@@APersonOnTH-camX As far as I remember, my great-great-great-grandfather gave some kind of gift to an Austro-Hungarian soldier during the Christmas truce on the Eastern front. My grandfather was an ordinary russian peasant who saw a man in the enemy... It's amazing. What a pity that there are no people who would have already mentioned it. They are all dead, but their kindness and humanity will remain with us for a long time...
This isn't gold. Not silver. Not even bronze. This is a crystal clear diamond here! The beauty in this song is literally in every piece of the lyrics! Keep up the nice buff muscles Sabaton!

Those men didn't hate each other, they were young men doing their job, fulfilling their duty for their country in the name of men who were too powerful and cowardly to put themselves on the line. Lest we forget.
yep the germans in WW2 were having severe morale problems by the time they lost because they knew full well they were working for the evil genocide empire and weren't powerful enough as individuals to stop it.
If only they would have loved and obeyed the Lord Christ more than the cowardly leaders, it would have been a permanent Christmas Truce. 😢 How could they go right back to killing each other after that?
I want to say, that my both Grand Grand Fathers from German and Russian parts were participating in the Truce, even tho my German grandfather was having a Christmas with British, and my Russian Grandfather with Germans, they did enjoy it as their last, but both came back home, and infact, both had a good contact with the guys they had the Christmas with, this song motivates me and also gives me a Christmas Spirit, i am really thankful for the peace not to countries but the citizens of it, that people realize that even on the other end of this blue globe, there's people just like us, Thank you. This sort of thing is just what makes Sabaton so special. As time goes on, fewer and fewer people care about the histories of nations and the wars that were fought. Sabaton immortalizes these events in their songs so that even when the history books eventually forget, fans of Sabaton never will.
My autistic 10yo isn't into music, but came across this video while hyper focusing on World War 1 and 2. They love your music and have found a love for Scandinavian metal music. Thank you 🎶 😃
What I find hardest to believe about this story is that they went back to war afterwards. I'm not surprised at all that they could have peace for Christmas, but imagine how hard it was for the first soldier to shoot someone he'd been singing and playing with just an hour before. Brilliant song, excellent video, though.
Those involved were often reprimanded and/or transferred somewhere else on the front (or in the case of Germans, to the Eastern Front). Superiors were not too happy about the christmas truces. Plus by the next winter, too much had happend from both sides to simply repeat the gesture.
It just goes to show, no matter what part of the world we live in, the bottom line remains the same, we're all human and even enemies at war with each other, are able to show compassion even if it's just for 24 hours.
A time where a true miracle happened that shows if we would take time to talk to one another to find common ground war would not be necessary or needed 😢
It will be 107 years since an event that not even a Pope could not sway a truce on Christmas from either side, but the men in those muddy trenches for a moment in time, were able to put aside the war and the fact that they were the enemy. And were able to come together as equals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Although sadly not all of the fighting had stopped within the trenches since on some parts of the No Man’s Land shells and bullets from both sides were sent flying across the land. But for the men who refused to fight on those two days. They did something that many in the world that time thought would be impossible to do. Were able to put down their weapons and come out and meet in the middle in a land scarred by war to celebrate Christmas. That there is a true Christmas Miracle.
One of the best and most emotional songs ever written for me! Just heartbreaking. Thank you, Sabaton. You're my motivation to learn everything from the past!
This is probably the first song that I have listened to, from you guys, that tore me up emotionally. The entire story conveyed is so heavy and full of dread and sorrow, but yet, amidst the horrors of trench warfare, the death and miserable conditions, to hear how both sides just, stopped fighting, for a short time, to acknowledge that they are human, and that they miss home, still makes me cry. Fills me with hope that maybe, maybe the world isn't so dark sometimes. Thank you Sabaton, all of you, for the amazing music, and memories. I hope one day to see you guys live, no matter the cost, you guys truly are probably my favorite band.
I'll never understand the hatred and needless ordeal of spilling blood when we're all humans. To see something like this happen is a astonishing and miracle, but to turn around a go to back to the killing saddens me. Truly a happy and saddening moment all in one.
Yarnhub's artwork + sabaton's music =perfection. Plus this song is just about the only Christmas song my dad actually LIKES (cause it's sabaton, they don't do cheesy!)
@@averagefnfplayer990 he is that. It was him that got me into rock and metal so I never get told "turn that racket down" get told to turn it up though...especially ghost division!
this is one of my favorite and probably most revered story in war. the time when people could actually show humanity under the worst circumstances. the first time i heard it over a decade ago. the song if silent night sung in different languages and the opposing sides playing games without bullets. this was what christmas should represent. the gift of humanity rather then what is so often shown.
The story of the Christmas truce holds a very near and dear place in my heart. In the madness of the Great War, the common soldiers defied commands and laid down their weapons. If only it wasn't as unique, the world might be a better place. A time of year where all can agree we can stop fighting if only for a day.
