Thanks for the video Ms. Mel I always look forward to them. And I also believe EBay blew it with Chris, but he will be successful at anything he puts his mind on. And he handled everything in such a classy zen way. I would have be doing my ugly cry for weeks. 😭
I know the reseller Chris but what is the other Reseller Channel you are talking about? Tech?? You are doing so well 87 sales over the weekend!! FANTASTIC!!!!
Technsports works with Chris and is a joint partner in the Daily Refinement patreon group. On Chris’s channel you will hear some podcasts of him taking to Tech. Tech has the number 1 store on eBay selling used clothes. He lists 250 items a day and has about 45k items listed in store. He’s done eBay for years and years and is a wealth of knowledge.
I just incorporate it into the book pricing. It's the same to charge $14.95 for a book or $6.00 + $8.95 shipping. Book buyers are used to getting free postage as all the big book chains sell that way. I do sometimes sell my larger bundles that are more unique with postage added though.
I really wish eBay would have just blocked Chris from selling in the shoe category. Especially since the shoes were approved by ebay's authentication process, during which time they could have demanded invoices. Whatever. It's ebay's loss. I wonder if it has more to do with Chris coming so close to cracking ebay's code on how to sell more?
@@virtudexterous257 sounds like you don't follow Chris and Tech. Chris started a store with zero money, sold a few odds and ends from his house and grew it to generate $1,000 per week income in (I think) 90 days? Chris was very focused on keeping certain store sales metrics in a certain balance to achieve what he calls "reseller Nirvana" - selling 100 percent same as you list. So, if you list 50 new items per day, you will sell 50 items per day. (Not necessarily the same 50 you just listed). I follow about a dozen of the top eBay channels, and the rest just say "list more and you will sell more". Very generic. No one focuses on the seller metrics balance like Chris did.
Question: how do you get all those items scanned in? I have all my items scanned abs get a receipt to show that the item did indeed go out to the post office. I’ve had problems in the past with items not being scanned in when I just drop them off.
Nice to see that your sales are rolling in and you are also getting lots of free books from "Your Guy". Glad also that you will continue with Chris. He and Tech have so much knowledge to give resellers no matter where they sell. Another great video Mel.
Thanks Joan! Sales have been going well! My 90 day total is moving slowly up in Q2 which is good. Slow and steady wins the race! Chris and Tech are both a wealth of knowledge. Im very grateful for all they’ve done for me. X
Hi Mel! I just love your upbeat personality and I was waiting for this video from you knowing that he has been mentoring you. I am a follower of DR and Tech your selling me on joining their group! I’ve loved watching your growth and you inspire me.
I really didn't want to talk about it as I feel like Chris has said everything in all his videos and it's his story to share but I also know I have talked a lot about Chris this year and people were messaging me asking if I'd still stay in the group now which is understandable for people following me to ask.
Funny you should say that! For the last 10-14 days, I have been moving boxes of books approx 12"×12" in size, some bigger. I thought of you often and wondered how you managed to carry those big bags of books everyday. It is a hard gig for sure.
I tend to flatten and sticky tape the edges of those large bubble mailers so there's no sharp edges. Hope there was a pot of gold at the end of your rainbow! Great style of video, I enjoy them all.
I love it for shopping but it's not big enough for my parcels. I do get the post office trolley though when I arrive so I can take them inside in bulk :)
Interesting, because I only discovered you and Chris, the Daily Refinement guy, in the last two weeks. I'd love to sell to Ebay in Canada- some do it- but talking to our local PostMaster, postal rates in Canada are incredibly expensive compared to the US and Oz. We don't have a special mailing rate for literary materials like in the US, here that is reserved for libraries. A book mailed from here could cost $15 to reach its recipient- and that's a thin book- anything over 2 cm ( about 3/4 of an inch) is sent at a higher package rate, not an envelope- (what book is less than 2cm? God forbid you send a coffee table book). It means sanding even the lightest material from here (eg: pair of mitts) if it can't be compressed to 2 cm flat you're paying a package rate and you make diddly squat. I have no idea how it's done from here. Agree with you on an ill-advised move by eBay banning Chris from the platform. I agree he was a strong advocate for eBay and had good advice. Hard working fellow. I wouldn't have had his good attitude after being banned- it says a lot good about him. Enjoy your videos.
