I was wondering how to get those end caps off without force. Your video showed the way clearly, concisely, perfectly. And by the way, great thinking! Thank you so much
The only honest DIY video that wants to help you save money, versus buying the whole new blade. Thank you immensely for this video. It took me a while to find it, but worth it!!!!!
Well done young man. Long before your time, 'refills' were commonly used. Nowadays, the wiper companies nearly insist that you replace the entire unit. Thank you for showing us how to save $$$ and how to be more self-sufficient.
refilling wiper rubber is environmentally responsible option than throwing away the whole body of perfectly good wiper blade. I'm glad this video exist and educating more people about cheaper and environmentally friendly option
Thank you for this excellently explained simple video. I am a 76 years old female living in a LHD country owning a RHD motorhome and the LHD blades of course don´t fit so other than sending to the UK for completely new blades this was my answer and I have just completed the passenger side. Thanks again.
Thanks for this video. I wish I had seen it before I spent a few hours trying to figure out how to change the rubber blades on my VW GTi. In my case I had to disassemble the whole wiper including the both ends and middle arm attachment piece because the new rubber would not slid in so easy as shown in the video. One additional thing I would add is to spray a small amount of WD-40 on the metal spacers to make it a little easier for the rubber to slide in. I also re-coated the rubber with dry graphite when finished. This simple repair will save you approximately 30 to 50 US dollars and it will help the environment because there is no need to trash the whole wiper just because it needs new rubber inserts. The greedy manufacturers whom are intentionally trying to make consumer products un-repairable may not like it though!
Great video! I was able to die what you showed in your video last year when I first replaced my inserts. This year however, the insert base is tearing apart from the body and remaining stuck in the track. So how can you removed the end caps when this happens?
Thank you. I was doing mine last night and came across that problem. Used your trick to remove the blade. I had premeasured replacements I just did your removal trick in reverse and fed the new blade through the hole. Compressed it enough to get the whole blade on then just released it.
Amazing! Thank you so much for this video! Have been figuring out out to get this out for years! Got them in 2011 and the blades got worn. No one at my local workshop knew how to replace the blades. I finally can replace it with PIAA silicon blades.
Very helpful. Thank you. I bought rubbers online but didn’t know how to change. Tried once and broke one wiper. Then found this video and it worked perfectly. Good job man !
I had just bought a set of these aerotwins allround the car, thank you for sharing this video as I now know how to change the refills. These are much better than the conventional ones :)
i didnt even know u could replace the blades. so easy instead of just trashing a pair every year.thanks for the knowledge, gna put this one in my tool box.
Thank you! Super helpful and timely video which has aged very well. It is impossible to find wiper blades that are refillable for Mercedes-Benz E350 with P&H pins. This video will help me to save money.
After watching this video I am confident I can do it myself. I have two cars to sort out, my audi a6c6 and my wife's kia rio. Wish me luck. Thanks for your time!
Fantastic, I was buying the whole blades all the time, now I'll get the wiper rubbers refill from now on. The question would be if they all are the same size in wide?
Thanks for this educational video on replacing wiper blades. Bosch wiper blades gave me a hard time to replace therefore with your insight now I have a better idea how to do it. Your video is simply amazing.
Thank you! I have Bosch Icon's, and figured it would work, too. Yes, it works, but ***BOSCH HAS ADDED A 'No-Refill' FEATURE*** - at least to some Icon's. At the center, under the metal ribs, are two 'nubs' - the existing rubber slides out, but nothing will slide past the center nubs (I was able to slide one thru w/o mod by leaving the original rubber in, slide new rubber in at one end, and 'pull/push' so as the old came past center, new was right next to it). FIX: Free the metal ribs, remove from plastic bracket, exposing nubs. Cut, scratch or grind them flush. Once flush, rubber refills slip on easily. And yes - the refill rubber (from Ebay) seem to be as good as the original. I looked at marks on the refills and originals, and they have similar mfgr marks. I'm sure some are sub-standard, but I also suspect some refills are *better*.
+Scott S. i found that you don't have to grind the nubs off if you pull off the plastic rail cover from the end you've removed the cap from. This allows enough play in the metal rails to slide the rubber over the nubs without catching on them. Once you've got the rubber past the nubs re-attach the plastic cover and then it's easy to slide the rubber down the whole length.
I just unclipped the center part that attaches to the wiper arm, then bent the little stoppers up from the other side with a screwdriver. Slide the rubber in, then reassemble.
I didn't know you were supposed to pull the new rubber pieces apart to get two blades. I kept looking at the two pieces that came from Amazon and thinking what the heck is this. There's no flap to wipe the screen. I mean I was this close to sending them back because the package said "4 pieces" and of course there were just two 26" strips. Then I watched your video and I became fully enlightened!
Thank you so much for sharing. I will return the wipers I just bought and get just the rubber. Big savings$$$. Much appreciated. Now to find the right refill.
Thanks, I took an Anco refill I had, removed it from its spline and inserted it as you described in the Bosch "arm". Saved me some $$, thanks for sharing!
Thanks. Living the cali desert eats the rubber blade pretty quickly and then coming to the southern rainy states my windows are a mess and wipers in the rainy are more expensive.
geRAMicc85 Such a simple video but thanks so much for taking the time to post this, also took me a while to find it, but yes worth it. I have a Seat Altea and the blades is about a grand in South African terms [cheaper with your exchange rate offcourse] :)
Good video but I will warn folks, I went to do this and it took me almost an hour because by my luck ripping out the rubber like that a microscopic piece of rubber was stuck dead center and no matter what I did for 30 minutes it would not come out at all whatsoever, no tool, knife or anything could get it out. So now one of my wipers has about 2-3 centimeters in the center that will leave a line on my windshield because there is no rubber touching the windshield just the tiny piece jammed up in there. On my second wiper I only popped off one side after taking the rubber out only enough to pop one side off and I just slide the whole thing out and popped the new one in no problem. So to avoid potential disaster and headaches, just only pop off one side.
At 00:02 i keep expecting geRAMicc85 to say "What i have here is a 44 Magnum the most powerful handgun in the world" I swear this is actually Clint Eastwood talking and not geRAMicc85 after all. Thanks for uploading this by the way.
That is a good idea, I always hate throwing the entire blade out just because of the rubber blade has worn out and can't be recycled. I use silicone spray to keep it clean and soft. What size rubber did you use?
To be fair my Merc blades were fitted in 2009 and I've just replaced the rubber now. Nearly 10 years! Even the whole thing from mercedes at that rate isn't bad haha
I'm pissed when I see this video I went to the store and asked do they have a wiper the same as was on my truck they told me they don't so I said can I replace the blades? They told me not a chance better buy a new one. Man thank you for your video it helps me for the future 👍🏻✌🏻
Fantastic! Thanks much for posting. I'm tired of paying the dealer for new assemblies every time the rubber gets damaged! And they can't even mount them right, LOL. Now, one question though, to anyone who knows: are these rubber elements, the replacements, I mean, same for all cars -- or do you need to pick the right one somehow?

