get electrocuted in this video ::P that was one of the malfunctions
TheSmellymuffin11 the tickets were for the whole family and they didn't need to give them more than one I don't get why people keep complaining about it
@Robyns5 It'd be scary if they were able to get the shark to work while the boat was just sitting there. You would have a shark popping out of the water all randomly :O
Nice way to ruin the fun. When the un-harmed Jaws came up it ruined what woulld happen to all shows they had. The Plan: They use 1 shark to be unharmed and use a 2nd one ot bite the cord and "die". I just noticed that after I saw both sharks. The "dead" one and the "swimming" one. P.S A malfuction happened when i went. When Jaws came to attack us,he got STUCK on the boat. We all were given rubber gloves so we could touch it. XD But it bit my hand.
haha sorry about that folks, Jaws isn't really dead, he's just experiencing technical difficulties! ^_^ Yet people still screamed, would be interested to see how they reacted to it, if it was working
Is rude if I think ride break down really fasanates me I love to see how they work I got to walk the whole the mummy coaster when it broke down that was really asome
@cblord5 In the ride, he gets burnt up because the "gas station" that you see is suppose to catch fire, and he gets burnt up, and as he comes up to "attack" the boaters, he's all burnt to hell, and "dies" before he can do any actual harm. Back then it was cool to ride these rides, but now they just kinda seem like slow motion animatronics compared to the things made these days. It did break down a bit though.
the shark was smart. he thought back to jaws 2 and said"im not going through that bs again!" so he decided to place a dummy in his place, and swam out to the ocean.
That dam ride always breaks down! That's why you need to train a real shark to eat people. That way you take care of the tech bugs and the population issue. :D
I would've at least played off the shark bit as normally as possible, then acted like I couldn't get the boat into gear like at the boathouse. I dunno, I'd try to cover it up better than this guy.
The part where they show that tube the shark is supposed to come out & like bite it and when they show the burnt shark corpse under water it's like the shark after it bit it and got eletricuted or something.
@ZombieOrgasm Unless you worked the ride you don't know what exactly is going on. We're getting reports from the tower in our head phones/ear pierce telling us at that point whether to continue on with our spiel or just let your guests know what's going on and offer a solution to an unfinished ride.
The dead shark in scene 5 (burnt shark) does NOT get burned up because of the gas docks (Scene 4) but because he bit the high voltage cable & got fried. THAT is the end result of the electrocution. It's right after "EAT THIS!!!" Cut to the dead burnt shark floating to the surface. "Boy that thing is digusting! We really roasted him huh?!" Dead shark lunges at boat in last gasp. "Oh man. what a day!" ...-Sign me, "former JAWS skipper"
@DailyStorm Actually. I did work for this ride, for about 4 years. What you're saying is actually pretty false. Tower will usually tell us to continue to stall and pace. They might mention us to go ahead and password guests, but it is never suggested to immediately drop show (also. NEVER tell guests that there is an oil leak) and just not even attempt to stall at all. I'm sorry if you were trained improperly and I feel bad for the guests that you stalled for.
@zombieOrgasm: I don't know what years you worked it but policies changed as the years went on. I was trained by Mimi & Margaret. Stall & pace were most definitely used. Each situation, however, was unique. Unless you were on his boat that day or working Tower, don't judge.
Jaws is suppose to bite the power line in the water, but that didn't happen, and the burnt and messed up version of Jaws was that brown thing, it didn't come up fully.
I hate those high pitched skippers when they scream it makes your ears bleed! Universal doesn't let you do that! if a ride breaks down they don't give you a ticket!
I have rode it like a bajillion times it has never broken down for me but hey its an experience i know space mountain breaks down every day i have been on it like 5 times and 4 of those times the lights were on and we got stuck on a hill.. but thanks fr the video.
2 Christmases ago, i tried out one of the Air Swimmers...the shark, and after i put all of the electronic parts on it & leveled the shark out, i was in my bedroom at my desk, and it floated towards me and stopped. It did not hit nothing and stop, it stopped on its own, and talk about freaking out?!? LOL That i did! I later sold it. I don't think i'll ever have another Air Swimmers Shark, too damn realistic! ha ha Mine had a brain of its own apparently...like it stopped & stared at me. :-O
Should have sold the breakdown as a re-enactment from the movie. The shark was always breaking down during the shooting and we wanted to give you the full "filming experience". What an exclusive.