Thank you and welcome to my channel! Chris is a very hard working reseller with so much knowledge to share and I value him very much. Our shipping is paid for by the size of the mailer but they all have the same weight allowance of 5kg. It does make it easy for shipping. I think I pay $7.45 for a small mailer to ship. Thank you for watching!
@@backfromburnout You are most welcome. I enjoy watching. Keep it coming! A book mailed within Canada (paperback, 200-300 grams) will cost $4.14 to mail within Canada, $11.14 to mail to the US, next door, and $22.28 to anywhere else in the world. I'll watch Chris's old videos, but not having started reselling, from what I see so far the only one making money would be Canada Post. Cheers. :)
That's my one big fear as I get started. All my eggs in one basked then having the selling platform run over my basket! Can you do a video on using multiple platforms? Specifically selling the same items, same SKU on, for example, Etsy and eBay at the same time? Is it possible? Is it not allowed? Is it a bad idea? The pros and cons of such? Other ideas for protecting your online store from selling platform actions?
Yes. I’m noticing as my systems keep improving I’m feeling less stressed each day in the business. Now the listing has become more a habit I also don’t feel as rushed. Q2 is definitely feeling easier than Q1 did for me.
I got suspended from eBay affiliate program, boom, end of story. Broke a rule I didn't know about. Was a tough lesson. Ended that business lickity split.
He’s amazing, so business savvy and I feel like eBays been unfair. All of us resellers are going to have difficulty getting line by line invoices. It’s just not the nature of our sourcing.
@@backfromburnout I wonder what would happen if thousands of reputable sellers on a myriad of platforms wrote to eBay to 1. Consider the nature of reseller sourcing and how this impacts us all, and 2. To reconsider their decision and whatever rule they based it on. I know he said he’s a little tired of talking eBay on his channel, but this is bigger than that. I mean, they killed the guys livelihood with the push of a button and that power should scare any eBay business. For many of us, it would be devastating.
Hi it’s not publicly linked as all the extra traffic messes with my eBay analytics and conversion rates but it’s easy to find my store as I share everything I buy and sell on this page.
Enjoyed your video Mel. Curious, with that book pack of 3 that wouldn't fit, weighed over 5kg, how did you pack them and did you lose money on postage?
Yeah every week! There is no cut off time, it just goes until there are no more questions from anyone - Tech stays as long as he needs to. I basically block the entire day out and just work solidly in the shed while listening and learning. I love being part of it because everyone is so respectful and when Tech talks everyone listens. Thanks for watching:)
you are such a hard worker and I admire your discipline. you are such an inspiration to me. i love watching your videos! i also listen to ken honda...arigato!
Thank you so much!! Ken has such a nice calm attitude which I love. I listened to his book on Audible about 6 months ago and then he did an interview with Lewis Howes a few weeks ago which reminded me of the book so I have been listening to other interviews I can find with him. Thank you so much for watching - Arigato!!
I was suspended from ebay about 10 years ago for life, forever and till the end of time. Four months ago they emailed that they had opened a new account for me and I could buy and sell. If they will do it for a small fry, they should do it for a big guy. Chris is their best unpaid ambassador. Maybe he will eventually be back.
When you bundle your books together in a lot, do you just randomly pick one of the book titles and UPC codes to enter into item specifics or do you leave them blank?
Yes, I randomly choose any of the book titles to put in the item specific requesting it. I don't use the UPC codes as I don't scan the barcodes. It's not as common in Australia to use barcodes on books as we don't use the same scanning systems that other countries have (mostly as we are not allowed to sell second hand books on Amazon in Australia). So all my listings are done from scratch without barcodes.
Great video Mel. Is your car going to be able to handle the growing weight demands??? Agree its disappointing to what happened to Chris but he chased the money & got bitten. The dilemma with Chris TH-cam channel now is that while it was focused on eBay it was relatable as eBay is global. I feel his next venture will be more US-centric based (eg. his current whatnot liquidation) and his overseas followers might not continue. Also agree with your comment about Technsports - he is very focused and I believe got Chris to where he is (in respect to the clothing side) before the suspension. Chris was very scattered before trying every selling channel / method
My car is not LOL. We have been looking into getting a new car for a while now. I just need to bite the bullet and choose one. I keep changing my mind on what I think I need or want. The issue is I still need a family car, but I also don’t want to get a car that’s too big for all the times I’m travelling around without big book loads. Petrol is so expensive now and something to consider. We have also just bought a trailer which will help me with hauls. I thought I wanted a Ute but now I’m not sure if I really want to be driving one around all the rest of the time. Maybe I just need a nice family sized SUV. I haven’t had time to test drive many but it’s definitely on the list and something we’re going to get this year. I’d love to see Chris make a shopify business. But whatever he does I think it will be exciting to watch and learn from.
