Massive Antique Meat Slicer Restoration - 1895 Cast Iron Alexanderwerk

- In this restoration video, I will bring back to life an antique meat slicer produced in Westfalia, Germany. I bought it from an antique website, thinking it would make a significant restoration. This antique kitchen tool is beautiful and massive but beaten up by time. The restoration process was arduous because all the parts were rusty and stuck. The meat slicer was built from many parts that I had to restore individually. Took me almost two weeks to achieve this result. The paint on it was also lead-positive, so I had to dispose of the waste and wear a mask all the time. I love how this antique meat slicer turned out and am happy I could save it from decay.
Now it is perfectly functional and can be used again!

Hey, Y'all!!
This meat slicer/food slicer is not only an antique meat slicer, but this is also a piece of art for me, and I consider myself lucky that I had the chance to work on it! The restoration process and video creation took me almost two weeks, but I'm thrilled with the result, and I hope you will enjoy it too! If you want to support my work, you can become a channel member! Your support will be much appreciated, and all your rusty coins will go into my new restoration projects! Cheers!
Need to sharpen more the blade with a stone
Gute Arbeit 👍😉
Danke!
So many intricate moving pieces. It’s a skill in its own just to be able to assemble it all correctly at the end. 👍🏻
Absolutely
As someone who has worked in a deli, it's amazing how familiar it looks.
Nice. Means that the core design didn't changed too much.
@@rustyshadesrestoration Aside from automation and safety, modern meat slicers function basically the same.
If it ain't broke don't fix it, just improve it.
I think you agree about pretty rust!
Yes! I DO lke these colors!
Well, what kind of silly old chook am I? I’d heard of powder coating but I didn’t know it was actually powder that was puffed on then baked 🫤I don’t know what I thought. Anyway, fantastic job and what a wonderful item is that slicer.
Thank you! Yeah, I love it, the paint it is more resistant and while coating doesn't smell at all/less toxic and gets dry immediately which is so time saving 😀
The puffed on part is actually more complicated. The paint is charged so when they apply electric to the parts via the suspension wires , it becomes attracted to the part. Like static electricity and a dryer sheet lol.
I saw the thumbnail and think I have never seen a more beautiful rust covering - no sarcasm!
It looks so dainty!
I hope the blue and white panels are restored and not changed!🤞😺
I didn't change them.
@@rustyshadesrestoration Yay! You are still dissassembling it right now 😹
Next time use the ceramic repair. The perfection of previous videos was the thing that made your videos so good to me.
Deal!
Very Nice 👍💯😁 Job 👌👍 and another Antique from the Past rescued from the Trash 🗑️/City Dump.
I agree with You "No wimpy piece of Meat 🍖🥓 for Me too".
Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance,
"The Cake 😋 🍰🎂 🥳🎉 🎊 Man".
Ahhh, the original inspiration for the Starship Enterprise.
Hahaha 😁
Beautiful! 👍
The only thing that would have been better would have been taking the gold paint pen and tracing the scroll work on the legs and the motif around the top.
Really lean into The Gilded Age theme. 🙏😺
Hi. Great job, very well done. My parents use such a slicer in their cornershop (approximately 1965)
😊👍
Thank you 🙌 Back in time tools like this was built to last forever.
Awesome job you did restoring the meat slicer. It looked very rusty and dirty but you really cleaned it up and you got it working like a charm as well. Great work.
Thanks George! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Who knew chrome was blue?!😺
Thank you for this video. did not know this was made so far back in time. God bless.
You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Now this here is a contraption if I've ever seen one. Just starting the video now, I know I'm going to love the final outcome!
Hi Johnny, watching you again! Very nice😘
Thank you for watching my videos! 🙂
I would love to have a slicer like that. That is in really good shape, nothing is broke, even the screws are in great shape
Nice job! 😊
Wow 😃 what's a piece of art! Effect before and after - extraordinary 👏👏 Painting - satisfying 😌 Good job ! 💪 Cheers 🍻
Thank you 🙌 😊
This is one of the few late 1800's antiques i've seen so far and very first time seeing this kind of meat slicer with such a intricate design, good work👍👍 you did awesome on this restoration 😊😊😊
Thank you 🙌 I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I never realized that this technology was ever available. You really did a great job and bringing this back to life. I don't expect anything else but perfect from you. You always do a fantastic job. When you first talked about the part going into the oven it had taken a few seconds to understand what you meant. That was pretty good.
As always I left you a big old thumbs up and of course I've already been subscribed to your channel.
Look forward to watching the next video.
Thank you David. I'm glad that you enjoyed this video. Soon I will post another one, I'm at shop right now. Cheers 👀
Awesome, you rock
You do awesome work. Your very talented. Id love to be able to restore antiques to their beautiful self. Great job.👏👏👏👍🙏
Thank you Theresa! 🙌 I'm glad you enjoy my work. Have a good one!
Laser versus sandblasting.
Is one method more effective than the other, or is it changeable depending on the condition of the material?
And...
Which is more fun (or satisfying) to use? 😺
Wow! That turned out great! 👍👍👍
I had never seen an antique meat slicer like this before. Great job!
Thank you! 🙂
I'm impressed. Congratulations 👏👏👏
Thank you Denise. I'm glad you like it.
You did a good job again. The result looks better than new. Time for Party with a big Bacon.
Haha, thank you! Definitely, today ba on party 🥳
Someone posted a link to your video on Reddit, and I'm so glad I took the time to watch this. I was hooked from the very beginning.
This was so much more than just restoring something. The care and attention to detail; so much love went into this piece.
Extraordinary work! Thank you for restoring a little piece of history.
Thank you for your nice words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and how this piece turned out. Have a great day! 👍
Beautiful! Love the powder coating!
Thank you! 🙂
EXCEPȚIONAL!!👍FELICITĂRI!(ROMÂNIA-EUROPA)