Sharks so badass he used the force to make the power lines break but still burned to death fail
"Pay no attention to that shark in the water" LOL
I remember working there, & passing by it at night when the park was closed & they did work on the ride. Am I the only that's scared of falling in that water with that animatronic shark?
No
xXrageblastXx I've always feared that haha
David Villegas me too
DEADLY afraid. I have Submechanophobia. The fear of submerged man made mechanical objects. Watching this is making me anxious 😰
Didn't know that was a phobia 😧
the shark didnt come out... and then the electricuted and rotten shark rose only half way.... damn.... it got reopened though its just sad....
I have a huge anxiety for things like that just sitting underwater. I think it's a problem.
This Skipper really sucks, especially at dealing with a ride malfunctioning...
Jaws: oh screw it they'll be back...
He wasn't talking about tickets to get back into the park. He was referring to a ticket for your family to re experience the attraction fully without having to wait in line again.
universal studios take's all the best rides away like if you agree
"It's under the boat!" A nice attempt to cover it up.
You can hear when the skipper's soul leaves his body, he says "alright" and he sounds so deflated lol
i like how you hear the jaw theme then where he's suppoed to come up, nothing happens =P
Wow! Thats a funny breakdown, not many ppl get them on film! Nice, good job! I love this ride! And you were lucky enough to ride the revised version, which was only 4 years old at the time, too bad its so overused now...
I`m pissed that they got rid of this ride, it was one of my favorite rides there when I was a kid.
Is it true that they removed the burnt shark smell?
0:52 is it just me or does it look scarier like that
0:52
Yeah I agree, it’s just scarier
The re-built version, they had to remake the ride in 1994 because it was plauged with problems. Mainly the turntable bit during the shark bites boat seen.

OMFG I SAW MY MOM!!!
ow
There’s no whales in the video?
@@quoudan1021 *c o l d*
Sophie Wasabi2 don’t lie
I'm not a good person..
If I was in that ride and that fake shark was moving I would be yippin the heck away
that was supposed to be the burnt jaws after it gets electrocuted from that wire that was in the water but you dont see jaws coming up to get electrocuted in this video ::P that was one of the malfunctions
This is amazing I never seen the jaws ride break down on TH-cam
Damn 1 ticket per family that's crazyyy
Ikr!!!
TheSmellymuffin11 the tickets were for the whole family and they didn't need to give them more than one I don't get why people keep complaining about it
it was actually pretty nice that they gave them tickets
the burnt JAWS looked scary or like driftwood O_O
Its funny how he is in character at first, but then immediately acts as a professional
I thought it was Jaws biting the electrical lines and getting burnt by electricity. The fire part happens before the high voltage part.
pretty sure it is the "dead shark" that is supposed to float up after the ride operator kills it but the ride broke down so it stayed underwater
'pay no attention to that shark under the water' LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Uh, buddy. Get with the times. Orlando ride of Jaws is gone and already been replaced. Jaws is still in Japan and Hollywood, Ca.
I tried to find your comment and ur in the bottom
This Skipper handled the situation absolutely terribly. He went against genuinely everything he was taught to do in this situation.
@Robyns5 It'd be scary if they were able to get the shark to work while the boat was just sitting there. You would have a shark popping out of the water all randomly :O
It was replaced already? What's the name of the new ride?
dude..the ride is soooooo old. no wonder it breaks down. ;P
I miss this ride. Our jaws in Florida is gone. Who else miss it. I think japan has their jaws ride. I think
Is it just me, or this ride always breaks down?!
Nice way to ruin the fun. When the un-harmed Jaws came up it ruined what woulld happen to all shows they had.

thats dangerous as hell an oil leak and all the fire and shit. good thing they called it off or those would have been some dead tourists!
Is rude if I think ride break down really fasanates me I love to see how they work I got to walk the whole the mummy coaster when it broke down that was really asome

1:46 kinda scary if you’re a passenger and you think that something on the ride isn’t working. Then you see that
It kinda looks like that it coming to you
It resets to the beginning
I would've at least played off the shark bit as normally as possible, then acted like I couldn't get the boat into gear like at the boathouse. I dunno, I'd try to cover it up better than this guy.
Proply that's the reason that universal toke out the jaws ride
Wait!
