I think it's a good point to remember when tre-flipping: Once you have your back foot pressure, make sure you still pop your board directly down like and ollie, then add the scooping motion. If you scoop more than pop the board will go a little wild and get away from you. If you're struggling to get consistent, try just popping straight down, and jumping straight up. It's surprising that you sometimes forget to jump when you're concentrating on the flipping so much.
As someone who has been skating since 16 now 34. You pretty much hit it on the nail. I can do 360 flips fine but your explanation of to much emphasize on the flip and not the jump is spot on. That was my problem back in the day.
These “what not to do” videos are just as helpful if not more helpful than the “how to” videos. Turns out I do almost everything wrong from this list... guess that’s why my tres aren’t consistent yet. Time to put some work in!
George Mirchev hell yeaaaa I feel it back in 7-9th grade I had the best treflips stop skating for a couple years because of my kids had to get a job etc now it’s like I’m relearning them it sucks 😔
Have been trying to learn this trick for weeks. Watched this and went back out to practice, adjusted my form accordingly, and landed one within 3 tries. You, my friend, have just earned yourself a new sub.
Thank you. I've been ages watching videos about 3flip and it's the first time someone explain the trick so clear in a video about how not to do the trick.
I wish these kind of videos were available when I was a kid. I'm 38 now and struggle with tre flips. I'm going to apply these tips and see where it gets me. Thanks for the video!
I'm with you on that one man, back skateboarding at 38 after 18 years. TH-cam is amazing for helping people learn to skate. It's taken for granted now that all this knowledge is available so easy
i started skating again and i was having a hard time with the 360 flip then i remembered your video. and i realize that i was having the number 1 and number 5 mistake. after that i did a few decent 360flips. thanx for your videos. greeting from jalisco mexico
really good tutorial! I like how he knows what beginners go through and helped me realize what Im doing wrong instead of saying what every tutorial says.
#1 thing not to do while learning tre flips... DON'T practice your sword swallowing at the same time! the multitasking efficiency benefits are just not worth it!
Leaning forward to much, yeah that is my probem in a nutshell. I have a perfect rotation of the board and a perfect flip, but I always get the board to far behind me, just so I barely misses it with my front foot, sometimes I land with both feet on the board, but way to far up the nose to be able to roll away. The problem is that there is a clear difference between knowing the problem and actually doing something about it. :-P When I try to lean back more, the rest of my technique totally falls apart. I have struggled with this problem almost a year know. But I am not giving up damn it! xD Good video!
your technique doesnt fail, because you cant do the flip or the scoop. Your technique fails, because if you lean back, you have to commit again to the trick, that you havent done yet. You know how the board behaves when you lean forward, and youre not scared of whats about to happen, because you know. My advise Id give to you is, lean so much back, that you cant reach the board with your backfoot after the rotation. Practice stopping the rotation with your front foot, and just slam it down, with your backfoot not even trying to land on the board. From there you should try lean forward juuuuuuust a little bit, and the next try more, and the next try more until your at the right angle, where you could actually land on the board and roll away, but then you gonna notice, that your feet will stop again committing to the trick and thats where you just have to suck it up and commit. The first time you gonna land on the board, you might slip and land and your ass, happened to me. The try after that I landed it :) and now I can do them pretty consistently. I promise, its all in your head.
I think you are spot on in your analysis. I have no problem catching it with my front foot when deliberately stepping off the board with my back foot, because that makes me lean back more automatically. I need to re-learn the teqhnique (scoop and flip) with another weight distribution. I am definitely going to try your suggestion with leaning so far back that I cannot reach the board with the back foot. And yeah, I agree that it's probably equally much a mental challenge as well as a technical one. Thanks for the great support man! I will try the suggestions the next time I go skating! :-)
@DB Cooper's MoneyBags I am closer, but still sadly far away. I think my issues are threefold. 1. I need to lean back more but that messes up my balance. I need to work on that more. 2. My scoop is week. No matter how much I commit, I seem to have a really lame scoop. 3. Commitment. It's lacking. xD That being said, it feels like I am getting closer but suuuuuper slowly! xD
The back foot not being flat is a great tip. I've watched a few videos from other people none of which had mentioned that. I will give it a try thanks.
your tutorials are some of the most helpful on TH-cam thank you! my problems with 360 flips is putting my back foot back on the board the rotation is nice and catch it with front foot just fine.
you make good videos man. glad i found you. after a 7 year break in skating, i decided to get a new board at 36 years old. i was "tre flipping" in no time because of this video. although, i hate calling them that. we always just said 360 flip.
I’ve been practicing this trick for 5 years and still don’t got it. I’ve landed it q number of times, but some times it takes me 10-300 tries to get it. I’m very bad at them but even tho it’s been frustrating, I’ve been having so much fun working at it and I know one day I’ll have it down. So keep trying if you’re having trouble with them as well.
hold up, u really just say 10-300? lol the range😂 but skateboarding really is like that, i hope by this point you’ve gotten the trick down bro❤️ keep at it, i’m currently tryna learn to heelflip and i know how to do it but i’m just so inconsistent
Been trying to figure out Tre flips for years...started practicing again after seeing this video. Took me about 6 one hour sessions of trying nonstop Tre flips (probably well over a thousand in total) and I finally landed one and rolled away today, after about 40 where I landed either primo or landed and flew off the board or lost balance. Landing a Tre flip was on my bucket list and had been haunting me for years. This video was the final key I needed to unlock it - thanks for making it!
