Back in the day I installed the Mamba Monster 6s combo on my slash 4x4, it was a blast but I began to break a lot more parts, especially in the drivetrain, and I've had to upgrade a bunch of stuff. After that I've learned to be satisfied with the stock power and focused my mods on durability and handling
I’ve had to spend at least $2-300 in the past few years on just maintenance and durability upgrades to handle the power. Stock is DEFINITELY easier to work with!
I put the same system in my 2wd Slash and it's freaking crazy on 6s it won't stop pulling wheelies and I balded a good set of tires in 6 months flat Update: I got the LCG chassis conversion and the ESC won't fit in its designated spot due to the motor wires being too short, what type of plugs does it use?
Amazing video that also would be insane if you put that stock traxxas motor in the sandy land and also i bet even on that small jump at the park you could get a backflip that thing is powerful. Great video!!!
I have a tip to keep that thing from wheeling over. So I have a Traxxas Rustler 4-wheel drive VXL And what I did Was put a stampede bumper and wheelie bar on it and it's adjustable and way better. Oh and I forgot to mention It doesn't flex around and it keeps the back of the body from getting damaged as severely
I ended up getting a Hoss wheelie bar. It’s a WAY better design than the stock one. Better mounted, better at stopping wheelies, stronger, etc. Shame they don’t make them with it!
Hey it’s me RjRyanYT I got some copyright issues on my other channel so I made this one. Tried finding your Channel to sub again and I finally did lol.

You need to get the tekno big bone drive shaft that stocker causing over heating and is hollow and gets warped I had that happen from all jumping and hard hits
Have you thought of mounting the ESC just before the shock Tower in the front on that flat section the wires look long enough that would get the air flow into the ESC and motor and balance out better. That's why the wires are long...
I Have a Rustler 4x4 fitted with a castle 2200kv, and smashrc is 100% right that your diffs, CVD shafts, and wheel hexes will be shredded pretty soon. When you upgrade your hexes you may then shred the inside of your tire rim.
@@coltongilmore1130 The front diff went out after a few runs with the 2200 Castle. I switched to XO-1 front/rear differentials and it hasn’t been an issue since.

Not for me! I’ve owned it for almost 2 years, and I’ve abused it almost daily, but I’ve only ever broken 3 driveshafts. I briefly had an issue with spur gears shearing, but I discovered that it was because I had killed a motor bearing. Once I fixed it, it was good as new! I would guess that if you do tons of hard jumps on concrete, you’d probably break a lot more, but generally I think most stories of it breaking a ton are greatly exaggerated for a warranty claim.
Nice video!, i´d like to see what speed it reaches by installing this kit on a Losi Tenacity for example or on the ZD Racing Thunder, it must be crazy...
It's going to be a challenge shoehorning that motor into the Sandyland. You can easily mount the motor with a WLtoys A979b motor mount, but I believe the motor will be too close to the center drive shaft because the gears are too small.
I'm getting frustrated with 1/18 scale cars. They break a lot and they're hard to control. My latest car is a WLtoys 124019. It's 1/12 scale and would fit your Traxxas motor quite nicely. TH-cam it.
I’ve adjusted enough gear meshes that I’m able to sort of just eyeball it. The gears should be as close as possible while still having enough play that you can click them back and forth a bit. Some people use the “paper trick” where you put a piece of paper between the gears and press them together to get the right distance. I’ve found that it generally gives them a tiny bit too much space, but it’s a good starting point. I also tightened the bolt down like crazy to keep it from moving.
I have had the 4x4 rustler since the day it was released I have spent well over $1000 on up grades drive shafts are the weakest parts and it would be faster with a 21 tooth pinion gear and 50 spur gear
Does that fit? I just hooked up a max8 g2 to mine and the only gearing that fit was 25 50(that I had available) and I need to gear down cause it is way overpowered, I have yet to hit max throttle and it goes like 60 at 75%
I’ve got the Velcro glued into the car, and then it loops around the batteries to hold them in. If you wanted it more secure, you could consider drilling into the chassis and screwing the velcro down (being careful to not scratch the batteries with the screw sticking out). I can’t really think of another way to get 2 batteries into the factory spot. The stock battery hold down won’t fit over them. I suppose you could 3D print an extension, but velcro is definitely cheaper and stronger.
