    I am glad I saw this it was exactly the problem I was having! I cleaned everything off really well with alcohol then used a toothpick to put dabs of 100% silicone back where the metal should be, silicone bonds with metal and the rubber and still keeps that elasticity. Everything's been working perfectly and when I cracked it open to double check the metal caps are staying firmly in place.

    Thanks for the tips, especially buying a circuit-less fob & switching it out for the worn one. Miss being able to start a vehicle with a plain old metal key. 🔑

    you are a hero. there is nothing worse than this type of problem. the example to us all is knowing that sometimes you can just open something up and look. the caveat would be to know when not to take something apart past the point of never getting it back together again. thank you sir.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS! I have the same exact van and same exact problem with my key fob. And sure enough, the little discs were all messed up. Dealership wanted $450 for a new one! Thanks for helping me save ALOT of $$$

  • @railgoat

    This worked perfectly and saved us a bunch of money. The new fobs come with unprogrammed ckt boards, but I just re-used our existing ckt boards. I just wiped them down with a paper tower and used the replacement housings. The new fobs come with blank mechanical keys that can be used to clone the old keys also.

    • @RepairNut
      @RepairNut  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes and this can be done on a lot of other vehicle FOBs also. I'm about to do the same thing with an older Honda Civic FOB (buy the blank FOB case and install the guts from the original one).

    what glue do u use to glue the disks back in place please?

    • @RepairNut
      @RepairNut  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn't glue the discs back. I bought the replacement empty key Fob in the link in the description. It has a new rubber pad with all the discs on it. You can then put your circuit board from your old remote in the new plastic case. However others said they used some silicone to try to glue it, or anything that is flexible.

    Thank you! Car had been randomly beeping for a few days, liftgate locked and would not open, doors locking upon exiting vehicle and i had tried replacing battery in key fob, nothing, still random beeping and fob only working sometimes. I had an extra key fob (not working at all), but, the little metal thingies all in place. Was scheduled to go to mechanic tomorrow, but, YAY now i don't have to!!! gonna order one or two of these just in case.

    yea none of my little disks stay in place iv resorted to super gluing the tabs onto the rubber and for the most part it works but the 2 sliding door buttons wont work still but hey now my chrysler unlocks rather then triggering the alarm

    I tried to replace old rubber button with a new one and it didn’t work so I had to switch back to the old one.
    Can you please tell me why it didn’t work?
    Yes , my key fob is like the same as in the video

    • @RepairNut
      @RepairNut  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest replacing the whole rubber part with a replacement rubber part (not just the button). Like I did in the video. If it didn't work for you, I don't know why that would be, maybe your fob has more damage to the circuit board part??