Wow. I have been trying to learn tres for months with little success. After watching this video I was able to land a few almost immediately! Definitely subscribing. Your tips have been the most helpful by far!
I watched tons of videos on this trick Because I am currently learning it right now in this video has helped more than any video I’ve watched because you show a variety of problems that happened but another video they only show one problem that people have my problem was my feet were too close together and now that I know that my feet are not supposed to be too close together I have not heard that from anyone but you and that’s why I always land on my nose Thank you so much
Not only is this a great trick tip video, but you're the first person I've watched with enough self awareness to actually ask for thumbs down. Thumbs up and sub from me and keep rocking man.
Been trying this trick for years, finally starting to get it more solid lately. One tip if you're under rotating the flip and catching the board upside-down is to lift your feet more to allow the board to rotate, almost like sucking the knees up to the chest. Easier said than done but it's fd me up for a long time.
I'd also add, trying to make the trick rotate perfectly, and land on the board after it hits the ground. Paying closer attention to actually catching has helped me alot.
ok you have the best and cleanest tricks ever. your tre flips are frikin beautiful, your kickflips are soo amazing, and and just every trick you do is super good. keep up the good work👍🏻
This is probably the best tips I’ve ever heard for tre because I somewhat have them but I realize a lot of the time that I do everything you said not to do in the video
My major problem is: I can scoop pretty well, but I cannot pop while scooping. It's all about muscle memory. I've been away from skateboarding from 2015 to August (this year). Now I'm getting back the tre flip again though. Great video!!!
Was trying to figure out what was wrong with my 3 flips and this nailed it! Got back into after 10 years and literally the first tip nailed it. I could always get a perfect rotation and fluid and always ended up in front of my board.
Anytime man. There has been so many tricks that you've helped me with. I've been wanting to land Tre flips for years and I just can't get it yet. But I will eventually. Love what you do man !
yüo're not high enough in the air with your body centre. Learn high oliies and how to lift your body cntre higher into the air: by jumping with both legs instead of just sucking the knees up or jumping only with one leg.

Just a helpful tip. Go learn impossibles before 360 flips. The scoop is very similar with some slight tweaking. The only difference is you scoop a little bit more to the side, but essentially it's done in the same manner. Oh, and of course you add the kick flip into the mix.
Yo! I don’t remember the last time that it took me just one video to subscribe to a channel.. keep uploading bro! You have a huge future doing this 💙🙏🏼
Thanks for the channel, I'm taking your tips into consideration every day. One suggestion: can you put the titles of the tips in the description? It would help to be able to reference the vid while practicing without having to scroll through the vid to remember all of them. Thanks!
Thank you sooooo much this helped a lot. I had landed my first tre a week ago but kept landing on my nose after that and couldn’t keep it under me. But I landed a clean one after watching this. Thanks
You have the best tre flip of TH-cam 🤘 I am working on it. My board dont do the 360 rotation, but 270 or so. I really give all i've got on the scoop, but it doesnt want. :/
1. Those are some of the most beautiful 360 flips I've ever seen! Thanks for the tips 2. Toward the end of the video I thought, that looks a lot like Lady Bird... My suspicions were confirmed once I saw the empty pool, fun box and fence! Fellow San Antonian
I think you must adding some detail step, i mean you tell about what happening when we do treflip, ex : ollie = square off, jump (lift up front foot first), pop, slide, lift up backfoot, land it
Everything is true, I learned tre flip by six hours and tried to learn my friend how to, I tried to explain what’s wrong does he do, and this video really helped him
I can do most of these tricks, but damn you really break it down. Shit really helps me critique myself. On another note, I wanna see some new footy! Keep killing it!
Great video, thanks so much. I did 360 flips for many years but my main issue is that I didn’t get to make them consistent like other tricks. Sometimes they come easy sometimes it’s like I have no idea how to do them, it’s so frustrating. A tutorial to learn to delay the back foot and catch it clean with the front foot would be great,:)
Thanks for putting in this hard work man. Can't wait to work on a lot of these. I have so many tricks that are almost there. Have you done nollie flips yet? Maybe i just didn't see it.
Love your videos and didactics. Now someone tell these new crazy skaters the next trend will be 360 shuvs downstairs, they look awesome and more difficult (DO THEM IN LINES PEOPLE). I don't think i will never get sick of watching Joslin or B Westgate treflippin anything, though
Actually that was kind of a funny passionate rant, what i really like to see is people improving theirselfs and having fun on the board, the trends they get in the way sometimes. But hey, humans right
I know. I'm one of those crazy people talking to themselves on the internet at this point, but hey, at least I'm not too angry. By the way: it was supposed to be "I don't think I'll ever get sick"
Dude, Im gettin so close to tre's and when i saw problem number 2, i realized my back always was right next to my front while landing on the nose. Imma try fixing this tommorow! thanks!
