    Lyrics:
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
We're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.
Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes.
Let it all hang out 'cause we got a run to make.
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there's beer in Texarcana.
And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
We're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
We're gonna do what they say can't be done.

My big brother was a trucker for over 40 years. Tried to retire but that only lasted 5 months. We laid him to rest February 13th. I will miss him telling me stories of the road. Everytime I see a trucker I think of him. Miss you

@@Salom2015 I’m his baby sister. Thanks for replying. I miss my big brother. When we were bringing him home in the hearse, my husband and some local truckers lined up and blew their horns. He always wanted everyone to know that he was in the neighborhood. They made a ton of noise. And he road motorcycles so some friends were the escort. I always thought my brother would slide off a mountain in Utah or have a heart attack and be found in a truck stop but never in my wildest dreams come home while burglars were in his house and get shot with his own gun. But I know he is on the other side doing well cause he is with my other brother and parents. Thank you for replying and always speak out to everyone that touches your heart.

Always loved that he wrote this while they were making the movie. He went to Hal Needham (the director) and mentioned he'd written a song the night before he thought might be good to use in the movie. Played it for him, and offered to change it any way Hal might think would be good...Hal looked at him and said 'If you change ONE THING in that song, I'll never forgive you!' And just like that it became the theme for the whole movie...

Almost. The movie was already filmed, and Jerry forgot about the song. Hal asked him and he said, something like "I'll have it for you tomorrow morning." He went out drinking, and still showed up with it. Hal didn't react after hearing it, and Jerry offered to change it for him. Hal said "You change one damn note, I'll f***in kill you!"

Often times we were in over our heads but no wasn't in our vocabulary and we *always* got it done. It wasn't until years later we realized all we accomplished and adopted this song.

EEE ed (d string @2nd fret ie E, and pull off to open D, then to the C on the a string) CCC CB AABB EEEE(E back to open low E string)
      Guitar solo bass backing:

Not many realize that although Jerry Reed had banjos, country picking on guitars, and his unique approach to writing about the common man......his music often times has a funky rock driving beat and bassline. Jerry Reed is actually fusion to a musician's ear.

    • @DG-sf9ei

@@firemanganJerry Reed doesn't align with one genre. One of his influences may include bluegrass, but there's alot more going on with Jerry Reed's music than bluegrass on it's own. Additionally, bluegrass music does NOT allow drummers or any sort of drums into their music. Whereas Jerry Reed had one of the best drummers in the business driving his sound.

I am blown away that the "Snowman' from the film wrote this song. what a talent! Smokey and the Bandit is decades overdue in my life; what a guilty pleasure to watch this for the first time in 2023. I grew up watching Dukes of Hazzard and (for better and worse) used to drive like these maniacs, earning myself the 'Dutchess of Kent' moniker before completing high school. A perfect movie that doesn't try to be about more than just people and silly caricatures. Great casting, some pretty great acting in some of the scenes, some great dialogue. With all the focus these days on fancy special effects and expensive accoutrements; this simple story feels refreshingly...human

  • @FB3Network
    @FB3Network 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The best part of the soundtrack is the continuity in the movie.
When Bandit and Snowman are heading down to Texarkana, TX, they're going westbound, which is why you hear "Westbound and Down" near the beginning of the movie. But later on when they find the truck convoy, they are going back to the Fairgrounds in Atlanta, GA, meaning they're going eastbound, so "Eastbound and Down" is playing. There's both an eastbound and westbound version of the song, because it tells us the direction they are travelling across the US at that time, "Westbound and Down" for heading to pick up the 400 cases of Coors Beer, and "Eastbound and Down" for when they are heading back to Atlanta to deliver the goods.
    Excellent continuity in the soundtrack.

I just happened to watch two movies this week for the first time that had Jerry Reed in both of them. I didn't know he was in either one till I watched them. Concrete Cowboys and The Survivors. The name sounded familiar so I looked him up, I'll be on the look out for his albums now. I know I've seen some of them out looking places before, but I wasn't sure who he was until now.
