That is actually a glitch on ebay right now. When you send an offer sometimes something goes screwy and the offer is WAY lower than expected. You can actually cancel (although probably too late now) using buyer requested to cancel without penalty from ebay. The Auction Professor has a recent video on that. Happened to him also.
I had no idea but it's sent now so I don't think I can change it but at least I will know if it happens again! I thought maybe I just didn't tap the keyboard hard enough!
Ebay's response of how to cancel when this happens is to select "Problem with address". eBay is incredibly glitchy and it's costing folks, like you, money. It's unacceptable.
Definitely message the buyer and make sure they know that you are aware of your error and have decided to stand by it in the interest of customer service. That is the best way to get value out of your decision.
Refreshing to hear someone putting people before money… I have done the same mistake a few times & have honoured the sale as self discipline to not make the mistake again :) Not sure if it completely worked 🤔
I accidentally sent an offer of $7.77 on a MaxMara blazer when I meant to send a $67.77 offer. I missed the 6. Gah. I was SHOCKED when I got a messaged from a watcher asking if I meant to send such a low offer. I was so grateful they brought it to my attention, especially since it is a consignment item! I thanked them and told them what offer I meant to send. Luckily, all was well.
The way I went “MILL” when you said “good luck girl” 😆😆 Iv been having an unmotivated day and I swear your videos make me want to get going. Thanks for the inspiration! Watching while setting up my new office
Yes! I have already spoken to the printer about doing bookmarks. I've just been waiting until I get a nice logo made but I can't decide what I want as a logo lol
Another fun and informative video, Mel! It looks like your issue was addressed by other sellers. Have you ever thought about making your "business card" a bookmark instead? Where you're mainly a book seller - why not? :D
Integrity once lost is hard to build back --- you did the right thing! Sometimes it hurts, but learn from our mistakes and you are the better girl! Love your videos!
And all of my item specifics for gone from my book listings every single item specific was blank! What a nightmare this is. I literally started listing on Facebook marketplace today because I’m so frustrated with eBay I just didn’t even want to deal with eBay today at this point.
I've done that too. Fingrers messing with Keyboard. Ah well it happens Mel. I don't sweat it. And no I would not have canceled. Just user error, we're only human.
Mel! I have a tip for you on how to get the stickers off! Warm the sticker with your hand until the warmth is returning to your hand...should peel off with ease!
I can sympathize with you Mel. Two months ago I had an item that I intended to list for 33.95. Due to an issue with the phone I left off a 3 and ended up listing it for $3.95. It was purchased quickly. Like you I honored it. LOL. I did get a really positive feedback on it.
I know that feeling!!!! I did a similar thing. I lost money on the deal, but it was my mistake, not the buyer's. So I figure, they are quite happy with the deal they got.... and my loss is nothing compared to the ding I'd get on my account for cancelling, as you mentioned! I was sick over it... but then it was a lesson learned!!!
I did the very same thing. Had a new item with tags, etc! It was a garment and the customer offered $40 and I was hoping for at least $51. Well grabbed my phone and was just waking up on a Saturday early morning…so instead of countering with $51…I sold it for $1. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ I mailed and said enjoy. 😂lesson learned.
Ouch! Happy to say, as a buyer, I would have questioned that offer. As a seller, I’ve been in a similar situation and followed through with the sale, actually three sales of the same item in two days. That hurt. Lol
You did the right thing! You have to think about the long game! I will take a loss on a mistake because the negative comments or order cancels aren't worth it. Love your integrity!!
Well that’s cool. I bought a couple of book bundles in the last week and just saw you pack one of them haha. I didn’t even know it was you that I bought them off LOL. Makes me even happier now knowing what a lovely seller I’ve supported. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and always feel motivated by them :)
If I was the buyer, I would definitely have sent a message to the seller but that's because I am also a seller and would feel guilty taking advantage of a clear mistake. As the seller I will be honest, I would have taken the ding and canceled the order. I am confident that I have 100% feedback, take great care on my shipping, and fulfilling my orders so that 1 ding wouldn't hurt as bad as losing over $100 profit. Glad to see you're feeling better Mel.
eBay knows it is a glitch on the offers. They are working on it trying to fix it. It happened to the Auction Professor with 2 items in a row. He thought the first it could have been an error but when the next offer got it accepted he knew something was up. Others have been reporting it.