I just paid $32 for a pair of new wiper blades from an auto parts store. Never again!!! Thank you so so much for this video. You are a gem, sir.

8 years later your still awesome. This video is very much appreciated!!
very glad to hear that, thank you
Almost 11 years later and still saving us $'s. Kudos to you my good man.
thank you and happy saving
It took me hundreds of minutes to find this "none frame" windshied blade rubber replancement, thank you so much
One of the best DIY videos so far

Unlike many videos I watched, this one is useful. Thanks
Thanks for the video, my brother's been trying for hours and I found this video and finished in 5 mins.
Works for other brands also. The steel springs in mine were starting to rust so I sanded and painted them also. Great video!

Holy cow! A video that does exactly what it promises to do!

Just how a video should be done, Thanks :D
Thanks so much for this video! I couldn't find anyone that knew how to remove the tips. You Rock!!
This is the video. The only one that tells how to remove those caps
thank you for this, calm and easy to follow, unlike some others I have seen.
Good tip there, I like the removal of the metal cap without the pliers.
Thanks for this educational video on replacing wiper blades. Bosch wiper blades gave me a hard time to replace therefore with your insight now I have a better idea how to do it. Your video is simply amazing.
Thanks . Good simple video . Simple ,short and straight to the point.
Thankyou that was so helpfull. Just saved me £110 for replacement mercedes S Class Chamber heated Wipers. Thankyou.
I fixed both in about 10-15 minutes thank you help a lot and safe money

Dude!!! You're a deadset legend!!! Now i can put silicone refils into the bosch blades for $10 instead of forking out $80 a set pr $120 a set from VW
how'd you make out? i have gti 2015. not sure where to find refill
Thanks from New Zealand mate! You're a legend. 👏
No problem 👍
Excellent video. You just got the job done. Straight to the point! 💯 🏆