Having the back foot flat on the tail is what helped me getting a scoop with maximum power but much less effort. Stretching out your foot is part of the scooping motion. If it's already stretched, you would need much more effort of the rest of your leg to get the board around. At least that's the case for me. Changing the back foot from pointy to flat made the trick much easier in terms of the effort I had to put into the scoop, because there is much more room for the ankle to do the desired movement it takes to accomplish the scoop. But like I said, that's just what helped me. Maybe it's bullshit for everyone else..
Thanks a lot for your video! I have one question. What is in your opinion the most important practice step. I’m just practicing the tre and I focus on the front foot catch by stepping off with my back foot. I’m a bit worried I get used to it to step off that I’m not able to put it all together. Should I fully commit or do you think the front foot catch is the key? I hope you got what I want to ask! Greetings from Germany ✌️
Great tips and footage. I’ve recorded myself to see what I am doing wrong and it looks like my problem with this trick is that my back foot does not stay above the board so I never land it with both feet. I jump really high to fix it but still it does not work. So I think my problem is board rotation being too slow. Any tips for my case?
number 4 and 5 is always been my problem lol especially broken right ankle (I’m regular, not goofy) so I can’t really scoop but flick but I’ll try to see if it doesn’t hurt my ankle.
2 questions... 1.) How much weight (percentage wise) should I put on each foot? For example are we talking 70% back foot 30% front or what? 2.) I always hear it's about the backfoot scoop, but how important in the front foot, like am I flicking at all or just basically getting it out of the way? Preciate the time 100
Saw the "X" on the thumbnail. So I thought, "Maybe, it's better to learn how to tre flip on variety of foundations. Like, marble floor can help a beginner learn them quicker." But didn't see you talk about that. Its something I just thought about. It's how I learned. Different kinds of foundations can do the trick. .
Your like my fav TH-cam to watch when it comes to learning tricks can you please make a video on speed like do I need this much speed for stairs this much speed for gaps how much is too fast or too slow when doing tricks trans or park I hope that made sense
I think it's a good point to remember when tre-flipping: Once you have your back foot pressure, make sure you still pop your board directly down like and ollie, then add the scooping motion.
Best tre tutorial by far
#1 can implement any trick, I have a bad tendency to do that a lot. Right on ✊
I’ve been trying tre flips for 3 years easy and after this video I landed my first tre
And some guy mentioned that pushing your scoop foot a little helps too!
Dude, Im gettin so close to tre's and when i saw problem number 2, i realized my back always was right next to my front while landing on the nose. Imma try fixing this tommorow! thanks!
You ve changed my life, after 25 years skateboarding...
Very nice tre flip 👍

Having the back foot flat on the tail is what helped me getting a scoop with maximum power but much less effort.
Stretching out your foot is part of the scooping motion. If it's already stretched, you would need much more effort of the rest of your leg to get the board around.
At least that's the case for me.
Changing the back foot from pointy to flat made the trick much easier in terms of the effort I had to put into the scoop, because there is much more room for the ankle to do the desired movement it takes to accomplish the scoop. But like I said, that's just what helped me. Maybe it's bullshit for everyone else..
Im assuming wheel hardness may effect this trick...? Tips on wheel choice
Great vid bro I'm struggling with this alot . Focusing front foot heavy
This is the best tutorial ever made bout tre flips
number 4 and 5 is always been my problem lol especially broken right ankle (I’m regular, not goofy) so I can’t really scoop but flick but I’ll try to see if it doesn’t hurt my ankle.
2 questions...
1.) How much weight (percentage wise) should I put on each foot? For example are we talking 70% back foot 30% front or what?
2.) I always hear it's about the backfoot scoop, but how important in the front foot, like am I flicking at all or just basically getting it out of the way?
Preciate the time 100
bro has the cleanest tres 💪🏿
You know he’s good when he can do tricks wrong intentionally
Solid video.
Mid 80's skater here. Question- Why do most riders use white wheels these days?
Colours make the wheels act differently to white ones like coloured vinyl records sound worse than the typical black.
Saw the "X" on the thumbnail. So I thought, "Maybe, it's better to learn how to tre flip on variety of foundations. Like, marble floor can help a beginner learn them quicker." But didn't see you talk about that. Its something I just thought about. It's how I learned. Different kinds of foundations can do the trick. .
Good point - t's a lot better to learn on a very smooth ground like tile or marble instead of very rough concrete
Good shit. Well explained and great delivery. Thanks.
Im not very good at this trick. I'm working on it
Your like my fav TH-cam to watch when it comes to learning tricks can you please make a video on speed like do I need this much speed for stairs this much speed for gaps how much is too fast or too slow when doing tricks trans or park I hope that made sense
Hyped you posted a vid keep t up man !