DOH! we've all done it Mel, Glad to see you are like me and honour the mistake, I have done a similar mistake I went to send a 5% offer to a buyer and sent them a 55% offer instead and they snapped it up straight away, and like you I felt sad but sent it to customer and I felt like Forest Gump - "stupid is as stupid does" Karma will reward for you for your generosity, hope you have good luck, regards Cliff
Hey Mel, a lot of folks have been moving from cards to small stickers. Apparently they're cheaper and serve the same purpose. I don't include anything either though...
You made the right decision. I did the same thing on a smaller scale, own it and move on, absolutely would not cancel for my mistake. And J.D. Robb is an amazing writer, whether she is writing as Robb, or Nora Roberts, I'll read anything of hers!
I would wear it, but would certainly need to add a subtle congratulations to the buyer. Like one of those giant smile stickers Lol. Hopefully the buyer recalls when they can pass along their bonus.
I would have eaten the loss and I have eaten my mistake for the same reason you said. Eliminate Ebay dings.. Truthfully, I do not know if I would have contacted the seller to see if they made a mistake..
Ouch, that hurts Mel ! I can feel your pain, I bet that buyer is doing a happy dance and some back flips right now!! SO Glad you are feeling better, love to see your videos!!
Ouch! My father's done that a few times but whilst bidding on things he's mistakenly put a bid for 100 when he meant only 10. The other bidders weren't happy nor was the seller :/
Oh you are too nice, lol. I would have messaged the buyer and asked them to cancel the offer so that you can send another offer, and would have offered them half price, at like $60 or so. Even that would have been 50% off for the buyer! None-the-less, accidents happen, and I'm glad that sales are coming through hard and fast, Mel!! 😁
Oh my goodness! You did the right thing, as much as it hurts your heart. I would have done the same. On the flip side, yes I would have let the Seller know. Thanks so much for sharing and for the reminder to check that offer.
He is much harder to find here than Nora Roberts (who actually writes JD Robb). I wonder what he sells for in America if he is easy for you to find. My be worth looking him up.
i have the song my ding-a-ling by chuck berry in my head now...i think you did the right thing, they could have left a neg and as you say a ding on you account for canceling..think of what you paid for the books, probably a few pounds, oops dollars..best just to move on..Glad your feeling better.
I have offers turned on for all my books. I accept most reasonable offers as I'll generally take guaranteed money today over the chance of a little more money tomorrow.
No!!!!! Sorry about that mistake! That's so painful!!!! I actually just picked up a bunch of JD Robb books since they sell well--all hardcovers for me. Still haven't sold them after two weeks--will be dipping my price down soon to move them. :)
I would NOT cancel. Good for you. Take the hit 😐 8:59 and move on. I would let the buyer know and invite them to save me as a preferred seller. 😀 Did simulator with a nice purse. You won’t likely do it again. 💕
You are doing the right thing! Honesty and integrity are what makes an individual trustworthy and you will get what you give back one hundred fold (lol get the joke). So this one got by but you can sleep at night. HOWEVER THERE IS A GLITCH ON E-BAY THAT WHEN OFFERS ARE BEING SENT OUT NUMBERS ARE DROPPING OFF OF THE AMOUNTS!!!! So if it happens two or more times this week then it is E-Bay who is screwing up and I would definitely be Cancelling the order by Buyers Wrong Address and relisting the item. ALSO E-BAY KNOW ABOUT THE GLITCH AND ARE TRYING TO FIX IT. BUT WE SELLERS ARE OUT THE MONEY!!!!
Oh dear Mel. What a terrible mistake. I would have honoured it as well. I must admit that if I had been the buyer I would have got back to you and queried your offer. I suppose that is because I was brought up to be honest. Nice to see that you are getting good sales. Xxx
So glad you are looking like you have more energy again x I have made that mistake, I just quickly end the listing if I realise straight away. Not great I know. When the buyer has accepted it, I've honoured it. As a buyer, I would message the seller and check that it wasn't a mistake, coz I know how painful it is to loose that much. I try to concentrate a lot more when I send offers LOL
I did do.just that. Someone sent me an offer way below what he was selling for. I messaged and said he must of made a mistake. He was grateful. Equally as you said you have to send it as it was your mistake. As a buyer I couldn't do that to a seller.