It's a nice reference too because in his memoirs Hitler (who was not in the part of the front where the Truce happened but heard of it later) was quite vocal in his opposition to any fraternisaton between opposing soldiers.
Whenever people ask me why i love the winter, i bring up this story as 1 of the reasons. Also heard that after that they had to replace the soldiers that celebrated christmas with eachother even tho their countries were at war because the soldiers refused to shoot eachother after
Since I was a child I have been very fond of history, of war, and it has been my object of study and reading for about 13 years, since I learned to read. Today, in my 20s, the lines "And we were used to the violence" and "We walk among our friends. We don't think about tomorrow. The battle will commence" brought tears to my eyes, because they reminded me again what one forgets so much when studying military strategies and tactics, war is cruel to all and kind to very few, it is the common people like you and me who pay the price for the rulers of the world, for as Machiavelli would say "The same thing that causes a quarrel between neighbors causes a war between princes".
This truce was possible because they knew each other, they surely have their difference and wore fighting over it, yet after many days of fighting that did go anywhere they realise that the other side was just like them and they all wanted a break from all that fight that barely got anywhere. So Christmas was just the catalyser need for a brief truce to happen.
The thing I like most about this animation is that it makes it feel like the truce began organically and slowly. Soldiers slowly putting aside their months of fear to trust the man on the other side.
I laughed,… then I cried. Because we *did* forget. We’ll never see anything like this ever again. Thank you Sabaton and Yarnhub for bringing this amazingly beautiful moment in time to life. ❤️ My hope is that this song becomes as legendary as “Silent Night”, “Jingle Bells”, “Oh Holy Night”, “Carol of the Bells” 🤘❤️ Never forget *MERRY CHRISTMAS* to all 🎄❤️🤘
Same, it’s one of my favorite songs from Sabaton. I had some tears coming out while watching this amazing video and listening to this amazing song. I say the best part of this video is hearing that amazing quote from the young soldier “I wouldn’t have missed it for the most gorgeous Christmas dinner in England”
*I can imagine at the end, modern day soldiers of Germany, UK, France, Austria, Hungary, Russia and other saluting one another while remembering the moment their soldiers stopped fighting so they can have a moment of peace on that single holiday.*
It is hard to believe such miracles can happen, soldiers of both sides, joining side to side to eachother to celebrate holiday. 1 second they were killing eachother, other second cherting together. It is horrifying that after truce they went back to killing eachother.
Marry Christmas!
I just loved that hitler addition, historically hitler (corporal at that time) refused the request of his troops to join the carols that was sang just like he refused to leave the trenches in the morning
Nice detail with that scene showcasing corporal Hitler in 6:14. Hitler wrote in his diary he was disgusted by the fraternization that ocurred in the Christmas truce.
There are few Sabaton songs I want to here as orchestral version but this one is at the top of the list! I also want to hear a crowd singing the chorus in a concert.
Because it was a one and done deal, they tried it again the next year but were reprimanded and some officers executed troops for it. The Russians even attempted it hearing that it was successful in the Western Front but they were gunned down because the Germans were confused. The issue was the Russian calendar is different from the German one so the dates were like a week off or something.
You have made millions of people cry and connect with one story that really happened. In the Czech Republic, this song is played every day on RockZone and Rock radio. And I've got a lot to do to keep from crying in front of people. It's really emotional. I wish your band, all metalheads and people of good will a Merry Christmas and lots of snow.
6:14 Is that supposed to be * angry german Mustache man * ? If yes then it is great detail in this video. If you know the man I am talking about then this is very accurate. He was present during the truce and hated it ! Great job Yarnhub ! You are amazing !
Angry German mustache man: "no you're supposed to be killing each other not having fun and being friends just because it's Christmas" The soldiers: "haha merry Christmas friends and brothers"
ngl, this made me unironically sad. at first i cried when i researched the lyrics, but the whole song with this animation? pure tears of pity and sadness.
The animation and the narration at the beginning makes the song feel even more organic which I didn't think was possible. Definetly one of my favorite Sabaton songs. Also the higher ups reporting what was going on and one of the British captains writing down the names of those who were 'fraternizing' is pretty sad
This video really made my soul shiver thinking at that. I also love how Yarn Hub p8cked some details from Sabaton music video like the members of the band scrambled to both sides
Even in such terrible times like WW1, people can always somehow show their humanity. This can show that we aren't bound by commands, but by free will. These soldiers showed it greatly. It's rather a miracle really
Hermoso, otra vez, volví a llorar.
I almost want to cry, how this all happened, beautiful, really shows how we are all the same, all people with families, friends, and our own history. Thank you to both Yarn Hub and Sabaton, and Merry Christmas guys ❤️🎄
Merry Christmas from America, even though we hadn’t joined the war yet I still enjoy it. It is a time when nations who hated each other for eight months and had bleed in the trenches had a moment of humanity and fun among adversaries.
and once again Sabaton has brought me to tears, thought i could make it through the whole thing, as soon as they started snapping pictures and it kicked in with "A Christmas on the frontline, we walk among our friends " i couldnt hold the waterworks, if only they'd been allowed to continue to walk among their newfound friends, maybe things would have turned out different.