I really feel for chris. He knows what he did wrong so has to wear it. He’s v switched on and driven so will adapt to whatever he puts his hand to……. I wish him well and will continue to watch snd thumbs up his channel as i do yours Mel.
He is very smart and will continue to be successful in his next endeavour after eBay. I’m excited to keep learning from him on the journey. Thank you for watching
He actually didn't do anything wrong. There is no requirement to have manufacturers invoices on their platform. That's just the excuse they are using. In reality, he sold over 1mil of shoes during their 0% transaction fee promo that they foolishly didn't put a cap on. Once he stopped selling those when the promo ended, they got angry and lashed out. Ebay can ban anyone at any time whether or not there was any "wrong doing."
At 58 I have a lot less energy then at your age. I only have energy for work I absolutely love in every way. And only a few hours a day at that. But everyone is different. My partner is 65 and he still can go 8 hours a day at work he likes.
Great video as always. Can I ask what is the name of the machine you use to wrap plastic around your book bundles?? Thanks Mel I’m a newbie to your channel and Ebay. 💕
Hi, welcome to my channel! I’m wrapping the books in mini shrink wrap which you buy at the hardware store or shops like Home Depot if your in America. It’s generally in the area that sells the moving/packing supplies. I’m Australian so get mine at Bunnings.
I like Chris he has great advice and has helped a ton of people. Now the problem I have with him and why I won't join his group is I always feel he's hiding something. Like he's gonna say what he wants you to hear but not the whole thing. Nothing wrong with that 99% of TH-cam is like that just not someone that I personally like. Like for example I can say 15 years ago I sold over 2 million dollars worth of stuff. That's great I'll just leave it there (kinda like Chris did) and not tell you the whole story. Which is I worked for a high end car dealership for 8 months and only made commission on that which was no where close to that. Now people will say he bought the shoes and resold them. I also could of bought the cars and resold them on eBay as well. Then shown off my 90 day total while selling stuff that was mostly around $20.
He does have great advice. I never get the impression he is hiding anything. He is like an open book with everyone in the group and answers any questions thrown at him and if he doesn't know the answer he sets about trying to find one. Chris sold the shoes on one of his secondary eBay accounts, the Daily Refinement clothing account was all bread and butter $20-$30 items that are the same as most of us all sell and his sales were hundreds of thousands on those basic items which is very inspiring.
Agreed I hate what happened to Chris. But he is such a wealth of information and so brave to be open and honest about the situation. Surround yourself with intelligent people in order to be a success. Stick with a group
He has so much knowledge to share and I'm certainly staying around to hear everything else he has to share going forward. I'm sure there will be many more learning journey's to come from this.
bottom line is any reseller on ebay will never own that business. Thats why its very important to invest in other business opportunities that can be owned or shared. An IRA account is also a very good investment. As far as Chris goes its well worth the money to be a member of his group. I only listen to the podcast which is 5 or 6 dollars a month. That is working very well for me. I have not scaled to the point of needing one on one advice but I would not hesitate to invest for more in depth counseling if needed from him.
Very true. I think the group is also great for those who lack self motivation as it helps to hold you accountable. Watching all the other resellers pushing to grow their own businesses is very inspiring and motivating for me and I love how it's so system based to get you to do all your work in a day as fast as possible. The first few months were hard for me to start building all the habits but now I'm feeling much calmer in my daily work.
I loved the multiple subjects you spoke about in this video Mel,it was very interesting. The speed at whyyou work is amazing . Don’t worry by the time you’re 55 you’ll be employing people to lift those post office bags for you.🤣😜
Ha ha. Maybe that will be how I’m doing it! Still books but I’ll have the young ones doing it all lol. I’m still feeling fatigued after covid so that doesn’t help with the big packing days!
Glad your not leaving... yet anyways ☺ Thanks for the postage tips, I have been wondering how Australian post charges with the labels when you use all different size boxes and bags. Don't know how you can just go to the book section without having a look around haha 😆 do you shop for yourself and family at the thrift?
