    • @evilcanofdrpepper
      @evilcanofdrpepper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only paint I care about is the red in the alignment grooves and I might even do something with like different colors or alternating colors (maybe red and black) to make it easier to know what disc you are on for those of us who don't have the sixth sense of knowing what pin/disc their pick is on while it is inside a lock like LPL does. But I would be fine with and actually would prefer a silver pick with red and/or black lines. I think they should at least not put paint on the tip, a painted metal surface that is constantly being scratched and rubbing other metal surfaces will get scratched immediately, unless that paint is specially designed to provide better grip on the discs some how I don't need it and don't want it.

    • @anne_frank_

    Congratulations LPL and Bill. It's fantastic to see your design already in the prototype stage by the ever industrious, Sparrows. 👏
    I agree with the majority of the comments about the colour/contrast of the handle/markers. My idea would be to have thin silicone O-rings in the marker grooves. In my opinion, it would have a few advantages. 1) give visible and tactile indication of moving along the disk stack. 2) Act to cushion and centre the handle, making it less wobbly and remain in position if you let go of it. 3) The O-rings would decay and break over time, but I can't see replacements being a problem. 4) Finally, the rings could come in different colours, glow-in-the-dark, etc., allowing everyone to customise the markers as they please. 👍

    Sparrows prototype is unsigntly, its incredible that two guys were able to make a better looking pick than a professional company did with a cnc machine, either way though, its great that they've decided to go ahead with it and mass produce it for consumers, you and BB did a great job creating the original design and then giving it to them royalty free was just honorable, though you really do deserve some monetary compensation imo.

    The practical comments I have are already given in other comments:
    - Red/Black contrast issue on the grid,
    - Remove the chamfer,
    - Longer tip for when the tensioning nose is fully extended,
    - Include a zeroing metal scrap piece for convenience.
    I just have one optional request for Sparrows: please add LPL and Locklab logos (maybe on the ends of side arms, or on the backside).

    Thanks so much for this! I missed it in my inbox somehow, but thanks to the video, I've found my new favourite place to buy picks and won't have to worry too much about shipping and conversion rates (I live in Canada). I'm not really in tune with the locksport community, so finding a place that's not Amazon for picks (which is where I got my starting kit, I got lucky with a few hooks that are okay but not great and one tension bar that I really like) is really nice!

  • @angeldelvax7219
    @angeldelvax7219 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I also commented this on bosnian bill's video; maybe an adjustable "stopper" ring on the tension shaft could come in handy, so you could set it to exactly the depth for the first disc with the ring right against the lock body. Might improve comfort and stability while picking ;)

    It's baffling how many people are dissing this excellent tool. Sparrows DOES NOT fuck around with their tools. Not one thing on their site could be considered low quality, this disc detainer pick is a pro grade tool and it looks very good.

  • @russellullyatt1153

    • @Belioyt
      @Belioyt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Like most consumer goods, Sparrows have built something with more form than function. Planned obsolescence is built in and more important, a device that's designed to be mass produced.

    • @John-lx8iu
      @John-lx8iu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Low price was a corner stone of this project from the start. After Sparrows comes out with this model, perhaps they can make a "Deluxe Model" or something for those looking for something with more visual appeal...

    • @CyberianFaux
      @CyberianFaux 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It doesn't look that bad. The only worry is that the paint will wear over time, as you can already see happening. They just need to make those minor improvements he stated and it will be fine.

    • @metamorphicorder
      @metamorphicorder 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Belioyt i think your response is the inverse of the op's point. He likes the 'look ' of the original more than the mass produced one. Thats the 'form' and as lpl showed, other than a few tweaks, its functionally comparable to the source product.
      So im not sure what you were responding to but it doesnt seem to be the op's original comment.

    • @metamorphicorder
      @metamorphicorder 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, custom tools are often made better than mass produced tools and often look better. But as he said sparrows is recieving feedback and tweaking the build so that they produce something that reflects well on them and on the creators of this pick. Im not sure how that is cheapening his vision. His vision was an affordable detainer pick that actually works on a variety of locks that people can actually get their hands on. Seems like this is exactly that.

    Your hand made one looks and reads so much better than their prototype. Red lines on black are harder to read than on silver. Your knerled handles are more professional looking and won't wear down and have a better grip. I'm hoping their prototype has a lot of revisions planned.
    Guess my question is why not just go with your design adding the modifications you suggest.