Why did jaws broke down??
0:31 nice music
this is very weird how it breaks down
what was that brown thing in the water??
I seen other videos that had something like this happen, but it wasn’t a breakdown
My nana told me that her and my uncle and my dad were on the ride when it broke down so I was wondering if there in this video
The part where they show that tube the shark is supposed to come out & like bite it and when they show the burnt shark corpse under water it's like the shark after it bit it and got eletricuted or something.
Lol some one in the background says " jaws broke" I laughed a little to hard
@ZombieOrgasm Unless you worked the ride you don't know what exactly is going on. We're getting reports from the tower in our head phones/ear pierce telling us at that point whether to continue on with our spiel or just let your guests know what's going on and offer a solution to an unfinished ride.
the fire it made the shark get near and became burnt.
@crashtoonpenguin36 I also meant that they had to get fake sharks and use them. They give away the fake one and then use the other one for "dying".
Yup, Also didn't get the shark biting the electrical cable to get "toasted".
The dead shark in scene 5 (burnt shark) does NOT get burned up because of the gas docks (Scene 4) but because he bit the high voltage cable & got fried. THAT is the end result of the electrocution. Are you still active on YT? I have questions!
no they took it out and replaced it with the Harry Potter ride
@DailyStorm Actually. I did work for this ride, for about 4 years. What you're saying is actually pretty false. Tower will usually tell us to continue to stall and pace. This ride was Banned Because Shark was Still Broken
lol" PAY NO ATTENTION THT SHARK UNDERWATER" LOL HAHAHAHAHHA
LOL I thought it was a crocodile! Haha!
why isn't jaws ride there anymore I've only just came back and I really wanted to go on it :(
Hate that for those people, hope they got to see it again years ago before they shut down
@zombieOrgasm: I don't know what years you worked it but policies changed as the years went on. I was trained by Mimi & Margaret. Stall & pace were most definitely used. Each situation, however, was unique. Unless you were on his boat that day or working Tower, don't judge.
@ruggburnn Listen. They use the non-burnt one to burn and the throw away the burnt one away. Yes. It was susposed to be burnt.
I haved nevered been on that ride! I would love, too!! So only going on in Hollywood, ca?
What happened that went wrong? Sorry I never rode it
Jaws is suppose to bite the power line in the water, but that didn't happen, and the burnt and messed up version of Jaws was that brown thing, it didn't come up fully.
@Quamlen LOOK AT THE BURNT SHARK
In 2013 just a few months ago it closed down because it dried up
Actually, the closed it down to make room for the Harry Potter attraction.
This in my opinion looks more realistic
why was the shark burnted
What happend to the shark there why didn’t the burn one work
hydraulic leak
a ticked to other ride? they where all free when you enter the park...?
Pretty sure it was a ticket to skip the line on any ride.
I hate those high pitched skippers when they scream it makes your ears bleed!
Universal doesn't let you do that! if a ride breaks down they don't give you a ticket!
What happened?
whats the brown thing at 0:55

I have rode it like a bajillion times it has never broken down for me but hey its an experience i know space mountain breaks down every day i have been on it like 5 times and 4 of those times the lights were on and we got stuck on a hill.. but thanks fr the video.
Looks like some drift wood covered in barnacles...
Amity Boat Tours..... I miss you.
Oil leak? That’s bad!
R.i.p ride
Peoples, the ride is still in Orlando Florida. universal studios. It's not gone...... im pretty sure........
They closed it down in 2012
Mg that real shark?
2 Christmases ago, i tried out one of the Air Swimmers...the shark, and after i put all of the electronic parts on it & leveled the shark out, i was in my bedroom at my desk, and it floated towards me and stopped. Bruce: DAMMIT! I MISSED MY CUE! Sorry, folks! I knew I should've worked for Disney...
ther was the real jows!
i just love it when it brakes ,for some reason idk why lol
you know the thing fire it made the shark burn.
I acually went to disney but i did not go to orlando mostly because it's too crowded and also it's too crowded
I guess the shark ( JAWS ) lost interest.
that's a little sad
What shark?
shark half comes out..
FUCK THAT SHIT ITS TOO COLD
OMFG what if that brown shark at the end pops up at the wrong time when the boat is stuck there..that would suck
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Damn you Mechanical Jaws.......... Remember folks one ticket per family!