Those involved were often reprimanded and/or transferred somewhere else on the front (or in the case of Germans, to the Eastern Front). Superiors were not too happy about the christmas truces.
Plus by the next winter, too much had happend from both sides to simply repeat the gesture.
It sadly is something we have a word for, fraternization with the enemy, and its normally reprimanded, esp. after christmas truce....
A lot of them refused to fight afterwards.
If this song doesn't become a classic, then the music scene is truly stagnant. This song moved into my top 20. Honest!!
Truly a wonderful Christmas gift from Sabaton
I'll never understand the hatred and needless ordeal of spilling blood when we're all humans. To see something like this happen is a astonishing and miracle, but to turn around a go to back to the killing saddens me. Truly a happy and saddening moment all in one.
A lot of the men refused to continue fighting and were transferred or even killed by their superiors.
This song makes me tear up,the truce was the only light moment in a never ending war
Yeah, that’s why I love Christmas
In such horrendous situation, humanity's capability for good still shines through. Thank you guys, and merry christmas. Greetings from Chile.

Yarnhub and sabaton should do a remake of every sabaton song ever. Love both of yall!
Yarnhub's artwork + sabaton's music =perfection.
Plus this song is just about the only Christmas song my dad actually LIKES (cause it's sabaton, they don't do cheesy!)