Mel have you invested in doing a Dave Ramsey class so that in 10-15 years you might have more invested with less reliance on eBay. Just a thought. My husband and I are enrolled in a Dave Ramsey class called Financial Peace University and although the classes are hard and talk about difficult topics we have learned so much and are growing our knowledge on topics I wish we had known about earlier.
Listening and watching Chris at DR is like taking an MBA master class. He is well worth supporting and listening to.
I agree. He’s very knowledgeable, helps so many people and gives so much to the reselling community.
Youyoutoyuuuu
Agreed. They lost their ambassador, unpaid celebrity, educator and unpaid marketer. Companies pay 6-figures annually to bring people like that on.
Absolutely agree. The fact he can’t even appeal the decision to anyone blows my mind.
They don't care. Ebay wants to be a platform for large retailers. They have already been taking steps in that direction.

Great content... Chris is awesome i look forward to his next step in the reselling world..
Me too! I hope it’s shopify!
Hi Mel! Loving the mixture of vlogs. Its great!
Thank you for the feedback! I enjoyed making this one!
Hi, Mel...it's always an education watching you work ❗👍
I appreciate that! Thank you for watching me and for the feedback
Loved your vlog as always Mel, liked the various content. keep them coming x
Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate you watching!
Agreeed!!!! Hell yes I am staying too . We have an amazing group. We are all growing drama free. Well said ! Loved the video
Thank you. Best group!
He’s also on Instagram under the name technsports.
Hey Mel, Great energy, great accent! I'm not a reseller but love to browse thrift stores and flea markets for stuff I want or gifts for others.
That’s awesome! Thrift shops can be a lot of fun to browse through! And a little addictive ha ha
Enjoy all your videos Mel. Your energy and enthusiasm is amazing. With the price of postage why not consider having the buyer pay for their postage?
I just incorporate it into the book pricing. It's the same to charge $14.95 for a book or $6.00 + $8.95 shipping. Book buyers are used to getting free postage as all the big book chains sell that way. I do sometimes sell my larger bundles that are more unique with postage added though.
You have a awesome system going for yourself. Have a Great Weekend!!
Thanks, I've worked hard on my systems and always trying to fine tune them :)
Look your bags where do you get those. I know you are in Australia they are so beautiful. Like the size of the and rainbow colors. 😊
I do hope they will give him back his account and just ban him from the shoes. It’s a great loss to the reselling community.
I was going through same shit some days back but I'm glad this Raymond ethics guy helped me in getting mine reinstated
Great vid and an inspiration to other TH-camrs / Resellers such as myself! Thank You!
Thank so much I appreciate you watching
10:22 what?!?! We say that in America but it means something NOT reseller related...
Loved this video! I like seeing all sides to what you do
Thank you so much!
Love watching your videos. Does your postal service not pick up your packages?
Loved it! You're really on a great track Mel! Congrats on the big batch of orders! Cha ching!
Thank you so much!
Loved this video! I really enjoy watching you work ☺️
I'm so glad! Thank you for the feedback and for watching!
I can’t get enough of your videos so loved the longer video 🥰
Thank you for the feedback I really appreciate it!
Funny you should say that! For the last 10-14 days, I have been moving boxes of books approx 12"×12" in size, some bigger. I thought of you often and wondered how you managed to carry those big bags of books everyday. It is a hard gig for sure.
Somedays the bags are so heavy but I guess it's keeping me fit so that's a good thing! Thank you for watching!
I tend to flatten and sticky tape the edges of those large bubble mailers so there's no sharp edges. Hope there was a pot of gold at the end of your rainbow! Great style of video, I enjoy them all.
Yes I probably need to wrap that tape all around! Thanks Ian for watching!
Chris said he was selling 50k one-off sneakers. He wasn't quite the small time Ebayer he presented in his channel.
What happened to your little trolley you purchased? Would be ideal for postage trip. Just wheel it in
I love it for shopping but it's not big enough for my parcels.
Cheers. :)
Enjoyed the mix. Thanks
Love your videos Mel! Love from Canada
Thank you Laura for the feedback and I appreciate you watching!
Crazy about Chris, I heard that quite a while ago. Systems are the best to keep our business as well as any business running at it's premium.
Yes. I’m noticing as my systems keep improving I’m feeling less stressed each day in the business. Now the listing has become more a habit I also don’t feel as rushed. Q2 is definitely feeling easier than Q1 did for me.