I had glitch happen on the app where $20 offers were going out as $2 so i just advised the 2 people that accepted that a glitch had occerred and that i would never send out an offer for $2 with free post. Both were fine and even 1 said they thought it was too good to be true but lived in hope. I would have cancelled the order.
Ive made mistakes like that too u are not alone I just send it out anyways get rid of it dont upset anyone online it kills you when u get bad feedback when u work so hard to do a right thing by the buyer u made the right decision as always cheers Dot
I accidentally sent an offer for £1 on an item . They paid immediately and being an honourable person I sent the item to them at a big loss . Lesson learned though I’m a lot more careful now.
I'm listening to some books in her series now the JD Robb books yeah they sell really well. No but it happens. I just did the same thing instead of putting 40 and I put $4 for a collection of glasses and that's not the same as 100 plus but I feel your pain. The wonderful thing now is it all averages out and they'll be even better opportunities in the future. The ding on the account is crucial yet the most crucial thing is integrity and you've got loads of it! If it's not a mistake like a glitch in the system I'd go ahead and send the item.Pam
Your the reason why I'm adding books to my ebay inventory now 😊 good video welcome back your looking healthy again take care love your voice it's so cute 😍😂
Ouch Mel.... To be honest I know it must hurt.... But I think you made the right decision. When I send multiple orders I think about the profit in everything combined. Give yourself a kick and move on. Loved the other sales thanks for sharing your positive thoughts despite your human error 👍😁
Use a thrift store hair dryer to loosen the glue to take off those stickers on the inside page. A heat gun may burn up the page( don’t ask me how I know) 😁 Have a great day!!!
Hello Mel. I would have done the same thing. It was my mistake. I did something similar. I had a 3 book lot, in which I paid $3 per book and I ended up selling it for $10 by mistake. But I honored the order because that's just who I am. I'm having too much fun doing this to stress over one mistake. And as far as thank you cards, I get my daughter to handmake them for me. She likes drawing. But things will probably change when my sales increase. Great video. Glad you're feeling better. 😃
ACKKKKK….It hurts Mel but I would have done exactly the same as a Seller….And as a Buyer, I WOULD have contacted you bc that would smell like a mistake to me….And as for those dings they last TWELVE MONTHS….Last year in Feb I couldn’t find an item & panicked after a couple of hours & cancelled as ‘out of stock’….I kept watching that thing every day & it only dropped off THIS Feb….Oh & the item….Sitting on the damn shelf in plain sight….!!!!!🤦🤦🤦
Mistakes are made and if you’d have followed up very quickly after the sale explaining I’m sure the buyer would have understood (after all they haven’t been inconvenienced really at this point have they). I’ve bought items online before knowing the price is a clear error and 9 times out of 10 I get a cancellation email.
Assuming the mistake was actually the glitch Auction Professor was talking about. It might be worth getting in touch with eBay to see if you can recoup the difference. Or at least some of it. Since there would have been no guarantee the buyer would have bought what was actually offered.
Pineapple on my pizza, please! I love watching your videos. Besides learning from you, we can depend on you to make us laugh, at least, several times. It's obvious that you love what you do.
This just happens to me. I had a jacket listed for $69. Sent an offer for $63. On the buys end it said 23. I message the buyer and he said it was ok to cancel because he read about this glitch on Redit and that he wound buy it anyway at $63. I had him then send me an offer of $60 for the inconvenience and received positive feed back.
I just picked up a few big lots of books and trying to get them listed. I have some bundles to do as well, all are hardback books so wondering the best way to keep them cheap for the buyer still. I have done that exact same thing but with a pair of shoes, instead of 49.99, it went through as 4.99. I sent them a message that I had made a mistake with the offer, buyer never replied and paid so I honored it because I made the mistake.