Snoopys Christmas is also pretty decent and was my favourite until I heard this song
@@tacogod968 think I know that 1. Royal guardsmen? Or am I getting my snoopy songs mixed up?
this is one of my favorite and probably most revered story in war. the time when people could actually show humanity under the worst circumstances. the first time i heard it over a decade ago. the song if silent night sung in different languages and the opposing sides playing games without bullets. this was what christmas should represent. the gift of humanity rather then what is so often shown.
The story of the Christmas truce holds a very near and dear place in my heart. In the madness of the Great War, the common soldiers defied commands and laid down their weapons.
If only it wasn't as unique, the world might be a better place. A time of year where all can agree we can stop fighting if only for a day.
Sabaton + football + friendship = The Best Christmas gift. Thanks!!
Hitler being bitter about the christmas truce is the funniest thing to me for no reason
It's a nice reference too because in his memoirs Hitler (who was not in the part of the front where the Truce happened but heard of it later) was quite vocal in his opposition to any fraternisaton between opposing soldiers.
Maybe he got jealous lol
He was there and he did hate it, that is historically documented.
In a world filled with misery and uncertainty, it is a great comfort to know that, in the end, there is light in the darkness.
I laughed,… then I cried. Because we *did* forget. We’ll never see anything like this ever again.
Thank you Sabaton and Yarnhub for bringing this amazingly beautiful moment in time to life. ❤️
My hope is that this song becomes as legendary as “Silent Night”, “Jingle Bells”, “Oh Holy Night”, “Carol of the Bells”
🤘❤️ Never forget
*MERRY CHRISTMAS* to all 🎄❤️🤘
Merry Christmas, you guys. And thank you so much for this beautiful heart-breaking, heart-warming song. Even though I cry every time I hear it.
Thanks for your appreciation
I have listened to this song so many times now, but EVERY single time it gives me goosebumps... love it man, love it
This is probably my favorite Sabaton song because it helps remind that there’s still some hope for humanity
Austria-Hungary and Russia celebrated Christmas at different dates lol
December 25th, 1914 was not a quiet day in the east
These events in history are what make me believe no matter how dark, morbid, and twisted the times get. We will never lose our humanity.
What do Russians think about the relations between Russia and Ukraine? What would you say to a Russian attack on Ukraine?
@@0000-z4z No, I will think that this is some kind of bullshit
thank you
thank you
It is hard to believe such miracles can happen, soldiers of both sides, joining side to side to eachother to celebrate holiday.
I've only been waiting ages for this animation! The Truce is such a beautiful moment! I'm tearing up just in the intro
As soon as I saw Joakim playing in the trenches in the original video, I wanted to see Sabaton and TSO play together...
@@BaronSengir1008 That would be extremely epic!
Yes
Merry Christmas
This brought tears to the eyes, and joy to the mind. This video is going to be part of my holiday tradition now. Thank you.
I cried manly tears. No more wars of brothers. Merry Christmas to all my english, french and scothis mates. Greetings from germany
Why does it make me cry? Because it is so heartbreaking!
@@GremlinHunter Yep, the Russian Orthodox Christmas is in January, I believe
@@LordVader1094 Yeah and they also attempted an Easter Truce I do believe? Don't quote me on that though.

Is that supposed to be * angry german Mustache man * ? If yes then it is great detail in this video.
If you know the man I am talking about then this is very accurate. He was present during the truce and hated it ! Great job Yarnhub ! You are amazing !
Yes that is who that is.
Yes. It is reported that he was there for this.....and he HATED it.

The detail in Yarnhubs animation is awesome!
Angry German mustache man: "no you're supposed to be killing each other not having fun and being friends just because it's Christmas"
The soldiers: "haha merry Christmas friends and brothers"

Angry mustache man was even an Idiot before he was into politics. What a suprise !
From women flying to men playing soccer thanks sabaton for this journey through time.. we remember those 🎗️
I was smiling during the whole thing, but I visibly started laughing when I saw Hitler being a scrooge.
ngl, this made me unironically sad. at first i cried when i researched the lyrics, but the whole song with this animation? pure tears of pity and sadness.
I've been waiting another one of these! Night Witches and No Bullets Fly were awesome!
Brings tears to my eyes every time. 😢

And in an alternate timeline, perhaps this truce was just the first in a wave of truces that would end the war in early 1915.
Wonderful. Touching story. Greetings from Poland. Merry Christmas and happy New Year for all Sabaton's family 😁
Thank you, Sabaton, Kamila super
I dunno why. But the first time I heard the piano, I started to cry even without the lyrics. I cried again, now, watching the video.
Even in such terrible times like WW1, people can always somehow show their humanity. This can show that we aren't bound by commands, but by free will. These soldiers showed it greatly. It's rather a miracle really
Hermoso, otra vez, volví a llorar.

all jokes aside this is the most emotional music and historical moment a true man can cry to this song with no shame.

I was hoping you would make an animated story video of the Christmas truce 🤘

and once again Sabaton has brought me to tears, thought i could make it through the whole thing, as soon as they started snapping pictures and it kicked in with "A Christmas on the frontline, we walk among our friends " i couldnt hold the waterworks, if only they'd been allowed to continue to walk among their newfound friends, maybe things would have turned out different.
This is litterally not only the only Christmas song that doesn't make me feel depressed but this is the most loght hearted video i have seen all year
