Good race, I am not sure how Michelin structures their tires but given the Supra's cornering figure I think it's Super Sports helped it hook up and maintain some proximity during braking and the turn around.
Super Sports are old tires. They are from 2014 - so several generations back at this point. While the Pilot Sport 4S is the latest offering from Michelin. For context, the Super Sports were factoring equipment on the C7 Corvette, while the Pilot Sport 4s is factory equipment on the C8 Z51. Also, the tire size was a mistake, Supras come with 255f/275r tires, not the 345mm claimed in the video (you can check TireRack to confirm). Given how old the tire design is, that 1.45g in the corner is insane. Moderns Sport Cup 2s would probably put it in the neighborhood of 1.60gs
@@BrianBeckman yeah I still see the Super Sport ZP's for sale on TireRack so curious if any changes were made to it over the years. I did recognize the error in sizing but there is no denying that whatever the Supra is doing it is able to hook up well and corner superbly (though weight likely helps a bit in both respects).
The PS4S is a better tire, I wouldn’t put too much thought into their “u-drag” test since it’s not very objective. The Supra is a little lighter and the M2’s ride height is too high from factory, lowered on KW V3 I have much less body roll
When BMW designed that 3.0 I-6 with collaboration with Toyota, BMW wasn’t gunna be that stupid to give their rival better performance. Toyota really should’ve came up with their own powertrain for the Supra.
I don't think it's like that. It's just the M2 has the S58 and Supra has the B58. The Supra outperforms the Z4, so it's not BMW trying to make the Supra worse. If Toyota designed a new I6 for the Supra, it would have been another financial disaster like the MKIV and only appreciated after it's discontinued.
I really like the M2 styling more and adding 20 more hp in 25 too. Although if they were to put that engine in the Supra it would be a beast. Heard they may offer x-drive for the M2 in 26 which would be awesome, but if it costs much more than the new one IDK.
These are the best races vs straight line. You get a chance to see how well straight line and cornering performs on cars. If that Supra was fine with even horsepower and torque, it would have won. Supra still didn't do bad.
What was the purpose of this race. The result was very much obvious and it cannot be changed until or unless the driver really messed it in m2 .M2 is in different segment in sports car category THE RACE Should be between supra and m240i or m340i
auto vs auto would be an interesting race as well. feel like the 8 speed really takes the s58 to the next level. m2 is more nerfed with the manual when compared to Supra
Prices are not that similar. GR Supra 3.0 base is $54500 and the Premium is $58,550. The M2 starts @ $63k but if you want even basic luxuries like heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise you pay extra. And to unlock the full potential of the car you need to buy the "driver's performance package" for $2500 which basically unlocks the car's full potential and gives you a driving school ticket. Crazy thing is the Supra beats the M2 0-60 handily every time because of the weight difference. Also worth noting the Supra is a track beast, beating the M2 by over a second even with all the extra power on tap with the M2.
I could’ve told you who would win that just based on specs however where the supra comes into its own is on a circuit not just one turn but several turns especially in transitions. I’ve seen a few comparisons on the track between these two and the supra is a better car . In a straight line it’s obvious which has a better power to weight ratio , physics don’t lie. Plus $10,000 gets you a lot of goodies in the supra.
I think both of these can be had with autos, would like to see that. Just to take the driver equation out of it. Also the non 45th anniversary edition, is $60k, so that bmw is $15k more!!!!
BMW motors, especially M. Clearly map for higher boost in 3rd +. You can tell the engine is not fully uncorked until 3rd. It’s the same for every BMW M
1.45gs in the corner - that's insane. And on ancient PSS tires. I think the only car to pull higher Gs in the U-Drags was the McLaren 720S (1.51gs). Even the 911 Turbo S only managed 1.24g.
Ok, a BWM Z4 hardtop (aka the Toyota Supra) vs the M2, remember Toyota turned the Supra into a sports car for this gen, one wonders if a Supra based 2 Series coupe would have made more sense
Believe it or not supra does have launch control but you have to have the car in manual, but this is only for the ones with the ZF-8 transmission to my knowledge
Jonathan.... the Supra is not an inline 6 anymore... it's a b58 BMW V-6... so definitely not a spiritual successor of either the Z3 or the Supra MKIV... still a great car though.
Jesus, guys, come on now. 1. You dont prefer the gear ratios in the Supra because the ratios are identical to the M2. 2. The tire size on the Supra is completely wrong and is actually smaller, by some margin, to the M2. 3. The G87 M2 is only detuned on paper, the car dynos identically to the G80/82 M3/4 at 473 hp at the wheels. The reason why it spanked the Supra is it's simply a better performance car all around. The carbon package 6 speed weighs 3700 lbs with a full tank, its a little rocket.

I have a GR Supra premium . This video makes me want the M2 even more .
Supra with an S58 would be incredible. My brother owns a 2022 Supra, and it's such a great car. BMW really knows their stuff, and make some awesome cars. Wish I could drive an M2 or an M4.
Great race! I love both of these cars, but I lean to the GR Supra. :)
도요타 수프라 타이어 사이즈가 맞는 수치인가요?
I’m so glad the m2 won fairly convincingly…I’ve seen way too many people saying the Supra is basically as fast as
The 2021+ Supra is faster than the F series M2c/3/4, not G
@@rwac07 no it is not 😂
@@mogulme6190 I’ve had an F82, F80 M3C and the 22 Supra. I know through experience. There’s a video on Samcarlegion’s channel too if you refuse to believe it
that was closer than expected
I want to see z4 m40i vs supra
Speed?