Hello Mel. Goodness girl, you have got them shelves PACKED full, lol. Great job! I def have made some of my mistakes when selling, but I sucked it up and realized it and let it go. Win for the customer, loss for me, but I didn't want a bad review or lose a customer and I didn't want to see that book stay home when I am selling to get them gone
If it was a large error, I might message the buyer and inform them of the mistake and ask if they would be okay with me cancelling the order. If they didn't want to cancel, I'd continue with the sale at a loss. The exception would be if it would be a massive loss. I like your attitude of taking ownership of the mistake and what that says about your personal integrity.
The offer thing is a glitch, happen to me to 69.99 sent offer for 64.99 ended up being 6.00 luckily the buyer understood (they messaged me before paying)
Hey Mel - EBay Confession - I mis clicked flat rate for international shipping… for $0.00. Got a quick sale lol. I chose to cancel due to the shipping cost. And now we are fighting for top rated. Mistakes help us learn ;).
had a similar thing happen last week, I sold a video game for $2 inc postage. Was an offer send. I owned it up and sent it. Now im thinking its an ebay glitch
It is a Ebay Glitch... The Offers have been dropping digits of Seller Offers.... But if you are good with eating it... Cool.... But a Call to Ebay may help...
Hi 👋🏻 from Pennsylvania, USA, thanks for the info! I’m glad you feeling better. Still enjoying day in the life:) I’m watching while writing down new inventory from our local thrift. Picked up a few Bibles. 👍🏻 I would have messaged the buyer to explain my mistake and ask it they would be willing to at least pay half of the original amount. And if I was the buyer, I would have definitely contacted to ask if that was a mistake. Especially if I knew the value. And I like 🍍 on pizza and grilled in many dishes. 😋
If I had been the buyer I would have asked if it was a mistake, however, I also realize that my buyers may not do that so as a seller I would do exactly the same as you and accepted the small loss of cost of Item and postage.
Hi. Enjoyed your video. I am new to ebay and reselling, can sellers simply cancel an order? Wow, didn't realise. Like u mentioned, ppl will give you a poor rating which affects sales.
Ok sure thing, will avoid that one. Another question for you, sorry... When packing orders do you simply rap books in plastic, then place books in a padded postage bag, is this enough protection for vintage books also?? :-)
My rough calculations on a 18$ sale - book $1, postage $11, eBay fees $2.5 = $3.50 profit. I’m hoping a minimum of $5 profit per book parcel. I’ve started selling again as a side hustle with babysteps after 4 years away from hobby selling. I’ve sold 10 items in 6 weeks at roughly $165 profit total. I started off good with 2 rare cherry picked finds that gave me 2 great sales from week 1 - A Jenny Kee book and a Rennie Ellis book. However I’m finding people are not giving feedback easily as they used to. 20 years ago everyone gave feedback as eBay was a community - back in the money in the envelope days - 😆 (I’d get coins and notes from all countries back then.) Have you got tips to get people to give feedback nowadays?
JD Robb is Nora Roberts.
Yes, but JD Robb sells for much more money than Nora Roberts and is harder to find sourcing
Agreed. This wasn't her mistake, and is a currently known glitch. Others have called eBay and were told to cancel.
I had no idea but it's sent now so I don't think I can change it but at least I will know if it happens again! I thought maybe I just didn't tap the keyboard hard enough!
I wish I knew!
Ebay's response of how to cancel when this happens is to select "Problem with address". eBay is incredibly glitchy and it's costing folks, like you, money. It's unacceptable.
Yes!
Definitely message the buyer and make sure they know that you are aware of your error and have decided to stand by it in the interest of customer service. That is the best way to get value out of your decision.
I think JD Robb is Nora Roberts, one of my authors.
Yes it is, but the JD Robb books sell for much more money than Nora
Refreshing to hear someone putting people before money… I have done the same mistake a few times & have honoured the sale as self discipline to not make the mistake again :) Not sure if it completely worked 🤔
I wonder if there is an option to retract an offer you have sent ?
Absolutely. Your good name is worth more than a few bucks.
Maybe your thank you cards could be in the shape of a bookmark. Customers would be likely to use it and have your information handy for reorders.

Howdy Mel. I did exactly the same thing once. Except I sold a $150. Item for $1.20. Like you, my problem. now I am much more careful.
