    ======== Christmas Truce LYRICS ==========
    Silence
    Oh, I remember the silence
    On a cold winter day
After many months on the battlefield
And we were used to the violence
Then all the cannons went silent
    And the snow fell
Voices sang to me from no man’s land
We are all, we are all, we are all, we are all friends
    And today we’re all brothers
    Tonight we’re all friends
A moment of peace in a war that never ends
    Today we’re all brothers
    We drink and unite
Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white
Hear carols from the trenches, we sing O holy night
Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes
A Christmas in the trenches, a Christmas on the front far from home
    Madness
    Oh I remember the sadness
    We were hiding our tears
In a foreign land where we faced our fears
    We were soldiers
Carried the war on our shoulders
    For our nations
Is that why we bury our friends?
We were all, we were all, we were all, we were all friends
A Christmas on the frontline, we walk among our friends, we don’t think about tomorrow, the battle will commence
When we celebrated Christmas, we thought about our friends, those who never made it home, when the battle had commenced
    ========== HISTORIC FACT ==========
On December 24, 1914, an unofficial Christmas Truce was enforced on the Western Front. An act of trust and harmony, British and German soldiers mingled and played games together in the midst of one of the most atrocious events of the 20th century - World War I.

What I find hardest to believe about this story is that they went back to war afterwards. I'm not surprised at all that they could have peace for Christmas, but imagine how hard it was for the first soldier to shoot someone he'd been singing and playing with just an hour before.
    Brilliant song, excellent video, though.

Sabaton immortalizes these events in their songs so that even when the history books eventually forget, fans of Sabaton never will.

It will be 107 years since an event that not even a Pope could not sway a truce on Christmas from either side, but the men in those muddy trenches for a moment in time, were able to put aside the war and the fact that they were the enemy. And were able to come together as equals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Although sadly not all of the fighting had stopped within the trenches since on some parts of the No Man’s Land shells and bullets from both sides were sent flying across the land.
But for the men who refused to fight on those two days. They did something that many in the world that time thought would be impossible to do. Were able to put down their weapons and come out and meet in the middle in a land scarred by war to celebrate Christmas. That there is a true Christmas Miracle.

Today, in my 20s, the lines "And we were used to the violence" and "We walk among our friends. We don't think about tomorrow. The battle will commence" brought tears to my eyes, because they reminded me again what one forgets so much when studying military strategies and tactics, war is cruel to all and kind to very few, it is the common people like you and me who pay the price for the rulers of the world, for as Machiavelli would say "The same thing that causes a quarrel between neighbors causes a war between princes".

The soldiers of the Christmas truce found out, that they actually had more in common with the poor bastard in the other trench, than with their own generals!
In the Christmas of 1915, the generals couldn't have that! So there was no repeat of the 1914 Christmas truce on this large scale, as the artillery kept firing ... Some DID come out of their trenches, but was mostly instantly killed by the enemy soldiers. No moment of peace in a war that'll never end ... Until 11 o'clock, 11th of November, 1918 ... Lol... the hitler cameo. This is amazing, and makes you think... the world was on fire, and for a small time everyone was just human beings....

What do Russians think about the relations between Russia and Ukraine? What would you say to a Russian attack on Ukraine?

You have made millions of people cry and connect with one story that really happened. In the Czech Republic, this song is played every day on RockZone and Rock radio. And I've got a lot to do to keep from crying in front of people. It's really emotional. I wish your band, all metalheads and people of good will a Merry Christmas and lots of snow.

PLOT TWIST: Sabaton invented a time machine and all the woierd events in history like this one is them creating the basis for a new song.
