awesome video hey just wondering if you would be able to do an in-depth review and test drive the basic corolla considering its like one of the most common cars on the roads today i know you did a few on the old channel but it would be amazing if we had a in-depth one
Was torn between the Nissan Z (loved the test drive and in manual guise) and this Supra, that is, until I took it for a test drive along Nepean Hwy. As I love to drive with the windows down, the sudden onslaught of wind buffeting was horrendous. Even my partner baulked at the punishment we were enduring at a steady 80kph!! Deal breaker for us. We love our Z..with the windows down especially.
Gosh it’s good to hear a performance in-line 6 again. It would be amazing to have engines like this available as an option in utes & Ute based SUVs. Brett also must be pretty close to a national record for unread text messages at 361 - goddam 😮
I love the new Supra, all it needed was a manual and now it has one. Maybe not that one tho, it had a bit of a rough run-in period haha ;) Thanks Brett, another great review.
Love your Vids Brett. Every time I watch the car channels on my feed and see them getting hammered etc I think how they get sold as "demo" cars and advertised as "dealer principal or executive driven" and shit like that to the unsuspecting public when in reality they've been flogged by God knows who.. I don't think it's worth a couple of grand savings when you've got no idea at all how it's been treated in the early stages of its life where they're supposed to be driven conservatively or like you do in normal day to day commuting. What's your thoughts on that Brett? Seems like the dealer DGAF lending a car out like this supra with bugger all Kays knowing it's going to be performance tested and driven reasonably hard..
I’d be going with the manual 2 series, same engine, plus you get two seats in the back. Or a cheaper, yet equally as capable Stinger GT (even without having a manual only spec as you can still drive it in manual mode - similar performance and cheaper).
Good point, but with this you get Toyota’s warranty - I’d rather be chasing up any faults with Toyota than BMW haha (I own a BMW - I know what they are like). This is more together and a better driver’s car than the Stinger in my opinion (different category of car of course). Much better chassis dynamics and rigidity in this, and a lot more predictable. I’ve experienced an overheating gearbox in two seperate Stingers. Great cruising car though and superb value, but not on the same level for pure driving enthusiasts in my opinion.
@@drivingenthusiastaustralia I actually agree with you. I own a 2024 M340i, and that engine is simply amazing as for the first time out of 30 plus cars I’ve stuck with the same car as I traded in a 2020 M340i. Whilst I’d love an M240i with a manual transmission, it’s simply too small for what I need as a daily. Owned a previous Supra, with the old inline 6 turbo from new in the 90’s and that at the time was also a great car as it did have seats in the back.
I could actually live with almost all the fake vents save for those on the doors and the hood. They look really stupid. It angers me, because without all those stupid wannabe plastic pieces the Supra would look fantastic. I´m in the market for a 70-80k sports coupe, and I will probably get the A110. I prefer the Supra´s every day livavility, but those tacky vents are something I couldn´t stop looking at every time I entered my garage.
That would be awesome but if Toyota had to use their own engine it would probably just end up as the Turbo V6 that's in some Lexus which is ok but probably a bit boring in comparison. If they are going to use someone else's engine the BMW B58 is certainly the best one they could choose. BMW get a lot of things wrong (especially these days), but they do know how to make a great straight six and it's easily up there with the old 2JZ in tuning potential. Also unlike the old Mk4 Supra, this is quite decent even as standard car, the old Supra's are a bit dull as standard cars, they are only desired because of their tuning potential.
Problem is is that engine is open deck and doesn't like power unless extensive changes are done along with strengthing parts will be needed to handle any real power out of them that boosting them isn't really worth it because the gains wouldn't be big at all unless alot of money is poured into them, and even then, they are still ticking time bombs either way. It's just easier with the B58 because it can make the power much easier and faster than a 2gr because it's stronger and all around easier to get power out of.
Correction: At 0:27, the spec box incorrectly says 'GTS'. It's actually a GT grade. Apologies for the confusion.
How good is waking up to yet another new Driving Enthusiast clip! You're spoiling us once again and we appreciate the hard work.
Great review. Well done, mate!
Thanks!
Good reviews. You have come along way friend
Thanks 🙏
Awesome 0-100 for a rear wheel drive manual. Impressive driving.
Not really.
My man said "fuck the required manual-specified 1,200 mile break in period"
wank anyway

I'd take the z over the supra because the supra is really a BMW. I'll have Toyota build quality and reliability anyday

This Zupr4 is made in Austria (like the Z4) not even by BMW

😅 it’ll be fine. Run-in has been fast-tracked.
@@drivingenthusiastaustralia it's a public service, I like your style ;)
The fake vents are because this was based on the Toyota FT-1 concept car

Toyota don't need this car to make money , thank God it exists in this world of cookie cutter cars.

@@marcusgeorge1825 Nice. M340i is outstanding. I've always loved the M240i as well. A manual one would be awesome. Neat and tidy little coupe.
G87 M2 next mate.😎
I’ll see if I can get one sorted 👍
The manual transmission is toyota.
People don’t know the Supra has a de-tuned version of the B58 engine. It’s obviously to make it more reliable.
No it doesn't.
The B58 is a reliable engine something bmw got right otherwise toyota wouldn't use such an engine.
Interesting that the AU GR Supra gets different wheels than the rest of the world. Those look like a bigger version of the Supra 2.0 wheels.
Like you said. It's not run in.
Needs 2k more kms.

Even quicker than a V8 Commodore.
Couldn't Toyota have developed their own engine?
Basically 2 GR Yaris engines as a straight 6 ❤🔥

Gr Yaris makes more sense to me than this
Fair enough. Great car as well. Especially if you need back seats.
Such an ugle interior especially the steering wheel , but still def one of my dream cars . Manual, rwd turbo .ftw
That is one ugly car !