If only I could watch this before I buy a new pair of wiper blades :'D Thanks a lot :)
Thanks, I took an Anco refill I had, removed it from its spline and inserted it as you described in the Bosch "arm". Saved me some $$, thanks for sharing!
Neil, Do you know the width/profile of the insert you used? was it 6mm?
Sorry, don't remember and I'm not home with my vehicle to check:(
Amazing this is really simple and I save time and cost thanks a lot for this demonstration great
Thank you for this video. It helped me to replace the rubbers.
welcome
Thank you. You just saved me £25 on each blade!!
Thanks for this helpful video, I tried your suggestions and they worked well in replacing the rubber inserts, which is a much cheaper option
finnaly the video i was searching for to change the inner rubber
Thanks. Living the cali desert eats the rubber blade pretty quickly and then coming to the southern rainy states my windows are a mess and wipers in the rainy are more expensive.
Yeah, took me a while to search this video too, but exactly what I was looking for to reduce unnecessary waste of perfectly good materials.
Omg thanks so much I was having such a hard time taking those caps off
Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks.
Thankyou. I did it with pliers and screwdriver and then found your video which is a much better method.
Job is done, before any damage. Thanks to you. Well done
just saved 30 bucks, thank you sir
you'd have saved even more if you're bought the refills from aliexpress
Hooray, I got stuck on how to get the end caps off. Now sorted, thanks Mr Ram.
Thank you for taking the time to make this instructional video. Helped.
Fantastic! So easy and just what I needed to know.

thank you so much. it was really helpful. this saves money and save the environement.
Great Stuff - thank you :-) I knew it could be done easily - I just didn't quite expect it to be that easy! LOL!
Thank you - I didnt realise the metal was also the springy clamp :)
Thanks for the video. Briliant from Cyprus
Thanks, excellent!!
What about the rear wiper blade??
Is it the same?
Fantastic! Thanks much for posting. I'm tired of paying the dealer for new assemblies every time the rubber gets damaged! And they can't even mount them right, LOL. It is important to measure ur rubber blade section in mm to match w
what's available in eBay (vs. Amazon charges mo shipping unless u buy
$25 or more in one unit or combo). It is best to buy the blade where
the flexing section is thicker than 1/64" (.015"). I rather have it 1/16"
(.063"). No Wunder the rubber strip breaks off there on purpose!
They want u to buy one after every shnow/rain season?

i took to this thread... None here in utube et al shows this.
The strip must go in the top most slit in the blade. The strips add stiffness to
the wiggly rubber strip.** Make sure u remove any kinks and bends in the strip.
Then, insert these strips into the rubber 1st.. Then, grab the unit's end w ur
thumb n index finger and start inserting into the span's 1st pair of claws.
Note that the claws must go into the 2nd slit below the 1st one (where the

ur metal strips may protrude out of the spanner, say 1/2" out. Just put the

wiper arm per this video.

Thanks. You made it look so easy
Very helpful. Thank you.
Same as my Volvo S40. I had given up trying to figure it out.
Thank you so much. It saves me a lot of money
Got wipers today for an, Silverado and an Outback, both 2021. The final cost was $147.00 for 4 f-ing windshield wipers.....
Dude I was gonna buy the whole blade. Thank you.
Pretty awesome!
I tried this with my Hyundai I30 genuine rear blade (I bought a new one, but thought I would reco the old one for future). Sadly it won't work well as the cheeky buggers flared the wiper rubber in the middle. This acts as a support, using generic blades because this support is gone, the arm flops around a bit. Maybe making a support myself will fix this.

With any dish detergent or soap water blade goes easily into original Bosch wipers.
Hello. As another comment asked as well. you need to list the brand and model of refill that fits. Different wiper arms, and different refills, have the grooves designed differently or with different widths. So not all refills will fill on all arms.
You just save me $56 brilliant mate
You just saved me $40 thanks!!
Very helpful. Thank you for your time.

Excellent good vid. Forward to 1 min mark to see how to remove those caps.
This almost works for the Rain-x Expert Fit Beam blade! The only thing is that you have to use and end nipper to cut the bade from the spine.
Then the large rubber spine on the backside of the blade is gone, because that's part of the blade!
Then you have to pinch the metal blades REALLYING hard to clear the end caps.
Then you need to 3d print new clips because the rear spine is gone.
It's almost not worth it to do it to the Rain-x blade! But thanks for your tutorial, very helpful for Rain-x
Amazing... Thank you so much.. Made it easy for me
Great video and explanation. Thanks a lot!
thing is i took the metal piece off the end before watching this vid where you don't have to remove that part. i did't damage it, just have to bend those little lock pieces back down slightly. the other wiper i'll do this way!! THAHKS
Great video, you saved my life thanks buddy 😊👍😊👍😊👍😊👍😊👍😊👍
Just 10 years ago, I could go to an auto parts store and buy the stuff off a spool. Those days are gone. I can't even find the spools online. I'd love to have 25-100 feet of the stuff.
i have a vw 2015 gti. not sure what refill? thanks so much great video
Amazing video!! Logical approach❤❤
Nice one man, saved me alot of money :)
Wow so easy to change. Thanks
Very good and clear video. Thank you
Saved me from frustration😬 thanks
