    This was a great video! cut and dry. Thank you for taking the time to do this for everyone. You were informational, and to the point. I have seen so many you tube clips that are about everything else besides the subject. Thank you again.

    I just did it and it is really simple (around 20min). No special tools required by the way. Just a regular 10mm wrench. All that needs to be done is rotate the pipe ccw so it will clear from the transmission and to install it back in... make sure the black spacer ring is line up with a notch on the housing and rotate pipe cw to line up the holes. If you have really big hands removing the o2 sensor will give you so much more room for your hands and also for your wrench.

    I did this today!! I had the P0128 code and noticed my engine was running colder than usual. When i took my old thermostat out the rubber gasket stayed in the housing and I could not see it. I tried and tried to put my new thermostat back in. I then compared the new one to the old thermostat and noticed that the old thermostat was missing its rubber gasket ha ha. I then felt inside the housing and low and behold the old gasket was still in there!! Removed the old gasket and put it all back together. P0128 code went off when I drove it around for a little while. I changed the thermostat after the car had sat over night. I did not have trouble bleeding the coolant system.

    It's possible I did it!! if I can do it you can do it, anyone can. You cannot see the upper 10mm bolt at all so you do have to feel it off. I used a regular 10mm wrench. There is a nub on the black plastic sleeve and a notch in the housing. Once the nub and notch line up the it sits flush in the housing. The gasket from the old thermostat was stuck in the housing and I could not see it. When I removed the old rubber gasket from the housing everything went well. I had a tough time lining up the bolt holes when putting it back together. I held the pipe with my right hand crossed over my left and with my left hand spun the bolts to get them started.

    I just have one problem with this, you never see the thermostat and the housing come out or go in to know which way it goes! seems pretty clear but I have been doing this to a car that someone removed it all first.. so I have no clue which way the things go back in.. also that housing has 3 bolts there to the right, and that can be removed.. that tool you don't need a 10 mm combo wrench works just as good.

    Question,the needle on the tempature guage stays slightly over the middle 195 mark, but have noticed that the reservoir always needs water, I once put antifreeze n it spit it all out thru reservoir excess hose.... any advise?

      I have a 2004 chevy cavalier- My reservoir always was needing water. I thought it was the cap but later then the temp gauge was going up more than it should and I found out it had a crack head in the engine.

      sounds like excessive pressur ebuildup due to an internal combustion leak (eg headgasket leak) making its way into the cooling system

    Do you absolutely have to drain the radiator fluid? If so, how do you get fresh fluid in it if your car requires replacement fluid to be put in by a mechanic? HELP!

    • @productreviewspecialist
      @productreviewspecialist  หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes drain it so it does not come out after you remove the thermostat housing, creating a major spill. After replacing everything, refill the radiator to full line, run it and top off as needed after the engine is cooled down.

    I have a 2002 Cavalier. My car has been overheating lately. I pulled it over when the temp gauge was at 3/4 and when I popped the hood the fan was not running. It seems to overheat especially when stuck in traffic. There seems to be no leaks under the car as well. Do you think this is due to a faulty thermostat?

    • @EdSpfld73
      @EdSpfld73 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had my fan die , pull the relay for the fan and if the relay clicks when you plug it back in its the fan . Make sure the engine is warmed up.

      Bob Saget mine is doing the same. Ive replaced the rely and the fan works, but it is still over heating... going through water but not seeing any leaks anywhere! Any advice?

    Hey, I am trying to replace my thermostat in my 2005 2.2 cavalier. I got the thermostat out, but I can not seem to get it back into the housing. I am putting it back the same way I took it out but it wont go in far enough. Did you have this problem?

    • @productreviewspecialist
      @productreviewspecialist  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not have that problem. You need to feel where it sits in the housing with the tips of your fingers. Next video I will record the actual removal

    Unfortunately, I removed removed the pipe and am having a bitch putting it back in, but I'll manage. However, how far is retainer sleeve suppose to go in? Mine sticks out a little and I can't seem to get housing assembly on to it. Is the sleeve suppose to be flush on there? Please please help....

      +Joshua Leon I'll post this for anyone else who has trouble reinstalling the water pipe and thermostat in an Ecotec. Mine was on a N body (Grand AM - same as an Alero or Classic Malibu) with an automatic transmission and had a lot less between the engine and firewall than the J Bodies. I removed my water pipe and replaced both gaskets (the flange end is a slip on piece with the same water pipe gasket as the other end). The trick here is to full push the flange on the water pipe, get it back under the exhaust, then get the top hard to reach hole lower and rearward of the easy lower hole, insert the water pipe into the water pump housing then pull the water pipe up and into the water pump with a bit of a twist.
      The worst part of the install was the thermostat plastic retainer. It was stuck inside the housing and once I managed to pull the thermostat out (with its o ring still stuck inside the housing!) it never would go back in and stay in place but wanted to fall out. Had to practice for about an hour with a mirror to get the notch lined up in the housing and retainer sleeve without it walking around loose. My retainer sleeve was a bit proud of the surface but even and when tightened down it was fine (ie compressing the thermostat o ring a bit). Also note that there is a D shaped port inside of the thermostat housing that has to match up with the D shaped hole in the retainer sleeve.
      I wish I had a paint marker to mark the retainer sleeve so that I could see if it had rotated before bolting the water pipe flange on. Also wish that I had a tube of the Permatex green rubbing alcohol based gasket sealant to tack the water pipe flange o ring in place because it was very loose. If you can get an inspection video camera then do so. Also on the manual transmission cars it might be possible to access the thermostat flange and water pipe easier from under the car.

      Looking back on it....a paint marker would of been a brilliant idea for realignment