Wow! What a fantastic restoration on this gorgeous meat slicer. I have never seen anything like this before. You did an absolute amazing job bringing it back to life. Thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to your next one.

Thank you Lisa! 🙌 I'm glad you enjoyed the video and see you at the next project 😀 Have a great week!
All I can say is that I am blessed to have stumbled upon your channel. I loved this video.
I'm glad to know that! Thanks for watching and have a great weekend 😀
Thank you for watching and for your feedback! 🙂
I love how they combined art with function. Too bad lead paint was so prevalent back then. At least there is a pretty easy way to test for it.
Yes, that's true. It is easy to test but expensive to get rid of the waste properly.
Przepiękna jest ta zrobiona krajalnica do mięsa pozdrawiam mile i serdecznie 👍👍👍👍
Dziękuję! 🙌
Perfect! Good job! 👍
Thank you! 🙂
Brilliant job 👍 well done
Thanks buddy! ✊️
Schön, Sie sind ein Genie!!
Danke!
Looks like an art work, well done.😊
Thanks buddy!
My room being totally silent, enjoying the asmr, then hearing a random “uuahh.”
Nicely done! This is a piece of our history...
Now i'm hungry! Make me a sandwich, please!👌
Haha, of course, just tell me how you want it! 😅
This reminds me of the more modern-day meat slicers I used to see in the Emeline Ave. food prep area. That was back in 1984 and 1985. These modern-day meat slicers were even shown in the Stephen King horror flick called Children of the Corn, an Adult Nightmare. The former New York Governor Bill DeBlasio wouldn't be writing these kinds of horror stories. 🍖 🥓 🥩 🍖
This treasure is 128 years old.
What's the most oldest thing You restored?
Beautiful job - thank you for sharing! (Although I must admit to cringing when I saw you dragging that poor rat-tail file BACKWARDS through that mounting hole. That's a really quick way to damage a perfectly good file beyond use.) I love watching its transformation from a rusted piece of what many would call junk, to a beautiful piece of well-designed, functional, kitchen art. Thank you!!
Thanks! I have few so I don't cry 😅😌and nothing bad happened. The piece it is very beautiful indeed and will serve as a kitchen decoration in an restaurant. Have a good one!
I was excited to watch this video and brother you did not disappoint well done it looks amazing
Thank you 🙌 I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Amazing work!!!
Thank you Paul! 🙌
My fingers physically hurt seeing all the sanding paper and the amount of time to sand just the one piece, also blow torch on a wooden table almost gave me a heart attack
Magnifico trabajo.
Gracias! 😀
Я ( ja, ja!) Gut!
Any small device prior to electricity was hand-powered. Since the vintage meat slicer is made from Germany, that country is a meat raising culture.
hi. I have been following your channel for a while. I love the restoration theme and I'm a fan of you. I am also doing a restoration channel and hope that you can give me some suggestions about my restoration videos. I'm really grateful.
Hi mate! Sure, reach me out on insta and I can respond there to your questions. Cheers 🙂
Bom dia bom trabalho🎉

