Amazing channel. Could you possibly do a top five “tennis shoes” that you’d recommend for basketball?? I play outdoors and love playing in low tops and saw one of your videos about how basketball players should maybe give tennis shoes a try. Basketball shoes nowadays aren’ built for outdoors like they use to be. Can you recommend a few for me and other basketball players??? Thanks brotha
I remember back in the day when I played basketball I liked Nike shoes with the zoom cushioning in the front and the Air Max in the back. Now with Boost and bounce you explain them both perfectly.
Exactly the same observations from playing basketball. Bounce was amazing in terms of energy return. My feet felt like escaping from myself. But my knees always hurt after playing. With Boost soles it has never happened. I weigt ca. 120 kg.
Great analysis as always! However you missed a few important details on the boost. The way they're implemented(encasing/placement)and the amount of compression for those pellets. Because different boost sneakers actually have different feelings and performance. For ex, my harden 1's boost feel light, super low to the ground and responsive. But my ultra boosts feel mushy, somewhat unstable and high off the ground. I think you should also take different shoe models into consideration.
Totally agree as always. Boost are better for heavyweights with chronic tendonitis-heel pain-achilles issue, Bounce for lightweights-better performance.
For a few months now i have a problem with the tight soleus muscles on both legs and from time to time tendonitis in the shin area. What kind of shoe do you revomend to me? I play indoor sport handball (popular in europe) - moves are similar to basketball i would say.
I felt the difference when I tried to play with a LeBron shoe, and Adidas boost and an bounce, I was jumping trying to reach the ring(basket) and the bounce and LeBron were the better ones otherwise the boost made me feel like I was stuck to the ground but felt better when I stricken the ground, basically, zoom and bounce gives you more energy return but not so much comfort and absorption like the boost
@@FootDoctorZach That's awesome! I personally cannot wait. I've always been obsessed to know if these cushioning systems that these brands try to push ACTUALLY work, and how effective they are in real life performance.
This video helped me a lot decide which pairs to buy for myself and my mother. I love those clear explanations on materials used for each foam. Thanks Doc!
That is why I use Adidas Supernova for running...they have this combination...boost in the back and bounce in the front and they are cheaper than ultraboost and boost DNA🙂
Boost hurted my knees when using for running in the gym. But with Bounce I could run for the first time in 20 years without knee pain. I will repeat Bounce for the rest of my life. And if it has a shorter duration so let´s buy new snickers more frequently... At the end of the day we only have 2 knees until the end of our life
I'm not a runner, but I am a former tennis player (prior to two neuromas, two torn tendons in my ankles and two torn meniscus). I do a lot of walking with my dogs these days. I've owned a pair of the SolarGlide 5 for a couple years but don't really love them. They're a bit hard feeling to walk on, and have a really weird tongue that I don't love. I just received a pair of Ultrabounce today and am wearing them around the house for the first time. So far so good. I certainly don't intend to play tennis in them but hopefully they will be the walking shoe I've been trying to find. Only paid $26 for them on sale. I only paid $48 for the SolarGlides.
Bounce are really high quality shoes, the outsole is really resistant. However, once the bounce is flat we end up with shoes in perfect condition but really painfull. I don't know if you experienced the same, but it's a really special sensation. Thank you for your awesome work, as always.

Hello. Thank you for your very enlightening video. I am a 6ft 200lb ocasional jogger that runs every other day around 6mi during my lunch break. I had been using Adidas Supernova + Boost shoes with no problem whatsoever. Last week i decided to upgrade and bought a pair of Adidas Adizero Boston 10 shoes, with lots of technology, carbon plates, this and that foam in the midsole and no Boost. I loved how they felt during the run. But afterwards i might have awaken an old knee injury in the lateral (external) meniscus. It hurts and gets swollen, so i had to ICE until it passed. I guess returned energy (elasticity) came with a price. I will probably alternate shoes to see if i can adapt, or change shoes. Your video might have explained the problem. Thanks. Thumbs up.
Glad it was helpful- yeah I had a similar experience with a more stiff shank causing heel pain earlier in the year- your foot definitely has a preference and no two feet/ legs are the same so I always listen to my body vs making it listen to the shoe - if that makes sense
4:30 - 4:43 Was this misspoken? Bounce midsole for both A) someone looking for speedier shoes, and B) someone looking to prevent chronic repetitive injuries?
