- Hey, check this out! I restored a cool 1959 Chevy Impala toy car. My brother Lee got it for me. I started by taking it apart and removing the old wheels from the base. After sandblasting off the old paint, I was surprised to see how good the casting was with barely any prep needed. I gave it a sweet custom paint job and put on new wheels to make it look even better. I also repainted the interior black and fixed up the glass. Hope you like the video and the finished result! A beautiful paint job, Luke. You have a steady hand with that scalpel, peeling off the masking tape. You could be a surgeon doing circumcisions. I hear the tips are great!

With regards to the model itself, it's a Corgi 223 State Patrol police car hence the aerial and it would of had 'state patrol' decals on the front doors.

Harley Earl's finest hour: Fin Wars was won with the 1959 Chevrolet Impala, not the bulbous Cadillacs! The four door sedan body was one of NINE on offer: unbelievable! That version is much simpler and I think better, than the later split body with the chrome insert, from Corgi. Good tips on the filler and finishing, thanks.
Painstaking preparation, Luke: I have no idea where you find the patience! But boy, does it pay dividends... I'm too lairy to get one set of masks on for a simple two tone (might be my medium of paint..) never mind all that performance! Terrific result! George Barris will be doing 9000rpm in his grave!

Wow what a transformation. It was actually no.223, Chevrolet Impala state patrol car. This didn't have a beacon. Corgi also made another version, no.481 which was a police patrol car, this did have a beacon on top. They also did a fire chief, taxi and ordinary car versions too