If I change my motor and ESC like you did, how do I bind the Traxxas remote to the new Spectrum Firm ESC? For some reason it isn't working? It won't allow me to calibrate it either?
You have to be sure that it’s plugged into the right spots. The esc should be plugged into channel 1 I believe. If you accidentally put it in the wrong one, it won’t work.
@@CHEESEBURGERRC You were exactly right man! I had the plugs in backwards which is why it wasn't working. Thanks for your quick response. Will be subscribing.
One more question, Do I need to get a upgraded slipper clutch because I got the same motor, pinion etc as you and when i would try to drive it, it would grind the slipper clutch and today when driving it for the first time, it stripped the slipper clutch. If you didn't get a upgrade for the slipper clutch could you send me a link to the pinion you got and if you need a upgrade on the slipper clutch, could you send me a link to that one? Thanks!
By “grinding the slipper clutch” do you mean the gear is stripping? Or are the clutch pads wearing out? If the gear is stripping, it means you probably have a bad mesh. The fixed mesh adapter has some problems, and I had a bit of shearing with mine too. If you set the mesh manually and make sure all the screws are tight, that should fix it! If the pads are wearing out, it probably means the clutch is too loose. From the factory, it’s meant for a 3s system, so you’ll definitely want to tighten it down for 6s. I would definitely recommend upgrading it to a center diff soon though. The slipper clutch and the plastic spur gears are definitely not meant for 6s. I use the Traxxas center diff, and it’s much tougher than the slipper clutch. If you’re shearing teeth on the gear under regular driving conditions though, definitely fix that first. Installing a tougher center diff will fix it temporarily, but the problem will still be there, and will only get worse. I hope this helps!
I got the same truck.with mamba 2200kv about same size as your upgrade motor but my pinion gear is bigger esc set up for 6s but its tight and grinds so bad with plastic spur what spur gear will my erevo.spur work
If the gears are grinding, it’s probably a bad mesh. Upgrading the gear won’t help that, and can even make it worse because it’ll damage the motor instead of the gear! I’d recommend adjusting your mesh first before upgrading your spur.
Ooh that’s a hard one... I’d say probably the best one for me was the bearings because it makes the car way faster, but I don’t know for sure how much of a difference bearings would make with the stock motor. The Latrax Teton tires definitely make a big difference in grip compared to stock (for general and off road bashing. They’re not as fast as the street tires), so those are good too. I’d say get the bearings and tires, and try to get a brushless system later on.
Metal drive shaft is good but id rather have a plastic one to twist an give out before the front or rear differential which takes more time to replace or fix an money.. drive shafts to the differential cheap just personal opinion
I got one of the same from Robinson racing 12T. How did the glue gun lol hold up under the esc and was that the only idea u came up for it. I’m wondering if I can buy the carbon fiber tray for the hw esc and if the motor will still fit. I’m doing the same exact set up but I want it done right haha
2 years later the hot glue is still holding strong! I think my 12t may actually be a Robinson racing one but I’d have to check. It definitely sounds familiar!
But yeah you could definitely rig up a tray if you really wanted to. You’d probably have to drill some new holes though because the stock ones will likely be too close.
The best I’ve done is 55 on the setup shown in this video. That was on a fairly short stretch of wet pavement though, so you could probably get a few mph more if you have a good place to do it!

Hi! I’ve had a mostly good experience with it. Not surprisingly, I’ve had to replace the tires, driveshafts, and the slipper clutch with tougher parts. I’ve also had to upgrade some other parts like wheel carriers so they’d survive the harder crashes. I suspect you’d probably have to do the same stuff with a 4s combo, so you may as well go for 6s if you want it!
Eww, hot glue? For SHAME.... FOR SHAME!! Lol naa, I have used probably half an 18 wheeler full of hot glue on projects, and it certainly is quick and easy if you're in a hurry. For this though I'd drill a couple small holes and use some small bolts and nuts with a little layer of RTV through the hole and around the bolt head and nut, don't tighten it all the way until the RTV cures a bit to keep pressure from squeezing it out and creating more points for potential leaks.