Excellent video. I’ve always been a Nike guy but I bought into the Boost hype when the Ultra Boost was popular. It was marketed as a running shoe but I always felt that Boost is way too unstable for high movement & high impact sports (running & tennis for me). Since then it has stayed in my rotation as a daily beater. I agree, for bigger people, Boost is great for that impact absorption but I don’t like the loss of court feel that comes with the plentiful cushioning. I always thought Zoom Air paralleled Bounce whereas Air Max/Max Air (the bubble bois) paralleled Boost. I remembered how “tanky” the cushioning was when I played with the older Courtballistec 3.3’s & 4.3’s and as my movement got better & faster, I preferred that lowered stance and feel of the Zoom Air Cushioning.
Yup, boost “wiggles” a lot when you really pound it but the construction of the SCB is just so good it’s still my go- to, just wish it came in a bounce option with the same heel height
I recently bought an Adidas Avryn for running ( 5 kilometers ). It is a combination of Bounce and Boost. I absolutely love it. I have never really had a shoe like this ( maybe the first time I used the og ultraboost ). The bounce effect is actually real, not just a marketing gimmick.
Ive found similar thing. I weared cheap adidas foams and moved to boost. Boost felt uncomfortable. Nike have comfy foam on pricier shoes compared to adidas. Running in those cheap adidas foams was easy.
I am a heavier player and have two basketball shoes by Adidas, the Dame 3 (which has Bounce), and the Dame 8 EXTPLY (Bounce Pro), and I will say this: Bounce is just fine for me, no knee issues or anything. Bounce Pro does offer some slightly softer cushioning, and I do enjoy it a lot. I wonder how Boost would feel for me.
Had my pureboost for 5 years. The boost has been flattened alot so performance is probably better. Got a new pair of ultraboosts and notice the bounce immediately. More comfort less bounce
I just tried on a pair of Ultraboost 22 and I went to the shop in my Asics Novablast to compare. For me, the Asics have way better return. The Ultraboost are more comfortable for just standing and walking though. I got them because I was looking for something to wear at work. I remember when I was looking for running shoes and I didn't see any serious channels recommending Ultraboost for that. They all suggested the Boston line instead.
Thanks for exactly this kind of content. These adidas shoes fall in the expensive side of tennis shoes and identifying the best attributes they offer is essential when buying a pair. Thanks a lot for all the analysis you make! 🙌 It's truly helpful Doc!
In your wrap up about the two shoes you mention if you are a basketball player and want more height on jump shot......more energy return if your a runner looking for a speedier shoe for race day shoe go Bounce. You then go on to talk about to prevent more chronic repetitive injuries you also say Bounce, was that an error and you meant to say Boost. So if you are a 6’1” 220 lb person the Boost is probably the best option?
Yep that was just a slip of the tongue sorry about that I actually had to go back and listen to it- I did mean boost for chronic repetitive injuries - for longer duration yea boost is better but if the shoe is newer it’s pretty equal - thanks for letting me know about that btw
At 4:43, did you mean to say "boost" for chronic injury folks? You used "whereas" as if you were comparing but you said go for "bounce" for more athletic and it seemed as if you were going to say boost for those with injuries but said "bounce" for that too.
So then the solecourt boost is the best of both worlds because there is bounce in the for foot in the midsole & boost in the heal area. Like the Adidas Trae young 1
Excellent analysis! I kindly ask you to conduct a similar evaluation regarding badminton shoes. It appears that there are no existing videos on this topic available on TH-cam.
If possible, could you please make a analysis of shoe soles v.s. weight of athletes? A 300 lbs male doing cross training, what kind of shoes best fit him? A 120 lbs middle school boy doing cross country running, what kind of shoes best fit him? I find shoe makers used the same mold to mfg their goods. Not many makers out there fit the users by their body weight. In automotive business, tires are fitted according to their payloads, horse powers and purposes. In people business, we only talk about purposes, and fashions.
Great video please , I have one questionBased on your experience Are training shoes and HIKING shoes suitable for going to office work and WALKING AROUND?
I bought adidas aerojolt m running shoes with bounce foam. Main usage wad running and gym lifting. They died out pretty quickly. I don't know if it's because the shoe were of lower end in the price range or because of using them in gym. But yeah... They lost there characteristic relatively quickly.
Thank you for your comparisons. I have been looking for a pair of tennis shoes since last week. It had been difficult for me to find the size 8 in men and the shoes you highly recommend.
