Has anyone already commented that Charles Murray's mannerisms are the same as Hannibal Lecter's? 😆 I love it!

Be mindful using the word "Like" that is a good advice! The peaceful living is important to be aware of the reality even if it appears to be unfair or unjust.

Tattoos have become a status symbol. 20 years ago, a watch did the trick. It’s also a great way for young men to feel like bad asses without having to do anything that is actually bad ass. Being a man involves more than having a beard and tattoos.

You my not like him but there are a lot of people like him who will have some power over you. Leaning how they think can help you circumvent their influence. "Know thine enemy" and all that.

Gamesman01 he doesn’t want power. You’re so ideologically driven it’s insane your blinded to the harmlessness of science. It’s the radical left that make up and deny science that are the danger. Equality of outcome killed hundreds of millions in the last century. Equality of opportunity is the only fair goal.

@@r4ndomuser861 Crawl back under your rock. No ones gives two farts about your far right agenda. You undereducated inbreeding racists are the chains holding back progress. The main theme of consevative thinking is to stop change of any sort. Being a progressive means moving forward in both science and how we treat others. But go ahead and listen to Faux News propaganda with a side order of Limbaugh cheese and gay frog Alex (buy my merch) Jones.

I'm 18 and I think what he's talking about here is correct and I don't find it offensive or ignorant... There are certain things in people's appearance which are considered signs of sophistication or the opposite. I'm totally okay with that.

Yes, we should all bend to your antiquated preconceptions and stereotypes to appease you instead of recognizing that YOU'RE the one the can't recognize that norms change and that a person having a benign tattoo does not reflect on their intelligence, worth, or character. Guess what, Mr. Curmudgeon, whether you know it or not we're judging you too. Curmudgeon? I think "grumpy old man" is more apt.

Or go with it and make changes when you're in charge.

Isn't "grumpy person" exactly the definition of a curmudgeon?

+Theodore Roosevelt -- It ain't gonna change. Most people get more conservative as they get older. I had a douchebag spikey haircut in my twenties (was all the craze in the 2000s), acting like an ass, fornicated around. Now that I'm in my thirties and married, I'm gradually hating those very things.
By the way, tattoos and piercings do scream lower class.
And of course it reflects on one's character and intelligence to get such tats or piercings. When you dress like a douche, you're a douche; when you look like an irresponsible moron, you're an irresponsible moron.

I don't understand the point of having a staffer who is clearly ignorant of Charles Murray's racist teachings tossing out softball questions to this pseudo-intellectual turd with the obvious objective of pitching this embarrassing piece of shit of a book. I am a book editor and I can safely say that Murray's grammar advice falls short of the grasp of the average English grad assistant (a class of dedicated individuals for whom Murray has nothing but contempt). I was embarrassed for him when I read it. But, hey, thousands of tea party hillbillies will read this and feel like intellectuals for having done so. So it's all about making a buck. And Real Time can claim credit for a fraction of those sales.

Jack Palkovic He's never been peer-reviewed in an accredited journal, but in fairness to you I'm sure that's only because the liberal pinheads who run them blindly refuse to acknowledge 19th century eugenics.
Dude, I made that comment a year ago. You seriously need to move out of your mother's basement.

Jack Palkovic My apologies for the incorrect assumption of your lack of a life. You are obviously taking all of this more seriously than I. Congratulations on going to such a great school, though you must be perpetually dismayed at all the tolerance. goodwill, and multiculturalism you must glumly wade through on a daily basis. As a student at a top university you should understand that a PhD thesis is reviewed by one's thesis committee but is not peer reviewed because peer review requires that the jury not know the author. Simply put Murray made two deadly errors in The Bell Curve, in which he purported to prove scientifically that white people were wealthier than black people because whites were more intelligent than black people. The first fatal flaw is that all respectable social scientists reject race as a biological construct. (i.e. How would such a study classify Barack Obama who had one white parent and one black parent and Michelle Obama who has two black parents? Any "scientific" study of race that treated them the same would be worthless; any study that treated them differently would be equally worthless.) Murray compounded this error with horribly flawed, selective research. Don't take my word for it, go to your wonderful Moffitt Library and find out for yourself. I've spent many happy hours there (I'm an author, publisher, and college instructor). In the meantime, ask yourself would Murray be a hero to the right wing if he had concluded that black people weren't less intelligent than whites?

    - A. This book isn't written for young people. It's written for other grumpy old men.
    - B. The attitudes are actually "lower class" (what he calls it), blue collar thinking adopted by boomers that made it to middle management in large corporations (the way you could if you graduated high-school in the 'burbs in the 1960's).
    - C. It's a good guide to success if your ambition is to work as as a server in a middle-of-the-road chain restaurant (Applebee's, Olive Garden, rtc.), at the food court in a suburban mall, or catering the Republican National Convention. If these people want to see tattoos and piercings, they go to strip clubs or boxing matches.
