Thanks man, great video! I swapped out the thermostat on an 05 sunfire, didn’t have exactly the best tools so it was a little tough, the o-ring was a pain too but I used a little grease to keep it in place and got it all together, works proper now

I have a 2002, but it's not an ecotec. Where you're showing there's a heat shield, and water pump/thermo, is where my air intake goes into the engine. I usually just follow the top radiator hose, and it's super easy to find the thermostat, but can't find it for the life of me.
Edit: found the thremo on non-exotec. It's at the end of the too radiator hose, follow the big pipe after the split. It's on the front passenger side of the engine.

Luckily I have already messed up my exhaust (pacesetter headers to magnaflow cat, to super 10 flowmaster) the gym I had weld it together didnt do such a good job, wonder why, he did use an oxygen torch and coat hanger to weld it. It was really easy to get the tube off, however I removed an o ring, figured it fell off the other thermostat so I threw it away, after changing the waterpump I have a huge water leak where I removed the o ring, just an fyi for anyone else having this issue

I replaced the thermostat and both o-rings. The o-ring at the water pump is easy to replace if you coat the new o-ring with silicone o-ring lube it pops into place easily !

Both o rings? The one on the pipe coming from the water pump, where is the other one located?

@@tysonyork4307 the other o ring is at the end of the thermostat housing where the 10 mm bolts are. You can see that if you go to rock auto and observe the transfer tube. This tube has to move inside of both housings to be able to fit. I ordered the o rings from Rock Auto. There are 3 o rings, two on the transfer tube and one for the thermostat housing.

The backwards mechanic doesn't know that those half inch bolts are really 13 mm

I suspect he should have gone into the part a out not pulling the coolant bypass pipe out of your water pump a little more anyway the idea is to not do that because it won't seal back up with out a new o-ring

Great video 👍 This will help anyone working on old caviler... Removing exhaust manifold is idiotic design.

I believe that’s an 03 or newer 2002 should still be in Sfi or an ohv

4:28 what sort of issues would removing it cause?

I dunno. I have to replace the thermostat soon, I'll let you know. I think you should pull the bridge pipe out to change the seals. It does look like a pain, but I don't wanna have to do it twice.
