I just landed my first ollie moving and I am so pumped. Tips that helped me: don't be afraid to start on concrete it will only help your form; when popping, don't bend down too much because the board hitting the ground is what makes it go high, not the actual jump; you want to bend down and start your jump a little before you actually pop your board; and last, when sliding your foot, slide all the way through, your tail isn't getting off the ground because of your front foot not pushing the board foward. I will reply to replys if you have any questions for me btw
Pro-tip: **You gotta JUMP** That’s the thing that nobody seems to talk about for a basic Ollie, and why so many beginners can’t seem to get it when they follow these tutorials! Everyone says to push the tail down to pop, but how do you get a higher Ollie? Jump higher and tuck your knees/feet up like you’re jumping onto a box!
Jamie for sure! this is what I tell anyone who asks how to ollie because it’s so important if your body isn’t going in the air the board obviously won’t. A big thing for me was to practice “hippie jumps” or really just jumping and also body varials to get comfortable with my feet leaving the board and landing.

The JUMP helped me the most! The skate board can’t just pick your dead weight up in the air, YOU have to jump like you normally would, and then guide the board to follow you
I don't know if you mention it in this video or perhaps another, but I just realized how important it is to make sure you are dragging the front foot all the way to the nose 6:48 not just because it makes for a better ollie but it also teaches you to slide your foot the correct way for the kickflip and heelflip. Great tutorial! I love your videos. I'm 30 (turning 31 this November!) and I'm getting back into skateboarding for the first time since I was 14. Thank you for your videos!
I learned how to ollie about 10 years ago and it is still one of my greatest accomplishments (I’m just here for a refresher and hopefully to learn switch ollies) But I remember how frustrating this trick was. I had cried because this trick made me angry. It felt physically impossible, and sometimes I felt like it was only harder because I was a girl (yes, people really used to say that). I stopped skating for about 7-8 years and started back up again this past summer. I stood on my board and popped an ollie right away. It wasn’t that good...but it was an ollie. I also broke my ankle towards the beginning of summer and was out for 4 months. Even after my ankle was so stiff during healing, and it couldn’t flex to do a “proper” ollie, I STILL was able to ollie. It’s one trick I will NEVER be able to forget. This video would have definitely made it easier if I saw it 10 years ago...I can’t imagine what it was like before TH-cam was even a thing. If you’re reading this and you’re here because you are frustrated with your ollies...don’t give up. It will be 100% worth it. This is probably the best video to watch after practicing for a while and still not being able to land it. The small details you see in slo mo are amazing. Landed my first ollie an hour after watching this video and practicing it.
I am genuinely impressed with how you were able to do this whole recording without laughing. After the 50th time you said "Yeah, that ankle, see, it's in the ankle, this ankle..." I had to stop and ask myself if this was a joke video.
This got me my ollie (albeit with skater-trainers) in half an hour. I've been struggling to land an ollie for months. My problems were with dragging, jumping, and popping. The comment of @QNUA helped so much: For dragging: Really turn your ankle and kick out a bit. For jumping and popping: Pop after you jump. Also pay special attention to your back foot with your ankle, and not putting too much weight on it, otherwise that end of the board won't lift. Thank you Braille! I'm excited to take off the skater-trainers soon!😁😁
When I was first trying my ollie (still learning) and getting my front foot to slide, I wasn't able to do it. So when I noticed that my shoe started to have holes and scratches. I was soo happy because I know I'm getting there. Hahahaha

This was really well done, definitely makes things more clear. Also, love the og intro
How about no flip tricks game of skate? Just grabs, spins, grinds, handplants, etc.
Yes!
Andy approves
I found this so useful I landed an 5 inch ollie while I was moving! Crazy, now I'm practicing doing an ollie over a broom! I started 3 weeks ago! I love skateboarding!
THANK YOU! This is literally the first tutorial that worked for me! I managed to do a low ollie on the carpet. Now I'm gonna practice outside!
This is crazy. I watched this video for seven minutes, grabbed my board, and popped an ollie. What just happened.

@@lindsay61 that's the way one of my old street's names was spelled. No doubt I got denied for a few jobs immediately due to that spelling
This is probably the best video to watch after practicing for a while and still not being able to land it. The small details you see in slo mo are amazing. Landed my first ollie an hour after watching this video and practicing it.
i’m trying to learn how to ollie but i can’t get my board off the ground lol
its been 7 months can u do it now and if so tips?
I am genuinely impressed with how you were able to do this whole recording without laughing. After the 50th time you said "Yeah, that ankle, see, it's in the ankle, this ankle..." I had to stop and ask myself if this was a joke video.
it actually helped me
This got me my ollie (albeit with skater-trainers) in half an hour. I've been struggling to land an ollie for months. My problems were with dragging, jumping, and popping. The comment of @QNUA helped so much:
For dragging: Really turn your ankle and kick out a bit.
Hahahaha
I just landed an Ollie today!!! Love you Braille
Thank you for teaching me how to do an ollie. After months and months of practice I finally landed an ollie recently thanks, to your ollie tutorials.
Hi again from Sydney Australia,
Awesome slow motion and I'm sure we all will learn more through your guidance but can we get some falling in slow motion so we also learn to fall the right way.
Thanks again
Yes!
This actually helped me a lot
I can Ollie pretty decently but I still watched this and it made me feel more comfortable
NTermination same here
That back ankle slowmo view is game changing 🔥
I can’t Ollie while riding and I can’t Ollie off of stuff my balance is just off but I can Ollie without moving
This actually helped I, I still can’t fully do it but I’m getting close😂😩
I’ve been watching your videos for weeks before finally getting my board yesterday. I landed my first Ollie within 10 tries thanks to you guys and your videos!
When he was explaining the foot drag and saying there will be holes in your shoe I all ready have the sole of my shoe slowly going away.
