Lyrics:
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Truer words were rarely said.
I was in Berlin, Germany in 1992 and went this place called the Irish Pub to throw back a few. They had this two piece band there cranking out a bunch of American tunes all night. At one point they broke into a stretch of John Denver tunes, and man that friggin' bar came ALIVE! Everybody was singing in English (with German Accents of course) and people got on the dance floor and even some tables dancing their butts off. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen! Those Germans love their John Denver.

John Denver had one of the most incredible voices. His enthusiasm for singing is contagious. You cannot help but hum along with him.
@stevenschlei -- He was born in Roswell, New Mexico December 31 , 1943 . So perhaps his voice comes from the fact that he was an ALIEN , So ' Landed ' in Roswell , New Mexico . 😃

Or whatever you are, no one cares. Country boy is a state of mind, quit focusing on race, religion, and nationality and just be happy.
That's the beauty of John Denvers music. He preached love and happiness for all, live a good life you only get one.
Underrated (spot on) comment. 🏆
As someone who is not a country boy in the slightest (I’m California boy), this song is undeniably amazing. And it sounds like it would’ve been incredible to hear live with country people.
I’m from Saskatchewan, farming province play this on the combine all the time.
Dude, we just chill brother. Takes us 20 minutes to get anywhere we need. Everyone has a yard and a front porch. Everyone waves at one another. People don't lock their doors sometimes. This John Denver album was given to me when I was 16 years old, It was my first ever birthday present{but that's another story}, I had never heard John Denver's music before, but I played his music and loved every single song. and I listened to his music everyday until i could sing every song by heart, I was heart broken when I heard of his passing in his airplane crash. And now, at 63 years old, I still love and listen to his beautiful music whenever I can. God blesses John Denver and American country music.
Greeting
I met him outside a Harvard College auditorium where I’d just Ostend to his speech on world health. I went out the side door and stood with my young Son ext to his limo. Out he came. As he passed me and got in I said “Hi John. Good luck.” Now in the car, he smiled and said “Thank you.” My little moment with John. The next night, I drove to Providence, R. I. and had a great seat with young and old people watching, hearing him sing. I marveled at that. He will always be my favorite. Robert Plant...a close 2nd.

My taste in music does NOT normally venture into Country, but John Denver is the exception - his music transcends a simple description as that. He was incredibly talented. The man had rhythm that a lot of modern "artists" would give their right arm for!
He was more and amalgam of country, folk and pop…but his awesomeness is unquestioned!
A lot of modern country sounds especially crap... ;D
I think that you would love Bread as well. John Denver and David Gates aren't strictly country. They fit more into the genre of Soft Rock. Bright, soothing and optimistic songs like Make It With You and Baby I'm-A Want You are classics
I’ve only just found country music I love it now I wish I’d of found it a lot sooner
@user-ru6vf3xd8y I've stopped buying CDs for the time being but with country music besides John Denver I have compilations for Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and collaboratively as The Highwaymen, and also Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. Metallica lead singer James Hetfield is a country music lover. One surprise inclusion on their 1996 album Load is a beautiful and bitter-sweet country ballad about love and loss called Mama Said. Look it up here on TH-cam. Even if you're not a Metallica fan, or a fan of hard rock or heavy metal you'll be pleasantly surprised 🙂

I'm a year-round competitive swim coach. And we recently had a big swim meet down in Ohio last week. Anyone who has kids of their own or works with kids knows how tough this pandemic has been for them. It's been an emotional roller coaster battling covid. Anyway.. the DJ at the meet played this song just a few minutes before the meet started, and I was expecting myself and the other coaches to know the song since we're a bit older and the kids wouldn't like it. But then I stopped and looked around the pool deck and almost every kid on deck was dancing to this song. It was so fricking cool seeing that and seeing these kids smile again. Music is so awesome, and this guy was one of the best.