87 orders! Insane! :O Congrats on the great weekend!
Thank you so much!
I got suspended from eBay affiliate program, boom, end of story. Broke a rule I didn't know about. Was a tough lesson. Ended that business lickity split.
57 years old and been doing this for 13 years now full-time, so quite possibly!
Woo hoo! I love that!
I like the shipping station camera view
Thank you, I was trying something different :)
Your video was spot on! Just what I needed!!
I'm so glad, thank you for watching x
Lol... I'm 57 years young and carrying books.
Woo hoo, I'm feeling better lol.
He’s amazing, so business savvy and I feel like eBays been unfair. All of us resellers are going to have difficulty getting line by line invoices. It’s just not the nature of our sourcing.
Yes agree. I can relate to Chris in so many ways and his constant efforts to better himself and his businesses are inspiring to me.
Hi. I don't see a link for your eBay store. I'd like to take a look.
Hi it’s not publicly linked as all the extra traffic messes with my eBay analytics and conversion rates but it’s easy to find my store as I share everything I buy and sell on this page.
I'm 55 and could easily handle those books, so I'm sure you will do just fine.😉 I really don't feel any older than I did at 45.
Woo hoo, that's good to know! Maybe by 55 I'll even have some workers lol I have also been extra tired the last couple of weeks after this darn Covid
T.he most Important you can remember is you need to have a receipt for all you buy.
Enjoyed your video Mel. Curious, with that book pack of 3 that wouldn't fit, weighed over 5kg, how did you pack them and did you lose money on postage?
I just did another label and sent them as two orders.
Great video Mel 👍crazy that you guys go for 4-6 hours that’s epic 🙌
I enjoy Chris ch alot. Unfortunately ebay lost a great seller. I also enjoy your ch, it's real fun and educational.
Yes they sure did
I was suspended from ebay about 10 years ago for life, forever and till the end of time.
Four months ago they emailed that they had opened a new account for me and I could buy and sell.
If they will do it for a small fry, they should do it for a big guy.
Chris is their best unpaid ambassador. Maybe he will eventually be back.
Great to see a car full of rainbows and orders... Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you for watching :)
I loved today’s video format.
Thank you for the feedback! I enjoyed making this one!
I loved it! 🤩🤩🤩 Great with a longer wlog 👍🏻
Glad you liked it!! Thank you for the feedback!
Yes, I liked the way you did your video. But I always like your videos. I need the energy boost....lol.
😊 thank you I appreciate you watching and taking the time to give me the feedback x
Have you considered using courier services like sendle instead of auspost? Seems like it would be cheaper
Love getting my book motivation from you, Mel 📚
Thank you so much for watching!
That is a lot of volume of sales! I don't really sell books but wonder what is the average margin on normal book?
Btw I hope Chris gets back on I started reselling because of him wealth of knowledge!
My ASP is close to $28. My average cost of goods is $1. I’m currently on $37k in 90 days of sales selling books on eBay.
I never sold nearly that many books in one trip and it still wore me out.
This was a big weekend of sales :)
Love this one, Mel!!!!Make more of this please!!!!
Thanks, I quite enjoyed doing one over a couple of days like this and wanted to see how you guys liked it. Thanks for feedback!
I'm doing it at 55, you'll be fine.
Woo hoo! Thank you for the reassurance lol. I have been a little extra tired lately after covid - I can't seem to shake the fatigue yet.
Really enjoyed this video format. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank s so much for letting me know!
Hi Mel, love your videos!
Do you include tracking in your postage? Any issues with orders not arriving?
Yes I do! All my books have tracking. I won't send anything without tracking - not even a DVD or CD.
bottom line is any reseller on ebay will never own that business.
DEF eBays loss Mel….I think he’s an AMAZING resource….!!!!!❤️❤️
He really is, I hope eBay are listening to the reseller community and can see what Chris brings to it
With all those books, are you FBA on Amazon?
No, in Australia we are not allowed to sell second hand books on eBay so I only sell on eBay :) I have about 3300 book listings on eBay
Glad your not leaving... yet anyways ☺
Thanks for the postage tips, I have been wondering how Australian post charges with the labels when you use all different size boxes and bags.
Don't know how you can just go to the book section without having a look around haha 😆 do you shop for yourself and family at the thrift?
Well said Mel! Good stuff
Thank you for watching!
I haven’t done his class but I follow him and we are currently snowballing!
