2021 Hyundai Elantra Review | A Better Buy Than Civic or Corolla?

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 14 ส.ค. 2024
  • The Hyundai Elantra is redesigned for 2021 with new everything. The looks are more polarizing, the ride is better, there are more features, and it's an all-around good value small car. Hyundai prioritized practicality and efficiency with this model but if you want speed, go for the new N-Line. If you want as much efficiency as possible, there's a hybrid option for you. Hyundai did a great job on this new 2021 Elantra and it offers a lot for the money, especially when compared to popular competitors like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda3 compact sedans. Enjoy this 2021 Hyundai Elantra review of the Limited trim, and leave your thoughts below.

Is the new Elantra a good option for this class? It's efficient, spacious (for the class), and has lots of features to offer. Let me know what you think!

I'm in Australia and waiting for my i30 premium (our name for this car). I'm really surprised how many features the american car misses vs ours. On the other hand we don't get blue link apparently.... one thing we both seem to miss is the heated front windscreen the Canadians can get, we don't get a lot of cold weather here but we do ice up here for a few weeks a year.

We have a 2020 Elantra SEL and although not the latest model it is a wonderful car …..smooth, quiet, loaded with safety features…..everything you touch has a quality feel to it.
We got a fantastic buy on it (NEW) for $16,444 plus $799 dealer fee plus sales tax (6%) plus registration and tag …..about $18,650 …OUT THE DOOR.
….. it looks nice, it drives nice, it’s got plenty of power (2.0 Atkinson cycle engine with IVT transmission) …very fuel efficient (30 city 40 highway) …..a joy to drive and we have a 2018 Camry LE to compare it to. (Nice car …noisy engine) but only during acceleration ….quiet at highway speeds…(Camry)

I am honestly tired of people hating on this car for being so angular. Like every single car out there right now looks exactly the same and this car tried to be different. I can actually differentiate this from a corolla or a Sentra. This was a bold move by Hyundai and I like it.

The Mazda3 is pretty damn good though and isn’t much more. I think this has better gas mileage but the 3 offers a better driving experience and a superior interior. In terms of styling, I’d say the 3 is better, too, but I like that Hyundai tried something so different.

I'm glad to see the Koreans aren't giving up on sedans (Looking at you Ford and GM). There are still a lot of shoppers who don't want or need a SUV. The 2.0L engine with iVT that was in your review sample is the same engine as found in the lower trims of the Kia Soul. I drove a rental Soul with that power train and found the iVT to be one of the best CVT transmissions I have ever driven.

Just bought a 2023 Elantra Hybrid, and I just love it. The electric motor gives me crisp launches off the line, the dual clutch 6 speed computer shifted manual tranny gives the efficiency of a manual tranny with the ease of an auto, and the fully independent rear suspension - found on the N series and the Hybrid - gives phenomenal handling. The fuel economy is spectacular; I regularly do better than the EPA specs, running in the low 50 mpg range with mostly city driving. The Bose sound system is better than my $2,000 home theatre system, and the sound deadening means the vehicle is quiet at highway speeds. The electronics are amazing... this may actually be the very best vehicle on the planet.

Everytime I get in it, it feels like im in a luxury sports car. Interior is very nice. The seats almost look like mock Recaros. Very elegant sporty design. The 2.0 NA gas may not be the fastest car on the road but it is a very peppy little engine nonetheless. Does highway speeds effortlessly. Would highly recommend this vehicle over a civic or corolla.

I have the SEL Plus and let me tell you for 22k it’s so worth it! I upgraded from a 2019 Hyundai Accent so this was a big upgrade. It’s so roomy. I pulled up to the drive up at target and the attendant had to ask me what year and trim my car was because it looked so “luxury”, lol ha. The smart features come in handy. And I love the complimentary 3 yr blue link subscription, I live the fact that I can control the car from my phone. The lane keep and steering assist paired with the smart cruise control is technically this car driving itself, I like to use it in long trips. Y’all don’t let anyone deter you from Hyundai’s- this car looks and feels better than a Toyota they look so outdated to me and Honda’s have been having the same “new body” for years.

From my decibel ratings on different road surfaces - it’s quieter than the Civic and a Corolla, not quite as quiet as the Mazda3 (2019 and newer). It’s pretty quiet for this class but not as quiet as some larger cars or SUVs

I have put over 10k on mine and love it, at one point I got 60.5 mpg briefly. I've noticed the longer the trip the better the gas mileage, it has a lot of tech, and good utility. Mines a SEL, and mine might be in the minority since it was made in S Korea, instead of Alabama. The trunk is nice and wide love it because it opens with hands full also. I love Corolla also one a 2017 saved my life and my wife's at the time, she had a grand maul seizure and passed out on texas interstate for 3 minutes, since I was the passenger I put hazard on and steered till I was able to wake her, I couldnt shut off dynamic cruise since there was no shoulder there and moderate traffic. It saved our lives breaking and gas was flawless with the dynamic cruise. I wish te Hyundai had that

Me: Well, warm the car up first, take it easy on acceleration, and change fluid often. If you start up, hit gear and haul ass on a cold powertrain of course the CVT will go out prematurely. Even regular autos crap out if you abuse it often without warming up, let alone a weaker CVT.

My 10-year-old, 2012 Elantra with 176,000 KM in it, is making noises. Based on my research, it is a piston slap. Unfortunately, Hyundai will not cover it here in Canada. I think it will last for another 50,000 km. However, I don't think I will get another Hyundai after this. Hands down, Elantra has better esthetics than the corolla and civic. Reliability-wise, I'd go for the civic or corolla for people who prefer to drive the same car for 15-20 years.

AMEN on the turn signal part! I agree red signals - especially those that blink the brake lights - must be banned, period, as they are outside North America (and death penalty for any automotive designer who puts them on and thinks they're "cool"). Sadly even Hyundai's own Sonata and nearly the entire Genesis lineup has gotten saddled with those hillbilly rear blinkers.

No matter what you tell yourself no matter what anyone else tell you. This car just won't last. I know 10 year 100.000 mile warranty. That's not going to help you when they pull the that's not covered routine. They will try and get out of fixing you car. It's what they do. So do yourself a favor get something else.