OMG cry
Yep! So true about taking offers to just make money today. I've been taking so many offers lately since I need to move inventory so I can move! :)
Op Shops always find the most inconvenient place to put the price sticker! 🙈 so annoying!
Love your videos Mel.
Tell me about it! The inside page is my least fave place they put them!
Mel! I have a tip for you on how to get the stickers off! Warm the sticker with your hand until the warmth is returning to your hand...should peel off with ease!
Ooooh. Ok I’ll try that thank you!
@@backfromburnout If it's not working, you need to warm it up more. :)

Absolutely correct. Follow through on the mistake, and consider the money loss as tuition for lessons learned. I’ve done it, as well.
If I was the buyer, I would definitely have sent a message to the seller but that's because I am also a seller and would feel guilty taking advantage of a clear mistake. Glad you like them! I enjoy this style as I feel like I'm chatting to all my friends while I pack!
had 2 glitches same way this month alone canceled both
Oh no. I hope your sales didn't slow too much from the dings
Always look forward to your videos!💞
Thank you so much!
No I would’ve sent it, like you did…but OUCH! But to make you feel better it is only a $8 loss, trouble is you know the real value! Great Video x
May only be a US thing but you can actually select to have the SKU printed on the label to make easier to match them up with the items.
Yes we can't do that here sadly
Onya Mel ! I would of told you.😊
Love your video's... mostly because I am a book-lover and you are fun to watch also. 😊
Thank you so much I appreciate the feedback
Yes, I had no idea this was a glitch until reading all the comments! I just thought I didn't tap the keyboard hard enough or something!
Very good of you Mel , honestly not sure I would do the same.
Pineapple on my pizza, please! I love watching your videos. Besides learning from you, we can depend on you to make us laugh, at least, several times. It's obvious that you love what you do.
I'm so glad! Thank you for the feedback and for watching! x
Hindsight - don't send offers on hot items you know will sell.
Patience is a virtue
If it was a large error, I might message the buyer and inform them of the mistake and ask if they would be okay with me cancelling the order. If they didn't want to cancel, I'd continue with the sale at a loss. The exception would be if it would be a massive loss. I like your attitude of taking ownership of the mistake and what that says about your personal integrity.
I would have told you😊as the buyer.
Love your channel💛
The offer thing is a glitch, happen to me to 69.99 sent offer for 64.99 ended up being 6.00 luckily the buyer understood (they messaged me before paying)
I love Christina Feehan. I have over 54 books of her books.
She sells so well for me! She must write a lot of books!
Hey Mel - EBay Confession - I mis clicked flat rate for international shipping… for $0.00.
Got a quick sale lol. I chose to cancel due to the shipping cost. And now we are fighting for top rated.
Mistakes help us learn ;).
Oh no! eBay can really punish you if you make one little mistake and it can really hurt your store!
Well done Mel 👍😊
had a similar thing happen last week, I sold a video game for $2 inc postage. Was an offer send. I owned it up and sent it. Now im thinking its an ebay glitch
Maybe it was but I have no clue. I might just not have tapped the keyboard hard enough.
I will certainly be double checking the offers from now on
My FAV pizza is ham n pineapple on crispy thin crust 😋
Yummm
As a seller I'd have honoured the sale. As a buyer I'd have accepted that offer & paid in a flash, and I hate pineapple lol!!
It is a Ebay Glitch... The Offers have been dropping digits of Seller Offers.... But if you are good with eating it... Cool.... But a Call to Ebay may help...
I had no idea and already sent it so I suspect I missed out now but I will know now and look out for any future ones
I wondered if they were waiting for me to cancel the order knowing it was in error. They better give me good feedback LOL
Always love the content mel keep it up!
Thank you so much for the feedback!
Yes, I would have cancelled the sale. I'm sure you will get another sale to make up the lost renevue.
It really hurts your eBay store when you cancel orders though
Hi. Enjoyed your video. I am new to ebay and reselling, can sellers simply cancel an order? Wow, didn't realise.
Like u mentioned, ppl will give you a poor rating which affects sales.
Sellers can cancel an order but eBay doesn’t like you doing it. So it’s best to avoid it!
