Just a small update for everyone. As of OLP version 1.2.0 Beta, OPL will now support exFAT, meaning from here on (with any luck and better updates in the future) you can now run all your 4gb+ games off of your USB/MX4ISO micro sd adapter WITHOUT having to split them up into smaller chunks.

After your latest modchat about PS2 I thought I gotta update my ancient OPL build someday, but it would take me probably couple of months to get around doing that by myself. This is gonna make stuff much easier.

How do you get high quality video out of your PS2 as shown in the video? I've a PS2 TO HDMI dongle and component cables. Neither of them look as good as yours.
I would like to see a tutorial on how to play PS2 games through SMB if it's worth playing that way? I don't have a HDD and USB games results in slow down during FMVs
Yeah playing ps2 games with SMB is fast as playing with internal HDD but the thing is when ever windows 10 updated for me it always screws up the settings always!
Project Phoenix Media has some tutorials. Here is one for Windows 10 th-cam.com/video/Yk6ps8jTSxY/w-d-xo.html I use SMB and the quality is mostly pretty awesome, though there are still a few games (like Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne) that have some stutter / skipping during cutscenes. Though I'm using old ass OPL 0.9.3.
The last 'final/stable' version of the 'OPL' application dates back to 2021, and there is a beta version from August 2023. The problem with beta versions is that they are generally considered potentially unstable or buggy. Regarding OPL, I don't know, but which of the two OPL versions would you recommend and why? I only use PAL format games." Please let me know if I have mistranslated anything or if the meaning is unclear. I tried to convey the essence of your question about whether to use the 2021 stable release or 2023 beta release of OPL, given that beta software can be unstable, but you are unsure of the specifics regarding OPL. I also included the context that you only use PAL format games.
How do I install this OPL directly to the HD? The OPL folder on my HD says +OL and there are no ELFs inside. (Also the games start fine, but keep Crashing once I get deeper)
The only issue I came across was an issue where my ps2 would not start. The free mcboot logo would appear and freeze. Do not panic. I was able to determine that the PS2 did not like the USB stick I chose to use. If this happens, go through the process using a different USB stick and that should resolve the issue.
What are the benefits of the nightly OPL builds vs 0.9.3? OPL 0.9.3 mostly works great for me but there are a few games where for instance I get a bit of stutter or skipping in cutscenes (for example, in Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne). I'm sharing the roms from my PC over ethernet to my PS2, with the roms on a dedicated hard drive not used for anything else. Is that the kind of thing that maybe new OPL builds are able to smooth out?
The issue I'm having with some few games is that either they don't work with virtual memory cards or they freeze after some minutes of gameplay. Fortunately, they are just about a couple of games, not really a crippling issue to consider discarding good ole OPL 0.9.3 for good.
Updating OPL makes it no longer show my usb games, and i have no idea why. I've checked the settings there's nothing in USB Prefix, and USB Device Start Mode is Auto. I do see my APPS but running them doesn't work.
The Problem with all of the new OPL is that they are focused on features not output resolution. Most of the output resolutions are funky, and many HD tv's do not like them. The PS4 controller option can only be used once a game is started, you still have to use a ps2 controller to navigate to OPL and then to a game unless you have a Brooks adapter. Some OPL output games in 1080i and 1080p.
I really don't like OPL, nor GS Mode Selector handling the video output of any of my games. I rather use the widescreen and progressive scan options of any games that have them included as standard. No videogame company developed PS2 games that could output 1080p. And the only games that supported 1080i were Jackass The Game, Valkyrie Profile Silmeria, Gran Turismo 4 and Tourist Trophy. Any other game that supported progressive scan would do it at 480p.
every time that i try to update OPL it does work and i can use it but the moment I load into a game that i am playing and restart the console it crashes funtuna from the memory card. I had to reinstall funtuna using FreeDVD boot and copying the file over.. it says to overwrite it everytime so i assume that it is still installed just crashing when attempting to load into funtuna. Funtuna and OPL works after reinstalling. but OPL is still not updated. i have attempted this 5 times with 2 separate update files.
Dunno if you can help. my OPL was in a different folder but was running fine. I had to change it's name on the ps2 to OPL, then overwrite it. The update worked but there is no OPL on my home page now. Can only access it through ulaunchelf
