    For everyone who doesn't use cups, I translated this recipe to grams and liters where needed;
    1 tbsp olive oil
    120 grams diced onion
    120 grams diced celery
    3 cloves garlic
    1 Liter chicken broth, plus more as needed
    1 (800 grams) can crushed San Marzano tomatoes,
    or about 800 grams of other crushed tomatoes
    1/2 tsp paprika
    42 grams white long grain rice
    125 ml heavy cream
    1 or 2 tsp sugar, or to taste
    salt and pepper to taste
    cayenne to taste
    basil to garnish

      Michael Nichols using rice is very common to use and its most important ingredient to add in soup to call it Bisque

    • @arthas640
      @arthas640 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think people abuse roux, its become the default to thicken anything when it's actually a really bland way to thicken a dish (same goes for corn starch), it should be a last resort but its often the first thing people try. Rice in this is more flavorful in my opinion than flour/roux. Alot of people use roux/flour in chowders and that's why they often wind up tasting like wallpaper paste.

    Just making some right now! I never knew it could be that easy! I opened up a large can of crushed tomatoes. I used some 1/2 -3/4 cup for the soup. The rest I poured into plastic bags for individual serving portions and put the small bags into a large freezer bag so I can have tomato soup anytime I want! What exactly confuses you? Stock is made with all the parts (especially bones) and liquid from boiled meat.

      you man broth is from the meat as well and stock is just the bones. (or nearly just)

    I just got finished making this soup and I have to say I was absolutely blown away by how good this is. Only thing I didn't have was the celery, but it turned out awesome all the same. I also dipped my pizza crust in it cause I didn't have any grilled cheese on hand

    I just made this, it turned out very delicious! I only had canned peeled tomatoes (not san marzano) and I crushed them using a potato masher. Wonderful recipe, I may just add croutons or just toasted bread on the side next time.

    Today I tried to make this soup,I have never tasted tomato soup b4.. Idk what should it tasted like,anyways I followed the measurements and the steps also adding a lot of paprika powder and cayenne powder,it tasted a bit like tomato juice to me? Haha anyways when I tasted,it's good and then I tried adding things in it just to know what it'll taste like (hahaha) added 3tbs grated cheese and 1tbs lemon juice,it's pretty good almost like curry taste?anyway, love your recipe and your vid !

    Great recipe, I can vouch for it's taste, though I was wondering.. Is there any way to make the color of the soup more... red? Something to liven up the colors and make it more vibrant?
    Because as soon as I blended everything together and when I added the cream it just turned into this murky kind of orange. Just hope we don't have to resort to food coloring.

    Homemade buttered croutons is the perfect garnish for this, one of my favorites. If I don't feel like making the croutons I just dress the bowl with a small amount of butter, for flavor.