In theory, I could go 17t and still have a ton of torque, but that might be a bit overkill. I might go 14t, but I’m thinking I’ll instead just give it some big tires.
Sure! I got mine at my hobby shop, but I’m pretty sure this is the link: www.hobbytown.com/robinson-racing-extra-hard-steel-mod1-pinion-gear-w-5mm-bore-11t-rrp1211/p454463?v=25017
On this setup, my top speed was 51 on wet pavement. Since making this though, I’ve geared it up and given it bigger tires, so the new speed is probably even more!
Hot glue, are you just doing circles in the driveway. No way will that stay if your bashing it. You need to adjust your gearing to compensate for the kv and voltage differences. It looks slower than stock in your video except it has loads more torque
You’re right! It was not at all efficient in this video. Since making it, I’ve geared it up, added bigger tires, and given it metal driveshafts. Now it works great!
In some cases yes, but not here. It basically acts like gearing the car up, so with the stock motor, it might get overloaded which would make it slower, but with the upgraded motor, it makes it into a rocket!
That looks pretty nice! You may want some new driveshafts if you’re running belted tires! Also, is that a 6s 2wd rustler I see? Because that thing will be nuts!

@@CHEESEBURGERRC hi again so do you have
more bad Or good experiences with the combo after that time? It seem to be a bit too much in 6s but this combo on 4s with the Rustler could be really interesting…
Sandy land has no chance
Lol we probably won’t run the Rustler on 6s for that😂
Eww, hot glue? For SHAME.... FOR SHAME!!
Lol naa, I have used probably half an 18 wheeler full of hot glue on projects, and it certainly is quick and easy if you're in a hurry. For this though I'd drill a couple small holes and use some small bolts and nuts with a little layer of RTV through the hole and around the bolt head and nut, don't tighten it all the way until the RTV cures a bit to keep pressure from squeezing it out and creating more points for potential leaks.
I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll have to give it a try once the hot glue fails! (It’s definitely getting close - very wiggly.) Thanks for the tip!
what gearing you thinking youl go?
In theory, I could go 17t and still have a ton of torque, but that might be a bit overkill. I might go 14t, but I’m thinking I’ll instead just give it some big tires.
Do you know what size bore pinion you need is it 8mm?
It’s a 5mm bore.
Can you send me a link to the gear that you bought? Plz
Sure! I got mine at my hobby shop, but I’m pretty sure this is the link: www.hobbytown.com/robinson-racing-extra-hard-steel-mod1-pinion-gear-w-5mm-bore-11t-rrp1211/p454463?v=25017
@@CHEESEBURGERRC thanks I got it ordered
@@zachspear5726 awesome!
What scale is that
1/10 scale car with a 1/8 scale motor
Can I have the vxl motor and ESC
What was your top speed???
On this setup, my top speed was 51 on wet pavement. Since making this though, I’ve geared it up and given it bigger tires, so the new speed is probably even more!
WTF 😳
Same
Hot glue, are you just doing circles in the driveway.
Hot glue omg
Motor is 4274
VERY jealous of your curbs.... Mine will destroy any sized RC
Bigger tires will make it slower
In some cases yes, but not here. It basically acts like gearing the car up, so with the stock motor, it might get overloaded which would make it slower, but with the upgraded motor, it makes it into a rocket!
hey check mine out the best rusty 4x4 6s big tires
That looks pretty nice! You may want some new driveshafts if you’re running belted tires!
Also, is that a 6s 2wd rustler I see? Because that thing will be nuts!
Yes sir it is I upgraded the 4x4 to the Rpm shafts they work perfect plus there thick and tuff and thanks
Hi
Hello!
Try cleaning it first b4 vid.
Nvm
Bro uses a whole bottle of tire glue per wheel and buys hot glue by the crates. Please use double sided tape and some proper adhesive or I'll call the authorities for toy abuse.
send it lol
Haha very soon!
🤯🤮
Nice upgrades! Innovative. But dude clean your cars lol, and maybe care a tad more about craftsmanship lol