First time ever watching a shoe related vid and this has been insightful. I'm on the larger side so I'm thinking of getting the boost primarily for jump rope. Then I may buy a second pair, bounce, for weight lifting
Great video. I was interested in this comparison for a while. 👍🏽 I am currently using the Adidas Stycon Clay (with the Bounce midsole) but the I think the energy absorption of the Adidas SoleCourt Boost (with the Boost midsole) is better for me because sometimes I feel to much shock from my heavy steps with the Stycon. Also the additional durability of the SoleCourt shoes is great.
I agree- also threw Stycons are so heavy its a lot of weight to come down on that midsole- its also almost zero drop so the SCB is going to give you a lot more forgiveness
Hi doc. I was born with spina bifida and mostly balance myself on my heels due to atrophy in some muscles on the legs. Do you recommend any shoe to help me do everyday chores with less discomfort?
I think. as long as it was done by a professional and it was lined up correctly to fit the last it would work fine probably- but the attachment would have to be done really well
Since I’m playing volleyball, I weigh around 160 lbs for reference, I play outside hitter so I jump and spike a lot. Would boost or bounce be better for that?
I'm a Boost fan for easy pace running, but, for me, Saucony PWRRUN PB and Plus are better than Boost for easy runs and better than Nike React for tempo. And lighter than either. Not a fan of Bounce or any EVA foam I've tried for running. And Lightstrike was the worst, overhyped, under performing midsole material from a couple of years ago. Might be okay for bursts of quick movements and lateral juking but I don't play those kinds of sports anymore. And the blend of Bounce, Boost and a terrible upper fit made the Supernova the worst Adidas shoe I've tried.
Hi Zach love your videos but what i'd say is you talk about width but never much about the actual fit in terms of being true to size- adidas website for instance recommends going up a half size on boost and bounce and i bought a pair of boost size 8 before i saw this from another site and not having seen you say they fitted a bit smaller due to the snug sleeve and needed an 8.5- i've sent the boost back and i'm looking at the bounce but again - unsure whether to get the true size 8 or 8.5 due to the lack of sleeve on the bounce. Help would be great. Videos are great
Which shoes specifically are you talking about - the SCB and SMB in my reviews I talk about how big they are and that if you’re narrow to medium to go down a 1/2 but if you’re talking about different shoes it may be a different story
Do the SM Bounce and the SC Boost fit the same? Would you size up or down in the BOUNCE as opposed to the BOOST? I know the upper is more flexible in the SMB.
@@FootDoctorZach Do you find the fit better on the SCB than the SMB due to the more substantial upper then? I have heard some say that the SMB allows for a bit more foot movement than the SCB based on it's construction. Is the SCB more stable for that reason?
@@FootDoctorZach If your arguement about midfoot and heel is true, why does nike implement air zoom in the forefoot of its vapor models (not the NXT)? and many performance basketball shoes (like the Kobes). Is Zoom this best cushioning technology for tennis (low profile/responsive)? Could it be paired with react? Also I think an interesting video would be what is the Frankenstein's Monster shoe you would make combining various technologies.
I’ve thought about making that video actually - I guess you could pair a zoom unit with react but react is so soft I’m not sure you’d get the intended benefits , you kind of need a harder foam surrounding the zoom unit to allow it to compress - I actually love zoom in the forefoot it gives a lot of cushion , I’m not sure how much bounce it actually gives in the forefoot because of the bending action at the ball of the foot it works better in the heel where there’s no creasing so at least how I see it, it’s more for comfort when they put zoom air in the forefoot but I’d love for a Nike engineer to explain their thinking
Hey foot doc, thanks to you I just got a pair of solecourt boosts ! Quick question, why are the “Parley” versions of the show 10$ more ?? That’s what I went with but I wanted to figure out why they were more expensive
Doctor, which shoe should i go for under the following assumptions: 1. I don't care about price 2. Don't care about durability 3. Don't care about performance I only care about protection against foot sole pain and shock and strain from impact.
Tough to say as it depends on your foot type so I couldn’t give you specific recommendations but the most shock absorbing shoes I know of right now are the GP turbo and solecourt boost

I think. as long as it was done by a professional and it was lined up correctly to fit the last it would work fine probably- but the attachment would have to be done really well
Doc can you include the pros and cons of hi tops and low tops shoes for basketball players please
Since I’m playing volleyball, I weigh around 160 lbs for reference, I play outside hitter so I jump and spike a lot. Would boost or bounce be better for that?