M240 is the better matchup, and it will beat the Supra from a dig because of AWD. Also, the B58 is definitely underrated and dyno’s at around 406hp not the 382hp that BMW claims. I have a 2024 M240 and it’s a fantastic daily and very fast!
And yooo good call ain’t nobody actually own them act and sound like they know///////M2 all day//yall have fun in your whatever. Who knew we’d be in an era that bmw building Toyotas 😘
Next up M2 vs Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. Would be a great matchup. Caddy is faster 0-60, same quarter mile, but not as grippy as the M2 on the hairpin turn. Both manuals and cost about the same.
You should do the LCI M2 vs LCI M4 next, both manuals!!
U drag should had added a slalmom course. It way to power dependent. I like the Supra
Looks like you guys had fun
Very cool? Any Camaro ss?
When BMW designed that 3.0 I-6 with collaboration with Toyota, BMW wasn’t gunna be that stupid to give their rival better performance. Toyota really should’ve came up with their own powertrain for the Supra.
I don't think it's like that. It's just the M2 has the S58 and Supra has the B58. The Supra outperforms the Z4, so it's not BMW trying to make the Supra worse.
If Toyota designed a new I6 for the Supra, it would have been another financial disaster like the MKIV and only appreciated after it's discontinued.
Toyota is not gonna waste money on one car.
I’d love to see them add an actual handling type part of the course. Small slalom or something like that. Something instead of a U-turn.
I would take the regular Supra with ZF-8 speed please. Or hell a used C8 with z51 over either
Why are we here 😒😒😒 bmw vs bmw and bmw wins 🤦🏾
Becuase it’s fun to watch races, go to sleep buddy
@19hundoc47 hes not your buddy pal
345/25/21 tyres size on the supra is insane? Surely that can’t be right
Has any car lost the drag and beat the return?
How much the M2 ? To the suora is it same price? 453 hp to 385 hp it a big difference what about let do it same power and see .
It's very similar price actually
It's heartwarming anytime I see a new car with a manual transmission. SAVE THE MANUALS
This is why i always said the ZF8 transmission complements the supra B58 so much
The tire specs are WAY off.
And the manual Supra doesn't have launch control? Thats weird. Didnt know that about it
2 different engines S vs B Stock what's the point
I could’ve told you who would win that just based on specs however where the supra comes into its own is on a circuit not just one turn but several turns especially in transitions. I’ve seen a few comparisons on the track between these two and the supra is a better car . In a straight line it’s obvious which has a better power to weight ratio , physics don’t lie. Plus $10,000 gets you a lot of goodies in the supra.
I think both of these can be had with autos, would like to see that. Just to take the driver equation out of it. Also the non 45th anniversary edition, is $60k, so that bmw is $15k more!!!!
Also, the base 3.0 is 55k
g87 has the carbon package which is an extra 10k. if you skip that its still a 10k difference
Why are these guys crying about not having launch control in a manual car?
Yeah I never heard of launch control in a manual. I think I would go with the auto though since I would mostly daily it.
Even the 911 Turbo S only managed 1.24g.
must be those 345 rear tires...
@@Blas4ublasphemy It's an error by Edmunds. It's supposed to be 275 rears
@@alicekim7351 is the 1.45 also an error?
pretty good shifting boys
M2 vs camaro SS 1LE
M2 will win
@@hpickettz34 yeah, barely.... against a GEN5 SLE, but a GEN6 SS 1LE would creampie that cute little thottie... I mean Bimmer.
SLE would beat the M2.
That one stray hair 😂
Ok, a BWM Z4 hardtop (aka the Toyota Supra) vs the M2, remember Toyota turned the Supra into a sports car for this gen, one wonders if a Supra based 2 Series coupe would have made more sense
Should do a m240i xdrive vs the m2 or vs the supra.
I’d like to see some of the more “affordable” Porsche options. Cayman GTS 4.0 or cayman GT4
The Supra is clearly more conservatively tuned, such is the Toyota way...
Basically the same car minus the engine. The Z4 and 2 series basically gave the same chassis except one is slightly shorter.
2:40 I am so OCD, I so wanted to pull out that really long forehead hair out of that guys head.😅
great u drags. the best
Believe it or not supra does have launch control but you have to have the car in manual, but this is only for the ones with the ZF-8 transmission to my knowledge
BMW against BMW in essence! Also not a fair fight between BMW power trains.
Jonathan.... the Supra is not an inline 6 anymore... it's a b58 BMW V-6... so definitely not a spiritual successor of either the Z3 or the Supra MKIV... still a great car though.
The Supra is an in-line 6.
M2 for the drag strip and Supra for the Touge
I know this is t reasonable but I think y’all should get the C6 zr1 vs the c7 zr1. Just because you can .
say whatever about the BMW, they still make amazing cars
Should have been an m240 vs the Supra.. Now do that M2 vs a CT4V Blackwing❗👀
The supra has 345’s on the rear ???
Ugly vs Ugly. Ugly wins.
There's a clear reason BMW gave the Supra the B58 and NOT the S58 engine. They did not want the Supra at a lower price point to outshine their M cars.
Typo, supra tire size is not 345
Would like to see both cars on thr PS4S!
So sad that 3700 lbs is considered low weight.
8:42 - "this is a little faster"
9:47 - "it comes down to lifestyle choice"
Really?? 😂 Why review then? Why race?
Down pipe + tune should get the Supra front