Nice restoration mate .👍👌
Thank you 🙌
it a pretty cool works 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you 🙌
Used to have one of them in Tara Queensland
I love all your videos
Thank you 🙌 I'm glad to hear that!
Google translate is not the best..
What a very sensitive and careful restoration. Pure Art!!
Thank you 🙌
That slicing blade almost looks like an old brake drum.
Boa tarde amigo lindo trabalho parabéns sou do Brasil Aracaju Sergipe.
Obrigado 👍
Those “Money-Shot” moans/grunts when breaking the bolts loose where a little bit unnerving…. LOL 😂
Nice video!
Thanks ✊️
That's true! Things was made to last longer in the past.
May you please a product list, especially of the enamel cleaner and the gold paint? Great job💐
Hi! Thank you! They are Polish brands, so I don't know if that will help you. Just search on Google, gold paint pen and enamel repair kit, and it will show you relevant results based on your location.
@@rustyshadesrestoration thank you
16:53 lol I can't unsee the face
If the energy price go up.
I see this come back again .
Its do not use power to cut the meat.
If we will have meet..
IMO idve kept the chipped porcelain gives it character
Hello ... Congratulations. Nice work. It would do the handle as well ( it looks that you did not did the wooden part ) and I would make all steele color ... Eventually the blade should be re-done in steele as well to last more 100 years .. .Anyway ... Just details ..All the best !!
Thank you for your feedback and tips! Much appreciated 🙏
A nylon washer under those turn screws on the top would help protect the enamel. I could hear that sound which makes your teeth itch when the knob of the screw met the enamel. Is this a show item or are you going to put it to work in your kitchen?
Just a decorative piece. But good idea, I didn't think about that. Thanks for watching 🍻
@@rustyshadesrestoration I'm subbed and can't wait to see more.
Thank you. It will be very soon the next one! Cheers!
At 21:59 I was reminded of my annual exam! Lol

Should be 50 shades of rust!
It was taken 😅
How many hands have been lost to this device over time?
😅😅😅
Good ii boss 👍👍😊😊😍
Do you ever forget where a screw goes and forget to film it as well so you're all like "shit! Where does that screw go to!?"
Because that would be me in every restoration if I were you
Yes, happened few times in my life.
good Job 👍
Thank you Richard 🙌
I'm really surprised by how good the condition of threads and other steel parts ...
It's a very good job, but why must you hold up every screw and part you take off?
Thank you. I don't know how to answer your question. Just happened.
I was at the very beginning of filming the restoration process.
I'm not russian, so the title was translated by Google Translate. Idk what you see there 😅
Rusty Shades Restoration, where did you get the paint markers for white and gold?
I found them in a local shop called Lidl.
@@rustyshadesrestoration what type of them are you using
Edding 750 series, liquid paint felt tip marker.
So tell me please, what do you do with all the pieces that you restore?
Keep them.
I do prefer the older stuff just like this one they are better made better quality last longer than the crap produced today
Hi, wd 40 spray, heat and should work. If not and the head is broken you have to drill it out.
@@rustyshadesrestoration спасибо!
It is a Meat Slicer. Probably Google translate was wrong in Russian language.
@@rustyshadesrestoration ...