Really comes down to personal preference
I'm a cross runner and I used only boost shoes. Is it worth to try a bounce pair, since I need a new pair for running?
Softness exclude stability, which you may need for valuable in tennis agility. Wow, what a discovery…
Okay boost or bounce for an old heel fracture im 46 had back surgery 8 yrs ago. I am almost bone to bone l5-4 s1 also. I walk…
I don't feel any difference in 'performance' with either shoes 😢
Do a review on Lotto shoes!

May I know which kind (category)shall I choose for playing badminton? Boost ok?
Which one is the best for flatfoot
Who makes a better energy return foam
my favorite is lotto
Wow this is informative. Could you also do Adiprene/+ comparison with Bounce?
Man, where is that hockey court at? I need that in my life!
Do the SM Bounce and the SC Boost fit the same? Would you size up or down in the BOUNCE as opposed to the BOOST? I know the upper is more flexible in the SMB.
Same width/ length so I use the same sizes
@@FootDoctorZach Do you find the fit better on the SCB than the SMB due to the more substantial upper then? I have heard some say that the SMB allows for a bit more foot movement than the SCB based on it's construction. Is the SCB more stable for that reason?
Yes and yes- although the SMB feels amazing once broken in and the midsole wears in a tad - nice custom fit
Great video... very well explained. Thank you.
Why wouldn’t adidas go boost in the heel and bounce in the forefoot? Also how does lightning -strike perform
Compared to these?
They can it just doesn’t matter much because the weight and performance is mostly heel and midfoot- I’ll be comparing lightstrike in the next video
I have adidas supernova, and they are that exact combo, and cheaper than the boosts. 7 months abit late tho
Boost midsole for me. I don't need the 10/10th's performance & the boost is infinitely more comfortable for my heavy set body type.
Agreed
4:42 did you mean to say boost midsole?
Bounce for me, boost midsole makes my feet numb because it's too squishy.
That makes sense, but you’re the first person to actually report that to me, interesting
And this was the video I was looking for. Yes.. thank you.
Awesome! Glad you liked it
Hey foot doc, thanks to you I just got a pair of solecourt boosts ! Quick question, why are the “Parley” versions of the show 10$ more ?? That’s what I went with but I wanted to figure out why they were more expensive
Recycled ocean plastic- you’re paying for the extra work to manufacture them
@@FootDoctorZach ohhh lol thanks
👍👍
what foam is the best for everyday walking?
Great consumer advice here. Can you pls do the sfx3?
Thanks! I’ll be hopefully doing the entire babolat line this year
Can you do a review of nike court lite 2?
👍
how long will they last in simple urban use?
4:40 did you mean to say Boost as opposed to Bounce? Or did you mean bounce.
GET Adidas X9000L3 wich has both Boost and Bounce on one pair of shoe
Hi. Is there a Solecourt Bounce on the market for sale? thank you
Nope just solecourt boost and solematch bounce- they don’t interchange the two- although they should
@@FootDoctorZach thank you. Only have it for the famous pros. 😂
😅👍👍
Boost for some reason gives me lower heel pain upon prolonged walking - I have lower Achilles tendinopathy and I am flat footed.
Thats odd for sure
Please do a review of Mizuno's Enerzy and compare it to this Boost and Bounce foam. Thanks
👍
So if I just take walks regularly, I'm not super heavy, and I'm not really an athlete, which one would be better?
I really loved this video
Doctor, which shoe should i go for under the following assumptions:
1. I don't care about price
2. Don't care about durability
3. Don't care about performance
I only care about protection against foot sole pain and shock and strain from impact.
Tough to say as it depends on your foot type so I couldn’t give you specific recommendations but the most shock absorbing shoes I know of right now are the GP turbo and solecourt boost
@@FootDoctorZach You know what, from seeing all your videos that was my conclusion too. Thanks for verifying
Recommendation for a video: The 5 minute stretching routine before games to avoid injury.
Bounce, boost (adidas), air (nike) or power cushion (yonex) which is better?
I am confused which one i am going to buy Adidas supernova or ultra bounce
Which kind would be better if someone weighing between 110-115kgs wants to walk at 5kmph for 15km daily? Boost?
